CNN anchor: Did Harris ‘wait too long’ to schedule her first interview?

[ad_1]

A CNN host is wondering if Vice President Kamala Harris’ strategy of avoiding the press is starting to backfire even as the Democratic nominee has scheduled her first interview with the cable network.CNN anchor Kasie Hunt centered a panel discussion around that topic Wednesday morning, asking her guests if Harris had waited so long to schedule her first interview that it is now impacting her campaign negatively. »Did they wait too long to do this? Because this has become – turned into kind of a thing. It has snowballed, » Hunt said to the panel after playing clips of Republican vice presidential candidate JD Vance hammering Harris over avoiding the press.BIDEN-HARRIS ADMIN REFUSES TO REVEAL NATIONALITIES OF TERROR WATCHLIST MIGRANTS NABBED AT BORDERThe vice president has not held an unscripted press conference or done a sit-down interview in 38 days, though Harris and her running mate Gov. Tim Walz, D-Minn., have scheduled a joint CNN interview with Dana Bash that will air on the network Thursday evening.Still, former Tim Scott presidential campaign senior adviser Matt Gorman told Hunt he believes Harris forgoing interviews since the start of her campaign in late July, after President Biden announced he was exiting the race, has allowed some of the Democratic ticket’s problems to « fester for weeks » because they haven’t tried to clear them up in media appearances. »Look, I am very interested to see what she says on a host of topics, and same with Walz, » Gorman said, adding, « And we‘ve talked about some of the things, especially on the Walz and with his military service and circumstances that he‘s talked about that haven‘t matched with the facts – a lot of that has been left to fester for now weeks because it wasn‘t addressed when it first got out there. »The former Scott adviser mentioned that Americans are going to be curious to see how Harris addresses the « flip-flops » she has had on major policy points since her last run for president in the 2020 cycle.FEDERAL JUDGE BLOCKS BIDEN ADMIN MOVE TO GIVE LEGAL STATUS TO ILLEGAL IMMIGRANT SPOUSES OF US CITIZENSHunt invited DNC senior adviser Brad Woodhouse to comment on the fact that interviews have « not always been » Harris’ « strongest forum necessarily. » Woodhouse defended Harris, stating, « Well look, she did say she would do an interview by the end of the month, she is doing an interview by the end of the month. And by the way, a joint interview with your vice-presidential pick is pretty standard, pretty standard fare. »He then attacked Vance, saying, « But I just loved those clips of JD Vance and the Republicans just hammering and hammering, hammering that she needs to do an interview. It just shows how desperate they are. And you know what, I want them to do more interviews. And I want Donald Trump to do more interviews. »Hunt pushed back: « Well, they do a lot of interviews. »Woodhouse continued, saying, « Right? And how do they work out for him? Donald Trump did a 64-minute – what was it? – a 64-minute press conference and he lied 162 times. He looked unhinged, he looked off his game. » »So, they should do more interviews and they should do more press conferences, » he added about the GOP ticket.

Israel’s new ambassador issues stark warning to UN over Hezbollah, Iran inaction

[ad_1]

FIRST ON FOX: The new Israeli ambassador to the United Nations has issued a stern warning to the international body amid escalating tensions with Hezbollah and concerns that Iran could be close to obtaining a nuclear weapon. Ambassador Danny Danon told Fox News Digital that Security Council Resolution 1701 « said very clearly that there would be no military force in southern Lebanon besides the Lebanese military, but look what happened since 2006. » »Hezbollah took over, they controlled the region, and they made this area a hub for terrorism with tens of thousands of rockets that, unfortunately, in the last few months, we felt the capabilities, » he argued. « I think if the U.N. is not capable of implementing the resolution, we will have to implement the resolution and push Hezbollah away from our community in the north. »Part of tackling the various groups in the Middle East – such as Hamas in Gaza, Hezbollah in Lebanon or the Houthis in Yemen – requires dealing with Iran. US TOP GENERAL SAYS TENSIONS IN MIDDLE EAST HAVE ‘SOMEWHAT’ EASED MID NEW IRANIAN THREATS »I think it’s about time that not only Israel will deal with Iran, but the Western democracies will realize that they have to put pressure on Iran, they have to be active in order to prevent Iran from achieving nuclear capabilities, » he said. « We thought on April 14 when they sent hundreds of projectiles into Israel and their intentions … imagine they had nuclear capabilities, » Danon noted. « We will not wait for that day. We will not allow them to achieve nuclear capabilities. »Danon replaced Gilad Erdan, who in May decided to end his tenure as the permanent representative to the U.N. Danon previously held the role from 2015 until 2020, after which he took the role of Minister of Science, Technology and Space. ISRAEL RESCUES HOSTAGE AFTER 325 DAYS IN HAMAS CAPTIVITYErdan served in the U.N. during the Oct. 7 attack and roughly the first nine months of Israel’s incursion into the Gaza Strip as the Israeli Defense Forces hunted down Hamas. Erdan rose to international prominence for his fiery rhetoric, his bold speeches – including symbolically shredding the U.N. charter – and labeling the United Nations as a broken institution. Just last week, he declared that « the U.N. building in Jerusalem needs to be closed and erased from the face of the Earth. »Danon, on the other hand, believes that the U.N. can be saved – but it requires the U.S. to step in and make demands to seek reform. « Let’s look at the facts, » Israeli Ambassador Danny Danon told Fox News Digital. « The facts are that the UN was not able to condemn  … October 7th. I cannot accept that. » YEMEN’S HOUTHIS SEIZED UN RIGHTS OFFICE IN SANAA, UN OFFICIAL SAYS »Not the Security Council, nor the General Assembly, not even a small show condemnation: Zero. Nothing. Silence. That’s unacceptable, and it showed that the double standards of the U.N. when it comes to Israel, » Danon argued. « I think we should reform the U.N., and I expect the U.S. to lead the action to change the U.N., » he added. « I think the U.N. is an important organization, and we have to reform it and make sure that the U.N. will focus on the real objects of promoting security and peace and not becoming a platform for hate and incitement by radical countries. » « I think that the major country – the strongest country, that allocates most of their budget should come with demands and look at the performance of the U.N., the resolution of the U.N. and ask for accountability and make sure that the focus will be on the right places, » Danon argued. « It’s not happening today. » The U.S. contributed more than $18 billion to the United Nations in 2022, accounting for one-third of funding for the body’s collective budget, according to the Council on Foreign Relations.

