Barbora Krejcikova delivers thrilling Wimbledon women’s final, wins second career Grand Slam title

[ad_1]

Barbora Krejcikova outlasted Jasmine Paolini Saturday to win the second Grand Slam singles title of her career. It took Krejcikova three match points to overcome a fierce comeback by Paolini, but she ultimately defeated the Italian tennis star 6-2, 2-6, 6-4 in the women’s Wimbledon final in London.Moments after she won the prestigious title for the first time, Krejcikova said she hoped her victory at the All England Club made the late Jana Novotná proud. »The only thing that was going through my head, » Krejcikova said of that moment, « was that I miss Jana a lot. It was just very, very emotional. … I think she would be proud. »CLICK HERE FOR MORE SPORTS COVERAGE ON FOXNEWS.COMKrejcikova grew up admiring Novotná, the 1998 Wimbledon champion. Novotná and Krejcikova are both natives of the Czech Republic. Novotná once encouraged Krejcikova to stick with tennis and predicted she would one day win a Grand Slam.NOVAK DJOKOVIC ABRUPTLY ENDS INTERVIEW OVER REPEATED QUESTIONS ON WIMBLEDON CROWDEven after holding on to win on her third match point, Krejcikova insisted that nobody — not her friends, not her family, not even herself — would believe what she’s accomplished. It was relatively unlikely, after all, given that she dealt with a back injury and illness this season and her record in 2024 was just 7-9 when she arrived at the grass court major.Krejcikova is the eighth woman to leave Wimbledon as the champion in the past eight editions of the event. Last year’s champion, unseeded Marketa Vondrousova, is also from the Czech Republic. She lost in the first round last week.Paolini, the runner-up to Iga Świątek at the French Open last month, is the first woman since Serena Williams in 2016 to get to the finals at Roland Garros and Wimbledon in the same season and the first since Venus Williams in 2002 to lose both. »If I keep this level, » Paolini said, « I think I can have the chance to do great things. »This match was as back-and-forth as could be.Fittingly, the last game took 14 points to decide, with Krejcikova needing to fend off a pair of break chances. She eventually converted her third match point when Paolini missed a backhand. »I was just telling myself to be brave, » said Krejcikova, who also owns seven Grand Slam titles in women’s doubles, including two at Wimbledon, and three in mixed doubles.During the trophy ceremony, Krejcikova spoke about Novotná’s influence on her tennis life — and her life, in general — as she did following her singles triumph in Paris in 2021.A reporter asked Krejcikova what she’d like to say to Novotná now that they both are Wimbledon champions. »Well, I think I would turn it around, » Krejcikova said with a smile. « I would like to hear what she would tell me. »The Associated Press contributed to this report.Follow Fox News Digital’s sports coverage on X, and subscribe to the Fox News Sports Huddle newsletter.

Enes Kanter Freedom says Bronny James was only drafted because of his dad, the ‘dictator of the NBA’

[ad_1]

Add Enes Kanter Freedom to the list of people who are calling out nepotism in the NBA.In case you missed it, Bronny James, LeBron’s son, was drafted by his father’s Los Angeles Lakers with the 55th overall. That came despite one scout calling him « not an NBA prospect » after he averaged less than five points per game in his lone season at USC.CLICK HERE FOR MORE SPORTS COVERAGE ON FOXNEWS.COMThe 19-year-old did have a cardiac arrest over the summer that stunted his progression, but nonetheless, scouts weren’t too kind to him in the process.Considering that it was the Lakers who drafted Bronny, Kanter Freedom had to call it like he saw it. »He might be a good dude, but he’s not good enough to play in the NBA. The reason he got drafted is because of LeBron, the reason JJ Redick is the coach is because of LeBron, » he told OutKick’s « Don’t @ Me. »He took it a step further, saying that Bronny is the only person that wants to play with LeBron.KNICKS STAR JALEN BRUNSON ACCEPTS ‘UNPRECEDENTED’ TEAM-FRIENDLY DEAL THAT COST HIM OVER $100 MILLION: REPORT »No other player wants to go play with LeBron. You had so many other free agents. . . . No one wanted to go play with him, because they know that it’s all about LeBron, » he continued. « They’re gonna get zero clout. . . . When the Lakers’ season fails, LeBron tries to find a player to blame, and he blamed the whole season on Russell Westbrook, so he is not a good teammate. Obviously, he runs the media, and he tries to control this narrative, but when you actually know and have a conversation inside of the NBA and its players, nobody wants to play with him. . . . »When I see a dictator, I know it – LeBron is literally like the dictator of the NBA. He controls the media, he controls his narrative, if you go against his agenda, you get traded, everybody knows it. »Bronny has scored four, five and three points in his three Summer League games.Follow Fox News Digital’s sports coverage on X, and subscribe to the Fox News Sports Huddle newsletter.

Fact check: No, Biden has never been a good, honest, or decent man

[ad_1]

It is a talking point we’ve heard ad nauseam since the President Joe Biden debate debacle in Atlanta and one we can expect to hear even more should Democrat power brokers convince the « Big Guy » to step aside for the good of the nation.Paraphrasing: Joe Biden is a decent/good/honest man who has enjoyed a highly successful presidency and has served his country selflessly and honorably for decades. But let’s be clear. As one of the very few people in this business to write a book on the man going back to his days in law school, I can say without fear of contradiction that Joe Biden is most certainly NOT a good or decent or honest man. In fact, he’s quite the opposite.SNOPES’ DEBUNKING OF CHARLOTTESVILLE HOAX SHOWS BIDEN LIED, SAYS TRUMP CAMPAIGNBiden also has not enjoyed even a moderately successful presidency. The cost of living is up more than 20 percent since he took office. Gas prices are up 50 percent. Violent crime has driven law-abiding citizens out of major American cities (all run by Democrats with liberal district attorneys) to red states like Texas, Tennessee and Florida. The president’s disastrous border policies have allowed more than 10 million people to enter this country illegally, including hundreds on the terror watch list. Education test scores are at their lowest levels in decades. The U.S. has provided Ukraine with a virtual blank check to fight a war against Russia that is in a hopeless stalemate. The U.S. withdrawal in Afghanistan was one of the most tragic and humiliating moments in our country’s history. And China’s posture toward Taiwan has never been more aggressive.Otherwise, wow… What a success!BIDEN REPEATS FALSE FOOTBALL CLAIM TO WEST POINT GRADUATES AT COMMENCEMENT ADDRESSBut getting back to Biden’s character, does a good or decent or honest man so plagiarize his work and speeches, both in law school and as a presidential candidate, as he did in 1988? Does a good or decent or honest man blatantly play the race card to win votes, as he did in 2020 by insisting he was arrested while on the porch with a Black couple during the civil rights era? Because that never happened.Does a good or decent or honest man tell families in Maui, some of whom lost family members and/or their homes, that he could relate to what they were going through by saying he and his family (and Corvette) also survived a raging fire in his home that nearly killed his wife and cat? Because the fire chief at the time said the blaze was a small kitchen fire that was quickly extinguished and endangered no one.Does a good or decent or honest man pretend his 7th grandchild doesn’t exist simply because she was the product of his crack-addicted son’s fling?CLICK HERE FOR MORE FOX NEWS OPINIONDoes a good or decent or honest man warn that then-presidential candidate Mitt Romney was going to put Blacks « back in chains » if elected? Does a good or decent or honest man use his late son as a prop over and over when talking to Gold Star families by saying his son Beau also died while on active duty in Iraq? Because Beau died of cancer years after coming home. Joe Biden has failed upwards his entire life and has lied so many times along the way, it’s impossible to list them all without going over a 100,000-word limit. Here are just a few of the biggest whoppers with cheese. I still can’t over that last one…You get the point. Joe Biden is not, and has never been, a good, decent or honest man, despite what every panicked Democrat and many media members insist as they try to coax him into retirement. He’s been a lousy president since 2021, and a lousy guy for at least a half century. And that’s no lie.CLICK HERE FOR MORE FROM JOE CONCHA

Meet the American who invented the gas mask and the modern traffic signal

[ad_1]

