Black voters in Georgia voice support for Trump ahead of election: ‘A man of his word’

Black voters in Georgia voice support for Trump ahead of election: 'A man of his word'

[ad_1]

Black voters, a key constituency in battleground states like Georgia, are speaking out in favor of former President Trump, according to a new report.  « Trump’s a man of his word, » voter Joseph Parker told Politico. « And everything is so high now — groceries high, clothes, everything, gas. And four years ago, it wasn’t that high. And so people see the difference in Kamala Harris and Trump, and they want some of what they had four years ago. And I do, too. » Parker, like some other voters considering Trump for president, has never voted for a Republican presidential candidate in his lifetime. MAHER SAYS HARRIS IS ‘VERY VULNERABLE’ TO AN OCTOBER SURPRISE AFTER PREDICTING 2024 WIN »I’m not necessarily the biggest fan of Trump, » Arthur Beauford told Politico, « but I’ll definitely take Trump over Harris. » « I wouldn’t say he’s perfect or anything, » voter Samuel Kem said about Trump as a candidate. « He will get the job done. He’s very talented in, like, diplomatic relations with other countries with mutual respect. » »I’m going to tell you the truth. I didn’t like [Trump]. But now, I like him, » said Fabrienne Durocher, a voter who supported President Biden in the 2020 election. « I don’t like when Democrats are talking about abortion. I don’t want that. So I said, for that, I’m going to change my mind. I’m going to vote for Trump. »Democratic strategist Howard Franklin said that Trump’s opponents need to acknowledge his appeal, especially since he is willing to « at least speak unlike a politician, unvarnished. » « I don’t think it would do Democrats any good to deny there’s some appeal there, » Franklin added. MSNBC SHOWS ENTIRE PANEL OF ARAB-AMERICAN VOTERS REFUSING TO BACK HARRIS »Let’s just boil it down to good old fashioned buyer’s remorse, » former Cobb County Republican Party chair Jason Shepherd said. « People have been hit in the wallet. All the sudden, all those mean tweets and crazy comments from Trump just don’t seem as important as a positive balance on your bank account. »One radio host analyzed the differences between voting groups choosing between Harris and Trump. « This race is between college educated and non-college educated, » conservative radio host Shelley Wynter said. « And in the Black community, this race is between working-class and what I call the bourgeois college-educated class, » Wynter said. « If you went to college, an HBCU, were part of the Divine Nine, you’re all in for Kamala Harris. » »When you’re talking about a state where 30 percent of the electorate is African American and another 4 percent are minorities other than Hispanic, it’s a big deal if you move that even a little bit, » former Faith & Freedom Coalition chair Ralph Reed told Politico. « The thing we don’t know: Is that actually going to be the outcome on Election Day? »The Harris and Trump campaigns did not immediately respond to a request for comment from Fox News Digital.

Pelosi weighs in on Biden ouster, insists she only had concerns about campaign not ‘fabulous’ president

Pelosi weighs in on Biden ouster, insists she only had concerns about campaign not ‘fabulous’ president

[ad_1]

Former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, D-Calif., weighed in on President Biden ending his re-election campaign this year, saying that her concerns about Biden running again were not about the president himself but about his campaign.Pelosi made her most recent comments about Biden stepping down from the campaign in a new interview with CNN host Christiane Amanpour that aired Saturday morning. Amanpour asked her about reports that she had a major role in convincing Biden to step down, asking her why it was the right move for the party. »Now, my concerns were around the campaign, not about the candidate, » she said, adding, « He‘s fabulous. »PELOSI DEMURS ON IF ‘EVERYTHING IS OK’ BETWEEN HER AND BIDEN: ‘YOU’D HAVE TO ASK HIM’Pelosi was one of several Democrats, including Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer, D-N.Y., who reportedly called on Biden to step down following a disastrous debate performance in June.Amanpour broached the topic by asking Pelosi if she has spoken to Biden since he was replaced by Vice President Harris at the top of the ticket. »I haven’t spoken to him since July, but of course, we‘ve been out of session for a while and I‘ve been on the campaign trail constantly, » she said, stating that she has « great respect for the president. » »I think his legacy is a very substantial one for our country. It is our legacy too. I did not want that to be lost, » Pelosi said, following up by saying she had problems with the campaign, not Biden himself. »But the campaign, I thought, was not going in the right direction, and I expressed my concern about that, » she added.Pelosi made similar points in a recent interview on The Guardian’s Politics Weekly America podcast. « I have the greatest respect for him. I think he’s one of the great consequential presidents of our country, » Pelosi said in the interview posted Tuesday. « I think his legacy had to be protected. I didn’t see that happening in the course that it was on, the election was on. » She continued, telling the U.K. outlet, « My call was just to: ‘Let’s get on a better course.’ He will make the decision as to what that is. And he made that decision. But I think he has some unease because we’ve been friends for decades. »CLICK HERE FOR MORE COVERAGE OF MEDIA AND CULTUREDuring an interview with CBS News in August, Biden said that Democratic lawmakers urged him to step aside. »A number of my Democratic colleagues in the House and Senate thought that I was going to hurt them in the races. And I was concerned if I stayed in the race, that would be the topic, you’d be interviewing me about why did Nancy Pelosi say – why did – and I thought it’d be a real distraction, » Biden told CBS News’ Bob Costa. On CNN, Amanpour asked the congresswoman whether she believes the Democratic Party could have won the election if Biden was still on the ticket. Pelosi replied, « You see, it’s hard to ask me that question because I don’t understand how anybody could vote for Donald Trump, but they do and so we have to be prepared. »She did admit to being concerned that Biden’s age was going to be a challenge for the party. « I do think there was a generational thing though that had to be recognized – the two of them – so old to be running for president. »CLICK HERE TO GET THE FOX NEWS APPFox News Digital’s Hanna Panreck contributed to this report.

