Security ramps up for Eagles-Packers Brazil game after players voice safety concerns

[ad_1]

Security has ramped up ahead of the NFL’s first-ever game in Brazil after players from the Philadelphia Eagles and Green Bay Packers voiced concerns about safety in São Paulo, according to ESPN. The two NFC foes will battle in Week 1 at Arena Corinthians in São Paulo, marking the first NFL game played in South America. While the NFL continues its global reach, players like Eagles star receiver A.J. Brown have noted a lot of « don’t do’s » have been passed down to those heading there. CLICK HERE FOR MORE SPORTS COVERAGE ON FOXNEWS.COM »We had a meeting with a whole bunch of ‘don’t do’s,’ » Brown told reporters, via ESPN. « So, I’m just trying to go down there, win a football game and come back home. »His Eagles teammate, top cornerback Darius Slay Jr., echoed Brown’s comments on his « Big Play Slay » podcast, adding that players are being told to stay put and not walk the streets. EAGLES STAR SAYS HE TOLD FAMILY NOT TO COME TO BRAZIL AMID SAFETY CONCERNS: ‘THE CRIME RATE IS CRAZY’ »Week 1, I’m looking forward to it, I can’t wait. But man, I do not want to go to Brazil. You want to know why? I’m here to tell you why, » Slay explained. « They already told us not to leave the hotel. They told us we can’t do too much going on because the crime rate is crazy. »Slay even questioned why the NFL would want a game in Brazil in the first place, considering the safety concerns. « I’m like, ‘NFL, why y’all wanna send us somewhere where the crime rate is this high and we out the country?’ You know, the first thing people are thinking is like some terror could possibly happen, » he said. « I told my family do not come down there because I’m not going to be nowhere to be found. I’m going to be in the hotel chilling, minding my business, playing my game after a long 9½-hour flight. »Slay later apologized for his comments, saying he was sorry if he offended anyone via social media. But Slay’s concerns are legitimate because he isn’t the only one voicing them. And the São Paulo state government has reacted accordingly. « To guarantee the safety of the players, the military police will reinforce the number of personnel upon arrival of the delegations at the Guarulhos Airport and escort the teams to their hotels, training sites and the stadium, » it said in a statement, via ESPN.This isn’t the first time the NFL has had games in locations where safety concerns were brought up, including a stop in Mexico, where games have been played since 2005. The Eagles and Packers will be heading to Brazil Wednesday to gear up for the start of the new 2024 NFL season, one in which both teams are expected to be playoff contenders. Follow Fox News Digital’s sports coverage on X, and subscribe to the Fox News Sports Huddle newsletter.

Alec Baldwin’s ‘Rust’ prosecutor wants involuntary manslaughter dismissal reconsidered

[ad_1]