Garrett A. Morgan is emerging as a larger-than-life figure in American history.International recognition for the brilliant Cleveland entrepreneur comes a century after his life-saving inventions helped reshape the modern world — from the battlefield to the firehouse to the family road trip. He possessed a unique humanitarian gift for turning tragedy into life-saving inventions. The son of former slaves, Morgan conceived and patented the three-signal traffic control in 1923, after he reportedly witnessed a tragic automobile accident on a Cleveland street corner. FOX NATION’S NEW SERIES ‘MEET THE AMERICAN WHO’ TELLS OF ORDINARY AMERICANS WHO GAVE US EXTRAORDINARY INNOVATIONSHis vision of safer streets now helps control the ebb and flow of millions of automobiles and pedestrians on busy roads all across the globe. A decade earlier, he patented the first gas mask in response to the Triangle Shirtwaist Factory fire, which killed 146 garment workers, mostly young women, in New York City in 1911. He proved the mask’s merits at the risk of his own death during his heroic rescue of trapped tunnel workers following a tragic methane explosion beneath Lake Erie in 1916. Allied troops also relied on gas masks built on Morgan’s patented technology to protect them from chemical attacks during the trench warfare of World War I. Modern versions of the Morgan breathing device are standard equipment today for firefighters around the world. CLICK HERE TO SUBSCRIBE TO FOX NATION »He was an endless inventor. He was an extremely creative and amazing man, » said John Stark Bellamy II, author of the 1995 book « They Died Crawling: And Other Tales of Cleveland Woe, » which chronicles Morgan’s daring exploits in what’s known as the Lake Erie crib disaster. Twenty-one tunnel workers and would-be rescuers were killed in the methane gas explosion five miles off the coast of Cleveland, according to the Encyclopedia of Cleveland History. Morgan, his brother Frank and two other men donned his new gas masks, entered the tunnel and pulled out two survivors and four bodies.Yet The New York Times and other national newspapers of the day failed to mention Morgan in their recap of the disaster, with racism cited by historians today as the reason for the oversight. « There’s no question that he was a hero but that he was treated shabbily, too, » Bellamy said. Morgan is today being recognized for his creative genius, personal bravery and clear position at the sharp end of the fight for equality. The short movie, « The Inventor, » is made the film festival circuit in 2022. It was honored for « Best Historic Short » at the Manhattan Film Festival that year. The scientific community recently acknowledged that a Black American, and not a White European, invented the gas mask that Allied troops carried into battle to protect against chemical attacks in World War I. « By 1917, a year after the Lake Erie disaster, this type of hood was standard equipment (along with British and French designs) for the U.S. Army during World War I, » Smithsonian reported in 2022. MEET THE AMERICAN WHO INVENTED THE ELECTRIC GUITAR, INSPIRED ROCK ‘N’ ROLL »The Smithsonian museum has conceded that a Black American invented the life-saving gas mask, not the Scottish physician [John Scott Haldane] who has been widely credited, » The Times of London noted in response. « Garrett Morgan saw problems in the world and he found solutions, » filmmaker Cabral Clements told Fox News Digital. The co-producer of « The Inventor » said he first learned of Morgan’s creative genius while working on a third-grade research project. « His story stuck with me, » he said.Morgan was born on March 4, 1877, in Paris, Kentucky, with a uniquely American multi-racial background. The family believes that John Hunt Morgan, a Confederate general known for his daring raids into Union territory — and for his dalliances with women he owned as property — is Morgan’s grandfather. The inventor’s family is seeking DNA confirmation of their relationship with the general, said Sandra Morgan, Garrett’s granddaughter, to Fox News Digital. « We’re anxious to know, » said Morgan, a Kent State University business development executive. Gen. Morgan’s attack on Salenville, Ohio, in late July 1863 — just weeks after the rebel defeat at Gettysburg, Pa. — marked the northernmost advance of Confederate forces during the Civil War. He was killed in battle in Greenville, Tenn., on Sept. 4, 1864. Sydney Morgan — the general’s son and father of the inventor — was freed after the cavalry officer’s death.MEET THE AMERICAN WHO WROTE ‘THE BATTLE HYMN OF THE REPUBLIC’Sydney married another former slave, Eliza Reed, sometime after the war. They were both of mixed-race descent (including Native American for Reed), according to the most current family knowledge, said Sandra Morgan. « They were not farmhands. They lived in the city, » meaning Lexington, Ky., she said. « They were urbanites. They had exposure to many different things. Sydney couldn’t read or write, I don’t believe. But he had city smarts. »Garrett A. Morgan, the seventh of their 11 children, carried those smarts with him when he ventured north across the Ohio River, making his way to Cleveland around 1895.He proved adept at business with an incredible mechanical aptitude, despite possessing only a fifth- or sixth-grade level education. He landed a job in the garment industry, inventing among other things a zigzag stitch pattern for sewing machines. He soon stopped working for others, opening his own sewing store and then a hair products company, G.A. Morgan Hair Refining Co. It stayed in business until 1976, the family said. He also became active in civic affairs, especially those championing African-American success. He helped found the Cleveland Association of Colored Men in 1908 and the all-Black Wakeman Country Club, on land he purchased in 1923, according to the Encyclopedia of Cleveland History. He married Mary, a first-generation American whose parents immigrated from Bohemia, now part of the Czech Republic. The mixed-race family felt the sting of public prejudice: Mary was ex-communicated from the Catholic Church by the local bishop for marrying a Black man, Sandra Morgan said. But the couple forged a formidable partnership. The couple owned a hugely successful ladies’ clothing store, which employed up to 32 people, according to family history. MEET THE AMERICAN WHO INVENTED THE MOTOR HOMEAfter reading about the horror of the 1911 Triangle Shirtwaist fire, Garrett Morgan set about creating a mask to help rescue workers breath safely amid toxic conditions. Many of the 146 who were killed in the New York City fire died of smoke inhalation. He filed a patent for his « breathing device » in 1912, and received approval in 1914 He struggled to sell the mask, however. He even enlisted a White friend to lead sales calls, hoping the color of his skin would make it an easier sell. The business was never as successful as it could have been, Sandra Morgan told Fox News Digital.War in Europe exploded in August 1914, just four months after Morgan received his patent. He lent his technology to the U.S. military and its allies to combat the horrific gas attacks of World War I. AMERICAN SOLDIERS KILLED IN WWI REMEMBERED FOREVER IN NYC ALEHOUSE »With a few slight modifications [the masks] will withstand chlorine, phosgene and mustard gas, » Garrett Morgan — in the dramatized story of his life portrayed in the new film « The Inventors » — tells his brother Frank. The movie is « a reminder that Black American contributions to this country have been hugely consequential, » co-producer Philip Musey told Fox News Digital. The knock on the door came before sunrise on the morning of July 25, 1916. There was a terrible explosion the night before at the Lake Erie crib, an offshore base where tunnel workers lived while digging beneath the lake bed to bring fresh water into Cleveland. The blast at 9:22 p.m. « was so powerful that it smashed and hurled the heavy concrete tunnel sections around, killing and burying the crew in a fiery holocaust of flame and dirt, » Bellamy wrote in his book, « They Died Crawling. »In all, 21 men — both tunnel workers and rescuers — were killed. Authorities were desperate to find a way to get into the tunnel safely and search for survivors and bodies. One official recalled that Cleveland inventor Morgan had been shopping a breathing device around to fire departments. »He rustled his brother Frank, » Sandra Morgan told Smithsonian. « They threw a bunch of gas masks in the car — remember, they were selling these things — and in their pajamas, drove down to the lakefront. »The Morgan brothers plus two volunteers donned the masks and descended into the hole. »Goodbye, » Cleveland Mayor Harry Davis said to Morgan — « so doubtful was he of the helmet’s effectiveness, » as Bellamy noted in his book. But the mask was brilliantly effective. The national media soaked up the story — yet they failed to mention the real hero of the Lake Erie crib disaster. COAST GUARD AT LAKE ERIE CONDUCTS MASS RESCUE OF STRANDED SNOWMOBILERS »The mayor purposely left Morgan out of the story of the rescue because he was Black. » That’s the belief of Scott O’Con of Tours of Cleveland, who includes tales of Morgan’s achievements in his guided trips around the city. »It took years for the city to actually recognize Morgan for his heroic efforts that day, » O’Con told Fox News Digital. Four rescue workers received medals from the Carnegie Hero Fund for their efforts that day, said O’Con. Morgan was not among them. « He risked his life to save those men and he suffered ill effects from exposure to methane, » said Bellamy. « The helmets were primitive, he suffered damaged lungs — and he couldn’t get any compensation for it. »Morgan the man may have been furious at this — but Morgan the inventor was undeterred by the slight. Morgan filed another life-saving patent, for a three-stage traffic signal with a « warning » position, after witnessing a horrifying traffic accident in a Cleveland intersection. At the time, traffic signals held only « stop » or « go » positions, creating dangerous conditions for anyone behind the wheel or, even worse, on foot.He promoted it as a safety device for children and pedestrians. This time he cashed in nicely, selling the patent to General Electric in 1924 for $40,000 — nearly $700,000 in 2022 dollars. For more Lifestyle articles, visit www.foxnews.com/lifestyle »On the basis of his safety inventions, I imagine that Garrett A. Morgan was a kind, thoughtful and community-minded individual, » author Monica Kulling told Fox News Digital. Her 2016 children’s book, « To the Rescue! Garrett Morgan Underground, » chronicles the daring achievement of the Cleveland inventor. »He was a mechanical genius with an entrepreneurial streak. »After decades of battling poor health, glaucoma and then near-total blindness in the last years of his life, Garrett A. Morgan died on July 27, 1963. He was 86 years old. He’s buried today alongside wife Mary beneath a simple gravestone at Lake View Cemetery in Cleveland. « By his deeds he shall be remembered, » says the inscription beneath their names. For more Lifestyle articles, visit www.foxnews.com/lifestyle Those deeds live on at almost every traffic light around the world and every time a firefighter enters a burning a building. In addition, his gas mask is featured at the Museum of Firefighting Hall of Flame in Phoenix, Ariz. « If I could meet Garrett Morgan, I would give him a big kiss and hug, » John W. Norman III, a retired FDNY deputy assistant chief, told Smithsonian. « It’s the greatest invention that a firefighter could ever have. »Morgan was inducted into the National Inventors Hall of Fame in 2005. Benches clear between Yankees and Orioles after batter gets hit in head with 96 mph pitch