Atlantic article comparing Trump to 'Hitler, Stalin' sparks criticism online from journalists, pundits

Journalists and political commentators responded on social media to an article from The Atlantic comparing former President Trump to multiple fascist dictators, including Adolf Hitler. The Atlantic article, headlined, « Trump Is Speaking Like Hitler, Stalin, and Mussolini » was published Friday. « The former president has brought dehumanizing language into American presidential politics, » Atlantic writer Anne Applebaum argued. « When you spend 8 years calling a person every bad name you can think of — including Hitler — only to see that it’s not working, so you desperately decide the only thing left for you to do is call him all the bad names at once, » independent journalist Glenn Greenwald wrote on X in response to the harsh headline. DEM STRATEGISTS RATCHET UP HITLER-TRUMP COMPARISONS DESPITE CONCERNS ABOUT HEATED RHETORICRealClearPolitics co-founder and president Tom Bevan mocked the over-the-top nature of the headline, saying, « The Atlantic with a threefer. »Margot Cleveland, senior legal correspondent for The Federalist, responded, « When Hitler isn’t bad enough! »National editor for the Atlantic, Scott Stossel, praised Applebaum for her article about Trump’s rhetoric. My colleague [Applebaum] knows as much about the history of authoritarian regimes as anyone. When she says that Trump has begun using the language of Hitler, Stalin, and Mussolini with clear intentionality, pay attention. »MSNBC GUEST COMPARES TRUMP TO HITLER’S FINAL DAYS IN BUNKER OVER HIS HARRIS AI CROWD CLAIMSApplebaum called Trump’s political rhetoric « ugly and repellent » in her article. « These words belong to a particular tradition. Adolf Hitler used these kinds of terms often, » Applebaum. « In 1938, he praised his compatriots who had helped « cleanse Germany of all those parasites who drank at the well of the despair of the Fatherland and the People,' » she continued. « In occupied Warsaw, a 1941 poster displayed a drawing of a louse with a caricature of a Jewish face. The slogan: ‘Jews are lice: they cause typhus.’ Germans, by contrast, were clean, pure, healthy, and vermin-free. Hitler once described the Nazi flag as ‘the victorious sign of freedom and the purity of our blood,’ » Applebaum wrote. The Atlantic and the Trump campaign did not immediately respond to requests for comment from Fox News Digital.

MSNBC shows entire panel of Arab-American voters refusing to back Harris: ‘I don’t feel safe right now’

[ad_1]

MSNBC showed a panel of Arab-American voters declaring their refusal to support Vice President Kamala Harris, with one saying she would vote for former President Trump instead.NBC news correspondent Yasmin Vossoughian spoke to MSNBC host Katy Tur about how many Arab-Americans feel that Harris is in lockstep with President Biden when it comes to America’s support of Israel and its military action in the Middle East. Vossoughian went on to show her conversation with Lebanese-American voters in Dearborn, Michigan. »Who is voting for Donald Trump in ’24? » the news correspondent asked the panel, causing one young woman to raise her hand and then a man to reply « It’s possible. It’s definitely not Bide-uh-Harris, that’s for sure. »Vossoughian proceeded to ask, « Who is voting for Kamala Harris here? » to which there was no response. « Absolutely no? »KAMALA HARRIS’ SUPPORT WITH ARAB AND MUSLIM COMMUNITIES IN MICHIGAN IS ‘TENUOUS’: DEMOCRATIC STRATEGIST »No, » a man replied. « Not possible. » »There’s nothing she can do or say for us to change our mind, » a woman answered. »Who is voting third party in 2024? » Vossoughian went on to ask, causing 3 of the four panelists to raise their hands. »So, Jill Stein? » she asked, to which a woman nodded in affirmation. « It’s also a possibility that some of us will just abstain from voting altogether » a man replied. « But we do know that’s not the best political strategy, you know. » »Why are you voting for Donald Trump? » Vossoughian asked the young woman who said she would support him. »Because my main goal is to get someone who is actively funding a genocide out of office, » the young woman replied, later confirming the nature of her vote was « against Kamala Harris. »Vossoughian pressed her, arguing, « Donald Trump has said he will reinstate the Muslim ban. »To which the young woman responded with skepticism, saying, « He said that last time. »MICHAEL MOORE URGES VP KAMALA HARRIS TO APPEAL TO ARAB AMERICANS OVER ‘SERIOUS CONCERNS’ ABOUT LOSING MICHIGANWhen asked about a claim Trump wants Netanyahu to « finish the job, » she doubled down on the idea that Trump is more bark than bite when it comes to policy, but is a better guarantor of safety. »Donald Trump said a lot of things his first time around that terrified me, » the young woman said. « The campaign that the Democrats ran was that Donald Trump hates us. I felt safe around the country when Trump was in office. I don’t feel safe right now with Kamala in office. That speaks more. »One man contested that Trump is « bad news » for the country and that he would not support him with a protest vote. Vossoughian observed that some say that voting Jill Stein, functionally, may as well be a vote for Trump. »That’s a moral decision I’m going to make, that I cannot put a vote behind a man that obviously has nefarious intent. »Green Party candidate Jill Stein has been making gains with Muslim voters, leading Harris in the swing states of Arizona, Michigan, and Wisconsin, according to a recent survey by the Council on American Islamic Relations (CAIR). »These new survey findings make it clear that American Muslim voters have the potential to determine the outcomes in several key battleground states and that they are still up for grabs in the 2024 election, » said CAIR Government Affairs Director Robert McCaw.Fox News Digital reached out to the Harris campaign and did not receive an immediate reply.

