Booger McFarland points finger at Clemson’s ‘same stale offense’ amid program’s streak of disappointments

[ad_1]

The Clemson Tigers faced a tough test in their season opener.Head coach Dabo Swiney and the Tigers traveled to Atlanta for Saturday’s matchup with the Georgia Bulldogs — a team that’s won two of the past three College Football Playoff National Championships.Clemson’s 34-3 loss to the Bulldogs was one of the most lopsided defeats of Swiney’s tenure. The loss sparked numerous questions about the direction of the program, but ESPN college football analyst Booger McFarland shared his thoughts on what he believed has contributed to the Tigers’ shortcomings in recent years.CLICK HERE FOR MORE SPORTS COVERAGE ON FOXNEWS.COMFrom McFarland’s point of view, a lack of creativity on the offensive side of the ball has held Clemson back. The Tigers only managed to produce 188 total yards of offense on Saturday.NICK SABAN DISHES HILARIOUS COMMENT REGARDING OHIO STATE’S $20 MILLION NIL FOOTBALL ROSTER »I’m afraid to say it’s the same old thing, » McFarland during Saturday’s broadcast. « [There is] no creativity on offense. It’s been the same stale offense for four or five years. … If you’re a Clemson fan, you have to ask yourself, when are we going to change? »Swiney’s approach to the transfer portal has been widely criticized. McFarland suggested that Swiney’s roster building philosophy would need to change in order for Clemson to have the most competitive roster possible. »Dabo chooses not to [use the portal], therefore, you’re going to have those lulls in the program, » McFarland said. « And I’m afraid, right now, they have a little bit of a lull. »Swiney was asked about the transfer portal after the blowout loss. »People are going to say whatever they want to say, » Swinney said, via ClemsonWire. « It doesn’t matter what I say. People are going to say whatever they’re going to say. And when you lose like this, they’ve got every right to say whatever they want to say. So, say whatever you want to say, write whatever you want to write. That comes with it. That’s just part of it. »Swiney and the Tigers will have an opportunity to get back on the winning track on Sept. 7 when they host Appalachian State.Follow Fox News Digital’s sports coverage on X, and subscribe to the Fox News Sports Huddle newsletter.

Gold Star families slam Kamala Harris for ‘playing politics’ over Trump’s visit to Arlington National Cemetery

[ad_1]

Vice President Kamala Harris was recently excoriated by Gold Star family members who accused the Democratic presidential candidate of politicizing an incident at Arlington National Cemetery on Monday. The messages were posted on former President Trump’s Instagram account. Eight videos, each featuring different parents of service members killed by ISIS-K terrorists amid the U.S. withdrawal from Afghanistan on Aug. 26, 2021, were published in total. The videos were released in the wake of a statement published by Harris on Saturday, where the vice president criticized Trump for taking photographs at a wreath-laying ceremony event on Monday. The Army said this week that an Arlington National Cemetery official was « abruptly pushed aside » while interacting with Trump’s staff. « As Vice President, I have had the privilege of visiting Arlington National Cemetery several times, » Harris said. « It is not a place for politics. And yet, as was reported this week, Donald Trump’s team chose to film a video there, resulting in an altercation with cemetery staff. »TRUMP IMPERSONATES ELON MUSK TALKING ABOUT ROCKETS: ‘I’M DOING A NEW STAINLESS STEEL HUB’ »Let me be clear: the former president disrespected sacred ground, all for the sake of a political stunt, » she claimed, before adding that she would « never politicize » such an event. The Gold Star family members maintained that they had asked Trump for photographs, as opposed to Trump taking pictures to advance his campaign. In one video, the father of Marine Lance Cpl. Jared Schmitz called Harris’ post « heinous, vile and disgusting. » »Why did we want Trump there? It wasn’t to help his political campaign, » Mark Schmitz said in the video. « We wanted a leader. That explains why you and Joe didn’t get a call. »Darren Hoover, the father of Marine Staff Sgt. Taylor Hoover, said that Harris lacks « empathy and basic understanding » about Monday’s event, and stressed that Trump’s appearance was respectful.HARRIS SLAMS TRUMP OVER ARLINGTON NATIONAL CEMETERY ALTERCATION, PROMPTING FIERY RESPONSE FROM JD VANCE »In keeping with the reverence and respect that is given to all members of our military that are buried there, we invited President Trump, » he said. « We are the ones that asked for the video and the pictures to be taken at the tomb of the Unknown Soldier. »Hoover also added that Trump has « been there for us from the very beginning, » and criticized Harris for « playing politics » over the incident. »You should be ashamed and embarrassed [about] your lack of empathy and decency as a human being, » the father added. « You are only in this for the power and prestige. You don’t care for our military or the citizens of this country. »You should hang your head in shame at your actions or lack thereof. »Fox News Digital reached out to the Harris campaign for comment.

Arch Manning records first college touchdowns as Texas runs over Colorado State in season opener

[ad_1]