Migrant crisis roils Boston area as school stands firm on contentious residency policy

[ad_1]

A Boston-area school district has decided against adjusting its residency policy for matriculating students after migrant advocacy groups demanded change, with an administrator saying claims made by the critics « are just not true. »The Lawyers for Civil Rights and Massachusetts Advocates for Children sent a letter to school administrators in Saugus, a town 10 miles north of Boston, alleging that the requirement to fill out the town census and other « overly-stringent residency or proof-of-identity requirements » violate the state and federal constitution. Two advocacy groups have recently pressured Saugus public schools to revise their policy, following a surge of migrants into Massachusetts that has strained state resources. The advocacy groups said the policy went into effect prior to the 2023-2024 school year and stipulated that pupils must be « legal residents whose actual residence is in Saugus » and that guardians must identify themselves with passports or other government photo IDs.The policy had been implemented only days after Democrat Gov. Maura Healey instituted a state of emergency in response to the migrant influx.RAMASWAMY MOCKS MASS GOVERNOR’S ILLEGAL IMMIGRANT STANCE AFTER FLIP: ‘NOW ACCEPTABLE TO COMPLAIN’The Bay State is unique in its status as a « right-to-shelter » state, which guarantees families without homes will have shelter. And in the time since Healey called for a state of emergency, Saugus schools enrolled 23 students from the shelter system. At a recent board meeting, however, school administrators said they won’t change their policy, with the body’s chair, Vincent Serino, saying in part that the news and « stories about migrants » are false, according to the Boston Herald.Fox News Digital reached out to Serino and other administrators for comment but did not receive responses. That has led to state-imposed shelter limits and calls for repeal of the Gov. Michael Dukakis-era law in response to claims the law is a major reason the crisis is so serious there. The school policy also notes its stipulations exempt students covered under federal homeless assistance legislation spearheaded by former Rep. Stewart McKinney, R-Conn., in 1987. »No child who actually resides in Saugus will be denied access to school because of his or her immigration status or the immigration status of [their parents or guardians], » the policy concludes in that regard. However, the advocacy groups argued in their demand letter that the policy, particularly the census requirement, exceeds scholastic authority and « disproportionately harms immigrant families. »They also said « anti-immigrant sentiments » have led to noncitizens being less likely to participate in the census due to « stigma » or « fear of immigration consequences. »CLICK HERE TO GET THE FOX NEWS APPFox News Digital reached out to representatives of both groups but did not receive responses. Fox News Digital also reached out to town officials and state Sen. Brendan Crighton, D-Essex, for comment.Elsewhere in the state, town officials in Norfolk reportedly briefly stipulated that migrant children living in a former state prison-turned-shelter would not be enrolled in local schools. The decision was later reversed, according to the Boston Globe.Healey appeared to blame the federal government for the crisis, saying Congress has « repeatedly failed to act » after instituting a 90-day shelter limit. »This new length-of-stay policy will strengthen those efforts to connect families with the resources and services they need to move into more stable housing and contribute to our workforce, » Healey said, according to Politico.

Matt Araiza officially makes Chiefs roster after rape lawsuit upended time with Bills

[ad_1]

Matt Araiza will start as the Kansas City Chiefs’ punter this season, two years after the Buffalo Bills cut him amid allegations of rape in a lawsuit. The rape lawsuit was dropped, and Araiza signed with the Chiefs in February. He battled in camp with Ryan Rhekow for the starting punter job, and by the end of the preseason, he was the team’s full-time punter.Araiza officially made the cut as the Chiefs trimmed down their roster to 53 men on Tuesday.CLICK HERE FOR MORE SPORTS COVERAGE ON FOXNEWS.COMChiefs special teams coach Dave Toub explained last month why Araiza was set to become the starting punter. »Both of those guys did a great job. Ryan Rehkow did a great job, the kid from BYU we had. It was a tough decision, » Toub said, via Chiefs Wire. « It wasn’t really cut and dry, but in the end, Matt was a little more consistent day to day. Being a lefty punter, a little bit older, I think we made that choice to go with it. I didn’t want to go into this camp with two guys. »Toub suggested that Araiza may provide a different look for punt returners given that he is a left.Chiefs head coach Andy Reid also spoke briefly about Araiza on Aug. 5.NFC SOUTH BREAKDOWN: HOW WILL THE DIVISION SHAKE OUT IN NFL SEASON? »I like him, » Reid said. « Just keep working – consistency always as you go. You can see it – I mean he’s booming the thing. »Araiza also spoke at the time about whether he thought he would be able to punt again. »There were times that I didn’t and there were times that I did, » he said. « Honestly it kept going back and forth in my mind. Yeah, there was a lot of moments where I thought it was over. I’m incredibly grateful to be here. »Araiza will likely get his first opportunity to punt next week when the Chiefs open their season against the Baltimore Ravens. He said he knew how special the moment will be. »It’s going to be pretty surreal. Definitely going to take it all in, » he said. « Like I said, just grateful for the opportunity and grateful to get back to that moment because that is my favorite thing is being out there in a pressure situation, in a game, with a rush, pads on (and) everything. I think that’s when I’m at my best so I can’t wait to get back out there. »The lawsuit against Araiza was dropped in December. Known as the « Punt God » at San Diego State, the Bills selected him in the sixth round of the 2022 draft. However, he was released before the start of the season after the lawsuit came out.He was the 2021 Ray Guy Award winner – given to the best college punter – and was an All-American that same year.Follow Fox News Digital’s sports coverage on X, and subscribe to the Fox News Sports Huddle newsletter.

Former Indiana sheriff pleads guilty to charges of spending funds on travel, gifts, cars

[ad_1]

A former Indiana sheriff pleaded guilty, as part of a deal, to more than two dozen charges stemming from allegations he spent millions of dollars in local funds on travel, gifts, cars and other personal expenses.Former Clark County Sheriff Jamey Noel, 53, pleaded guilty Monday to 27 charges, including theft, official misconduct, tax evasion and money laundering, the Associated Press reported. He would serve 15 years in prison and pay more than $3 million in restitution under his plea deal.Under the agreement, four counts of ghost employment alleging that Noel had his employees perform personal chores for him at his property would be dropped.Special Judge Larry Medlock said Monday he was not against the plea agreement, but needed more time to hear from victims of Noel’s alleged crimes before accepting the deal.MULTIPLE PEOPLE ELECTROCUTED IN ‘FREAK ACCIDENT’ WHILE ENJOYING SWIM IN POOL: POLICE »I want to hear from taxpayers that have been aggrieved by the actions of this individual, » Medlock said.Noel remains in the Scott County Jail on a $1.5 million bond.He served two consecutive terms as Clark County’s elected Republican sheriff before leaving office in 2022. Noel also previously served as chairman of the Clark County Republican Party. Most of the charges Noel pleaded guilty to are in connection with his time as president and CEO of the Utica Township Volunteer Firefighters Association, which also does business as New Chapel Fire and EMS. The company landed several public contracts for fire and EMS service in Clark and Floyd counties under Noel. His employment was terminated by the association’s board in January.YOUNG INDIANA MOM OF 3 ALLEGEDLY KILLED BY EX-BOYFRIEND WHILE FILMING TIKTOK WITH FRIEND: REPORTNoel and his family allegedly spent millions of dollars on personal purchases, including travel, gifts, clothing and vehicles, according to the News and Tribune. Medlock said in June that Noel had used the firefighter association’s funds as a « personal piggy bank. »The Indiana State Police executed dozens of searches and uncovered payments for classic cars, college tuition and an aircraft.Noel’s wife, Misty Noel, and daughter, Kasey Noel, face separate charges of theft and tax evasion. Alex Berenson to amend suit against Biden, Pfizer after Zuckerberg admitted government pushed censorship

[ad_1]