Fetterman issues warning to Democrats after Elon stumps for Trump in Pennsylvania

[ad_1]

Pennsylvania Senator John Fetterman is warning fellow Democrats not to dismiss Elon Musk’s support for former President Trump in the Keystone State.Nineteen Electoral College votes are at stake in Pennsylvania on Nov. 5 and the state is rated a toss up by Fox News’ Power Rankings. With both Trump and Vice President Harris fiercely competing there, and the winner likely to take the White House, the plain-dressed and plainspoken Fetterman told the New York Post in an interview that « Musk is a concern. » « Not even just that he has endorsed [Trump], but the fact that now he’s becoming an active participant and showing up and doing rallies and things like that, » Fetterman said, explaining that the enormously successful Tesla and SpaceX CEO is an attractive figure for the kinds of voters Harris needs to win. »I mean, [Musk] is incredibly successful, and, you know, I think some people would see him as, like, a Tony Stark, » said Fetterman, referencing the popular Marvel Comics character. « Democrats, you know, kind of make light of it, or they make fun of him jumping up and down and things like that. And I would just say that they are doing that at our peril. »FETTERMAN ADMITS ELON MUSK ‘ATTRACTIVE TO A DEMOGRAPHIC’ DEMOCRATS ‘NEED’ TO WIN PENNSYLVANIAMusk, the world’s richest man, has described himself as a centrist and voted for Democrats in the past. He has since stated in various social media posts that the Democratic Party has drifted too leftward, embracing what he calls the « woke mind virus. » He appeared at a rally in Butler, Pennsylvania, alongside Trump earlier this month, where he told a crowd of Trump supporters that this is the « most important election of our lifetime. »Musk also posted on X that he would be speaking at a series of town hall events in the battleground state through the weekend.Additionally, the billionaire has put his money where his mouth is, donating $75 million to a pro-Trump super PAC, which focuses on voter turnout. TRUMP SUPPORTER ELON MUSK OFFERS MASSIVE HOURLY PAY TO THOSE WORKING TO INCREASE VOTER TURNOUTFetterman, who at times has clashed with the progresive wing of his party, told the Post that while he is not in a panic over 2024, the election in Pennsylvania is « going to be ridiculously close. » « Trump has a connection that’s undeniable. And anyone that spends any time across Pennsylvania can see that kind of devotion and that’s why it’s going to be very close, » Fetterman said, « Pennsylvania picks the president. »Fetterman had stood solidly behind President Biden while other Democrats sought to drive the president out of the 2024 race after his widely-panned debate performance against Trump in June. He maintains that Biden would be competitive with Trump had he not withdrawn. »I’d like to remind everybody that Biden is the only person that’s ever beaten Trump, » Fetterman said,ELON MUSK UNVEILS TESLA’S ROBOVAN, ROBOTAXI, HUMANOID ROBOTSHe described the effort to put Biden out to pasture as « a total blowtorch. » « You had the Democratic side, you have the ongoing, right wing media, and then the celebrities got involved in it as well, too. And then the New York Times became the, ‘he’s got to go’ outlet throughout all that as well. »Fetterman emphasized that he fully supports Harris now and believes she can win Pennsylvania. »Harris could not have run a better campaign than she has so far right now, » he told the Post.Fox News Digital’s Hanna Panreck contributed to this report.

Netanyahu’s defiance of Biden-Harris Rafah invasion threats led to elimination of Sinwar, experts say

Netanyahu’s defiance of Biden-Harris Rafah invasion threats led to elimination of Sinwar, experts say

[ad_1]