With Quinn Ewers and the Texas Longhorns blowing out Colorado State in their opening game of the season, head coach Steve Sarkisian decided to give sophomore quarterback Arch Manning some time under center. Manning, the nephew of NFL legends Peyton and Eli Manning, didn’t disappoint in his first snaps of the new year. Manning was 5-for-6 for 95 yards with a touchdown pass, the first of his college career, as the Longhorns demolished the Rams, 52-0, to begin the season on the right foot. CLICK HERE FOR MORE SPORTS COVERAGE ON FOXNEWS.COMBut Manning didn’t just find the end zone through the air. He ran for his first rushing touchdown. With the score 38-0 late in the third quarter, Manning was leading the Longhorns’ offense on third-and-goal from the 5-yard line when he took the snap. As he surveyed the field, he stepped up in the pocket and looked like he was going to try to run it in for the score himself. ARCH MANNING ANNOUNCES DECISION ON EA SPORTS’ COLLEGE FOOTBALL VIDEO GAME 10 DAYS BEFORE RELEASEHowever, as he bounced out right, he noticed Silas Bolden all alone near the right sideline. Manning dished a shovel pass Bolden’s way. After making the catch, Bolden dove into the end zone for the score. Then Manning found himself on the 1-yard line on fourth-and-goal in the fourth quarter when he took a quarterback sneak right up the gut for a touchdown, Texas’ final score of the day. Manning was quick to celebrate with his teammates, and the ESPN broadcast had shots of Texas fans in the stands cheering. Some of the fans were holding up banners with Manning’s student ID on it. He infamously lost his ID on campus during his freshman year, and it went viral on social media. Manning, the five-star recruit out of Isidore Newman School in New Orleans, the same school his father, Cooper Manning, and uncles starred at, saw time in just two Longhorns games last season with Ewers as the team’s starter.Ewers remains the starter for head coach Steve Sarkisian after opting to return after a College Football Playoff loss to Washington, and he was productive in the win Saturday, going 20-for-27 for 260 yards with three touchdowns and one interception. Manning was the Longhorns’ third quarterback on the depth chart last season, but with Maalik Murphy transferring to Duke, he now backs up Ewers.Ewers will remain Texas’ starter, but with performances like this, Manning should get more opportunities in blowout situations this season. Manning may not be starting, but many college football fans are anticipating the time he can start under center for Texas. Many believed he’d leave for another school through the transfer portal. At the moment, Manning is in line to start for Texas next season with Ewers expected to leave for the NFL after this year.  Follow Fox News Digital’s sports coverage on X, and subscribe to the Fox News Sports Huddle newsletter.

Clemson head coach Dabo Swinney ripped on social media after blowout loss to Georgia: ‘Not doing his job’

[ad_1]

Clemson’s start to the 2024 college football season couldn’t have gone any worse. The Tigers were blown out by their SEC rival, the Georgia Bulldogs, 34-3, Saturday afternoon. And social media wasn’t kind to Clemson head coach Dabo Swinney. Swinney has not embraced the evolution of college football’s transfer portal, which has allowed programs to improve quickly by bringing in new talent each year. After seeing the results Saturday, fans immediately pointed to that as the reason for Clemson’s lack of success against the No. 1-ranked team in the country.  CLICK HERE FOR MORE SPORTS COVERAGE ON FOXNEWS.COMSwinney responded to a question about the transfer portal after the loss. « People are going to say whatever they want to say, » Swinney said, via ClemsonWire. « It doesn’t matter what I say. People are going to say whatever they’re going to say. And when you lose like this, they’ve got every right to say whatever they want to say. So, say whatever you want to say, write whatever you want to write. That comes with it. That’s just part of it. »Georgia head coach Kirby Smart made comments about Swinney’s program-building strategy a few days prior to their matchup, saying « I’m like Dabo » in that he wants to keep his entire roster. However, Smart has done a good job of utilizing the transfer portal since its inception, leading to great Bulldogs teams the past few years with national titles. GEORGIA OFFENSE ERUPTS IN SECOND HALF FOR DOMINATING VICTORY OVER CLEMSON IN SEASON OPENERSwinney’s thought process wouldn’t matter if Clemson, the No. 14-ranked team in the country entering the year, performed better against Georgia. But that wasn’t the case, and fingers were pointed directly at him by critics on social media. « Dabo Swinney’s job is to do everything he can to assemble a team that can compete at the highest level of college football, » one X user tweeted. « He’s not doing his job and will be criticized accordingly and it’s completely fair. »Another X user wrote, « Dabo Swinney’s refusal to use the transfer portal, negative stance toward NIL is on full display today. The talent Georgia has compared to Clemson is night and day. Swinney is a VCR stuck in a Blue (sic) Ray world. »There was much more, with social media users posting memes to convey their thoughts about Swinney. While Clemson quarterback Cade Klubnik struggled, going 18-for-29 for 142 yards, one interception and no touchdowns, Georgia quarterback Carson Beck was electric for the Bulldogs. Beck, expected to be a Heisman Trophy candidate this season, threw for 278 yards on 23-for-33 with two touchdowns. Running back Nate Frazier also scored on the ground, leading the Bulldogs in rushing with 83 yards on 11 carries. Clemson’s start was less than ideal, but it will have a chance to bounce back next week in its home opener against Appalachian State. Follow Fox News Digital’s sports coverage on X, and subscribe to the Fox News Sports Huddle newsletter.

Harris slams Trump over Arlington National Cemetery altercation, prompting fiery response from JD Vance

[ad_1]