Journalist Alex Berenson said Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg’s admission that his company, Facebook, was pressured by the Biden-Harris administration to censor Americans, particularly regarding COVID-19 content, will affect his legal battle with President Biden. Berenson has long alleged that members of the White House and Pfizer executives colluded to silence his COVID vaccine skepticism, and is suing Biden, White House officials and Pfizer honchos accusing them of violating First Amendment rights by pushing for his removal from Twitter after he raised concerns about the shots. Zuckerberg made the stunning admission in a letter to House Judiciary Committee Chairman Jim Jordan, R-Ohio, more than a year after providing the committee with thousands of documents as part of its investigation into content moderation on online platforms. »If you look at the work of Jim Jordan’s committee, you can see the pressure. It was not one phone call or one email. There was significant pressure put on Facebook and Twitter, and to a lesser extent Amazon and YouTube, for months and months by the Biden administration, » Berenson told Fox News Digital. META CEO ADMITS BIDEN-HARRIS ADMIN PRESSURED COMPANY TO CENSOR AMERICANSBerenson said it’s « nice » to see Zuckerberg admit it. »It’s significant for my lawsuit, there is no question about that. We are going to quote that letter, as we amend Berenson v. Biden, which we’re doing, » he said. The former New York Times reporter said the amended lawsuit is coming « very soon, » and will include information that will shock Americans. Berenson said he has new information about what led to him being banned from Twitter in 2021 at the height of the vaccine debate, before Elon Musk bought it and rebranded the company as X. Twitter restored his account in July 2022 after he took legal action. The company settled and even admitted Berenson’s « tweets should not have led to suspension. » »I was banned and my account was wiped out, which is a profound form of censorship in my book, » Berenson said. »We now have new information about exactly how that happened and exactly what senior executives at Twitter thought about it, » he continued. « Anyone who is looking at it fairly, it’s going to be stunning. It’s going to be disturbing. » META CEO ZUCKERBERG ADMITS HE WAS PART OF THE BIDEN-HARRIS CENSORSHIP SCHEME. YOU’VE BEEN WARNED, AMERICABerenson’s suit named Biden, White House advisers Andrew Slavitt and Robert Flaherty, Surgeon General Dr. Vivek Murthy, Pfizer board member and ex-Trump FDA commissioner Dr. Scott Gottlieb and Pfizer CEO Albert Bourla as defendants. Berenson said it will be clear that government officials and senior Pfizer executives worked together to censor his skepticism. « I don’t think anybody’s going to be able to look at it and not see that, » he said. Berenson believes Musk’s staunch belief in free speech made X the most « important place to get news » in America and influenced Zuckerberg to come clean. « Should American voters trust Facebook? I think you can trust it more today than yesterday, » Berenson said. « I think Elon has pushed Zuckerberg to define himself better on this, you know, and arguably that is almost as important as anything Elon has done on X itself, because Facebook is a bigger platform, » he added. « To have Zuckerberg saying, ‘We care about free speech, and we don’t like this kind of pressure,’ I think is a really important step and I do think Musk deserves some credit for that. » ALEX BERENSON SAYS LAWSUIT AGAINST BIDEN, PFIZER COULD REVEAL INTERNAL COMMUNICATIONS ABOUT COVID VACCINEIn Monday’s letter, Zuckerberg also wrote about throttling the Hunter Biden laptop story. He wrote that the FBI warned his company about « a potential Russian disinformation operation » regarding the Biden family and Burisma, leading up to the 2020 election.Zuckerberg said the infamous New York Post story that was published days before the 2020 election reported on corruption allegations involving Biden’s family, so they had fact-checkers review the story and temporarily demote it while waiting for a reply. »It’s since been made clear that the reporting was not Russian disinformation, and in retrospect, we shouldn’t have demoted the story, » Zuckerberg wrote. The White House did not immediately respond to a request for comment regarding Berenson’s lawsuit. Pfizer did not respond to a request for comment.Berenson also feels there is a clear « double standard, » because the mainstream media would be « down Trump’s throat and talking about how he doesn’t care about the Constitution and the First Amendment » if he was in Biden’s shoes. « Because it’s the Biden administration, they get a pass, » Berenson said. »The Biden administration gets exempt from its censorship, » he continued. « And partly that’s because the media was encouraging vaccine censorship, and the media wanted Biden to win in 2020 and went with this completely ludicrous story that this laptop had somehow been planted in some repair store in Delaware by Russian agents. It never made any sense. »A White House spokesperson previously told Fox News, « When confronted with a deadly pandemic, this administration encouraged responsible actions to protect public health and safety. Our position has been clear and consistent: we believe tech companies and other private actors should take into account the effects their actions have on the American people, while making independent choices about the information they present. »Fox News Digital’s Greg Wehner contributed to this report.

Shingles infection linked to risk of cognitive decline, says study: ‘Long-term implications’

[ad_1]

Getting shingles just once could increase the risk of long-term confusion and memory loss, a new study has found. The study, led by Brigham and Women’s Hospital and Harvard Medical School, linked the virus to greater chances of « subjective cognitive decline, » according to a Harvard press release. The findings were published in the journal Alzheimer’s Research & Therapy on Aug. 14.WHAT TO KNOW ABOUT THE RASH CAUSED BY A VIRUS »Subjective cognitive decline » captures early changes in cognition that are noticed before evidence of cognitive impairment shows up on standard neuropsychological tests, explained study author Sharon Curhan, M.D., a physician and epidemiologist at Brigham and Women’s Hospital in Boston. It was also associated with a higher risk of mild cognitive impairment (MCI) and dementia. « Shingles may contribute to dementia risk through neuroinflammation, damage to cerebral blood vessels (cerebral vasculopathy), or direct neuronal damage, » Curhan told Fox News Digital. In this particular study, the researchers analyzed data from three large cohorts of more than 150,000 women and men over a 13-year period. The data came from the Nurses’ Health Study, the Nurses’ Health Study II and the Health Professionals Follow-Up Study, according to Curhan. »There was a suggestion that the magnitude of the elevated risk may be greater among those who were not vaccinated with the shingles vaccine, » she said. The researchers determined that shingles was associated with a greater than 20% higher long-term risk of subjective cognitive decline.THESE ADULT VACCINES COULD REDUCE SENIORS’ RISK OF ALZHEIMER’S, STUDY FINDS: ‘HEIGHTENED IMMUNE RESPONSE’ »We were surprised by the large magnitude and long duration of the increased risk, and [the fact] that it may be different in women and men, » Curhan told Fox News Digital. The elevated risk was even higher among those who were genetic carriers of APOE e4 — the gene that increases the risk for Alzheimer’s disease — than men who were not APOE e4 carriers, she noted, but this was not the case in women. Although he noted that this is an observational study and does not prove cause and effect, Dr. Marc Siegel, senior medical analyst for Fox News, said he believes « the observation is real. » »Shingles is a reactivation of a virus that has been hiding inside nerves, » he told Fox News Digital. « It causes inflammation — and when inflammation involves the brain, it is associated with cognitive decline, which can lead to Alzheimer’s. »DEMENTIA-DEPRESSION CONNECTION: EARLY SADNESS CAN LEAD TO LATER COGNITIVE ISSUES, STUDY FINDSPrevious studies have also looked at the association of herpes zoster and other viruses with Alzheimer’s and the other diseases that cause dementia, according to Heather M. Snyder, PhD, senior vice president of medical and scientific operations at the Alzheimer’s Association in Chicago. »It is unclear if the virus is present in individuals because of changes associated with the diseases that cause cognitive decline, changes of the immune system, or some sort of cause and effect, » Snyder, who was not involved in the study, told Fox News Digital.Previous research has also shown that a history of shingles is also associated with higher long-term risk of a major cardiovascular event, such as a stroke or heart attack, which could last for many years after infection, Curhan warned. Shingles — medically known as herpes zoster — is a painful, blistering rash caused by the varicella-zoster virus (VZV), which is the same virus that causes chickenpox, according to the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).The rash and blisters usually scab over within seven to 10 days. The infection is common, affecting about one in every three people in the U.S. in their lifetime. »A majority of adults have herpes zoster hidden in their brain cells, from prior infection at some previous point in their life, » said Snyder. In addition to the rash — which typically appears as a stripe around one side of the body or face — symptoms can include fever, chills, headache and upset stomach, according to the CDC.In some cases (10% to 18%), the virus can lead to complications like long-term nerve pain.Other rare but serious adverse effects can include vision loss, bacterial infections, pneumonia, brain inflammation (encephalitis), impaired hearing and death, per the CDC.These complications are most likely to affect those with compromised immune systems.Antiviral treatments and pain relief medications are available for those with the condition. These findings show the « long-term implications » of shingles and highlight the importance of public health efforts to prevent the infection, Curhan noted. The vaccination has been shown to be 90% effective at preventing the infection and long-term nerve pain in adults age 50 and over who have healthy immune systems, according to the CDC. »Given the growing number of Americans at risk for this painful and often disabling disease and the availability of an effective vaccine, shingles vaccination could provide a valuable opportunity to reduce the burden of subsequent health issues due to shingles, such as chronic pain (postherpetic neuralgia), cardiovascular complications, or cognitive decline and dementia, » said Curhan. The CDC recommends routine shingles vaccination for people age 50 and older, regardless of whether they have had a prior episode of shingles or have had a previous vaccine. CDC RECOMMENDS ADDITIONAL COVID VACCINE FOR ADULTS 65 AND OVER »Anyone who may be eligible for the vaccine or who may have questions or concerns about vaccination should consult with a health care provider, » said Curhan.Siegel echoed the merits of vaccination. « This study adds to the growing group of evidence that the shingles vaccine (Shingrix) is important for all those over 50 (who have had chicken pox or the varicella vaccine) to decrease the risk of reactivation of the shingles virus and/or complications of active infection, » he said. This was an observational study that primarily focused on a White, highly educated population, Curhan noted — which means future studies in other populations could strengthen the research. »Also, we did not have information on vaccination status in the full study population, so we could only examine this relation among a subset, » she added. Much of the study period took place before the shingles vaccine became widely available, Curhan said — and even once it was introduced, the uptake was generally low. The more recent vaccine was not available until after the study. CLICK HERE TO SIGN UP FOR OUR HEALTH NEWSLETTER »As uptake of the newer shingles vaccine increases, additional studies that evaluate whether vaccination status influences the relation of shingles and risk of cognitive decline would be informative, » Curhan said. For more Health articles, visit www.foxnews.com/health »Therefore, we are currently collecting this information among our participants and hope to conduct these studies in the future. »