JERUSALEM — Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s decision to ignore dire warnings from President Biden and Vice President Harris not to conquer the last major stronghold of Hamas terrorists in Rafah proved to be correct, according to military and Middle East experts.Israel Defense Forces (IDF) and the country’s Shin Bet intelligence agency announced Wednesday that « soldiers from the Southern Command eliminated Yahya Sinwar, the leader of the Hamas terrorist organization, in an operation in the southern Gaza Strip. »Biden and Harris congratulated Israel over the death of the Hamas terror chief, but, earlier this year, both warned Israel about going into Rafah, where Sinwar met his end.   HAMAS ADMITS ‘PAINFUL, DISTRESSING’ LOSSES AFTER ISRAELI VIDEO SHOWS TERRORIST SINWAR MOMENTS BEFORE HIS DEATHSinwar oversaw the massacre of nearly 1,200 people Oct. 7, 2023, including over 40 American citizens. In March, Harris declined to rule out « consequences » for Israel if it moved forward with an invasion of Rafah in Gaza. »We have been clear in multiple conversations and in every way that any major military operation in Rafah would be a huge mistake, » Harris told ABC News at the time. »Let me tell you something. I have studied the maps. There’s nowhere for those folks to go. »Also in March, Biden National Security Advisor Jake Sullivan echoed Harris’ warning. « Our position is that Hamas should not be allowed a safe haven in Rafah or anywhere else, » Sullivan noted during a White House Press briefing. « But a major ground operation there would be a mistake. It would lead to more innocent civilian deaths, worsen the already dire humanitarian crisis, deepen the anarchy in Gaza and further isolate Israel internationally. »In May, Biden went as far as threatening Israel, saying he would not furnish the Jewish state with weapons if it entered Rafah. Biden told CNN « if they go into Rafah, I’m not supplying the weapons that have been used historically to deal with Rafah, to deal with the cities — that deal with that problem. »Amit Segal, chief political analyst of Israel’s Channel 12, told Fox News Digital, « The elimination of Sinwar proves that the continuation of the war was not a whim, the entry into Rafah was not a vendetta and the refusal to surrender to Hamas to resolve the northern front was not a rash decision. »There is a strategy, and it is to ensure, front by front, that the entire Middle East sees what happens to those who attack Israel. »BIDEN ADMINISTRATION ISSUES WARNING TO NETANYAHU AS ISRAEL HOLDS EMERGENCY MEETING ON GAZA AIDNew information emerged about the elimination of Sinwar Friday. An IDF spokesman said « Sinwar’s main goal was to wipe Israel off the map. This operation achievement is one fragment out of a one-year endeavor » in Gaza. He said Sinwar was in the « same tunnel where six hostages were executed » in August. One of the six hostages murdered was Israeli-American Hersh Goldberg-Polin.  « We understand Sinwar was in that area; a few hundred meters from that tunnel is where he was eliminated, » the IDF spokesman noted, adding there are « indications of senior Hamas leaders in Rafah area. » There are 14,000 occurrences of Hamas booby-trapped buildings in the Rafah area, the IDF spokesman added. »Had Prime Minister Netanyahu listened to Biden and Harris and not entered Rafah, we may have never reached Sinwar. The people of America and Israel overwhelmingly supported our entry into Rafah and want to see Hamas committed to the annals of history. Now it’s time to finish Hamas and bring home the hostages, » Israeli Lt. Col (res) Yoni Chetboun, former deputy speaker of the Knesset and a decorated special forces operator, told Fox News Digital.ELIMINATION OF SINWAR IS ‘SIGNIFICANT AND PRESENTS OPPORTUNITY FOR CEASE-FIRE, STATE DEPARTMENT SAYS Harris’ misjudgment about the ground war in Gaza sparked some intense criticism and ridicule on social media from foreign policy experts. American-Israeli Middle East expert Caroline Glick, wrote on X, « Sinwar was killed in Rafah — a mile from the Egyptian border. Kamala threatened Israel with sanctions if we went in. Oh, and she studied the maps. » The campaign by the U.S. government and the European Union to rope in Israel’s push to eradicate the Iranian regime-backed terrorist movements, Hamas and Hezbollah, has so far not seemed to impact Netanyahu’s war plans.Josep Borrell, the left-wing European Union’s foreign policy chief who suggested in February that the United States slash military aid to Israel, said at the time there was no military solution to defeat Hamas. Max Abrahms, a leading expert on counterterrorism and a tenured professor of political science at Northeastern University, told Fox News Digital, « Biden and Harris have been basing their advice to Netanyahu on American political calculations. The White House is keenly aware that the Democratic Party has a strong anti-Israel constituency. For this reason, the White House has tried to coerce Netanyahu to withdraw Israeli forces from Gaza before the Hamas threat is fully handled and specifically against a Rafah operation. »Had Netanyahu heeded that advice, Sinwar would be alive. Israel is safer for ignoring this White House, an important lesson as Netanyahu weighs military options against Iran. »Following news of Sinwar’s death, a reporter at the State Department briefing on Thursday asked Spokesman Matthew Miller whether the Biden Administration’s policy towards Israel invading Rafah was in hindsight preemptive.  In his response, Miller said: « No, I will say that we always made clear that we supported Israel conducting counterterrorism operations to target the leaders of Hamas and to target Hamas militants. And not only did we make clear we supported it, but we provided active intelligence support for those operations. And I think I’ll leave it at that. »Fox News Digital press queries asking President Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris whether they erred in their warnings to Netanyahu over Rafah were not returned. Fox News Digital’s Anders Hagstrom contributed to this report.

November 5th – ElectionMania. The choice is yours. You can go with President Trump, Kane and The Undertaker or you can take Kamala Harris, Dave Bautista and Tim Walz. Choose wisely – the nation depends on it, » Callaway said in a TikTok vieo. »And that should be an easy choice, » Trump added.Trump sat in between Jacobs and Callaway – known at one time in WWE as the Brothers of Destruction. Trump is a WWE Hall of Famer himself. He appeared at several of the early WrestleMania events and was involved in a Hair vs. Hair match with Vince McMahon, Bobby Lashley and the late wrestler known as Umaga. The Republican presidential nominee’s appearance with the wrestling greats came after Bautista made a video firing shots left and right at Trump as he expressed his support for Vice President Kamala Harris and Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz for president.THE ROCK FIRES OFF WARNING AFTER RETURN AT WWE BAD BLOOD STUNS FANS »Fellas, we gotta talk, » Bautista said in part. « A lot of men seem to think that Donald Trump is some kind of tough guy. He’s not. I mean, look at him, he wears more make-up than Dolly Parton. He whines like a baby. The guy is afraid of birds. Montana Senate race, which could determine majority, seeing ‘intense ground game operation’: NRSC Chairman

Montana Senate race, which could determine majority, seeing 'intense ground game operation': NRSC Chairman

[ad_1]