[ad_1]

An old AL East rivalry was reheated Friday night as the benches cleared between the Yankees and Orioles in the bottom of the ninth.Yankees closer Clay Holmes hit Heston Kjerstad in the head with a 96.8 mph sinker, which didn’t do much sinking, on an 0-2 pitch in the bottom of the ninth inning.Kjerstad was quickly tended to by trainers and his manager, Brandon Hyde, but, given the frightening situation, Hyde was red-hot and had some words with Holmes and catcher Austin Wells.CLICK HERE FOR MORE SPORTS COVERAGE ON FOXNEWS.COMThird baseman Oswaldo Cabrera and an umpire held Holmes back before anything could happen, but only temporarily. After Kjerstad reached first (he was pinch-ran for), Hyde walked back toward the field and was yelling in the direction of the Yankees dugout — it appeared he was yelling at third base coach Luis Rojas, who was snapping right back.Wells did his best to hold Hyde back, but he couldn’t do much, as both teams met right near home plate, and the bullpens came sprinting from the outfield. There was some light pushing and shoving that ensued, but no player was ejected (other than Hyde), and no punches were thrown — so, it wasn’t quite their brawl from 1998.COMEDIAN NIKKI GLASER POKES FUN AT SCOTTIE SCHEFFLER’S ARREST, SHOHEI OHTANI’S INTERPRETER AT ESPYSYankees manager Aaron Boone said he understood why Hyde was upset, noting that Hyde should have his players’ backs — Hyde, though, said the Yankees bench was « waving » and « yelling » at him, which he « didn’t appreciate. »Hyde said he « heard some stuff » when he was walking back to the dugout, which led to his reaction. He added Hjerstad was getting tested. « We’re hoping for the best, » he said. This has been brewing for quite a bit, though — the Yankees have hit Orioles batters 10 times this season, while the O’s have done so just three times. The Yankees, who own MLB’s worst record since June 13, held on to the much-needed 4-1 win, cutting their deficit for the division lead to just two games — the O’s are now 3-5 against the Yanks this season.Reigning Cy Young Award winner Gerrit Cole had his best start of this season as he tossed six strong innings of one-run, five-hit, seven-strikeout ball. The division race seems to be between these two teams for the rest of the season, and judging by Friday night, it’s going to be fun the rest of the way. They’ll be back in action at 4 p.m. on Saturday.Follow Fox News Digital’s sports coverage on X, and subscribe to the Fox News Sports Huddle newsletter.

Richard Simmons celebrates 76th birthday, says he’s ‘grateful’ to be ‘alive for another day’ after skin cancer

[ad_1]

Richard Simmons shared that he is « grateful » to be « alive » as he celebrated his 76th birthday Friday. In a rare interview, the fitness guru, who stepped away from the spotlight 10 years ago, told People magazine he will blow out a candle to mark the occasion. « But the candle will probably be on a zucchini, » Simmons said. « You know, I’m a vegetarian. » When asked how he feels about turning 76, Simmons exclaimed, « I feel good! »RICHARD SIMMONS REVEALS SKIN CANCER DIAGNOSIS »I am grateful that I’m here, that I am alive for another day, » he continued. « I’ll spend my birthday doing what I do every day, which is to help people. »  Simmons already has big plans for the year ahead. His representative told Fox News Digital the « Sweatin’ to the Oldies » instructor is at work on his Broadway musical and has aligned with acclaimed producer and composer Patrick Leonard, who previously worked with music icons Madonna, Elton John, Bon Jovi and Michael Jackson, to compose the music. The former « The Richard Simmons Show » host’s birthday celebration comes months after he had a health scare. Though Simmons has mostly retreated from the public eye, he stays in touch with his fans on social media and shares updates about his life. In March, Simmons revealed to his followers he had been diagnosed with skin cancer. He took to Facebook to detail the moment he found out about the diagnosis and the procedure he underwent in an attempt to remove the cancer cells. « Mirror mirror on the wall what’s that blemish which is so small? There was this strange looking bump under my right eye. I had a tube of neosporin which I would put on in the morning and the evening…. it was still there. It was time to call my dermatologist, » Simmons wrote in the lengthy post. « I sat in his chair and he looked at it through a magnifying mirror. He told me he would have to scrape it and put it under the microscope. Now I am getting a little bit nervous. »He comes back about 20 minutes later and says the C word. You have cancer, » he continued. « I asked him what kind of cancer and he said. Basel Cell Carcinoma. I told him to stop calling me dirty names. He laughed. »Simmons said he was advised to seek treatment from a « cancer doctor » as soon as possible. The former fitness coach paid a visit to Dr. Ralph A. Massey and underwent a procedure in which the doctor had to « burn » his skin with a small instrument to « remove the cancer cells. » »As he started burning my skin a tear dropped down my cheek, » Simmons wrote. « You can’t cry during this and he wiped my tear. The burning really hurt my skin. It lasted about 30 minutes. »Simmons said he was told to return in « an hour and a half » to see if the cancer had been removed successfully. « After driving around the city, I went back to some sad news, » he concluded. « I didn’t get it all out. He burned my face again. This time was worse than before… It was deeper. I did not cry this time but I did grit my teeth. ‘Come back in another hour and a half.’… .to be continued… »The following day, Simmons shared a positive update with his fans on Facebook. « Well the third time was a charm, » Simmons wrote, adding that his doctor told him, « We got all the cancer cells out. »CLICK HERE TO SIGN UP FOR THE ENTERTAINMENT NEWSLETTERHe explained that his doctor then stitched up his face, noting « it took about 45 Minutes and I was done. » »Because of his fine work I don’t have a scar, » Simmons added of his doctor.Simmons concluded his post by imploring his fans to be proactive about their health. »I know some of you reading this have had cancer or have known someone in your life who has had cancer. Promise me you will see your doctor and get a complete check up, » he wrote.Simmons revealed his diagnosis one day after he worried his fans when he shared a cryptic message on Facebook saying, « I have some news to tell you. Please don’t be sad. I am…. dying. » He added, « Oh I can see your faces now. The truth is we all are dying. Every day we live we are getting closer to our death. »Simmons continued his post by asking a question. « Why am I telling you this? Because I want you to enjoy your life to the fullest every single day. Get up in the morning and look at the sky… count your blessings and enjoy. »He also shared his recommendations for leading a healthy lifestyle, which included the advice to « once in a while, have dessert. » »There is something else very important that you must do, » he added. « Tell the ones that you love that you love them. Hug those people and children who you really care for. A big hug really goes a long way. »During his interview with People magazine, Simmons said he planned to allow himself a small dessert in honor of his birthday. »OK, fine. Knicks star Jalen Brunson accepts ‘unprecedented’ team-friendly deal that cost him over $100 million: report

[ad_1]

Jalen Brunson: team guy.The New York Knicks superstar guard is eligible to sign a deal worth $269 million next year -—but he’s putting winning above all. After cementing himself as likely the Knicks’ most beloved player since the 1990s, Brunson has decided to sign a year earlier, forfeiting loads of money.CLICK HERE FOR MORE SPORTS COVERAGE ON FOXNEWS.COMBrunson and the Knicks have reportedly agreed to a four-year extension worth $156.5 million, saving the team, and costing him, well over $100 million in the process in what ESPN called an « unprecedented financial concession. »Of course, there is risk involved, but if Brunson, just 27, continues to play at his current level, he’s going to earn that deal, and Knicks fans would revolt if the team ever dared not to keep him around.According to ESPN, citing Brunson’s agent Sam Rose, Brunson is forfeiting $37.1 million over the next three years (the extension will kick in beginning with the 2025-26 season).FORMER NBA PLAYER CALLS BRONNY JAMES GETTING DRAFTED AN ‘ABUSE OF POWER’ BY FATHER LEBRONESPN highilghted that Brunson took note of other sports superstars like former NFL great Tom Brady, current Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes and New York Yankees legend Derek Jeter — players who risked their own financial stability for the sake of their team’s potential success. But the good news for Brunson, aside from the Knicks being able to add more talent, is that this will make him eligible for a whopping $418 million deal in 2029.Brunson led New York to the second seed in the Eastern Conference last season, and had the injury bug not bit the team (including Brunson), they very likely would have been in the conference finals against the Boston Celtics.Brunson became a fan favorite in his first season in the Big Apple (his father, Rick, is an assistant coach), but he took a huge step forward this past season, posting career-bests of 28.7 points and 6.7 assists per game, en route to his first All-Star nod and a fifth-place finish in the MVP vote.Brunson is one of several « Nova Knicks, » alongside Josh Hart, Donte DiVincenzo and newcomer Mikal Bridges, all of whom played on the 2016 and 2018 Villanova national championship teams. The Knicks last made the NBA Finals in 1999, and last won a championship in 1973, but things are looking up for them, and Brunson’s deal only helps them.Follow Fox News Digital’s sports coverage on X, and subscribe to the Fox News Sports Huddle newsletter.