Wisconsin parents challenge Title IX changes during school board meeting: ‘Boys are boys and girls are girls’

[ad_1]

A school district meeting in Oshkosh, Wisconsin, unleashed fierce debate among parents and community members while deliberating the local implementation of new Title IX rules. »I think it’s absolutely ridiculous that you guys are even considering letting bathrooms and locker rooms [be] coed. I don’t care how they identify or whatever kind of delusion people live in, whatever kind of mental disease that they have, boys are boys and girls are girls. It’s simple and basic. It’s always been that way, and that’s why we have separate bathrooms, » Josh Vienola, a member of the local Moms for Liberty Facebook group, said during the Aug. 14 meeting. « I don’t understand what’s going on with you guys that we’re even considering this. You guys need to [say], ‘No, absolutely not,’ and come back to reality, » Vienola continued.CHICAGO SCHOOLS’ SEX ED CURRICULUM TEACHES ELEMENTARY SCHOOL KIDS ABOUT GENDER IDENTITY, PUBERTY BLOCKERSHis response to the school board members came after the input of Kora Novy, self-proclaimed director of Oshkosh Pride, who fanned the preliminary flames of the debate by labeling the discussion as a « roadblock. » »What is this fight really about » Novy questioned. « You don’t get to impose [your] beliefs on anybody else, and that’s actually what religious liberty is, it’s that you’re right to believe that is protected but the other person that identifies as something also has a right to be protected. » The LGBT activist said they are « paying attention » and will « be involved in this conversation if it keeps on going, » echoing the sentiment of another local, TJ Hobbs, and their concern over local Title IX compliance.TEXAS SCHOOL DISTRICT ADOPTS POLICY THAT TEACHERS MUST USE PRONOUNS CONSISTENT WITH STUDENTS’ BIOLOGICAL SEXLaura Ackermann, chapter chair of Winnebago County’s Moms for Liberty, an organization that one of the school board members labeled « extremist » during the heated exchange, also chimed into the debate, focusing her concerns on potential discomfort female pupils might have over the changes that Title IX would incite. « The old Title IX was two paragraphs, and it was meant to protect girls and women in sports and education. The new policy, the new regulations are 1,500 pages, » Ackermann said. « Moms for Liberty want all children protected. … What the risk is with the new policy is it does potentially, in some instances, put the transgender student above the girls. That’s what the argument is around changing Title IX from being protecting girls to now including the transgender population. Not that they shouldn’t be, but there are other policies to protect them. » »If a transgender person wants to go into the opposite bathroom, under this law, you must let them. If a girl complains because they’re not comfortable with a male naked in their locker room, she has no recourse under this new policy, » Ackermann continued. HIGH SCHOOL QUARTERBACK DIES AFTER BRAIN INJURY IN OPENING NIGHT GAMEReferencing a lawsuit she sent to the board, Ackermann said that if a girl is « offended » by a transgender student using the girls’ bathroom, they are asked to use a separate restroom, but the same question « cannot » be asked of the transgender student.Ackermann went on to say that the Oshkosh area schools are currently in compliance with Wisconsin state law 118.13 and said that she found current policies were « both state and federally compliant. »The Oshkosh area school district has yet to respond to Fox News Digital’s request for comment.CLICK HERE TO GET THE FOX NEWS APP

Tennessee woman awarded $3.45M after she was disfigured by ‘unnecessary’ surgery

[ad_1]

A Tennessee woman won a $3.45 million lawsuit after she was left with a « completely unnecessary » and « permanent » disfigurement from surgery.Kellianne Goodnight said doctors at the Chattanooga Skin and Cancer Clinic on Shallowford Road in Chattanooga, Tennessee, in 2017 removed several layers of her skin just above the bridge of her nose while performing a Mohr’s surgery. The doctors allegedly told her the layers were filled with cancer cells, but they were not.In the Mohr’s surgery, the doctors would remove a layer of tissue at the crease of Goodnight’s nose and face and examine it microscopically to figure out if there were cancer cells, according to the lawsuit, WZTV reported. If cancer cells are found, the doctors would remove another layer of tissue and examine it, and repeat this process until they found a layer that did not have cancer cells.WORKING THE NIGHT SHIFT MAY CAUSE DANGEROUS HEALTH CONDITIONS, LONG-TERM RISK OF DISEASEDoctor Mark G. Tusa and nurse practitioner Sharon Ann Brown told Goodnight that they had to remove a total of seven layers of tissue. But a third-party examination of the tissues found that none of the layers removed had any sign of skin cancer, according to the lawsuit. The lawsuit also said Tusa « never told the Plaintiff she had an additional or changed diagnosis. »Later, after a followup procedure that lasted roughly eight hours, Goodnight specifically asked for amplifying information. She was informed that the cancer had spread, was the size of a baseball and was located under her nose and mouth.TENNESSEE MAN ALLEGEDLY KILLED WOMAN BEFORE LIGHTING CHURCH ABLAZE, SAID HE WAS ‘GOING TO GET GOD’S WATER’Based on opinions that the pathologist provided, Tusa made a misinterpretation that the layers contained basal cell carcinoma, when they did not. »Dr. Tusa created a huge, deep, irreparable and completely unnecessary crater on Kelliane Goodnight’s face, » the lawsuit said. The procedure left Goodnight with « permanent disfigurement of her face as well as structural damage to the muscles which underlie her face, » according to the lawsuit. »The unnecessary wound created by Dr. Tusa has required several surgeries, and it is anticipated that she will require several more surgeries in the future to attempt to correct this medical error, » it continues. For months after the surgery, Goodnight « could not go out in public without a mask because of the embarrassment and humiliation of having a devastating and horrendous wound created on her face. »The lawsuit also said Goodnight lost her job at BlueCross BlueShield of Tennessee due to the procedure.Last week, Hamilton County Circuit Court Judge Michael Sharp ruled in favor of Goodnight and awarded her nearly $3.45 million, including $800,000 for past pain and suffering, $500,000 for future pain and suffering, $1,500,000 for permanent impairment and disfigurement, $100,000 for the past loss of the ability to enjoy life, $400,000 for the future ability to enjoy life and nearly $150,000 for past medical care and services.