Vice President Kamala Harris slammed former President Trump after an incident involving his staff and a cemetery official this week, prompting a critical response from Trump’s running mate, Sen. JD Vance. On Thursday, an Army spokesperson said an Arlington National Cemetery official was « abruptly pushed aside » while interacting with Trump’s staff during a wreath-laying ceremony event Monday. The ceremony honored service members killed by ISIS-K terrorists Aug. 26, 2021, during the U.S. withdrawal from Afghanistan. The U.S. Army said in a statement the employee was making sure that Trump’s team was « made aware of federal laws, Army regulations and DoD policies, which clearly prohibit political activities on cemetery grounds. » Trump claimed he took photographs with families of service members who had requested them. « [President] Joe Biden killed those young people because he was incompetent, » Trump said during a speech in Johnstown, Pennsylvania, Friday. « And then they tell me that I used their graves for public relations services, and I didn’t. »TRUMP IMPERSONATES ELON MUSK TALKING ABOUT ROCKETS: ‘I’M DOING A NEW STAINLESS STEEL HUB’In a statement posted on Facebook Saturday afternoon, Harris accused Trump’s team of disrespecting service members. « As Vice President, I have had the privilege of visiting Arlington National Cemetery several times, » the statement from the Democratic presidential nominee said. « It is a solemn place; a place where we come together to honor American heroes who have made the ultimate sacrifice in service of this nation. It is not a place for politics. »And yet, as was reported this week, Donald Trump’s team chose to film a video there, resulting in an altercation with cemetery staff, » Harris added. « Let me be clear: the former president disrespected sacred ground, all for the sake of a political stunt. »Harris claimed the incident was « nothing new » from Trump and accused the former president of « call[ing] our fallen service members ‘suckers’ and ‘losers’ and disparage[ing] Medal of Honor recipients. » »This is a man who is unable to comprehend anything other than service to himself, » Harris added, before promising to « never politicize » service members.TRUMP-MUSK INTERVIEW: 5 BIGGEST TAKEAWAYS FROM THE 2024 PRESIDENTIAL ELECTION TO THE US BORDER CRISIS The statement was met with swift backlash from Republican vice presidential candidate JD Vance, who suggested Harris « get off social media. » »President Trump was there at the invitation of families whose loved ones died because of your incompetence, » Vance wrote on X. « Why don’t you get off social media and go launch an investigation into their unnecessary deaths? »Karoline Leavitt, who served as an assistant press secretary during the Trump administration, also criticized Harris on social media. »Kamala Harris bragged about being the last person in the room with Joe Biden when they decided on their terrible Afghanistan withdrawal plan, » Leavitt wrote. « Kamala’s stupidity led to one of the most embarrassing events in American history and 13 brave US soldiers being killed. »She has never said their names. She has never reached out to their families, » Leavitt added. « For this alone, Kamala does not deserve to be elected. Kamala has already proven that she would be a dangerously incompetent Commander in Chief. »Fox News Digital reached out to the Trump and Harris campaigns for comment. The Associated Press contributed to this report.

DAVID MARCUS: In West Virginia, a glimpse of what Democrats have lost

[ad_1]

In 2016, businessman Jim Justice ran for governor of West Virginia as a Democrat and won. Two years later, Joe Manchin was reelected to his senate seat as a Democrat in the Mountain state. Today, Justice is a Republican poised to flip that seat and maybe the Senate itself. No state better represents the anachronistic Democratic Party of the 20th century than West Virginia, nor has any state retained so many of these dinosaurs for so long. But that seems about to change as the new Democrats abandon the center.WEST VIRGINIA GOVERNOR BLAMES POLITICS FOR SUDDEN BANK AUCTION OF $50M RESORT AMID KEY SENATE BIDI was invited to breakfast at a Chick-fil-A with about eight or nine guys ranging from their 20s to early 50s who meet up to talk about theology mainly, and a little politics. Aside from my confusion as the only Roman Catholic present as to the detailed intricacies of Annabaptist belief, I was struck by the fact that 25 years ago at least half these guys would have been Democrats. Thirty-five years ago, they all would have been. This was blue, union, West by God Virginia back then. It featured the kind of conservative Democrat who you just don’t see much of anymore. One of the men I met was a new pastor at a local church who only moved to the Eastern Panhandle about a month ago. Frocked, he gave the blessing over our meal, as loud as you like in the middle of a fast-food restaurant, and it was great. Nobody thought it strange at all.The good pastor was from Mississippi and was asked by one of the fellas how he felt about the Confederate battle flag being removed from the state flag back in 2020. He had supported the decision at the time, on the basis of, why give offense? But then he saw how slippery that slope had become with the toppling of Abraham Lincoln and Teddy Roosevelt statues, just as Donald Trump had warned of.But he had more to say, « Yes, there is racism, I saw it, it’s real, but it diminishes with every generation. » The newcomer was pronouncing exactly the kind of nuance that the West Virginia Democrat had long embodied.CLICK HERE FOR MORE FOX NEWS OPINIONThe last ticket topper for the party of Jefferson and Jackson to win West Virginia in a presidential race was son of the south Bill Clinton in 1996. The 2000 election was razor-thin. Since then, the Old Dominion’s younger and victorious sibling is not a swing state, but a weird, centrist senator state, and according to the guy who invited me, Jim Justice might just keep it that way. »He used to be a Democrat, » my buddy said, « Do you think he could be a GOP version of Joe Manchin? »  I parried. « Yeah, I do, » he replied. »You think Manchin could’ve beaten him if he ran? » I persisted. »No, but it’s closer, » he said.West Virginia is not a swing state, but it borders Pennsylvania and Virginia, and the people you meet here might out Herod Herod in terms of embodying the swing state mentality. Who gets the job done is the question. It’s why Maryland Republican Larry Hogan is tied for the Senate seat next door in blue crab cake country.Clearly, the centrist voters of the mid-Atlantic are vital to the Harris campaign. That’s why she suddenly all but says, « What? No! I love fracking, I frack in my own backyard right next to the chili peppers Walz can’t eat. » But her party, and its arrogance and elitism, may have already closed the door on these once-Democrat West Virgnians, and their swing-state cousins. Are there enough suburban women to replace the Godly men I had breakfast with who used to be comfortable with the Democratic party? Maybe. But West Virginia is a lost opportunity for the Democrats. It is a state born in the blood of the union that gives both parties a chance. Right now, it doesn’t seem like Democrats are interested.CLICK HERE TO READ MORE FROM DAVID MARCUS

Mark Cuban polls followers on preferring their kids to be like Trump or Harris: Trump wins in a landslide

[ad_1]