EXCLUSIVE: Montana’s U.S. Senate race has one of the most « intense » ground games of the 2024 cycle with the chamber majority hanging in the balance, according to the chairman of the Republican campaign arm. Sen. Steve Daines is spearheading Republican efforts to take control of the Senate as chairman of the National Republican Senatorial Committee (NRSC), with a heightened emphasis on ousting a three-term Democrat in red state Montana.Daines exclusively told Fox News Digital the Montana Senate race pitting Navy SEAL Tim Sheehy against three-term Democratic Sen. Jon Tester features one of the strongest ground game efforts from the GOP he has witnessed in the state. »I’ve watched a lot of Montana Senate races, House races, governor races over the years. This is the most intense ground game operation and the most far-reaching that I’ve seen in many election cycles, » Daines told Fox News Digital. « It’s a door-to-door type of persuasion, as well as a lot of phoning, a lot of digital. So, it’s a really strong ground game, knowing that I think well-run ground games win elections. »COLLEGE ATHLETES ARE BEING OFFERED THOUSANDS TO ENDORSE MONTANA SENATOR’S RE-ELECTION BID THROUGH NIL DEALSThe New York Times recently reported that Sheehy is leading Tester by eight percentage points, but Daines emphasized that while the Republican candidate remains ahead in several polls, they are going to continue energizing their get-out-the-vote efforts until Election Day. »It’s a very aggressive, active time with just a little over 2½ weeks until the election focused on voter turnout and ground game operations, as well as continuing to have the sufficient resources, » Daines said. « Get the message out to those few undecided voters that are left, whether it’s through television, radio, digital mail. So, we’re not letting up. You keep working hard all the way until Election Day. »The Montana race figures to be the most expensive Senate race on a per-vote basis, which Daines attributes to its high stakes. »This is what secures the majority for the Republicans and takes the gavel out of Chuck Schumer’s hands, » he told Fox. « And that’s why there’s so much focused attention on this race. »In early September, two political forecasters shifted the Montana race from a toss-up to « leans Republican, » along with AARP and the NYT surveys showing the Republican leading the race against the three-term Democrat.A visit to Bozeman by former President Trump in August, who endorsed Sheehy earlier this year, contributed to the recent polling shift in the Republican candidate’s favor, according to the chairman.KEY SENATOR REPORTEDLY BEHIND HARRIS’ RISE IN POWER WITHHOLDS HIS ENDORSEMENT FOR PRESIDENTThe electorate in Montana has shifted toward the GOP over the years, and Tester remains the only Democrat to hold a statewide office in the state. »I think what’s happened is Montana, in terms of their voting and their thinking, has moved a bit more. But the biggest problem for the Democrats is they’ve moved so far left. This is not the same Democrat Party that I grew up with here in Montana, » Daines said of the red wave in the state.Daines also highlighted the national implications of the Big Sky Senate race. »This race is bigger than Montana, because this race indeed will decide the future of the United States Supreme Court, the future of the circuit courts, » Daines said. « There’s also the Trump tax cuts that expire in ’25, which would be a massive tax increase for Montana’s small businesses. « Jon Tester voted against that tax bill. I voted for it. Tim Sheehy would vote for that. So, there’s just a lot at stake, not only for Montana but for the nation. And, so, we here in Montana will probably be able to flip the majority control of the U.S. Senate with Tim Sheehy’s victory. And that has significant implications, not only for the great state of Montana, but for our great country. » There are 34 Senate seats up for grabs this cycle, and Democrats are protecting 23 of them. The Senate majority stands at 51-50 with Democrats in the majority, meaning just a one seat flip could shift the majority to the Republican Party.

Homelessness, drug addiction drive public safety concerns in largest Vermont city: ‘I don’t walk at night’

Homelessness, drug addiction drive public safety concerns in largest Vermont city: ‘I don’t walk at night'

[ad_1]