The special prosecutor in Alec Baldwin’s « Rust » shooting trial requested the judge reconsider the dismissal with prejudice of the actor’s involuntary manslaughter charge.Judge Mary Marlowe Sommer dismissed Baldwin’s charges mid-trial on July 12, claiming the prosecution had withheld evidence from the defense. However, prosecutor Kari Morrissey argued there were « insufficient facts » to support Sommer’s ruling and claimed Baldwin’s due process rights had not been violated in an Aug. 30 filing obtained by Fox News Digital.Morrissey admitted the evidence may have been « suppressed » from Baldwin’s team but insisted the actor was aware the ammunition existed before trial. The prosecutor noted the evidence was not « favorable » to Baldwin nor « material. »JUDGE DISMISSES ALEC BALDWIN’S INVOLUNTARY MANSLAUGHTER CASE IN STUNNING VICTORY FOR ACTORFox News Digital reached out to representatives for Baldwin and Morrissey. Baldwin faced an involuntary manslaughter charge after a gun he was holding on the set of « Rust » in 2021 fired, killing cinematographer Halyna Hutchins. The fourth day of the trial opened with defense attorney Luke Nikas accusing the state of withholding evidence that prop distributor Seth Kenney was the source of the live ammunition. Nikas pointed to ammunition turned over to the Santa Fe County Sheriff’s Office in March.Morrissey took the stand and emphasized that she never believed that the evidence in question, which came from ex-Arizona police officer Troy Teske, was exculpatory because the ammunition turned over to law enforcement never left the state of Arizona before the fatal shooting on the « Rust » set. »I decided not to take any steps to collect this ammunition because it was in Arizona, had never come to New Mexico and didn’t match the live rounds on the set of ‘Rust,' » Morrissey testified.LIKE WHAT YOU’RE READING? CLICK HERE FOR MORE ENTERTAINMENT NEWSThe prosecution claimed the ammunition was entered into a separate evidence database after an analysis by crime scene technician Marissa Poppell was completed.Poppell admitted during testimony that she didn’t inventory the evidence from Teske under the « Rust » case, but instead under a different case number. The defense also didn’t receive a supplemental report on the new evidence. Santa Fe County Sheriff’s Corporal Alexendria Hancock, the lead investigator on the case, admitted this decision was made in consultation with prosecutors and her supervisors. »OK. So you, you all had discussions about what to do with what he dropped off? » Judge Sommer asked. »Yes, » she replied. »And you all agreed to put it in the separate file? » the judge pressed. « Yes, » she answered. The evidence was also not stored with the other evidence for the case, she said.CLICK HERE TO SIGN UP FOR THE ENTERTAINMENT NEWSLETTERSommer chose to dismiss the charges against Baldwin with prejudice, meaning the charge cannot be brought again after the appeal options have been used. »The state’s willful withholding of this information was intentional and deliberate, » Sommer said in the courthouse. « If this conduct does not rise to the level of bad faith, it certainly comes so near to bad faith as to show signs of scorching prejudice. »The judge added: « There is no way for the court to right this wrong. »

Political analyst warns Harris could lose key battleground state: ‘Almost certainly not going to win’ without

[ad_1]

Political analyst Mark Halperin argued that Vice President Kamala Harris may not win the essential battleground state of Pennsylvania and that could cost her the 2024 election. »I’ve been asking people two questions in the state, national strategists to the campaigns, one is, who is currently ahead in the race, and where does Pennsylvania rank in terms of 1-7 of the states that Harris is most likely to win, » Halperin said during a livestream on his media platform 2WAY on Wednesday.None of the strategists Halperin spoke to ranked Pennsylvania as the most likely battleground state Harris wins, and one strategist put Pennsylvania near the bottom of battleground states she was likely to win, he said. »As you can see here, this source of mine, whom I trust very much, a very smart person, put Pennsylvania sixth, the sixth most likely state for Harris to win. If that’s true and Harris loses Pennsylvania, almost certainly not going to win [the 2024 race], » he said.POLITICAL ANALYST: NEW POLLS SHOW HARRIS ‘NOT AHEAD’ OF TRUMP, CAMPAIGN SHOULD BE IN ‘SCARY PLACE’ SOONWhile it can still happen, it would be « very tough » to accomplish, he argued. That prediction was backed by two Democratic insiders Halperin spoke with on Wednesday who « know the state very well. » They believed Harris was « not only behind » but was « likely to lose the state, » he said. »They didn’t rule out that she could win it, but they thought it was unlikely. If you believe that… you can’t make her the favorite, and you almost can’t even say this race is a toss-up, » Halperin continued. CLICK HERE FOR MORE COVERAGE OF MEDIA AND CULTURE »This is the ball game, right? This is it, the question of ‘where do you get 270 electoral votes?’ » he continued. « If Harris can’t win Pennsylvania… very difficult to see what her best path is. »Pennsylvania is one of seven swing states that decided the 2020 election between former President Trump and President Biden, and that both campaigns see as the states that will determine the outcome of the 2024 presidential showdown.National polls show the race remains tight between the two candidates, with the most recent Real Clear Politics polling average showing Harris with a slim 1.9-point lead over Trump nationally. In Pennsylvania, they remain tied at 47%. The two candidates will be in the Keystone State this week, where they are set to face-off for next week’s prime time debate taking place in Philadelphia. Trump will headline a Fox News town hall on Wednesday night, and Harris plans to return to the battleground state on Thursday.Political commentator Karl Rove warned Democrats on Tuesday that the narrow lead Harris seems to have may not be enough for her to defeat Trump in November. »On this day in 2020, Joe Biden was up 7.1% above Donald Trump in the Real Clear Politics average. And at this point in 2016, Hillary Clinton was up 6.3%. As you remember, the election came down to a handful of votes in a handful of states, » Rove said in an interview on Fox News’ « America’s Newsroom. »Fox News’ Paul Steinhauser and Jeffrey Clark contributed to this article.