Dallas Mavericks minority owner Mark Cuban posed a question to his followers on X on Friday night in a now-lopsided poll. « Who’s persona and character would you like to see young children grow up to have? » Cuban wrote on a two-way poll with the two options being Donald Trump and Kamala Harris. Trump is leading the poll 65.7% to just 34.3% for Harris, with over 645,000 votes at the time of publication.CLICK HERE FOR MORE SPORTS COVERAGE ON FOXNEWS.COMThe poll prompted several responses from prominent political commentators and influencers on the platform. Former Republican candidate for Missouri Secretary of State Valentina Gomez, who lost earlier this month, was one of many high-visibility right-wing voices in the replies to criticize Harris’ professional history. MARK CUBAN SLAMMED BY KNICKS STAR JALEN BRUNSON OVER COMMENTS ABOUT HIS PARENTSCuban has been a vocal opponent of Trump dating back to the former president’s first bid for office. However, the billionaire sports mogul once sided with Trump.Cuban has said he supported the former president when Trump initially launched his first presidential campaign in 2015. Cuban elaborated on his initial support of Trump during an interview with Vivek Ramaswamy on X on August 7. « In 2015, I was like, ‘He’s great. He’s not a typical Stepford candidate. I thought that was a positive, » Cuban said. « A big part of that is I didn’t think he had a chance. I just wanted to kind of screw things up in traditional politics, which I’m not a fan of. »The « Shark Tank » host even said he would consider being Trump’s running mate in the 2016 election in an interview with Business Insider in July 2015. »I don’t care what his actual positions are, » Cuban also wrote of Trump in a post on his own social media app project « Cyberdust » in July 2015. « I don’t care if he says the wrong thing. He says what’s on his mind. He gives honest answers rather than prepared answers. This is more important than anything any candidate has done in years. »Earlier this year, when Joe Biden was still the presumptive Democratic nominee, Cuban went so far as to say he would vote for Biden over Trump even if Biden were « being given his last rites. » »If they were having his last wake, and it was him versus Trump, and he was being given last rites, I would still vote for Joe Biden, » Cuban told Bloomberg News in March. Cuban has been quick to throw his support behind Harris since she became the presumptive nominee. He defended her proposed economic agenda in a thread of X posts on August 16, and even accused Trump of copying Harris’ policy when the former president declared that his presidency would be « great for women’s reproductive rights. » »And now he is copying @KamalaHQ policies. What’s going on here? » Cuban wrote on X on Aug. 24. Follow Fox News Digital’s sports coverage on X, and subscribe to the Fox News Sports Huddle newsletter.

Superintendent orders Oklahoma schools to promote patriotism after student told to remove US flag from truck

[ad_1]

Oklahoma State School Superintendent Ryan Walters told the Fox News Channel that his school district would be enacting new policies to allow students to show their patriotism after an Oklahoma high school student was forced to remove an American flag from his truck by school staff earlier this month.Walters spoke on « Fox & Friends Weekend » on Saturday to declare that under new state school guidelines, no student will be punished for displaying the flag or showing their patriotism. Rather, they will be encouraged to love their country and better understand its founding. »We’re not going to tolerate this anti-Americanism, » Walters told « Fox & Friends Weekend » co-host Pete Hegseth.INDIANA STUDENT RECEIVES PATRIOTIC SURPRISE AFTER HIGH SCHOOL BANS OLD GLORY DISPLAY: ‘HOLD YOUR GROUND’The public school superintendent’s appearance on the channel came several days after Edmond North High School senior Caleb Horst was reportedly instructed by school officials to remove the American flags from the pick-up truck he uses to drive to school. As Horst told local outlet KOCO, school staff told him it was school protocol to keep flags off campus. Edmond Public Schools denied their stance on flag flying had anything to do with patriotism. They told KOCO the practice was about safety and to avoid becoming a distraction. »It is the practice of Edmond Public Schools to not permit students to fly or bring flags of any kind on our school campuses. This practice has been in place for several years and is explained to our students at the start of the school year along with various other policies and procedures. This is designed to prevent disruptions and distractions during the school day. It is also done in an effort to provide a safe school environment as flying flags on vehicles creates safety issues in the parking lot as well as can cause damage to other vehicles, » Edmond Public School officials said in a statement previously provided to Fox News Digital. »To be clear, this is not about the American flag or patriotism. Edmond Public Schools proudly displays the American flag prominently and in the proper, respectful way outside each of our buildings and in our classrooms. Not only do we recite the Pledge of Allegiance every morning as we start our school day, but we also present the colors and play the national anthem at most of our athletic events. All of these things are done in the proper fashion according to flag etiquette. »Horst said that he had been flying the flags from his vehicle for some time, and had been confident that the school would not try to step on his right to free speech in displaying them. »I’ve never really had problems with it before, and it’s our First Amendment, so it’s kind of hard for them to infringe upon our rights, » he said.Walters slammed the decision and signaled his department was working to change state school rules to address it. »No school in Oklahoma should tell students they can’t wave an American flag. We’ve had Americans die for that flag, die for students to have the right to carry the flag, to wave the flag, to be proud of that American flag, » Walters said in a video posted to X. « My department right now is working on guidelines that we will be issuing to districts to ensure that no student is ever targeted for having an American flag and also that our schools will promote patriotism. »Fox News Channel’s interview with Walters led off with some of the new guidelines the superintendent’s department have enacted to prevent such incidents, among them one that obligates schools to develop a clear policy that ensures flags can be flown and displayed, another that requires students in the state to recite the Pledge of Allegiance at least once a week, and another ensuring that schools file a report to show they are complying with these guidelines.RV RETAILER CAMPING WORLD DEFIES CALIFORNIA COUNTY ORDER TO TAKE DOWN GIANT AMERICAN FLAGWalters told Hegseth that he wants his schools to stand against the anti-Americanism pushed by the « Biden administration, by the teachers’ unions, by the radical left. » »We’re not tolerating it in our schools. We want patriots. We want our students flying the American flag, » he declared. The superintendent added that his administration has « acted swiftly to say this will never happen again. Every school in the state will protect the students’ right to fly that flag. We will fly that flag, and we will promote patriotism in Oklahoma schools. »Walters also said that the state’s schools are « redeveloping our social studies standards to get more of an understanding of the American founding. » »We need more patriotism. We’ve seen our schools become leftist indoctrination mills pushing hatred for country. That’s not going to happen in Oklahoma, » he declared. The superintendent issued a memo to state schools in June directing them to incorporate the Bible and Ten Commandments into their curricula for grades 5-10, primarily for historical context. A Democratic state politician in Texas is flipping to the Republican Party for her final four months in office.State Rep. Shawn Thierry published a statement to social media on Friday decrying the Democratic Party’s march into the « progressive abyss » after she lost her primary for supporting a GOP-led bill protecting minors from gender transition procedures. »The Democratic Party has veered so far left, so deep into the progressive abyss, that it now champions policies that I cannot, in good conscience, support — policies like promoting sex changes for children during a vulnerable stage of their lives, and dismantling Title IX protections for women in sports, » Thierry wrote.TEXAS RESIDENTS AFFECTED BY BORDER SECURITY UNDER BIDEN-HARRIS ADMIN EXPRESS FEAR OF FUTURE ATTACKThierry said because of her break with the values of her party, she will serve her final few months in office as a member of the GOP. »I now stand with the party of Lincoln, the party that fought to preserve our Union and fought to end the atrocities of slavery, » she added.Thierry lost to primary challenger Lauren Ashley Simmons during a runoff election in May. TEXAS ANNOUNCES OVER 1M INELIGIBLE VOTERS REMOVED FROM VOTING ROLLS SINCE LAST PRESIDENTIAL ELECTIONA major factor in her failure within the Democratic Party is believed to have been her support for a 2023 Republican bill that barred gender transition for minors. »Mothers around our country from all backgrounds, races, and communities understand that it’s our sacred duty to preserve the innocence of our children, protect them from being sexualized, and sterilized, » Thierry wrote. « To respect universal truths, and to uphold the rights of biological women as defined by science, nature, and common sense. » « I will not be alone; I will be with millions of courageous women and men of good conscience, who are willing to place people over political ideology, » she concluded.