She introduced both these bills in the Senate that she co-sponsored with Bernie Sanders, and her plan to ban fracking and offshore drilling: « Never mind. It’s a campaign year, I can’t run on what I really believe, » and her promise to reimagine public safety, with fewer police, and defund and dismantle, no-bail laws.  The list of wild flipping, flopping, flailing goes on and on, but we don’t really know where Kamala stands. Texans’ C.J. Stroud calls out Cowboys’ Micah Parsons for ‘terrible takes’

[ad_1]

Texas isn’t a lone star state in the NFL these days. It’s overflowing with stars. One of the youngest, Houston Texans quarterback C.J. Stroud, is at the point in his stardom when he isn’t backing down from mocking some big-name rivals in his state. During an interview with Boardroom, Stroud addressed Dallas Cowboys star linebacker Micah Parsons. « He has terrible takes, » Stroud said. « But also, he’s a great friend of mine. I have nothing but great things to say of him other than his takes. »Stroud seemed to reference the takes Parsons started to dish out on his podcast, « The Edge, » starting last football season.CLICK HERE FOR MORE SPORTS COVERAGE ON FOXNEWS.COMParsons’ podcast was so successful last year, he will be returning to do it this year. And he was even promoted to an executive level role at Bleacher Report. Parsons took on the role of president of Bleacher Report’s Gridiron division, which focuses on the company’s football creative content, in May. Parsons had a handful of unique takes on the podcast last year. In one episode in September, while discussing the relationship between Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce, Parsons encouraged other NFL players to pursue relationships with high-status celebrity women and specifically named Zendaya as someone players should pursue. He said this despite Zendaya being in a long-term relationship with actor Tom Holland since 2021. After the Cowboys’ 31-10 loss to the Buffalo Bills in December, Parsons argued that multiple NFL TV analysts root for his team « to fail. » »Former players are waiting for other current players to fail, so that way they can have something to talk about, » he said. « It’s not even to just get into names. I mean, I feel like, at this point, you kind of know who you are. And it’s like why do you want a person to lose so bad? It just seems a lot of people are just waiting for people to fail. »TRAVIS KELCE BUYS AN OWNERSHIP STAKE IN A RACEHORSE — NAMED SWIFT DELIVERYAhead of the wild-card playoff round in January, Parsons made an attempt to predict each winner of the six playoff games that weekend. Parsons went 2-4 in those predictions, which included a prediction his Cowboys would beat the Green Bay Packers. Green Bay won 48-32 in Dallas. The podcast drew criticism from Parsons’ Cowboys teammate, safety Malik Hooker, June 27. Hooker criticized Parsons during a podcast appearance of his own when he was a guest on the « All Facts No Brakes » podcast with former Pro Bowl receiver Keyshawn Johnson. « My advice would be for Micah, it would be: Just make sure we’re all right and being where your feet are, » Hooker said June 27. « Because if we’re out working, and the run game’s terrible, but you’re doing a podcast every week — and you know the run game is terrible — then what are you really caring about? Are you caring about the crowd that’s watching your podcast or are you caring about the success of our team and the Super Bowl that we’re trying to reach? »Parsons has insisted he will continue to do the podcast, and it won’t be a distraction to his team, adding he doesn’t try to be controversial with what he says. « I don’t think no one really cares about what I’m doing on a Monday afternoon when I’m at home with my kids, » Parsons told reporters Aug. 21. « So, why would they care if I’m on Xbox? I think we all get our own free time. When y’all away from here, are y’all thinking about me at home? I would hope not. »I try not to say (anything) controversial, but everyone always is gonna be drawn to something. They’re going to try to take one thing. We all have opinions. We’re not going to agree to what everyone says. That’s life. »Follow Fox News Digital’s sports coverage on X, and subscribe to the Fox News Sports Huddle newsletter.

38 days: VP Harris refuses to reveal policy positions, give news conferences or interviews

[ad_1]

Vice President Kamala Harris’ interview drought is about to come to an end after 38 days and counting since she became the Democratic Party’s de facto nominee.Under pressure to sit down for a substantive interview after weeks of stonewalling, she agreed to a sit-down with CNN’s Dana Bash on Thursday. She will be joined in the interview, which will be taped that day and air Thursday night, by running mate Tim Walz.During one of her rare and brief press gaggles since taking over the nomination from President Biden, Harris insisted on Aug. 9 that she wanted « to get an interview scheduled before the end of the month. » It took another 18 days for one to finally be announced.KAMALA HARRIS GRANTS FIRST INTERVIEW TO CNN AFTER WEEKS OF AVOIDING PRESS, TO BE JOINED BY TIM WALZAs to when she’ll do a formal press conference, that day may never come. »You will not see one press conference from her in the next 75 days until Election Day, » Fox News contributor Joe Concha predicted last week. Former President Trump has sought to highlight the contrast in media availability between the two, sitting for several lengthy interviews in recent weeks and also holding a pair of press conferences.Harris has famously struggled when faced with tough questions in the past, often appearing to laugh uncomfortably or offering jumbled and confusing answers. In 2021, Harris struggled to explain a strategy for securing the border and infamously joked she hadn’t been to Europe, either, when NBC News anchor Lester Holt asked why she hadn’t visited the southern border. HOW LONG WILL THE KAMALA HARRIS HONEYMOON IN THE POLLS AGAINST DONALD TRUMP LAST?In 2023, The New York Times reported that she « all but went into a bunker for about a year, avoiding many interviews out of what aides said was a fear of making mistakes and disappointing Mr. Biden » after the « disastrous » sit-down with Holt.  Whether Bash will drill down on Harris’ numerous policy shifts from 2020 to 2024 remains to be seen. Harris has turned the 2024 race around since replacing Biden, giving Democrats renewed hopes they can keep the White House after things looked grim for their party after Biden’s debate debacle. The Wall Street Journal editorial board on Friday wrote that her Democratic nomination acceptance speech lacked substance. « Harris introduced herself to the American public on Thursday, and her presentation was much like this week’s Democratic convention: well delivered, confident and optimistic, and mostly devoid of policy substance. Whether she can keep this up, unexplained and unexposed, for the next 12 weeks will determine whether she becomes America’s 47th President, » the WSJ editorial board wrote. The WSJ noted a variety of « falsehoods, » peppered throughout her scripted speech, including misleading attacks on Trump regarding abortion rights, Medicare and Social Security. FORMER CLINTON AIDE PAUL BEGALA DEFENDS HARRIS AVOIDING THE MEDIA: ‘WHO CARES?’ »Harris attempted to lay out a vision for her Presidency, but it was mostly empty platitudes. She will provide ‘opportunity,’ though she didn’t say how. She will solve the housing crisis, without saying how or explaining why there is a crisis on her watch. And she will reduce prices, without a repeat of her recent proposal to impose price controls, » the WSJ editorial board wrote. Harris would likely be asked how much she wants to be linked to the Biden record in a serious interview.Other topics she would likely have to discuss include several key foreign policy issues, such as Israel and Ukraine.Fox News Digital’s Paul Steinhauser contributed to this report.