Katie Porter, D-Calif., which Republicans are eyeing as a possible pickup opportunity. The heavy spending in blue-leaning districts is an indication that GOP groups are starting to feel bullish again about their chances of keeping and potentially expanding their majority. It comes as Republicans in the House and Senate battle a wave of donor enthusiasm from the left for Vice President Kamala Harris’ still-new campaign.Weeks earlier, Rep. [ad_1]

Dallas Cowboys defensive end DeMarcus Lawrence said he wasted money at a disastrous pace early in his NFL career. Lawrence opened up about his past financial struggles during an appearance on the « Level Up Lifestyle » podcast this week, vividly remembering the moment he realized he was broke. « The end of my third year, I go completely broke. I get that phone call from my accountant, and he’s like ‘Hey man, you don’t have no more money in your account.’ I’m like ‘What do you mean no more, you mean like zero dollars? What are you saying?’ And he’s like ‘I mean like negative $100,’ » Lawrence said. CLICK HERE FOR MORE SPORTS COVERAGE ON FOXNEWS.COMThe Cowboys drafted Lawrence in the second round of the 2014 NFL Draft out of Boise State. A van narrowly avoided an oncoming train in Virginia during an incident that is being described as a « miracle. » Video of the close encounter captured by Bob Brown in South Boston shows a van with the Pepsi logo accelerating across the tracks just moments before the train passes through. « It was a miracle that he made it, » Brown told The Gazette-Virginian newspaper, which reported that the driver, identified as 53-year-old Tommy Cobbs of Danville, escaped injury. Cobbs has since been charged with failure to obey signs and markings, the newspaper added, citing the Virginia State Police. CAR CRASHES THROUGH ARIZONA HOME AS COUPLE WAS ABOUT TO SIT FOR DINNER The video, which was taken on July 13, begins with the van braking as it heads toward a lowered railroad crossing gate. However, the van plows through the gate and comes to a stop right before the tracks, as the train can be seen approaching in the distance with its horns blaring. The driver then backs up and appears to hit the gate a second time before the vehicle starts to move forward again. TODDLER KILLED IN OCEAN CITY, MARYLAND TRAM CRASH WHILE CROSSING BOARDWALK Just before it appears that the train will strike the van, a quick burst of acceleration allows the vehicle to get to the other side of the tracks safely. The train eventually comes to a stop shortly following the incident. The incident caused about $2,000 in damage to the crossing gate, according to The Gazette-Virginian. « Based on the speed of the train and the speed of the van, I thought we were going to see crumpled metal or worse, but he made it, » Brown said.

New Harry Potter-named malware strikes, revealing global espionage campaign

[ad_1]