Human remains found at California nudist resort after couple vanishes

[ad_1]

Police investigating the disappearance of a California couple from a nudist resort say they have found human remains underneath the home of a neighbor being charged with their murders. The Redlands Police Department says authorities on Friday were able to enter « the area under the home where murder suspect Michael Sparks was located on Thursday » at the Olive Dell Ranch in Colton and « began removing bags of evidence from the space. » Stephanie and Daniel Menard had last been seen on Saturday, Aug. 24. « Coroners officials confirmed the evidence included human remains, » the Redlands Police Department said, adding that « a short time after beginning to remove evidence, the space showed signs of potential collapse and all personnel were removed. » The human remains are now being examined by the local coroner’s office. CALIFORNIA NUDIST RESORT NEIGHBOR CHARGED WITH MURDER AFTER COUPLE DISAPPEARS City of Redlands spokesperson Carl Baker told reporters Friday that investigators were « confident » that the Menards were deceased and still on Sparks’ property. Baker added that Sparks was found hiding underneath his home Thursday night after not responding to police for several hours. Investigators say the Menards were reported missing by a friend on Sunday and were last seen at their home Saturday at the resort.  SOUTH CAROLINA AUTHORITIES REVEAL MASSACHUSETTS MAN’S CAUSE OF DEATH AFTER HE VANISHED IN HILTON HEAD « The Menards’ unlocked vehicle was located down the road from their residence the same day. Stephanie Menard’s purse was located inside of her residence along with her and Daniel’s cell phones, » the Redlands Police Department said. « The Menards’ dog, a small white Shih Tzu named Cuddles, is also missing. »  Sparks has now been charged with murder. The motive for the alleged killings is unclear. On its website, Olive Dell Ranch describes itself as « Southern California’s favorite nudist resort for families and couples.  « It’s the ideal spot to enjoy the nudist/naturist lifestyle whether visiting for the day or an overnight stay, » a description adds.

Former Mexican drug cartel leader who generated ‘new era’ of organized crime is released from US prison

[ad_1]

Osiel Cárdenas Guillén, a former drug cartel leader described as having « generated a new era of organized crime » in Mexico, has now been released from U.S. prison and may be heading back over the border, reports say. Cárdenas Guillén, the past leader of the Gulf cartel who created the Zetas — a gang of former Mexican special forces soldiers who became his private army and hit squad — was transferred into the custody of U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement on Friday at a federal prison in Terre Haute, Indiana, officials told Reuters. In 2010, Cárdenas Guillén was sentenced to 25 years in prison on charges including threatening to assault and murder federal agents and was ordered to forfeit $50 million from his criminal enterprise. It’s unclear why he did not serve his full sentence. However, the move into ICE custody suggests he will be deported to Mexico, where an official says he faces two arrest warrants, according to The Associated Press. Leo Silva, a former U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration agent who previously worked in Mexico to combat the Zetas, told Reuters that the Cárdenas Guillén « generated a new era of organized crime » and « unleashed this mentality of creating fear in the country. » MEXICAN DRUG LORDS’ AMERICAN RACEHORSE RING HID DEADLY CRIME ENTERPRISE The news agency cites Silva as directly blaming Cárdenas Guillén for the rise in grisly cartel-related violence in Mexico over the last 20 years. The Zetas that he created committed acts of terror that regularly involved slaughtering dozens of people, decapitating them or dumping heaps of hacked-up bodies on roadways, The Associated Press reports. Cárdenas Guillén’s own nickname was « El Mata Amigos, » or « The one who kills his friends, » and the 57-year-old once moved tons of cocaine and made millions of dollars through the Gulf cartel, based in the border cities of Reynosa and Matamoros. EL CHAPO’S SON PLEADS NOT GUILTY IN CHICAGO COURT AFTER ARREST IN TEXAS WITH CARTEL LEADER ‘EL MAYO’ He was eventually captured in 2003 and extradited to the U.S. four years later. By 2010, the Zetas had formed their own cartel, spreading terror-style attacks across Mexico as far south as Tabasco until their top leaders were killed or arrested in 2012-2013. The AP reports that one of Cárdenas Guillén’s most brazen acts was when he surrounded and stopped a vehicle carrying two U.S. DEA agents and one of their informants in 1999 in the border city of Matamoros, across from Brownsville, Texas. His gunmen pointed their weapons at the agents and demanded they hand over the informant, who would almost certainly be tortured and killed. The agents toughed it out and refused, reminding him it would be a bad decision to kill employees of the DEA. Cárdenas Guillén eventually called off his gunmen, but not before reportedly saying « You gringos, this is my territory. » The Associated Press contributed to this report.