RFK, Jr.’s ex–running mate hits back at critics after he endorsed Trump: ‘They’ve lost their soul’

[ad_1]

California entrepreneur Nicole Shanahan hit back at criticism after her former running mate Robert F. Kennedy, Jr. endorsed former President Trump on Friday at a rally in Arizona. Shanahan responded to MSNBC host Lawrence O’Donnell, who suggested RFK, Jr. « fully disgraced » his father’s name, and Democratic strategist James Carville, who suggested the former independent presidential candidate was « at the top of » America’s « mental health crisis » and should be institutionalized. « This is wild. I’m asking myself what happened to the party of ‘when they go low, we go high,’ because right now, they’re just going lower and lower and lower. And I’m shocked, I’m saddened, I’m worried for them, honestly, » she said Tuesday on « Jesse Watters Primetime. » « They’ve lost their soul. They’ve lost their direction. »Five of RFK, Jr.’s siblings released a statement denouncing his decision to endorse Trump, calling it a « betrayal » of their family’s values and a « sad ending to a sad story. » They said they believe in the Harris-Walz ticket and want an America « filled with hope. »TRUMP-VANCE BASE VOICES SUPPORT FOR KENNEDY’S ENDORSEMENT: ‘THEY BOTH HAVE MY HEART’Shanahan told Fox News host Jesse Watters her ex-running mate is « one of the kindest » people she’s known, and that he said he doesn’t have a « bone of revenge » in his body.RFK, Jr. suspended his 2024 campaign and endorsed Trump, acknowledging that he and the former president would continue to criticize each other on issues they hold different stances on, but ultimately, they would seek to form a « unity government. » The 70-year-old nephew of the late President John F. Kennedy said he wants to focus on ending the Russia-Ukraine war, preventing censorship and promoting children’s health. He told the crowd in Glendale, Ariz., that Trump will « make America healthy again. »WILL ROBERT F. KENNEDY’S LIKELY EXIT FROM 2024 RACE BOOST TRUMP OVER HARRIS? »Making America healthy again is admitting the fact that we have the highest chronic health disease rate of any modern nation, » Shanahan said. « We spend $4.6 trillion on health care. It doesn’t seem to be getting us anywhere, so it’s really asking the hard questions of why is our health care system not delivering healthy people? »RFK, Jr. was officially added to the Trump-Vance transition team Tuesday.

Massachusetts GOP demands information on state’s $1 billion in ‘secret’ migrant spending: ‘Veil of secrecy’

[ad_1]

Massachusetts Republicans have submitted a formal request with the state’s government for information on the alleged « $1 billion in secret migrant crisis spending » as the Bay State grapples with the migrant crisis. In a release from the state’s Republican Party, MassGOP, the group demanded that Gov. Maura Healey’s administration provides a detailed cost breakdown of the toll that the migrant crisis has caused for the state’s residents. « The Healey-Driscoll Administration has shrouded nearly $1 billion spent in secrecy, leaving Massachusetts residents in the dark, » MassGOP chair Amy Carnevale said in a statement. « They have withheld critical information on 600 incidents involving police, fire and EMT. Blocking journalists at every turn, the administration has obstructed the flow of information to the public. »OVER 100 STUDENTS WITHOUT BUS SERVICE AS MASSACHUSETTS FUNDS BUSES FOR MIGRANTSIn a Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request, Carnevale demanded the specifics of the state’s funding to provide housing for migrants.MIGRANT CRISIS PROJECTED TO COST MASSACHUSETTS TAXPAYERS $1.8 BILLION OVER NEXT TWO YEARSIn the FOIA request, Carnevale called for the Healey administration to provide the names of government and private entities that are providing emergency housing for migrants, where the emergency housing is located, any correspondents relating to public safety concerns, and any incident reports or police reports.Carnevale argued that the Democrats’ supermajority has created a « veil of secrecy » surrounding the migrant crisis. »Today, the Massachusetts Republican Party is standing against the veil of secrecy and the obstructionist efforts of the Healey-Driscoll Administration and the Democratic supermajority, » she said. « We stand with the Massachusetts press corps in declaring: enough is enough. The public deserves transparency. Release the details on the vendors profiting from this crisis and the public safety issues affecting our communities. » »On behalf of Massachusetts residents, we are demanding accountability, » Carnevale added. The MassGOP’s request comes after the Center for Immigration Studies (CIS) released a report on July 24, which predicted Massachusetts will struggle to manage the growing number of migrants coming to the state. MIGRANTS TO BE BOOTED FROM LOGAN AIRPORT AS GOVERNOR SAYS SANCTUARY STATE IS FULLThe report noted that the state has already spent more than $1 billion on the Emergency Assistance sheltering program that houses migrants. »The cost to Massachusetts taxpayers of temporary housing and shelters is enormous, but it pales in comparison to the costs that will accumulate in the future if those in the temporary shelters today remain in the Commonwealth for the long term, » wrote Jessica Vaughan, CIS director of policy studies. In addition to housing, some other costs taxpayers will have to cover include schooling, social services, medical care and public safety. The report estimated that the number of « illegal and inadmissible » migrants living in Massachusetts is about 355,000 with 50,000 new arrivals since 2021. It also reported that 10,000 migrants were minors with 8,500 being unaccompanied.Fox News Digital has reached out to the MassGOP and Healey’s office for comment.Fox News Digital’s Joshua Nelson contributed to this report.

JESSE WATTERS: Kamala Harris doesn’t have a good hand, but she’s too afraid to bluff herself

When you have no cards, you bluff and hope your opponent folds. Kamala doesn’t have a good hand, but she’s too afraid to bluff herself. So the media’s doing it for her. They tell you what Kamala’s positions are so that she doesn’t have to. And they change them so she doesn’t have to. At the convention, they went all in on football camo, country music. Kamala’s from Berkeley, grew up in Canada and wants to take your guns. She’s bluffing. Harris tells us no tax on tips, just plagiarizes Trump’s policy. She and Biden can cut the tax on tips now. Why don’t they? When I wake up this morning, I open the paper and I see Kamala wants to build a border wall. Yeah, if she’s elected president, Kamala Harris pledges to spend hundreds of millions of dollars on the wall along the southern border, a project she once opposed and called un-American during the Trump administration.Axios is telling us that Kamala’s pledging to build more border wall. But have you heard Kamala pledge that? I haven’t. Her handlers are just saying she’s going to build border wall, just not as much as Trump wanted his. California bill that would give undocumented first-time homebuyers funds despite budget deficit advances

[ad_1]

California lawmakers voted a bill through the state Senate on Tuesday that would allow illegal immigrants to apply for their « California Dream for All » first-time homebuyers’ financial assistance program.

AB 1840 requires the California Housing Finance Authority’s home purchase assistance program, or California Dream for All Program, to include undocumented applicants.