Residents and business owners in Burlington, Vermont, spoke to Fox News Digital this week about the challenges their city is facing with an increase in homelessness and drug use on city streets, with some saying they’re worried about their physical safety. Fox News caught up with locals on Church Street, a prominent area in Burlington lined with boutiques and upscale restaurants. They admitted that in recent years, the idyllic downtown on Lake Champlain has become an area where significant numbers of homeless people congregate. Among them are individuals addicted to hard drugs like fentanyl, families who have been negatively affected by the economy, as well those who have turned to crime to support their lives on the streets. Multiple residents told Fox News the situation has them concerned about public safety. « It’s really good during the day, but during the night, like people have said, it’s really dangerous, » one young local resident named Lucas said.PHILADELPHIA POLICE, OFFICIALS WARN OF A ‘VICIOUS CYCLE’ INCREASING VIOLENCE IN THE CITYBurlington, where Sen. Bernie Sanders, I-Vt., served as mayor from 1981 to 1989, is the most populated city in Vermont despite having an estimated 44,000 residents. It has seen a significant uptick in its homeless population in the past several years. According to outreach groups, there are over 350 homeless people living on city streets – a record number. As local leaders told Fox News, many of these unhoused individuals have been ravaged by addiction, driven by drugs like fentanyl and xylazine, also known as « tranq. »Vermont itself has seen a 500% uptick in drug overdose deaths in the last ten years. Local outlets have reported that first responders have been overwhelmed by the number of overdoses in the city. Despite the compassion that residents and local business owners say they feel towards the homeless, especially those suffering with mental illness and drug addiction, many admitted they’ve been concerned about the effects on the local economy, tourism and the well-being of residents. « I don’t walk at night, » an elderly woman named Nancy told Fox News Digital. When asked why, she replied, « ‘Cause it’s dangerous. » »People get beat up at nighttime, » she said, adding that she’s « very lucky » to have not become a victim of assault herself. She recalled how a neighbor of hers went out for a smoke one night and « got beaten up really bad. » The culprits also attempted to destroy a wheelchair the individual was using to get around. « Nobody goes out » after dark, she insisted.A local business owner named Patricia acknowledged that « community safety » needs to be as much of a concern of the city government as the well-being of the homeless and addicted population. »There seems to be a lot of focus in this town and by the government on helping people who are addicted, » she said, adding, « There seems to be a lack of respect for people who are doing business, you know, who are trying to run a store. » She stated that some businesses have left due to the drug abuse and crime occurring just outside their doors. PHILADELPHIA NEIGHBORHOOD TROUBLED BY HOMELESS PROBLEM, DRUG USERS WITH FLESH FALLING OFF BONETom, who works in the city, said there’s a homeless and drug addiction problem, but he insisted on not blaming the homeless community itself. »Obviously, there’s a big issue with the homelessness problem out here. You know, no fault of their own, it’s just kind of the nature of the housing market and the COVID epidemic, and everything in between, » he said. « We just need more housing in Vermont and specifically here in Burlington, that’s a problem. »He said there seemed to be a significant decrease in police presence downtown, stating, « When I was living here about five or six years ago, there were a lot more police around. »The city is currently working to hire more officers and funnel money back into law enforcement after a portion of the department’s budget was slashed. About 30% of the town’s force was also cut by attrition. When asked if he’s seen evidence of drug use in city streets, he replied, « There’s a lot of needles on the ground everywhere. » He insisted he feels safe walking in the city and that he’s « not actively in fear for my life, » but admitted that he tries « to be aware of my surroundings. »Others told us they were less concerned about public safety, despite admitting to the homeless issue. Zyn, another young Burlington resident, said that the problems in the city are overblown. « Personally, I think everyone kind of says Burlington’s like, it’s a bad place or it’s dangerous, but I disagree. I think if you’re – just don’t be dumb. Just don’t go out tickling homeless people. »August, a young local resident, said, « Sometimes downtown at night isn’t the greatest, but overall, it’s a good city with good people. » »I think that there’s definitely some homelessness and mental health issues, » he continued, « but I think that with a little bit more planning, we can solve those issues. » He added he feels safe in Burlington. When asked if he feels safe downtown, Deacon, another young resident, replied, « During the day I do. But during the night, like August said, there’s drug abuse issues that have gone slightly unchecked. »He added that he’s found « a few needles » and « seen a few people having a pretty good time » in the city’s streets. City leaders say they are actively engaging with the local community and government to provide better access to mental health facilities, public housing, shelters and drug treatment programs, among other solutions.Asked for comment about the state of the city that launched his political career, Sen. Sanders’ team did not immediately reply to a request for comment.

Former President Trump is making an unusual campaign stop this weekend in battleground Pennsylvania. The Republican presidential nominee will be behind the counter working the fry cooker at a McDonald’s restaurant in the Philadelphia area. »A friend of mine owns a McDonald’s someplace, » Trump said Friday in an extended interview on « Fox and Friends » when asked about his weekend plans for manning the fry station at the fast-food institution. « Oh, I’m going. NASA has released the clearest view of Mars to date, with blue rocks observed across the planet’s landscape. The images were captured by the Perseverance rover as it explores the planet.Dark blue, jagged rocks of volcanic basalt were found on top of the dried remains of an ancient lakebed, according to the Daily Mail.10 FUN FACTS ABOUT MARS, ALSO KNOWN AS THE RED PLANETNASA found the boulders on what has been dubbed « Mount Washburn, » a rocky field on the Jezero crater, where an ancient lake is believed to have been located billions of years ago.The name « Mount Washburn » was given to the field of rocks in honor of a mountain in Yellowstone National Park.SPACEX LAUNCHES MISSION TO SPACE STATION THAT WILL BRING BACK STRANDED NASA ASTRONAUTS NEXT YEARThe rover came upon a white-striped rock within the field of blue boulders. The Perseverance science team nicknamed the light-toned boulder with dark speckles « Atoko Point. »While the blue rocks are primarily volcanic basalt, which is typical of Martian terrain, NASA concluded that « Atoko Point » is made of anorthosite-a silica-rich volcanic rock, which has never been documented on Mars.CLICK HERE TO GET THE FOX NEWS APPThis rock type had been theorized to exist but never seen on the Martian landscape, according to Marca. »Are there other rocks like this near the Jezero Crater rim? Eye of the Storm: Back-to-back hurricanes threaten to upend Harris-Trump presidential showdown

Eye of the Storm: Back-to-back hurricanes threaten to upend Harris-Trump presidential showdown

[ad_1]