Saunas have health benefits, but overuse is linked to dangerous health risks

[ad_1]

Taking time to sit in a sauna can be a great way to decompress after a grueling workout or even a stressful day. While in a sauna, you can add to the relaxation by reading your favorite book, listening to a motivational podcast or just by closing your eyes, taking deep breaths and sweating the stress away. Saunas are commonly found at gyms and spas, but you can buy one for your home. MAXIMIZE HAIR GROWTH WITH THESE OILS THAT CAN BE EASILY ADDED TO YOUR DAILY SELF-CARE ROUTINEA sauna offers health benefits, but it’s also important to be mindful of risks. A sauna is « a specific room heated to about 150 to 195 (F) degrees, and where the temperature and humidity of the room can be controlled with sprinkling water on the rocks in the heater/stove, » according to the North American Sauna Society’s website. Some of the most commonly found saunas are wood-burning saunas, electrically heated saunas, manufactured sauna rooms, smoke saunas, steam rooms and infrared rooms. For the most part, many of the health benefits are consistent no matter what type of sauna you use. THE HEALTH BENEFITS OF MORINGA INCLUDE SETTLING INFLAMMATION, LOWER BLOOD SUGAR, ACCORDING TO EXPERTS »While many benefits overlap, steam may be better for respiratory issues, far infrared for weight loss and recovery, » Dr. Brooke Jeffy, a board-certified dermatologist from Scottsdale, Arizona, and founder of youth skin care brand BTWN, told Fox News Digital via email. There are several different health benefits that come along with sauna use. « Both steam and dry saunas can have beneficial effects on respiratory conditions, cardiovascular disease and dementia, » Jeffy said. « They also help stiff muscles and joints and increase circulation to the skin. Both steam and infrared saunas have beneficial effects on blood pressure. Infrared saunas may improve weight loss when combined with exercise and improve muscle recovery. » CLICK HERE TO SIGN UP FOR OUR LIFESTYLE NEWSLETTERThe time at which you use a sauna doesn’t matter, according to Jeffy. Either a morning sweat or a relaxing sit in the sauna before bed can boast health benefits. Many people also choose to hop in a sauna after a workout. « Post-workout sessions help improve weight control and muscle recovery, » Jeffy said. When in a sauna, make sure you keep track of how long you’ve been inside. Many gym saunas have a clock, so you don’t have to take your phone inside, potentially causing it to overheat. If there isn’t a timer or clock available, make sure to bring one with you or set an alarm to sound so you know when it’s time to exit. For more Lifestyle articles, visit www.foxnews.com/lifestyle »The maximum time to spend in the dry sauna or steam room is about 15-20 minutes, » Jeffy said. « Infrared sauna can be used longer, anywhere from 20-40 minutes. »While sauna use does include benefits, there are also risks you should be aware of if you decide to add it to your routine. The risks include dehydration, heat exhaustion and stroke, according to Jeffy. To avoid potential dehydration, bring a bottle of water into the sauna with you.If you aren’t a regular sauna user already, consider a slow progression to allow your body to adjust and slowly begin increasing the time you sit inside. Lastly, if you are pregnant, sick, intoxicated or prone to dizziness, you should not use a sauna, according to Jeffy. « Saunas should not be used if you have had a recent heart attack, or history of angina, aortic stenosis or congestive heart failure, » Jeffy added.

With 6 days until voting starts, ‘election season’ kicks off sooner than you think

There are 65 days until Election Day on Tuesday, Nov. 5.But if Americans vote like they did in the last two election cycles, most of them will have already cast a ballot before the big day.Early voting starts as soon as Sept. 6 for eligible voters, with seven battleground states sending out ballots to at least some voters the same month. It makes the next few months less a countdown to Election Day, and more the beginning of « election season. »VANCE PRAISED FOR ‘ABSOLUTE FIRE’ TAKEDOWN OF HARRIS-WALZ ‘TAG TEAM’ RIOT ENABLERS: ‘MAKE AMERICA BURN AGAIN’States have long allowed at least some Americans to vote early, like members of the military or people with illnesses. In some states, almost every voter casts a ballot by mail. Many states expanded eligibility in 2020, when the COVID-19 pandemic made it riskier to vote in-person.That year, the Fox News Voter Analysis found that 71% of voters cast their ballots before Election Day, with 30% voting early in-person and 41% voting by mail.Early voting remained popular in the midterms, with 57% of voters casting a ballot before Election Day.TIM WALZ’S SELECTION AS HARRIS RUNNING MATE DRAWS SKEPTICISM, EVEN AMONG ANTI-TRUMP FIGURESElections officials stress that voting early is safe and secure. Recounts, investigations and lawsuits filed after the 2020 election did not reveal evidence of widespread fraud or corruption. There are a few ways to vote before Election Day.The first is early in-person voting, where a voter casts a regular ballot in-person at a voting center before Election Day.The second is voting by mail, where the process and eligibility varies by state.Eight states vote mostly by mail, including California, Colorado, Nevada and Utah. Registered voters receive ballots and send them back. Most states allow any registered voter to request a mail ballot and send it back. This is also called mail voting, or sometimes absentee voting. Depending on the state, voters can return their ballot by mail, at a drop box, and/or at an office or facility that accepts mail ballots. In 14 states, voters must have an excuse to vote by mail, ranging from illness, age, work hours or if a voter is out of their home county on Election Day.States process and tabulate ballots at different times. New Oregon quarterback Dillon Gabriel says school was ‘perfect spot for’ 6th year of college football