CALIFORNIA CLOSE TO APPROVING $150K LOANS FOR ILLEGAL IMMIGRANTS TO HELP PURCHASE HOMES

The California Dream for All program passed despite funds running out just 11 days after being instituted in June, which awarded 1,700 first-time homebuyers at the time. Finding more funding for the program was the prime concern in floor debate.

A spokesman for California’s Department of Finance confirmed to KCRA 3 on Tuesday that the California Dream for All has no money left to supply the program. The program awards first-time homebuyers up to 20% of a home’s value or up to $150,000 as down payment assistance. The bill now heads back to the California state Assembly to go over revisions made by the state Senate.

If passed, the bill heads to California Governor Gavin Newsom’s desk to sign into law.

5 CALIFORNIA TAXES KAMALA HARRIS COULD USE TO CRUSH THE MIDDLE CLASS

The bill passed by 12 votes, following party line at 23-11. Some Democrats present did not vote.

Democrats who supported the bill said in debate that undocumented immigrants who apply for the program must pay taxes and show proof of work; Republicans criticized the bill for potentially edging out groups like veterans from the California Dream for All Program.

No funds were appropriated for the Calfornia Dream for All Program this year due to an expected budget shortfall for 2024-2025. Both the governor and state legislatures must approve of appropriating funds in the future to continue the program.California state’s 2024 legislative session closes after 11:59 PM on Saturday.

‘Total bulls—‘: Trump campaign rips ‘preposterous’ Harris pro-border wall narrative after media report

[ad_1]

The Trump campaign on Tuesday pushed back against a narrative within the media that Vice President Kamala Harris is taking a more positive approach to border wall construction — calling such a claim « preposterous. » »How much longer will the mainstream media allow Kamala Harris to hide and use staff to speak on her behalf? » Karoline Leavitt, National Press Secretary for the Trump campaign said in a statement. « It’s DAY 37 of ZERO interviews and Kamala’s anonymous campaign sources are now claiming she supports President Trump’s border wall — this is a preposterous and false claim. »Axios ran a headline on Tuesday morning that accused Harris of a « flip flop » on border wall construction. It noted Harris’ support of a bipartisan border security bill introduced in January. The bill pushes funding to the border, while also authorizing limits on asylum entries.BIDEN-HARRIS ADMIN REFUSES TO REVEAL NATIONALITIES OF TERROR WATCHLIST MIGRANTS NABBED AT BORDER The package, which has the support of the Biden administration but has so far failed to drum up enough Republican support to pass the chamber, also includes a limited amount of funding for additional border wall construction, but it is just a fraction of the $25 billion former President Trump eyed for the project. While Harris, along with President Biden and Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas, have consistently backed the bill, Axios said that her recent speech at the Democratic National Convention in which she said she would sign the bill was a sign of her embracing a more hawkish immigration policy. »Last year, Joe and I brought together Democrats and conservative Republicans to write the strongest border bill in decades. The Border Patrol endorsed it. But Donald Trump believes a border deal would hurt his campaign, so he ordered his allies in Congress to kill the deal. Well, I refuse to play politics with our security, and here is my pledge to you. As president, I will bring back the bipartisan border security bill that he killed, and I will sign it into law. I know — I know we can live up to our proud heritage as a nation of immigrants and reform our broken immigration system. We can create an earned pathway to citizenship and secure our border, » she said.New ads, in which the Harris campaign portrays the former California senator as tough on the border, show images of the Trump-era border wall.FEDERAL JUDGE BLOCKS BIDEN ADMIN MOVE TO GIVE LEGAL STATUS TO ILLEGAL IMMIGRANT SPOUSES OF US CITIZENSBut the Trump campaign noted that, despite that limited support, Harris has a history of opposing the wall at the border. The Trump administration built more than 400 miles of border wall, and it was abruptly halted by the Biden-Harris administration in 2021. While there have been some gaps filled and some limited extra construction due to already appropriated congressional funds, the administration has consistently said it opposes border wall construction and there have been no indications of plans for significant extra construction. Additionally, Harris has long been a critic of the wall construction that took place in the Trump-era. In 2018, Harris called the wall « un-American. » That came a year after she joined Democrats in introducing a bill to block border wall construction.During her campaign launch in 2019, she dismissed the wall’s effectiveness.CLICK HERE FOR MORE COVERAGE OF THE BORDER SECURITY CRISIS »On the subject of transnational gangs, let’s be perfectly clear. The president’s medieval vanity project is not going to stop them, » she said.In 2020, she called it « a complete waste of taxpayer money and won’t make us any safer. »The Trump campaign also sought to link her to the decision to halt border wall construction in her role « as border czar » — although that role was limited to international diplomacy related to root causes. « As Border Czar, Kamala Harris halted construction of the border wall. Kamala’s ACTIONS speak much louder than the WORDS of the anonymous staff she is cowering behind, » Leavitt said.Trump senior adviser Jason Miller described the report as « total bulls— » and said that Harris « hasn’t flip-flopped on anything. » »Harris opposes the wall, has always opposed the wall, and stopped wall construction as VP, » he said.

Pennsylvania man identified nearly 50 years after his remains were found in an Appalachian Trail cave

[ad_1]

Officials in Berks County, Pennsylvania have identified human remains found in a cave used by hikers on the Appalachian Trail nearly 50 years ago.Berks County Coroner John A. Fielding III told reporters during a press conference that hikers discovered the remains of a man in a cave near The Pinnacle, who disappeared on the Appalachian Trail on Jan. 16, 1977. »For 47 years, this man remained unidentified, a nameless figure in a long-forgotten case, » Fielding said. « But today, I am honored to announce that through the unyielding determination of federal, state, and local agencies, the Berks County Coroner’s Office has confirmed the identity of this individual. His name is Nicolas Paul Grubb, a 27-year-old man from Fort Washington, Pennsylvania. »FOX 29 in Philadelphia reported that investigators believe Grubb took his own life, adding it was determined he overdosed on Phenobarbital and Pentobarbital.SERIAL KILLER CONFESSES TO 1986 MURDER OF TEEN MOM IN SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA According to Drugbank.com, Pentobarbital is a barbiturate used to treat short-term insomnia, while Phenobarbital is a barbiturate used to treat all types of seizures, except for absent seizures.Investigators, over the past 15 years, compared Grubb’s remains to 10 people, using fingerprints and dental x-rays.In 2019, Grubb’s remains were exhumed from a cemetery in Berks County to conduct genealogical analysis, but four years later, investigators were still unable to identify him.NORTH CAROLINA INMATE CONFESSES TO FATAL 1989 HIT-AND-RUN WHILE HE WAS ON PRISON WORK RELEASEInvestigators also attempted to perform facial approximations, but the facial bones were broken or missing pieces from the exhumation process. After submitting the original fingerprint card to the national database for missing unidentified and unclaimed remains, the coroner’s office said, an FBI expert determined a match within an hour. »This identification brings a long-awaited resolution to his family, who have been notified and expressed their deep appreciation for the collective efforts that made it possible, » Fielding said. « It is moments like these that remind us of the importance of our work to provide answers, to bring closure, and to give the unidentified a name and a story. »CLICK HERE TO GET THE FOX NEWS APPFielding also said every day since Grubb was identified, his team continues to learn more about the young man. »Nicky, as he was known to his family, served our nation as a member of the Pennsylvania Army National Guard in the early 1970s, » the coroner said. « He was also known to have lived in Colorado for a short time. »