Jill Biden’s ex-press secretary rips White House narrative after Biden’s NATO presser: ‘Alternate universe’

[ad_1]

First lady Jill Biden’s press secretary blasted the White House communications team’s narrative on Thursday, saying they live in an « alternate universe » after a senior official praised President Biden’s performance at a NATO press conference. »There are two different versions of reality in my party right now, Michael LaRosa, who served as first lady Jill Biden’s press secretary, wrote on X on Thursday night in response to a post from Republican communicator Sarah Matthews criticizing the White House’s Senior Deputy Press Secretary, Andrew Bates. »The below is an alternate universe that MOST of us Dems are NOT actually living in. Being coherent in his FIRST ‘big boy press conference’ of 2024 is not exactly the bar most of us are looking for…. but clearly it’s the bar for Biden set by his own staff … and that is pretty ‘f—ing’ terrifying. »Matthews had criticized Bates for a post on X he made following Biden’s highly anticipated NATO press conference on Thursday night where the senior staffer said, « To answer the question on everyone’s minds: No, Joe Biden does not have a doctorate in foreign affairs. He’s just that f—ing good. »BIDEN SAYS ‘ANYWAY’ AT LEAST 9 TIMES WHILE TRAILING OFF IN PRESS CONFERENCE »1) Literally no one is asking that question right now, » Matthews wrote on X. « 2) It’s beneath the office to say « f—ing » from your official White House account. Do better. » »Everyone evaluated POTUS’s performance based on how they wanted to feel or how they already felt about the situation, » LaRosa told Fox News Digital. TOP DEMOCRAT ON HOUSE INTEL COMMITTEE CALLS ON BIDEN TO SUSPEND CAMPAIGN AFTER NATO PRESS CONFERENCE »Andrew’s exuberance, which is what Sarah was responding to, is an example of the division within the Democratic Party right now, unfortunately. But that’s Andrew’s job — and he’s very good at it. His whole purpose is to drink the kool-aid surrounding the boss and make sure everyone else is gulping down too. If I were Biden or any other lawmaker or candidate, there’s no one I’d rather have watching my back than Andrew Bates. »  « But for those of us in the party and outside the White House now, it’s our responsibility to decipher the rhetoric from the reality. The reality is, and I said this to Jesse Watters before the debate, that no one has ever questioned or doubted Joe Biden’s command of complex and nuanced domestic or foreign policy, » Larosa continued. « He can run circles around the media, his opponents, or members of Congress on substance or his record. That’s not what the noise or conversation is about. The bar the President hasn’t been able to clear and the reason why Democrats in Congress are anxious is because they feel he hasn’t met or cleared the bar for matters of presentation, agility, and sharpness. »LaRosa said he fears « that sometimes people around him unintentionally lower the bar for the President. » »He’s a former Chair of Senate Foreign relations, a former Vice President, and current President who has met with leaders all over the globe, » LaRosa said. « He’s been negotiating with the Russians since he was in his mid-thirties. We’re not giving him enough credit when we create standards that are frankly beneath him. It’s a distraction from the reality of the challenge in front of us, as Democrats, and in moments of political crisis, there need to be folks on the outside who can put the kool-aid aside for a bit and drink some water. » The X post from Bates also sparked strong criticism from conservatives on social media. »Dude he confused Harris and Trump right after he mixed up Zelensky and Putin, » Abigail Jackson, Communications Director for GOP Sen. Josh Hawley, posted on X referencing a Biden gaffe shortly before the press conference. »Literally no one is asking that question right now, » conservative communicator Steve Guest posted on X. »The question on my mind is what’s wrong with these people, » journalist Josh Barro posted on X.Fox News Digital reached out to the White House for comment.Biden, who is facing increased calls from elected officials within his own party to drop out of the race due to concerns about his age, was widely criticized by Republicans over his NATO press conference performance. However, longtime GOP strategist Mike Biundo, a former Trump adviser, told Fox News Digital that he believed « it’s a 100% win-win » for Republicans and the Trump campaign. »It appears Biden did enough to convince his apologists that he should remain on the ballot, but he also reinforced what the American people know. Their lives are being hurt by his weakness and failure on a daily basis, » a Trump campaign official, who asked for anonymity to speak more freely, told Fox News Digital after Thursday night’s press conference.Several Democrats and progressives defended Biden’s performance along with Bates. »Tonight Joe Biden offered a lengthy, detailed dive on the major national security issues he’s juggling combined with a comfortable but forceful defense of his view of where this race stands, » Kate Bedingfield, a former communications director for Biden, posted on X. « 50 minutes of Qs. He needed to show up big tonight and he did. » »This is a very strong performance, » Joel Rubin, a former State Department official during the Obama administration, posted on X. « Quite frankly. ⁦@POTUS⁩ is putting on a master class in how foreign policy and domestic policy intersect, explaining how crucial American global leadership is to our people here at home. Well done, Mr. President. »Fox News Digital’s Paul Steinhauser contributed to this report.

Biden campaign manager admits ‘bad f—ing weeks’ in candid call with staff: Report

[ad_1]

The Biden campaign team is attempting to rally staffers as President Biden faces continued calls to withdraw from the race following his disastrous debate performance. « We had two very, very, very hard weeks, very bad weeks, » Biden campaign chair Jen O’Malley Dillon told staff on a call, as reported by Axios. « I told you I’d level with you, they’ve been bad f—ing weeks, » she said.Reports of both White House and campaign staffers feeling demoralized and « miserable » about Biden’s candidacy have grown dramatically in recent weeks. JEN PSAKI SAYS KAMALA HARRIS IS BEST ALTERNATIVE TO BIDEN BUT WORRIES AMERICA TOO ‘SEXIST AND RACIST' »This two-week window has really sucked, and it is hard, there is no doubt about it. And it’s hard for all of us because we are doing the job, » she told staffers. « If we can get through these two weeks that we’re living through, we can get through anything, » she said. Staffers were also told to ignore « crazy f—ing gossip land world, » as media speculation over replacing Biden as the Democratic presidential candidate increases.O’Malley Dillon also told staffers that Biden political advisor Mike Donilon is saying in meetings that « he’s never seen a presidential candidate have more thrown at him than Joe Biden and do you know what Joe Biden does every day? He gets up and he keeps fighting. »The campaign chair responded to concerns over Biden’s poll numbers in the call with staffers. Some post-debate polls conducted in battleground states have found that Trump is now leading Biden. In Wisconsin, a poll conducted by Republican pollsters Fabrizio Ward and Democratic pollsters Impact Research on behalf of AARP found that Trump tops Biden 50%-45% among likely voters in Wisconsin. »[W]e definitely saw a little bit of slippage, but nothing significant, nothing massive, no bottom falling out, » O’Malley Dillon said of Biden’s polling numbers after the debate. DEMS RUSH TO DEFEND BIDEN AMID HIGH STAKES PRESS CONFERENCE: ‘VERY STRONG PERFORMANCE' »What you are seeing in the public polling in the last couple days is what we are seeing in our polls, » O’Malley Dillon said. « What we are seeing is that this is still a margin of error race. »The Biden campaign did not immediately respond to a request for comment from Fox News Digital. Fox News’ Paul Steinhauser contributed to this report.

Blue city hires equity trainer who calls US military ‘home of White supremacy’ as part of ‘culture change’

[ad_1]