[ad_1]

Saturday night marks the start of Dillon Gabriel’s sixth season of college football with his third different school. The quarterback began his career starting for the University of Central Florida, where he played for three years before heading to Norman to play for the Sooners in Oklahoma. In December, with one year of eligibility remaining, Gabriel decided to head to the Pacific Northwest to play with the Oregon Ducks.CLICK HERE FOR MORE SPORTS COVERAGE ON FOXNEWS.COMGabriel threw for more than 3,000 yards in both the 2022 and 2023 seasons and was 10-2 in his dozen starts with the Sooners. He’s going from the Big 12 (Oklahoma is now in the SEC) to the Big Ten (Oregon was in the Pac-12 last year), and he’s excited for the change. »It being the third conference I’ve played in, I think in that aspect it’s cool. I’ve played in so many different places, and I feel like it’s what football is all about. I’ve had the privilege to play in a bunch of different cool environments, and it’s been very exciting. The more, the merrier. It’s gonna be a lot of fun, » Gabriel told Fox News Digital in a recent interview.Gabriel said Oregon was « the perfect spot » for him when he decided he wanted to take advantage of his extra year of eligibility.SEC QUARTERBACKS ‘FIRED UP’ ABOUT NEW AND IMPROVED CONFERENCE: ‘GONNA BE AWESOME' »It was kind of where I needed to be at the right time. … I think college is very special, and I think it’s a pivotal time to be the player you want to be to prepare yourself for the biggest job interview of your life, which is the NFL, » he said. « I think if you ask anyone, if you can take this test or job interview, you try to get all the knowledge and experience you can prior to getting that job interview. So, that’s kind of how I looked at it. « I also want to win a national championship. I want to win at the highest level. So, the competitor in me wanted to do that as well. It was a big decision, but when you look at it from a player standpoint, that’s kind of how I made my decision. »Gabriel, admittedly, had instances where he was « uncomfortable » during camp, but that’s the beauty of the journey. »It’s just a lot of learning. I think a lot of people, when they do transfer, they go to coaches they know so they know what to expect. But this one was definitely a decision I made to try something new, be uncomfortable and grow, » Gabriel said. « I think this offseason I’ve been appreciative that this is a new offense I’m learning, new coaches I haven’t been around, but an uncomfortable situation creates growth. I’ve learned a lot about myself and football from different perspectives. It’s my sixth year of college. I’m not stagnant, consistent. It’s something new, and I’m forever learning, growing and improving. « I’m looking at it as a huge positive because I’m looking at guys that have been at one school for six years. They get stuck in their ways or no change or evolution. Not in a negative way. But I just look at it as so many positives from this offseason. »The Ducks begin their Big Ten and Dillon Gabriel eras against Idaho at 7:30 p.m. ET Saturday.Follow Fox News Digital’s sports coverage on X, and subscribe to the Fox News Sports Huddle newsletter.

PERK’s Amy Bohn: Newsom ‘using children in this political game’ of gender identity in schools

[ad_1]

Amy Bohn is the president and co-founder of California-based PERK (Protection of the Educational Rights of Kids). The organization advocates for parental rights at the local and state level, and has been a constant thorn in the side of Democratic Gov. Gavin Newsom.Bohn sat down with Fox News Digital to discuss California’s recently passed legislation, AB 1955, which would prohibit educators from informing parents when their children change their pronouns, name, or gender identity at school.NEWSOM’S SCHOOL GENDER IDENTITY LAW MANDATES ‘TEACHERS MUST LIE TO PARENTS,’ PARENTAL RIGHTS GROUPS SAYBohn argues that the legislation is a usurpation of parental rights. »So California’s AB 1955 is, I think, one of the worst bills we’ve seen thus far, that prohibits parents from being notified or informed about their child, changing their gender identity or anything like that at school, » she said. « So it completely prohibits educators, teachers and the school from letting parents know about any kind of change with their child. It also promotes secrecy… removing all of this information from parents, and creates a file on parents at the school level as well, a secret file. »Supporters of the legislation suggest that students are entitled to privacy. The bill’s sponsor, Assemblyman Chris Ward, a Democrat who represents a San Diego-based district, argues that it affords students « the dignity of deciding when they’re ready to share some of the most private information about themselves. »Minors, Bohn said, do not have the legal standing to consent to making such decisions. »I would say that the issue in this is that a child does not have the capacity to consent. So every minor has to grow up and is developing, and a brain is not fully developed until they’re 25 years old. That’s science. So to even think that children have some kind of capacity to consent to something like this without their parents… that’s why there are consent laws in place, » she said. « And parents are there to guide, to protect, to make sure that their children are not exploited or taken advantage of. I think what he’s saying is honestly utter nonsense. »CALIFORNIA GOV. GAVIN NEWSOM SIGNS BILL BANNING SCHOOLS FROM NOTIFYING PARENTS OF CHILD’S GENDER IDENTITYBohn said she believes that the legislation enjoys the backing of Newsom for reasons of political expediency. »I think he wants it to go into law because I think it’s a political move, to be honest. And that’s also one of the problems with this bill is they’re using children in this political game, this political agenda, » she said. « I don’t think he’s concerned or cares about the children. And I think that we have seen as PERK, in California, Newsom is eroding parental rights. »While AB 1955 has been a major issue for PERK this year, the organization has also been active in other public policy battles, particularly related to educational policies during the COVID-19 pandemic.Bohn has been vocal against vaccine mandates in school districts.WALZ’S ‘FREEDOM’ MESSAGE CLASHES WITH RECORD ON COVID SCHOOL CLOSURES, INDOOR MASK MANDATES »I do not believe schools should be able to mandate vaccines, because that’s a medical treatment. That’s something that parents and doctors should be the stewards of, » she said. « We’ve actually seen mandates across the state of California on vaccines, including the COVID mandate, and it was illegal for them to do that. They were bypassing the legislative process and the [state] Health Department. »PERK was involved in litigation challenging such policies. »We pushed back against that. We filed lawsuits. We won those lawsuits, by the way, » Bohn said. « I just don’t think mandates belong anywhere in our society, because if we’re supposed to be free, which we are, then mandates are completely [the] opposite of what the Constitution stands for. »Bohn and PERK also fought Newsom and the teachers unions over COVID lockdowns. « So from the very beginning, when we heard Gov. Newsom say it was going to be two weeks to slow the spread and schools closed, we looked at each other and [we knew] this is going to be a year or longer, » she said. « Immediately, within two weeks, we sent a letter to Gov. Newsom and to the legislators saying, ‘This is bad policy. We can already tell you how this is going to harm children.' »Bohn added: « You shouldn’t be implementing these kinds of lockdown measures, especially on the kids. So we started to push back immediately at the highest level. Then, we informed parents, ‘This is what’s going on. This is how it’s going to hurt your families, your kids and their education and academic learning and the academic loss we were anticipating,’ and got parents involved to push back. »PERK was credited with driving local protests and activism at school board meetings in the wake of the lengthy closures. »So we actually brought lots of parents and people to school board meetings to encourage the schools to open back up as quickly as possible. We put out surveys. We filed lawsuits. We did a lot in the space to try to help get the schools opened back up, » Bohn said. « And we’re very active in representing hundreds of thousands of families and kids that needed those schools open. »Newsom’s office did not immediately respond to Fox News Digital’s request for comment.