Biden-Harris border policies wreak havoc on indigenous tribe, says expert: ‘Pushed aside and destroyed’

[ad_1]

The Biden administration’s border policies have helped contribute to the destruction of indigenous tribes in Central and South America, according to one expert.Panama’s indigenous Embera-Wounnaan tribe has seen a rapid decay in its way of life over the last three years, with tribal leaders blaming the flood of migrants journeying north from South America and crossing its territory en route to the United States. »What struck me most listening to the five Embera chiefs is how much their concerns reminded me of the past very similar marginalizations of Native American tribes, who were pushed aside and destroyed by gold miners, settlers and U.S. cavalry who prioritized their own narcissistic agendas during the 19th century, » Todd Bensman a National Security Fellow at the Center for Immigration Studies, told Fox News Digital.BIDEN ADMIN REFUSES TO REVEAL TERROR WATCHLIST NATIONALITIES AS ILLEGAL IMMIGRATION EXPLODES ON HIS WATCH The comments come after Bensman’s recent travels to areas around the famed Darien Gap, a large chunk of nearly inhabitable wilderness stretching through Colombia and Panama. The area also is home to the indigenous territory of the Embera, a 19,000-member tribe of hunters and farmers who now find themselves at the center of broader U.S. border security policy.Bensman conducted interviews with all five chiefs of the Embera-Wounaan reservation and detailed their plight in a report for the New York Post, arguing that much of the blame for the situation faced by the tribe rests with President Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris. »Rather that stop this dangerous flow, the White House has encouraged it. » Bensman wrote in the report. « The Biden-Harris administration lavished millions in tax money on United Nations agencies and non-governmental advocacy groups (NGOs) that descended on this region to ease the burdens of Darien Gap travel. »The report outlines how mass migrations to the U.S., which have been encouraged by lax U.S. border policies, have been particularly damaging to the Embera, who have seen their native lands overrun with people, trash and human waste as migrants travel north to the United States. But perhaps worse is the impact the situation has had on many of the tribe’s members, many of whom have abandoned their traditional way of life to chase the quick money that comes with helping facilitate travel through the dangerous wilderness.FEDERAL JUDGE BLOCKS BIDEN ADMIN MOVE TO GIVE LEGAL STATUS TO ILLEGAL IMMIGRANT SPOUSES OF US CITIZENS »Embera men do pilot pretty much every boat ferrying the immigrants. They are making money, » Bensman told Fox News Digital. But the quick money has also led to an epidemic of drug and alcohol abuse within the tribe, as well as a mass-abandonment of its traditions of hunting, fishing and farming. As a result, many members of the tribe have also begun to suffer from food shortages, a problem exacerbated by passing migrants desperate for a meal themselves. « There is infighting among them now to get at the currency paid by immigrants, » Bensman said. « The villages I saw were greatly changed from how residents described them as being just a few years ago. Radical changes have occurred in some of the places I saw. There is filth and garbage everywhere. »Bensman argued that the current situation faced by the tribe shares many traits with the plight of North America’s indigenous populations, only this time « American and international liberal groups » are the ones « clearly repeating that same terrible old history with the Embera. » »One would think that the liberal progressives who staff the United Nations and all of those NGOs down there, facilitating a new kind of gold rush through tribal lands might occupy a higher moral plane than Gen. George Armstrong Custer or President Andrew Jackson during their days of dealing with indigenous peoples in the way as though they didn’t exist. But economic migrants rushing toward U.S. gold clearly are more important to these organizations, » Bensman said.CLICK HERE FOR MORE COVERAGE OF THE BORDER SECURITY CRISISWithout a seat at the table to determine their own fate, the tribal leaders were left hoping to send a message to international leaders, including Biden. »Mr. President and you candidates, you are finishing off and you are killing all the Indians on the Comarca! » General Chief Leonide Cunampia told Bensman during their interview. « You have to pay attention to what’s going on in our territory. The immigration is contaminating us! »Bensman argued that instead of helping facilitate travel, the U.S. will have to commit enough resources for air deportations that would hopefully work to deter larger numbers of migrants, though he sees little hope that a potential Harris administration would change the approach of the current one. »A Trump administration will flood the zone with the help Panama wants to close the gap. Hanging in the balance is the future cultural viability of this tribe out there, » Bensman said. « Either administration owes that tribe a seat at the table going forward. »The White House did not immediately respond to a Fox News Digital request for comment.Get the latest updates on the ongoing border crisis from the Fox News Digital immigration hub.

California candidates trade blows in key district, as Republican slams Dem over ‘MeToo’ court controversy

[ad_1]

A California Republican congresswoman’s campaign is criticizing her Democratic attorney opponent of intentionally crafting a legal defense for a client that blamed victims for their alleged sexual harassment — and the challenger is hitting right back.Rep. Michelle Steel, whose Democratic-leaning Orange County seat is considered a crucial hold for Republicans in November, is facing off with Derek Tran. Tran is an attorney and military veteran who recently defended a former employee of a warehouse market chain who was rebuffing accusations from two women. In the case, plaintiff Luis Pacheco alleged he was wrongfully fired by a warehouse market in San Bernardino County after being accused of sexual harassment by two women with whom he had had « consensual relationships… and still on friendly terms, » according to court documents.ALASKA REPUBLICAN DROPS OUT OF THREE-WAY RACE, DEALING BLOW TO DEMOCRATS NATIONALLYPacheco claimed the market and other defendants conducted a « sham investigation and automatically terminated [him] because he was male. » »Plaintiff Pacheco was discriminated against for his gender due to the political climate and ‘Me Too’ movement. Plaintiff Pacheco believes Defendants automatically chose the females’ side without considering his explanation of events because of his gender, » documents read.Lance Trover, a spokesperson for Steel, said Tran « based his campaign on protecting women, but chose the side of an alleged sexual abuser. » »Not as a defense attorney but in an effort to enrich his client and himself: Voters deserve an explanation from someone who wants to be their representative in Congress, » he said.In campaign advertisements and correspondence, the Steel campaign has used the « Me Too » references to criticize Tran’s legal defense formulation.VERMONT GOP SEES RECORD BALLOT BOOST AS BLUE STATE CITIZENS SEEK CHANGEHowever, Tran sold the firm partway through the litigation and the new leadership took over active cases, including Pacheco’s.In a statement to the Orange County Register, Tom Feher — the current attorney of record on the case — said the California Superior Court has ruled Pacheco’s case has merit and will go to trial. »[That is] despite the attempts of the corporation to deny our client access to justice. My job as workers’ rights attorney is to uphold the law and win justice for workers — it’s not about politics. »Tran’s camp, however, has responded by calling Steel the « last person » who should be criticizing others for treatment of victims — « like Derek Tran has spent his career fighting to do. »CLICK HERE TO GET THE FOX NEWS APP »Michelle Steel puts corporations and political extremists ahead of women’s rights her entire career… Steel even voted against stronger protections for victims of domestic violence and sexual assault by opposing the reauthorization of the Violence Against Women Act in 2021, and led efforts to ban abortion nationwide without exceptions for rape, incest, or the life of the woman, » a spokesperson for Tran’s campaign said.In regard to the votes, Trover responded that Steel opposed a « partisan » Violence Against Women Act iteration, but supported ensuing compromise legislation. The Cook PVI ranks Steel’s district as D+2, meaning she is one of a handful of Republicans defending seats in Democrat-majority districts. The district’s lines changed slightly after the 2020 census.Recent polls depict the race as a dead heat.