FIRST ON FOX – A city in New Mexico is currently processing a « culture change » in government where critical race theory permeates, with the help of a far-left equity consultant.Shortly after he was elected in 2017, Albuquerque Democratic Mayor Tim Keller promised to overhaul the government with antiracist ideals. « From Day One of our administration, we knew that inequity was growing and that we would have to change the culture, » he said. « When has learning and growing ever been comfortable? » Keller established the Office of Equity and Inclusion (OEI) in March 2018 to implement his vision of racial equity. The office created trainings on critical race theory and made some employees feel uncomfortable along the way, the OEI director said in the 2021 report. One of the equity consultants hired included Zamil Salhab from RACED Consulting, who has far-left views, including that the U.S. military is the « home of White supremacy. » Salhab is a « genderqueer first generation American and Post 9-11 veteran, » according to the RACED Consulting website.SPACE FORCE COMMANDER WHO SAYS HE LOST PENSION FOR CRITICIZING DEI IN MILITARY OPENS UP ON BEING ‘BETRAYED' »Being first generation and being black, being queer. And then to go into what I believe is the home of White supremacy and patriarchy, the military. Little did I realize like what damage… I was doing to myself and what I’d have to go through in order to deconstruct myself after getting out of the service, » Salhab said in June 2020. « Because society not only teaches that Black bodies are less than… And so and then to be a woman. So to deal with those different intersectionalities of the White supremacy construct, it was, you know, for a period of time I thought I was nuts, I thought I was crazy. » The city confirmed, « The Office of Equity and Inclusion contracted with RACED Consulting LLC. » NPR CORRESPONDENT CALLS FOR DESTRUCTION OF POLICE, BLASTS ‘RACIST’ AMERICANS FOR CALLING 911RACED Consulting has expertise on the topic of « white fragility, » according to its website. « We will explore white fragility and its impact on building racially inclusive practices… We share personal experiences with white fragility and its effect on you and those around you, » the website states. Another area of expertise is « De-Centering Whiteness, » « Interrupting White Supremacy, » and « Interrupting Whiteness. » Despite all the CRT training that low-level employees attended, RACED Consulting wrote in the city’s 2021 report that higher ups were largely absent from those trainings. « The said process of deconstructing white supremacy behaviors is both external and internal. Visibly absent from the 2021 RACED sessions were department directors and city leadership, » the consulting section in the report stated. »Investment into the Culture Change Initiative must manifest through all levels of Albuquerque city government and be more expansive than just monetary; it must consider the intangible costs and benefits of building true relationships throughout the city and the wider community to foster a deep and sustainable Culture Change, » it concluded in the city’s official report. And, according to the diversity, equity and inclusion head, some city employees are uncomfortable with Keller’s racial agenda. « We also see a small but vocal resistance to addressing racism, » Michelle Melendez, director of the Office of Equity and Inclusion, said about the internal dynamics. « Systemic racism is one of the root causes of some of our most serious challenges, and addressing it within municipal government will make our city better for the long-term. That’s culture change. » « There is a better understanding and openness to conversations about anti-racism and social justice topics, » another section of the report said. As part of their effort to change the culture, every department was given a DEI staffer who would report on and give an « equity assessment. » Those « liaisons » went through over 10 months of training in order to be prepared for their missions. « We all realized in our first year of working with equity liaisons that shifting the culture of institutions is extremely challenging, » the report said. « Each of the liaisons who were able to complete the 10 months of training and technical assistance was able to introduce and move forward equity work in their respective departments. »SCHOOL DISTRICT DEI TRAINER SAYS AMERICAN FLAG BECOMING ‘HATE’ SYMBOL, EMPLOYEES RESISTING CRT SHOULD BE FIREDSome of the departments that were included in the equity liaison were animal welfare, environmental health, transit and the police department. Each of those departments developed their own « racial equity action plan[s] of that Department’s practices, policies, expenditures, and distribution of resources. » Before Keller was elected in 2017, employees « were reluctant to talk openly about race, racism, » according to OEI Director Melendez.CLICK HERE TO GET THE FOX NEWS APP »The Culture Change Initiative was instrumental in building the City’s capacity to work toward equitable outcomes, » the report stated. RACED Consulting and the City of Albuquerque didn’t immediately respond for comment.

CNN Dem focus group gives Biden positive reviews after press conference: ‘I think he should stay in’

[ad_1]

A CNN focus group of battleground state Democratic voters offered positive reviews of President Biden following his solo press conference Thursday.CNN’s Gary Tuchman spoke with a group of seven women at a senior leisure center in Kalamazoo, Michigan, describing them as « liking » Biden and non-Trump voters. When asked, five of them thought the press conference went « better than expected » while two thought it was what they expected. None thought he did worse than expected.  One woman who was « undecided » about whether Biden should stay in the race told Tuchman she was « relieved » by Biden’s performance. »I think he should stay in, » she said, shifting her position. »I think he’s the logical choice, » said a second woman, who was also « undecided » about Biden staying in the race, but threw her support behind Biden.BIDEN’S HIGH-STAKES SOLO PRESS CONFERENCE SLAMMED FROM THE RIGHT AS ‘ANOTHER DISASTER’A third voter, who before the press conference thought Biden should « pass the torch, » still felt that way after, telling Tuchman, « I think he conveyed more defensiveness versus confidence. And I think we are craving to be able to be confident about the candidate that we carry into the November election. »A fourth voter said « all [her] confidence » in Biden has held steady, saying « everybody has a bad day and I could see that he was sick, » admitting following through with the debate might have been a « bad choice. » »At the heart of it, he’s a strong guy, » the voter told Tuchman. BIDEN STAGES HOUR-LONG PRESS CONFERENCE, TAKES MULTIPLE QUESTIONS IN BID TO ALLAY FEARS OVER MENTAL DECLINEA fifth voter agreed with that sentiment, adding, « Joe Biden is very caring about people. He’s very knowledgeable and experienced. And he’s not just out for himself, that he really cares about the country. » »There’s no chance that you would be more confident with Kamala Harris or your governor here Whitmer in the state of Michigan? » Tuchman asked. »Right. Yeah, » the voter responded. « I think Joe Biden did an excellent job… I’ve always been confident. »NBC’S CHUCK TODD SAYS BIDEN’S ‘ENTIRE NARRATIVE’ WILL ERODE IF HE STAYS IN THE RACE: ‘HIS AMBITION COMES FIRST’There were several moments in the presser when Biden raised eyebrows, including when he referred to Vice President Kamala Harris as « Vice President Trump » and said, « I’m following the advice of my commander-in-chief, » when he meant to say the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff. Shortly before the press conference, he mistakenly called Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy « President Putin. »The press conference came as turmoil continues within the Democratic Party over whether Biden should keep running or step aside following his disastrous debate performance last month.

Trump requests NY judge overturn guilty verdict, indictment after SCOTUS immunity ruling

[ad_1]

Former President Trump on Thursday evening formally requested Judge Merchan overturn his guilty verdict in New York v. Trump after the Supreme Court ruled that presidents have immunity for official acts. Trump was found guilty in an unprecedented criminal trial last month on all counts of falsifying business records in the first degree, following a six-week trial stemming from Bragg’s investigation. The formal motion was filed Thursday evening. NEW YORK V. TRUMP: MERCHAN DELAYS SENTENCING HEARING UNTIL SEPTEMBER »The Court should dismiss the indictment and vacate the jury’s verdicts based on violations of the Presidential immunity doctrine and the Supremacy Clause, » Trump defense attorney Todd Blanche wrote in the motion. Trump signaled last week that he would move to overturn his criminal conviction in the Manhattan case after the U.S. Supreme Court ruled that a former president has substantial immunity for official acts committed while in office. In the formal motion Thursday evening, Blanche pointed to the Supreme Court’s immunity decision, and argued that certain evidence of « official acts » should not have been admitted during the trial. Specifically, Blanche argued that testimony from former White House Communications Director Hope Hicks; former Special Assistant to the President Madeleine Westerhout; testimony regarding The Special Counsel’s Office and Congressional Investigations and the pardon power; testimony regarding President Trump’s response to FEC Inquiries; his presidential Twitter posts and other related testimony was impermissably admitted during trial. Trump attorneys also pointed to Trump’s disclosures to the Office of Government Ethics as president. Blanche said that « official-acts evidence » that Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg presented to the grand jury « contravened the holding in Trump because Presidents ‘cannot be indicted based on conduct for which they are immune from prosecution,' » the motion reads. « The Presidential immunity doctrine recognized in Trump pertains to all ‘criminal proceedings,’ including grand jury proceedings when a prosecutor ‘seeks to charge’ a former President using evidence of official acts. »Blanche argued that Bragg « violated the Presidential immunity doctrine by using similar official-acts evidence in the grand jury proceedings that gave rise to the politically motivated charges in this case. » « Because an Indictment so tainted cannot stand, the charges must be dismissed, » Blanche argued. Blanche also explained that the Supreme Court’s decision does not allow for an « overwhelming evidence » or « harmless error » exception to « the profound institutional interests at stake. » « Indeed, Trump contemplates a pretrial interlocutory appeal of an adverse Presidential immunity determination precisely because even the prospect of such a trial is constitutionally unacceptable, » Blanche wrote. « It necessarily follows that the results of a trial conducted in breach of these holdings is invalid. » Trump was set to be sentenced Thursday, just days before the Republican National Convention where he is set to be formally nominated the 2024 GOP presidential nominee. But Merchan, last week, granted Trump’s request to delay that sentencing. Merchan moved the sentencing hearing to September 18, « if such is still necessary. » The Supreme Court’s 6-3 decision on presidential immunity came from a question that stemmed from charges brought against Trump in a separate, federal case brought by special counsel Jack Smith related to the events of the Jan. 6 U.S. Capitol breach and any alleged efforts to overturn the results of the 2020 election.Trump pleaded not guilty to all charges in that case.