As the death toll rises and roughly a quarter of a million people remain without power or running water a week and a half after Hurricane Helen tore a path of destruction through the southeast United States, another powerful storm is bearing down on the region.Hurricane Milton, now an extremely dangerous Category 5 storm, is on course to slam into Florida Wednesday evening. With four weeks to go until Election Day in November and Vice President Kamala Harris and former President Trump locked in a bitter margin-of-error showdown in the race to succeed President Biden in the White House, and with two of the hardest-hit states from Helene — North Carolina and Georgia — among the seven key battlegrounds that will likely determine the outcome of the 2024 election – the politics of federal disaster relief are once again front and center on the campaign trail.Trump has been attacking the vice president and her boss over the federal response to Hurricane Helene for well over a week. Harris, on Monday, fired back, accusing Trump of pushing « a lot of mis and disinformation. » HEAD HERE FOR THE LATEST FOX NEWS WEATHER UPDATES ON HURRICANE MILTONThe former president has repeatedly charged that Biden and Harris have been incompetant in their handling of rescue and recovery efforts. »It is going down as the WORST & MOST INCOMPETENTLY MANAGED ‘STORM,’ AT THE FEDERAL LEVEL, EVER SEEN BEFORE, » Trump claimed last week.On Monday, he argued in a social media post that the administration’s storm response was « the WORST rescue operation in the history of the U.S. »And Trump’s running mate, Sen. JD Vance of Ohio, charged Monday in a « Fox and Friends » interview that the administration’s efforts were « incompetence of the highest order. »The Trump campaign, in announcing Vance would hold a town hall Thursday in Greensboro, North Carolina, argued that Harris « completely left North Carolina behind in the wake of devastation post-Hurricane Helene. »And in a blatant pitch for votes, the former president claimed that « NORTH CAROLINA HAS BEEN VIRTUALLY ABANDONED BY KAMALA!!! DROP HER LIKE SHE DROPPED YOU – VOTE FOR PRESIDENT DONALD J. TRUMP. MAGA2024! »CLICK HERE FOR UP-TO-DATE FOX NEWS REPORTING ON THE STORMSTrump’s repeatedly made unsubstantiated claims as he’s targeted Biden and Harris – among them that Republican Gov. Brian Kemp of Georgia had been unable to reach Biden when Helene first tore through the Peach State. Kemp later confirmed that he had already been in contact with the president.Despite the untruths from the former president, he did beat Biden and Harris to the scene, surveying the storm-damaged region two days before they did last week. The optics put the president and vice president on defense, and they’ve been forced to repeatedly correct the record. The White House has publicized FEMA’s [Federal Emergency Management Agency] efforts in assisting the hard-hit states. Biden made back-to-back trips to the southeast last Wednesday and Thursday, as he stopped in the four hardest hit states, and Harris also made two trips to survey damage.Huddled with Democratic and Republican politicians from the region last week, Biden emphasized that « in a moment like this, we put politics aside, at least we should put it all aside. We have here — there are no Democrats or Republicans, only Americans — our job is to help as many people as we can, as quickly as we can, and as thoroughly as we can. »Trump – along with his allies – has repeatedly aimed to tie the storm response to the combustible issue of border security, as he claimed that FEMA funds for the rescue and relief efforts in North Carolina were being diverted to support undocumented migrants. The Harris campaign, firing back, said that Trump and Vance and their allies have been « pushing debunked lies about Hurricane Helene response. »A top North Carolina Republican – Sen. Thom Tillis – asked about the charges, said on the Sunday talk shows that « I believe that we have to stay focused on rescue operations, recovery operations, clearing operations, and we don’t need any of these distractions on the ground. »Harris, on Monday, called Trump’s actions « extraordinarily irresponsible. » »It’s about him. It’s not about you. And the reality is that FEMA has so many resources that are available to folks who desperately need them now, and resources that are about helping people get back on their feet and rebuild and have places to go, » Harris emphasized. But longtime Republican strategist David Kochel noted that Trump had been « very aggressive » with his initial quick trip to the storm-damaged region. « I think he put a lot of pressure on them to try to do something, » Kochel, a veteran of numerous GOP presidential campaigns, told Fox News. « He’s out there pushing a line that they don’t care, they’re not doing anything, and I think they’re reacting to it. »Now, with Hurricane Milton bearing down on Florida, the Biden administration highlighted their efforts in a release headlined « Federal Assistance for Hurricane Helene Exceeds $210 Million, FEMA Prepares for Dual Response with Hurricane Milton Strengthening as it Moves Toward Gulf Coast of Florida. »As Biden declared a state of emergency in Florida on Monday, Republican Gov. Ron DeSantis of Florida said during a news conference that 5,000 National Guardsmen had been mobilized in his state, with another 3,000 on the way. »We have gotten what we need from the feds, » DeSantis said. « The president has approved what we asked for….I’m thankful for that.. Everything we’ve asked for from President Biden, he’s approved. »This is far from the first time that a tropical storm has impacted a presidential race.Then-President George H.W. Bush took a political hit over FEMA’s disorganized efforts to provide relief in Florida from Hurricane Andrew, which pounded the then-key battleground state weeks before Election Day.Fast-forward a decade and his son – then-President George W. Bush – likely enjoyed a political bounce in Florida during his 2004 re-election thanks to his aggressive response to Hurricane Charley, which hit in August of that year.Bush was narrowly re-elected, thanks in large part to carrying the Sunshine State, but his administration’s image in handling storms took a major hit the next year, over the botched response in Louisiana to Hurricane Katrina. As he ran for re-election in 2012, then-President Barack Obama’s aggressive response in dealing with Superstorm Sandy -which slammed into the Eastern Seaboard days before the election – likely boosted him to victory.Trump, in his first year in office, faced criticism as Puerto Rico struggled to recover from a powerful storm. The president was pilloried for throwing paper towels to the crowd as he stopped by a relief center during a storm-related visit to the island. But the incident – which took place three years before his re-election effort – was vastly overshadowed by his response to the COVID crisis, the worst pandemic to hit the globe in a century.Get the latest updates from the 2024 campaign trail, exclusive interviews and more at our Fox News Digital election hub.