A new malware has been detected by security researchers that is suspected of conducting espionage. Hackers infect devices by impersonating government agencies, usually tax agencies such as the Internal Revenue Service (IRS). Once the malicious software is on a PC, it can gather intelligence (collecting personal data, passwords and more), download additional malicious software and upload data to the hacker’s server. It does all this while using Google Sheets to avoid suspicion and store data.GET SECURITY ALERTS, EXPERT TIPS – SIGN UP FOR KURT’S NEWSLETTER – THE CYBERGUY REPORT HEREThe hackers behind the malware, called « Voldemort, » have cleverly designed it to avoid getting caught. Just like the name Voldemort spelled trouble in J.K. Rowling’s Harry Potter series, it’s causing issues in the cybersecurity world, too.The cyberattack kicks off when you receive an email that looks like it’s from a government tax agency. According to Proofpoint, the hackers behind this campaign have been impersonating tax agencies in various countries, including the U.S. (IRS), the U.K. (HM Revenue & Customs), France (Direction Générale des Finances Publiques), Germany (Bundeszentralamt für Steuern), Italy (Agenzia delle Entrate) and, as of Aug. 19, India (Income Tax Department) and Japan (National Tax Agency). Each email lure was customized and written in the language of the tax authority being impersonated.Proofpoint analysts found that the hackers tailored their phishing emails to match the target’s country of residence based on publicly available information rather than the organization’s location or the language suggested by the email address. For example, some targets in a European organization received emails impersonating the IRS because they were linked to the U.S. in public records. In some cases, the hackers mixed up the country of residence when the target shared a name with a more prominent individual. The email also tries to mimic the email of the government agency. For example, the U.S. folks were sent fake emails using « no_reply_irs[.]gov@amecaindustrial[.]com. »In the fake email, hackers impersonating the government warn you about changes in the tax rates and tax systems and ask you to click a link to read a detailed guide. This method gives the malware a reliable way to communicate without raising suspicion since Google Sheets is widely used in businesses, making it hard for security tools to block it.HOW TO RECOGNIZE AND AVOID BEING A VICTIM OF VACATION RENTAL SCAMSHackers are releasing increasingly sophisticated malware, but that doesn’t mean you’re defenseless. Below are some tips to help protect yourself from such attacks.1) Read sensitive emails carefully: The best way to spot fake emails that deliver malware is to check them carefully. While hackers may be tech-savvy, their language skills often aren’t perfect. For example, in the screenshots above, you can see typos like « Taxplayers » instead of « Taxpayers. » Government agencies don’t usually make these kinds of mistakes.2) Check email domain: Verify that the email domain matches the organization it claims to represent. For example, an email from the IRS should come from an address ending in « @irs.gov. » Be cautious of slight misspellings or variations in the domain.3) Invest in data removal services: Hackers target you based on your publicly available information. That could be anything from your leaked info through a data breach to the information you provided to an e-commerce shop. Check out my top picks for data removal services here.4) Have strong antivirus software: If you have strong antivirus software installed on your device, it can protect you when you receive these types of scam emails or accidentally open the attachment or click a link. The best way to protect yourself from clicking malicious links that install malware that may get access to your private information is to have antivirus protection installed on all your devices. McCarthy’s ‘final struggles’ threaten to haunt Johnson’s government shutdown fight

[ad_1]