Honey Deuce, US Open’s signature cocktail, owes its origin to honeydew melon balls

[ad_1]

The Honey Deuce cocktail, which made its debut at the U.S. Open in 2006, is arguably as popular today as the tennis tournament itself. Case in point: An awkward moment occurred during a broadcast this week when a man returning to his seat with two of the cocktails — one of which was presumably for the woman next to him — was beaten to it by another man seated in the row behind him.But if not for one man’s purchase of honeydew melon balls before a weekend in the Hamptons some years ago, the U.S. Open’s signature cocktail might not have looked as it does today.TEQUILA IS MORE THAN JUST A SHOT, PLUS OTHER FUN FACTS ABOUT THIS SPIRITFox News Digital spoke with Nick Mautone, a mixologist and hospitality industry consultant who served as brand ambassador for Grey Goose vodka, to discuss the birth of the beverage.A New York native who lives in Seattle today, Mautone said he was tasked with creating a new cocktail for the U.S. Open when Grey Goose became the official beverage sponsor in 2006.As Mautone was driving home in the Hamptons, he stopped to pick up some items to create a dessert salad that he intended to make for guests who would be visiting. On the grocery list were honeydew melon balls. »Immediately the thunderbolt went off and I said, ‘Holy cow, these look just like tennis balls,' » Mautone recalled to Fox News Digital. « So, from that moment on, I knew that that was the garnish, non-negotiable. »Mautone presented it to the brand team at Grey Goose, who « fell in love » with the garnish; he also spoke to the U.S. Open staff.NEW JERSEY RESTAURANT BREAKS GUINNESS WORLD RECORD FOR LARGEST TEQUILA, MEZCAL LIBRARY »The people doing the food service operations were less than thrilled at the idea of making a gazillion honeydew melon balls, » Mautone said. That is, until they found a company that « makes hundreds of thousands of melon balls every day and ships them fresh to the U.S. Open. »Mautone played around with « a couple of iterations » of the cocktail at first, including one version that used blackberry liqueur, before settling on the final recipe. It includes Grey Goose vodka, fresh lemonade, a « drizzle » of Chambord black raspberry liqueur and, of course, the honeydew melon balls. The goal, Mautone said, was to avoid making « a very complex drink so that the bartenders can actually serve it without getting frustrated. »He added, « It’s a very simple two- or three-step process for a bartender to make the drink. » He said he was « dead set on a tall drink as well. »Since the tournament is played in New York in August, Mautone didn’t want « something very spirit-forward because it’s too alcoholic and not pleasant to drink in the summer heat. »Mautone said he believes patrons were « getting bored with beer and other libations » — so the Honey Deuce came along at the right time. »Lo and behold, it’s become a cultural icon, » Mautone said.He attributes much of it to « old-school guerrilla marketing, » he said. »It went viral, » he said. The cocktail was crafted before Instagram existed and while social media was still in its infancy — so the Honey Deuce didn’t find fame outside of Queens, New York, until much later.VIRAL ‘FLUFFY COKE’ DRINK TREND TAKES OVER TIKTOK AND IT ONLY REQUIRES 2 INGREDIENTS »It’s become a cultural phenomenon by virtue of social media, specifically the honeydew melon balls, which I think a lot of people just look at as a genius garnish at a tennis match, » Mautone said. « So it’s become an Instagram-worthy drink that’s very friendly, very refreshing and inviting. »The Honey Deuce has been in the news recently after its latest price hike, selling for $23. It sold for $22 at last year’s tournament.Mautone said he thinks the beverage, which comes with a souvenir cup, is priced appropriately.CLICK HERE TO SIGN UP FOR OUR LIFESTYLE NEWSLETTER »If I was in midtown Manhattan or a great craft cocktail bar in Brooklyn and I ordered a craft cocktail, I’d be paying $18, » he said. « So, when you say $23, it’s not that much more for the experience you’re getting at, to me, one of the greatest sporting events in the country. »For more Lifestyle articles, visit www.foxnews.com/lifestyleMautone said he plans to attend the U.S. Open. And when asked if he intended to order a Honey Deuce while he’s there, his answer was emphatic: « Absolutely. »