79 days: Kamala Harris has yet to do formal press conference since emerging as Democratic nominee

[ad_1]

Vice President Kamala Harris has gone 79 days as the presumptive, and now, official Democratic nominee for president without holding an official press conference. Trump has held six news conferences where he took questions from the media since the beginning of August, including another on Friday after meeting with Georgia Gov. Brian Kemp about hurricane relief efforts.President Biden also held a news conference in the White House press briefing room on Friday, where he joked about getting back into the 2024 race.BERNIE SANDERS SAYS HARRIS DROPPING FAR-LEFT POLICIES ‘IN ORDER TO WIN THE ELECTION’Harris has stepped up her interviews in recent weeks, including doing radio hits and a solo sit-down with a Philadelphia TV station. She also spoke to MSNBC’s Stephanie Ruhle and she made time to hang out with supporter Oprah Winfrey last month at a star-studded campaign event. This week she taped an interview on the « Call Her Daddy » podcast. But as for when she’ll actually do a formal press conference as a candidate, that day may never come, at least while she’s still a candidate.Conservative Radio Libre host Jorge Bonilla feels Harris should do a press conference but said it’s almost « irrelevant » because she continues to get a pass. HARRIS DODGES QUESTION ON LOWERING PRICES BY DESCRIBING ‘MIDDLE-CLASS’ ROOTS: NEIGHBORS ‘PROUD OF THEIR LAWN’ »She is highly unlikely to do a press conference because the media have enabled and encouraged her ‘plexiglass basement’ strategy, wherein she preserves the illusion of being out there while remaining wholly inaccessible to the press and therefore unaccountable, » Bonilla told Fox News Digital. In her interview in Philadelphia, her answer citing her middle-class upbringing when asked about specifics of her economic policy drew sharp criticism.BARBARA WALTERS WOULD EXPECT KAMALA HARRIS TO DO INTERVIEWS, AUTHOR SAYS: ‘PART OF THE JOB OF BEING PRESIDENT' »You know, I grew up in a neighborhood of folks who were very proud of their lawn, » she said. « And I was raised to believe and to know that all people deserve dignity, and that we as Americans have a beautiful character. You know, we have ambitions and aspirations and dreams, but not everyone necessarily has access to the resources that can help them fuel those dreams and ambitions. « So when I talk about building an opportunity economy, it is very much with the mind of investing in the ambitions and aspirations and the incredible work ethic of the American people and creating opportunity for people, for example, to start a small business. »Fox News Digital’s Paul Steinhauser contributed to this report.

Kimmel pokes fun at Walz after interview gaffe about ‘waking up on November 6 with Madam President’

Kimmel pokes fun at Walz after interview gaffe about 'waking up on November 6 with Madam President'

[ad_1]

Democratic Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz raised some eyebrows about what he plans to do on Nov. 6 during his late-night debut on « Jimmy Kimmel Live. »On Monday, Walz and liberal host Jimmy Kimmel took turns knocking his GOP rival Sen. JD Vance, R-Ohio, over his refusal to say that former President Trump lost the 2020 election during last week’s vice presidential debate.Walz called it « very surreal » to listen to, but pivoted to his own optimism that the country will « turn the page » on Election Day. »For me, and being an eternal optimist, I always say that. I supervised a high school lunchroom – you’re an optimist or you’re dead, » Walz said.  « This idea that look, we get to turn the page on that, and I plan on waking up on November 6 with Madam President. »‘60 MINUTES’ ASKS HARRIS WHETHER IT WAS A ‘MISTAKE’ FOR BIDEN ADMIN TO GO SOFT ON BORDER, VP REPEATEDLY DODGESWhile the liberal audience roared with cheers, Kimmel jokingly asked for a clarification. « I want to be clear, you won’t be waking up together, » Kimmel responded with a grin. »No, » Walz laughed. « Unless you guys have gotten closer than we thought, » Kimmel quipped. « I have a problem about not being specific with my language. So thank you for that, specifically right, » Walz chuckled. MEDIA CRITICS PAN WALZ’S ‘UNSTEADY’ DEBATE PERFORMANCE: ‘CLEAR LACK OF PREPARATION AND EXECUTION’Walz previously went viral when he mistakenly claimed that he had « become friends with school shooters » during the vice presidential debate. »I sat in that office with those Sandy Hook parents. I’ve become friends with school shooters. I’ve seen it, » Walz said.WALZ STUNS THE INTERNET WITH VP DEBATE GAFFE: ‘I’VE BECOME FRIENDS WITH SCHOOL SHOOTERS’The poorly timed mishap occurred when Walz was asked about changing positions on banning assault weapons, which he previously opposed but now supports. Walz meant he had become friendly with parents who lost children to school shootings. He also made headlines when he referred to himself as a « knucklehead » after he was pressed about his falsehood about being in Hong Kong during the Tiananmen Square massacre. During an interview on « 60 Minutes, » Walz was asked whether he could be trusted as other past statements have faced intense scrutiny. « Is that kind of misrepresentation- isn’t that more than just being a knucklehead? » CBS News’ Bill Whitaker asked. « I think folks know who I am and I think they know the difference between someone expressing emotion, telling a story, getting a date wrong … than a pathological liar like Donald Trump, » Walz said. « But I think it comes down to the question of whether you can be trusted to tell the truth, » Whitaker followed. « Yeah, well, I can. I think I can, » Walz responded. « I will own up to being a knucklehead at times, but the folks closest to me know that I keep my word, » Walz added.Fox News’ Brian Flood contributed to this report.