White House ‘cheap fake’ narrative crumbles after Clooney exposes Biden’s condition at Hollywood fundraiser

[ad_1]

The narrative aggressively pushed by the Biden campaign and White House in recent weeks about President Biden, which included trying to quash concerns about his mental fitness by calling videos of him struggling « cheap fakes, » took a significant hit on Wednesday after a top Hollywood actor and former Obama aide spoke out.On Wednesday, actor George Clooney called on Biden to leave the 2024 race, citing what he witnessed at a Hollywood fundraiser in late June where the president was criticized for seemingly needing to be led off the stage by former President Obama. »It’s devastating to say it, but the Joe Biden I was with three weeks ago at the fund-raiser was not the Joe ‘big F-ing deal’ Biden of 2010. He wasn’t even the Joe Biden of 2020. He was the same man we all witnessed at the debate, » Clooney, a longtime friend of Obama, wrote. That conclusion was backed by former Obama speechwriter Jon Favreau, who attended the Hollywood fundraiser.WHAT IS VP HARRIS’ ROLE IN 25TH AMENDMENT AND HOW WOULD IT WORK TO REMOVE BIDEN?: EXPERTS »It was not surprising to any of us who were at the fundraiser, » said Favreau, a member of the group of staffers often referred to as the « Obama bros » during their tenure in the White House. « I was there. Clooney was exactly right, and every single person I talked to at the fundraiser thought the same thing, except for the people working for Joe Biden, or at least they didn’t say that. »JAMES CARVILLE DECLARES THAT BIDEN STILL RUNNING IS AN ‘IDIOTIC CHOICE’ FOR THE COUNTRYFavreau’s blunt comments come just a day after he joined two of his fellow advisers and members of the « Obama bros » in dedicating the majority of their latest « Pod Save America » episode to ganging up on Biden following his poor performance in the first presidential debate and in a subsequent interview.Immediately following the June 18 fundraiser where videos circulated of Biden being led off the stage by Obama, the Democratic Party along with the media launched a coordinated effort to dispel any questions about Biden’s age. »CLAIM: Biden froze onstage during his fundraiser in Los Angeles on Saturday night and had to be led away by Obama, » the Associated Press wrote. « THE FACTS: Biden paused amid cheers and applause as he exited the stage with his predecessor following an interview moderated by late-night host Kimmel. »White House spokesperson Andrew Bates described the moment as « the President taking in an applauding crowd for a few seconds. »Biden campaign spokesperson James Singer attributed the negative characterizations as a distraction tactic from those who « are so scared of losing to Joe Biden, they’ll make anything up to distract from the fact that their candidate for president, Donald Trump, has been convicted of 34 felonies, found liable for sexual assault, committed financial fraud, and only cares about himself. »In response to a question at a press briefing the following Monday about videos that have been edited to make Biden appear frail or confused, White House press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre called such footage « cheap fakes video » that are « done in bad faith. » She added that they demonstrate « everything that we need to know about how desperate, how desperate Republicans are here. »A source who helped organize, and attended, the fundraiser told the AP that there was nothing noteworthy about this moment and that Obama wanted to be « chummy » by walking offstage with Biden.Lewis Kay, a spokesperson for Jimmy Kimmel, who was also at the event, called the claims spreading online « nonsense. » »Attendees in the front were shouting at him, and President Biden was trying to hear them, » he wrote in an email to the AP. « It’s as simple as that. »Fox News Digital reached out to the White House and Biden campaign for comment but did not receive a response.Fox News Digital’s Brandon Gillespie and the Associated Press contributed to this report

Michael Cohen goes to the Supreme Court against Trump

[ad_1]

Does the president of the United States have the power to throw you in prison? That is the test, says Michael Cohen, of the petition submitted to the Supreme Court on Wednesday. « The Constitution is the bedrock of our democratic republic and is what makes America the beacon of the world, » Cohen says. »To have a President weaponize the DOJ…is how autocracies are created. »HOUSE JUDICIARY GOP CALLS ON APPELLATE COURTS TO ‘REVERSE THE VERDICT’ IN NY V. TRUMP IN NEW STAFF REPORTCohen, former President Trump’s controversial long-time lawyer and fixer, is asking the court to hear his claim that he was sent back behind bars, shackled and placed in solitary confinement on the alleged orders of Trump and Justice Department officials in July 2020 in retaliation for his writing his first tell all book, « Revenge: How Donald Trump Weaponized The US Department of Justice Against His Critics. » »Presidents are not kings, » says the petition. « This case represents the principle that presidents and their subordinates can lock away critics of the executive without consequence. That cannot be the law in the country the Founders thought they created when they threw off the yoke of the monarch. »In 2020, U.S. Federal Court Judge Alvin K. Hellerstein found that the Trump administration violated Cohen’s First Amendment rights when it sent him back behind bars after he was released to home confinement. »The purpose of transferring Mr. Cohen from furlough and home confinement to jail is retaliatory, » the judge said during a hearing on Cohen’s reimprisonment. »It’s retaliatory because of his desire to exercise his First Amendment rights to publish a book and to discuss anything about the book or anything else he wants on social media and with others. »A spokesman for the Bureau of Prisons denied that Cohen was retaliated against, calling the allegation « patently false. »However, Cohen’s lawyer says the case goes far beyond the impact on his client, but on the legal protections for all American citizens against any constitutional violations by the executive branch.NEW YORK V. TRUMP: MERCHAN DELAYS SENTENCING HEARING UNTIL SEPTEMBER »This case presents an important and unprecedented question – what remedy will this country provide a citizen who was incarcerated because of their criticism of government officials. No one, especially not the President, can use the prison system to silence their critics, » says Cohen’s attorney, Jon-Michael Dougherty. »As it stands now, there is no consequence for officials who lock away their critics. That cannot be America. It must not be America. There is a clear and present danger to Americans’ rights. If speech can lead to a prison cell, many will choose to be silent. »Two courts ruled against Cohen’s initial claim, based on a narrow reading of a Supreme Court ruling called « Bivens, » which provides citizens the limited legal right to sue federal officials who violate their constitutional rights. The 2nd U.S. Court of Appeals ruled that the law does not seem to provide damages and cites the fact that Cohen was ultimately released from prison to home confinement was his legal relief. However, Cohen’s petition points out that the courts have not ruled on remedies or methods needed to prevent such violations in the future and is asking the Supreme Court to decide just that. « This case happens to involve Michael Cohen and Donald Trump, but it is not about Michael Cohen and Donald Trump. This case is not about politics. It is about freedom, » Dougherty told Fox News. However, Trump lawyer Alina Habba, who successfully argued two of the previous cases, says Cohen will not get anywhere with this latest effort. »Michael Cohen’s suit against the President was doomed from its very inception. Setting aside the fact that his allegations are meritless, the Supreme Court has already held, as recently as 2022, that Bivens suits in this context are not viable, » Habba told Fox News.’WARPED AND SENSELESS’ GAG ORDER RULING UNDERSCORES ‘UNFAIR TREATMENT’ OF TRUMP, SAYS LEGAL ANALYSTDuring his current campaign, former President Trump suggested he could prosecute his political opponents, establish « televised military tribunals, » and has named a variety of officials and prosecutors who have brought cases against him who should be « put in jail. » « I would have every right to go after them, » the former President told Fox News last month, but added he would not actually do that.Cohen claims that Trump would, in fact, seek revenge, despite Trump’s and the government’s previous denials. »Be warned…Donald will do it again and again if given the chance! »Cohen’s petition echoes that prediction. »A former President and his subordinates conspired to use the federal prison system to silence one of the President’s most vociferous and prominent public critics by revoking his approved release from prison to home confinement when the critic did not agree to waive his rights to speech, » it says. »The possibility that the federal government has the power to retaliate against critics with imprisonment, without any consequence for or check against the officials engaged in such retaliation, is a chilling prospect. This Court should not turn its eyes away from this profound breach of the contract between a government of limited power and free citizenry. »US V TRUMP: DEFENSE TO CLAIM DUE PROCESS VIOLATIONS MADE IN FBI’S MAR-A-LAGO RAIDDougherty says the petition is in front of Justice Sonia Sotomayor. In order for Cohen’s petition to be considered by the full court, four of the nine justices must agree to hear it during the court’s next term in the fall.Habba believes that the court will likely decline to hear Cohen’s plea, and if it does, will find that the Justices’ recent ruling on establishing immunity for « official acts » of a president will apply to Cohen’s case. « In the unlikely event that the Supreme Court chooses to entertain Mr. Cohen’s petition, and in the even more unlikely scenario that it finds any merit to his Bivens claim, his suit still fails under the doctrine of presidential immunity. If this case proceeds forward, I look forward to a decisive victory, » she told Fox News.In response to the petition, Trump spokesman Steven Cheung said in part that « Michael Cohen is a disgruntled disgrace and a total loser. » »Nothing Mr. Cohen says can be trusted and now that his 15 minutes of fame have expired, he is more desperate than ever. »Cohen was the star witness in the recent trial in Manhattan that convicted Trump of 34 felonies.Cohen says, « No President should ever be permitted to weaponized the Department of Justice through a willing and complicit attorney general to have a citizen unconstitutionally remanded to prison (solitary confinement) because they refused to waive their first amendment rights. It’s a case ripe for SCOTUS. »Dougherty says the Court has a duty to accept the case because of the unique and compelling Constitutional arguments it presents. »The Supreme Court has said that the kind of lawsuit Mr. Cohen has brought can be entertained in only ‘the most unusual circumstances.’ What could be more unusual than a claim, supported by the findings of a federal judge, that the President and his subordinates locked away a critic for refusing to be silent? This is that case. »

Obama was aware of Clooney’s brutal NY Times essay ahead of time, didn’t object: Report