Roughly 11 months have passed since former House Speaker Kevin McCarthy’s historic ouster in October 2023. Now, his successor, House Speaker Mike Johnson, R-La., is navigating the same fraught political web on government funding that amounted to one of McCarthy’s « final struggles » – but it is not yet clear that he will meet the same fate.House Republicans are huddling for a conference-wide call on Wednesday, when Johnson is expected to roll out his plan for avoiding a government shutdown by the end of the fiscal year on Sept. 30. The plan, endorsed by former President Donald Trump, would extend the current fiscal year’s government funding levels through March and would be paired with a GOP bill requiring proof of citizenship to be part of the voter registration process, multiple sources told Fox News Digital. However, at least three House Republicans who spoke with Fox News Digital would not commit to voting for such a short-term bill, known as a continuing resolution (CR). Meanwhile, others questioned the wisdom of spending the few weeks in session before Election Day on a bill virtually certain to die in the Democrat-controlled Senate.HARRIS WAS ‘OPEN’ TO PACKING SUPREME COURT DURING 2019 PRESIDENTIAL BIDMost conservatives and Trump allies in the House, however, have emphatically backed the plan. »Certainly conservatives, spending hawks, frankly any Republican that doesn’t want to give Democrats or the kind of…uniparty the pen in December, so we want to kick spending into the new year, » Rep. Chip Roy, R-Texas, explained to Fox News Digital. « Certainly kicking it to March gives us that benefit. And then we should have a robust fight over whether or not we should be very clear that only citizens are voting. »Five Democrats voted with Republicans earlier this year to pass the Safeguard American Voter Eligibility (SAVE) Act, but it has since been stalled in the Senate. The White House is also opposed.Roy, however, was also part of last year’s doomed effort to pass a conservative CR with House Republicans’ marquee border security bill attached – one that was similarly panned by Democratic leaders. HARRIS CAMPAIGN MANAGER IGNORES PRESS CONFERENCE QUESTION AS VP HITS 33 DAYS WITHOUT ONEThat CR failed in late September after 21 Republicans, mainly opposed to a CR on principle, voted against it. McCarthy was then forced to put a « clean » funding extension on the House floor hours before a partial government shutdown on Oct. 1, which was later the public catalyst for his ouster by eight fellow House Republicans. When asked whether he was concerned about history repeating itself, Roy said, « Last year, I had good friends that fell on both sides of that divide. But I think there’s one considerable difference, and that is President Trump has publicly called for us to fight. »Trump urged House Republicans to leverage a shutdown to get a CR with the SAVE Act passed on Monica Crowley’s podcast earlier this week.Additionally, with the November House races expected to run close in many key districts, these weeks could be Republicans’ last chance to try to force through conservative priorities before Democrats possibly win back control of the chamber. However, with the slim chances of it being taken up by the Senate or White House, the possibility of a government shutdown just before Election Day could put those same vulnerable Republicans in a tight spot. »Whether it passes the House or not is irrelevant and those who are pushing for SAVE to be included know that. Or maybe they don’t. I’m not sure which is worse, » one senior House GOP aide told Fox News Digital. HARRIS CAMPAIGN MANAGER IGNORES PRESS CONFERENCE QUESTION AS VP HITS 33 DAYS WITHOUT ONEHowever, Roy suggested he was not worried about a potential shutdown, arguing his constituents « don’t give two flying s—s » about the politics of government funding.Rep. Tim Burchett, R-Tenn., similarly said, « I’m worried about a stolen election…the legacy media makes these shutdowns worse than they are. »Meanwhile, like last year’s conservative CR, it is not clear this spending patch will even have enough support within the GOP to pass.Rep. Matt Rosendale, R-Mont., a House Freedom Caucus member in his final term who voted both against last year’s conservative CR and for McCarthy’s ouster, is already against the plan. »It’s disingenuous and dishonest to even do, because there’s no one in Congress that believes that by attaching the SAVE act to the CR…we’re going to get the SAVE Act passed, » Rosendale, who has never supported a CR, told Fox News Digital. He also said the play violates House GOP leaders’ pledge for single-subject legislation. However, he would not say if he would support ousting Johnson over it. »I think people keep doing the same thing, hoping they will have different results, because there’s different people doing it, » Rosendale said. When pressed on Johnson multiple times, Rosendale said, « There’s plenty of people that you can go, they’re more than glad to make comments about other members and about leadership. All I know is what I’m going to do. »Burchett, another anti-McCarthy rebel, said he would « lean towards supporting » the CR but would not commit. He said, however, that Johnson was not in danger of being ousted, adding, « A lot of other things went on » before « one of the final struggles » about spending in McCarthy’s case.McCarthy did not make himself available for an interview when asked by Fox News Digital. Johnson’s office also would not comment on the record about the CR.

Would Reagan be welcome in today’s GOP? Actor Dennis Quaid, locals from his hometown offer mixed views

[ad_1]