[ad_1]

Former President Obama knew of George Clooney’s New York Times guest essay calling for President Biden to drop out of the race but didn’t object to it, according to a new report.Clooney, a major Democratic donor who hosted a lavish fundraiser for Biden just weeks ago, published a devastating essay in the New York Times on Wednesday, demanding Biden step aside because of growing concerns over his mental acuity that were heightened after his disastrous presidential debate. Politico reports that Clooney reached out to Obama beforehand to make him aware of the story to come, but Obama didn’t try to stop him. »While Obama did not encourage or advise Clooney to say what he said, he also didn’t object to it, we’re told from people familiar with their exchange. The lack of pushback is an eye-popping revelation given that the former president was one of the first big voices defending Biden following his abysmal debate performance (while many of his former aides have been some of the incumbent’s biggest critics), » the outlet reported.‘OBAMA BRO’ CONFIRMS CLAIMS IN CLOONEY’S DAMAGING OP-ED ON BIDEN’S MENTAL FITNESSFox News Digital reached out to Obama’s office but did not immediately hear back.In Clooney’s bombshell piece, he claims that he personally witnessed signs of the president’s decline at the Hollywood fundraiser he hosted with Obama in June. »It’s devastating to say it, but the Joe Biden I was with three weeks ago at the fund-raiser was not the Joe ‘big F-ing deal’ Biden of 2010. He wasn’t even the Joe Biden of 2020. He was the same man we all witnessed at the debate, » Clooney wrote. « Was he tired? Yes. A cold? Maybe. But our party leaders need to stop telling us that 51 million people didn’t see what we just saw. We’re all so terrified by the prospect of a second Trump term that we’ve opted to ignore every warning sign, » he continued.‘OBAMA BROS’ GANG UP ON BIDEN AS LONGSTANDING RUMORS OF TENSION LINGER: ‘HARD TO WATCH’The actor joined a growing list of Hollywood elites and megadonors who’ve called for Biden’s ouster following the debate, where his halting, frail performance alarmed supporters. Members of Biden’s party, political allies and liberal media figures have also pressured the president to drop out of the race, warning he cannot beat former President Trump.Despite mounting calls to step aside, Biden has insisted to supporters and media outlets this week that he will stay in the race.

Lithuanian foreign minister warns Putin watching NATO for weakness following children’s hospital bombing

[ad_1]

FIRST ON FOX – The deadly attack on a children’s hospital in Ukraine this week was a test for the NATO alliance, warned Lithuanian Foreign Minister Gabrielius Landsbergis as world leaders gathered in Washington, D.C. »Attacking a children’s hospital in Kyiv during the week of the NATO summit here in Washington clearly sends a political message. He expects us to discuss, and most likely, not to find a way how to address this, » Landsbergis told Fox News Digital from the Lithuanian Embassy in Wasington, D.C.The foreign minister said Russian President Vladimir Putin is banking on NATO not to respond due to its concerns that doing so will prompt further escalation between the West and Russia. »That’s enough to send a message to Ukrainians that, look, your friends in the West cannot do much for you. Even your children, those who are suffering from cancer in a hospital, cannot be protected, » Landsbergis said.CHINA, BELARUS START JOINT MILITARY DRILLS NEAR POLISH BORDERThe foreign minister urged his colleagues in the NATO alliance to use this week to provide Ukraine with not only the military assistance it needs in the war, but to prove to Putin that the alliance is not backing down. The foreign minister’s comments come after Russia struck a children’s hospital in Kyiv on Monday, killing at least two and injuring some 50 people, though search and rescue efforts remain ongoing. The images of sick children, some with hair missing from chemotherapy and radiation treatments, being held by caregivers with blood running down their faces and bodies, showed again the gruesome extent Putin will go to achieve his war aims. In a statement to the U.N. Security Council Tuesday, Ambassador Sergiy Kyslytsya said that evidence suggested the children’s hospital was deliberately struck by a Kh-101 cruise missile while children were receiving treatment, including three open-heart surgeries that were underway at the time of the attack.  « There has to be a price on Putin’s escalation, » Landsbergis said. « You cannot just play on defense and expect the other side to somehow stop. Putin is clearly not planning to stop. » »He just continues his escalation and that means that we have to meet him, or assist Ukrainians to meet him, » he added. NATO SAFEGUARDS SUPPORT FOR UKRAINE AMID SHAKY BIDEN RE-ELECTION BIDThe U.S. has implemented bans on all U.S.-made missiles being used to strike targets in Russia, though an exception was granted for military targets near the Kharkiv border. Landsbergis and NATO Secretary-General Jens Stoltenberg have urged all nations to abandon strike-based stipulations as the capability would enable Kyiv to hit airfields, arms depots and vessels off the coast of Ukraine. The White House on Monday said that despite the repeated deadly attacks on Ukrainian civilians, there would be no changes to the U.S.’s policy, prompting a sense of growing frustration with Washington ahead of the summit. A source involved with the NATO talks confirmed that several allies, including the U.S., are unwilling to change their position when it comes to countering Putin, despite repeated urging from Ukraine and fellow NATO nations. « This could definitely be an opportunity to push back, if the U.S. will allow additional targets to be targeted inside Russia. But so far, I don’t see any signs of any movement in that direction, » the source confirmed Tuesday. « Most likely we will just eat whatever is served by Russia. »Washington’s refusal to heighten its response to Putin’s aggression also means that Ukraine is unlikely to see a concrete path to membership, despite reports suggesting that NATO’s communiqué will use targeted language like « irreversible » to describe Kyiv’s ability to join. »The sense from the U.S. is that there is a 100 percent understanding that any real move closer to NATO for Ukraine is an escalation, » the source involved with the NATO talks confirmed.

Pressure on Biden builds as George Clooney says he’s unfit and politicians privately agree

[ad_1]

George Clooney has bailed on Joe Biden. That’s right, the superstar actor who just helped the president raise zillions of dollars, wants him out of the race. You may not care what an entertainer who’s not in the business of politics has to say, but his reasoning is what matters here: « It’s devastating to say it, but the Joe Biden I was with three weeks ago at the fundraiser was not the Joe ‘big F-ing deal’ Biden of 2010, » Clooney wrote in a New York Times op-ed yesterday. « He wasn’t even the Joe Biden of 2020. He was the same man we all witnessed at the debate. »This is from a supporter, a lifelong Democrat declaring his love for Biden, who’s observed the man close up. »We are not going to win in November with this president. On top of that, we won’t win the House, and we’re going to lose the Senate. This isn’t only my opinion; this is the opinion of every senator and Congress member and governor that I’ve spoken with in private. Every single one, irrespective of what he or she is saying publicly. »TRUMP WANTS BIDEN, HITS KAMALA, AS WHITE HOUSE ADMITS VISITS BY PARKINSON’S DOCTORThat’s the weirdness of the political limbo we’re dwelling in. I’ve been wondering whether Biden would be pushed aside if every Democratic lawmaker could secretly vote on denying him the nomination, but we don’t have a parliamentary system, where a vote of no confidence carries the day. Biden has made clear he’s not stepping down, no matter how many pundits and politicians demand it, and no one can force him to do it.But what if the noise level and the pressure gets to be too great?Nancy Pelosi was on « Morning Joe » yesterday – the same show where Biden vowed to run against the « elites » – and was asked if she wanted him to stay in the race. »It’s up to the president to decide if he is going to run, » the former speaker said. « We’re all encouraging him to make that decision, because time is running short. »Not exactly a ringing endorsement. More like a bat signal.FIRST DEMOCRAT SENATOR CALLS FOR PRESIDENT BIDEN TO DROP OUT ‘FOR THE GOOD OF THE COUNTRY’Michael Bennet became the first Senate Democrat to say Biden will lose in November and Republicans will take over both chambers.I’ve interviewed Clooney a couple of times. He’s a smart guy, the son of a journalist. He may have cleared the way for others to speak out.On « The View » yesterday, Michael Douglas, also professing his admiration for Biden, said: « I don’t worry necessarily today or tomorrow, but a year down the line, I worry…I’m deeply, deeply concerned. »Clooney’s defection is more important than similar pleas from Stephen Colbert and Jon Stewart, both anti-Trumpers. That’s because he was actually part of the campaign – and the comparison to the abysmal debate was devastating. But it’s not like Biden is going to bow out as long as Clooney keeps inviting him to Lake Como. He’s wanted to be president his entire adult life. I covered his first campaign in 1987, after which he had emergency brain surgery for an aneurysm. Nobody can force him to give up the White House and Air Force One.HOLLYWOOD ICON AND BIDEN SUPPORTER MICHAEL DOUGLAS CHANGES HIS TUNE ON PRESIDENTThere’s something that happens to a candidate who becomes president after being repeatedly written off. He comes to believe he has a superpower, a faith in his own abilities, despite the critics and naysayers. The same thing happened to Donald Trump when few expected him to win in 2016.Biden has been slow off the mark. He just announced he’ll sit down with NBC anchor Lester Holt next Monday. The president should have done a half-dozen interviews by now, not just calling Joe Scarborough and Mika Brzezinski to complain about the elites.Instead, he built up the George Stephanopoulos sitdown but turned in a tentative and low-energy performance. Biden appeared to be in denial, saying he didn’t believe the polls showing Trump widening his lead since the CNN debate. But tongues are being loosened. On his podcast yesterday, NBC’s Chuck Todd said a « pretty senior » Cabinet secretary told him two years ago, « He can’t run again like this. » »It’s the classic open secret, conversation, right? » Todd said. « It’s the story everybody knows and everybody was afraid to talk about. »Well, « everybody » didn’t know. And you can’t betray an off-the-record conversation. CLICK HERE TO GET THE FOX NEWS APPMost journalists had no access to Biden or his inner circle, but watched the obvious decline on television. Then the debate blew everything up.The New York Times says the president may be trying to run out the clock, stalling until it’s too late for others to do anything to open the door for Kamala Harris, Gavin Newsom, Gretchen Whitmer or any other Democrat. The only thing that could prompt Biden to reconsider, in my view, is if Hakeem Jeffries, Jim Clyburn and Pelosi march up to the White House and tell him the party wants him to step aside. And even then, the president who won 99% of the delegates may dig in his heels.

GREG GUTFELD: Who knows, maybe they’ll do the idiotic thing and keep Joe in

[ad_1]

So, the last couple of weeks have been a joy watching a hoax implode before our country’s eyes. It’s hilarious, but hardly unbelievable. And some might say our response has been mean, but that’s like a victim of a crime being called cruel for expressing satisfaction over justice being served. The really cruel ones are those dragging a demented, frail man around the world for power, and the only thing that will stop them is if Biden drops dead. Does a party and a leader deserve sympathy when they’ve been lying and insulting us for four years, all to cover up an incapacitated man? No way. I’m like an elephant, I don’t forget, and I use my tail to swat away mosquitoes. And yet, it’s the critics who are at fault. JOY REID: They seem laser focused on Biden’s age and acuity, with no headlines on the fact that Donald Trump has been showing serious signs of cognitive decline for years.LAWRENCE O’DONNELL: The grotesque behavioral overreaction by the White House press corps today was on display on video. JOY BEHAR: I’m a little tired of all the Biden bashing that’s going on. I’m pissed off at it, frankly.Uh oh, Joy’s pissed. You know what that means for people who work at ‘The View’? Do not wear red. She might charge. But if only they felt that way when Trump was in the crosshairs, they had no problem saying Russian hookers peed on him. It’s not fair to him or the Russian hookers. But now Joe’s infirmity is confirmed. The brain-dead cat is out of the bag, and they want to blame us for warning them ahead of time when the cat was still in the bag or the basement. But now the media is backtracking. Is it because Joe Biden has somehow convinced them he’s A-OK? No. He’s convinced them that this is a murder suicide situation and the Dems are the hostage negotiators backing off, talking nice, hoping that the guy doesn’t take everyone with them. At some point, though, they’re going to act like this is just another story. But it’s not. This story can’t just go away and it’s their fault. So they’ll have to force it off the screen, which means another hoax will appear. A foreign policy thread, a story about Trump’s finances or sex life. Maybe aliens will invade. Not illegals, but space. Tip to space aliens– stay away from Texas or Florida– they’ll bus you to Chicago. And they’ll eat you alive. Who knows?Who knows? Maybe Taylor Swift will dump Travis Kelce for a real athlete. But like Chris Christie’s stretch pants, these things have a way of becoming uncontrollable. It’s obvious that, like Joe’s bowels, the media has lost control. So this is where you come in. You got to watch out for the media’s fake off ramps created to distract or change narratives. They’re like a dangerous, cornered animal. Like when I found Kat rooting through the trash at Panda Express. Remember what you’re dealing with is something cunning and remorseless. Democrats. If you think Trump can win, remember two things: one, the red wave, which shows how Republicans could easily *****up a sure thing. But also, Republicans see politics as a part-time job. Democrats live and breathe politics. For Dems, it’s the only job they have. So they’re already scheming, and they rely on one sentence to justify all the dirty tricks. But Trump is a monster. It’s the singular reason that justifies the hoaxes, the lawfare, changes in voting, and so on. But that fell apart with Biden. If, in fact, Trump is an existential threat, why run a guy who’s being held together by compression socks and Polident? That question, it needs to be asked again and again. Then there’s this question.PETER DOOCY: He also said he’s sharpest before 8 p.m. So, say that the Pentagon at some point picks up an incoming nuke. It’s 11 p.m. Who do you call? The first lady?KARINE JEAN-PIERRE: He has a team that lets them know of any news that is pertinent and important to the American people. He has someone, or that is decided, obviously, with his National Security Council. And who gets to tell him that news. This is no gotcha question. It’s the only question when a president is no longer capable, then who’s doing the job? Especially when there’s a terror attack, a Cuban missile crisis, or the ice cream machines go down again at McDonald’s. If it’s not Biden, then it’s not legal. And what of Trump? Well, he can do something else. Meet with the victims of hoaxes. Have a conversation with four Democrats who still believe in the fine people hoax, drinking bleach hoax, whatever. Roll the clips unedited to see them in context. Let them pull on his face to learn it’s not Hitler wearing a Trump mask. Think of it as deprogramming. In person, Trump’s funny, sharp and charming. He could talk a G-string off Larry Kudlow. That’s hard to do. And unlike Joe, he remembers names, doesn’t drool, and won’t send his wife in to save him. The result? The hoax victims realized the monster they hated so much paid them much more respect than the party ever did to them. And that’s something that Dems don’t want America to see even more than a President Trump. And another way to help? Kick back, just kick back. Let the hoax machine eat itself. Who knows, maybe they’ll do the idiotic thing and keep Joe in. They’ll say even if the president’s incapacitated, there’s always his team that lied for years that he’s incapacitated. So you’re in good hands with Captain Hook.

House committee subpoenas top White House aides over concerns about Biden’s mental fitness

[ad_1]

The GOP-led House Oversight Committee has subpoenaed three senior White House aides, demanding that they sit for depositions concerning President Biden’s mental state.Fox News confirmed that the subpoena includes first lady Jill Biden’s top aide, Anthony Bernal, deputy chief of staff Annie Tomasini and senior adviser Ashley Williams. In a press release, House Oversight Committee Chair James Comer, R-Ky., called for accountability within the White House. »The White House has shielded three key aides from testifying about President Biden’s mishandling of classified documents, and now we’ve learned through reporting these same aides are also seeking to cover up President Biden’s declining cognitive state inside the White House, » Comer said. »President Biden is clearly unfit for office, yet his staff are trying to hide the truth from the American people, » he said.BIDEN DONORS CALLING ON HIM TO STEP ASIDE ARE ‘SAYING WHAT WE ALREADY KNEW:’ MARY KATHARINE HAMThe GOP-led committee argued that the top Biden aides were « running interference » for Biden to shield the 81-year-old president from facing scrutiny.According to one former Biden staffer, Axios first reported, Bernal, Tomasini and Williams have created « a protective bubble around » Biden and that he is « staffed so closely that he’s lost all independence. »The subpoenas, which come following Biden’s disastrous debate performance two weeks ago, hope to identify the scope of the three aides’ job responsibilities while serving under the administration. BIDEN REMAINS DEFIANT AS HE SETS PRIME-TIME INTERVIEW WITH NBC’S LESTER HOLTThe three subpoenas, which were sent Wednesday, voice the committee’s concerns that top aides are running the country while the president is unable to do so. »To be clear, the American people did not elect Ms. Williams or any White House staffer to do President Biden’s job for him, and the Committee seeks Ms. Williams testimony regarding the matters identified above, » Williams’ subpoena reads, in part. The committee also penned their allegations that Biden’s top staff, including Bernal, Tomasini and Williams, were involved in the scandal of the president’s alleged mishandling of classified files. The Oversight Committee said five total White House employees and a Department of Defense employee were involved in « coordinating the organizing, moving, and removing of boxes that were later found to contain classified materials. »Special Counsel Robert Hur, who had investigated Biden’s improper retention of classified records since last year, concluded his investigation in February.BLUE CITY VOTERS WEIGH IN ON BIDEN’S PROMISE TO STAY IN PRESIDENTIAL RACEHur did not recommend criminal charges against Biden for his alleged mishandling of classified documents. »We conclude that no criminal charges are warranted in this matter, » the report states. « We would reach the same conclusion even if the Department of Justice policy did not foreclose criminal charges against a sitting president. »The special counsel also described Biden as « a sympathetic, well-meaning, elderly man with a poor memory. » In a statement to Fox News, Ian Sams, the White House spokesperson for oversight and investigations, called the subpoenas a « baseless political stunt. » »Like everything Representative Comer has done over the past year, these subpoenas are a baseless political stunt intended for him to get media attention instead of engaging in legitimate oversight, » Sams said. »His partisan attacks on the President have been discredited, and now he continues to debase the House by weaponizing subpoenas to get headlines instead of seeking information through the proper constitutional process, » he added.Fox News Digital has reached out to the White House and Comer for comment.