DIXON, ILL. – Locals who live in the late president’s hometown were mixed on whether Ronald Reagan would still be welcome in today’s Republican Party at the premiere of the movie « Reagan » in Dixon, Ill.  Most political observers would argue today’s MAGA movement looks and sounds different from the party that once consisted of traditional Reagan conservatives. But actor Dennis Quaid, who stars as Reagan in the new biopic, didn’t hesitate when asked if he’d be embraced as the head of the party in 2024. »Reagan would be the head of the Republican Party these days, there’s no doubt about that, » Quaid told Fox News Digital on the front porch of President Reagan’s boyhood home. « This country yearns for it, in a sense. He was a man of his times, as well. And I think those principles are still there in the Republican Party of today. » DENNIS QUAID THRILLS LOCALS IN DIXON, ILL., FOR ‘REAGAN’ PREMIERE, SAYS HOLLYWOOD ‘FORGOT’ ABOUT SMALL TOWNSLocals in Dixon offered more mixed reactions about Reagan’s presence in today’s GOP as they waited in line for the premiere of « Reagan » at The Dixon: Historic Theatre on August 22, hosted by Young America’s Foundation, with some saying both his policies and his temperament would be at odds with the modern movement.  « I think they’ve gone way off on the far-right fringe, » Kevin Strock from Sterling, Ill., said of the party’s changing policies. « Reagan was a moderate. I don’t think he’d be welcomed. » Some analysts say former President Trump and Reagan were at least alike in their populist theories. But several others have pointed out stark dissimilarities. There are some, like author Edwin G. Oswald, who have claimed « Reagan would not be welcomed in today’s GOP, » arguing his policies on immigration were « far more liberal than those of today’s GOP. » Reagan signed into law the Immigration Reform and Control Act of 1986, which granted amnesty to 3 million illegal immigrants. In recent years during Trump’s rise, more Republicans have spoken out against providing pathways to citizenship for illegal immigrants and placed renewed emphasis on border control and preventing illegal immigration in the first place. The Wall Street Journal’s John Lehman focused more on temperaments when he wrote, « Reagan Would Never Vote for Trump. » « Reagan’s 11th Commandment was ‘Thou shalt not speak ill of another Republican,’ but Donald Trump is no heir to Reagan’s legacy. He is an insult to it, » Lehman said. « The Reagan I knew would be appalled that someone as unfit as Mr. Trump had become the GOP’s standard-bearer. Reagan would also deeply oppose President Biden’s agenda, and he never trusted or cared much for then-Sen. Biden. » Several attendees at the « Reagan » premiere praised him for his integrity, morals, and his ability to « agree to disagree, » suggesting no current presidential candidate shares those qualities and that today’s politicians are more interested in tearing each other down. »He probably would not be, unfortunately, » one local man said when asked if Reagan would fit in today’s Republican Party. DENNIS QUAID NEARLY REJECTED ‘REAGAN’ ROLE UNTIL ONE THING CONVINCED HIM TO DO ITBut a few, like Quaid, believed that 40 would still be welcome as the leader of the party. He and Dwight D. Eisenhower are the only Republicans since World War II who won consecutive terms while winning a majority of the popular vote both times. »I do, » Sara Ortgiesen from Dixon, who marched in Reagan’s inaugural parade, said. « I personally do. I think he’d know how to do it. He was an actor too, » she laughed. « Oh I think so, » Becky Anderson from Rock Falls, Ill., similarly told Fox News Digital ahead of viewing « Reagan. » « I think most true Republicans look to Ronald Reagan as their model of what a Republican truly is. » The compare/contrast sheds light on the leaders’ policies. Trump recently slammed Vice President Kamala Harris’ plan to ban price gouging as « socialist, » calling her « Comrade Kamala. » Quaid weighed in on what he thought Reagan would say about Harris’ economic agenda.    TRUMP ASSASSINATION ATTEMPT STIRS MEMORIES OF SIMILAR ATTACK ON REAGAN »Well, as far as price controls, I know Reagan wouldn’t have gone for that, because he believed in free market. It’ll find its own way, » Quaid said. « Reagan won the Cold War, » Quaid said. « Reagan also testified communists are trying to take over the unions in Hollywood, not just the actors union, but the set builders union and cameras union and writers, everything and make it all one thing. And they had to go through the actors union first, of course, that was the hardest. » »And Reagan fought that at the time, » Quaid continued. « And when he testified before Congress, he said that we ought to, as a nation, just go ahead and allow the Communist Party to come into the country and let them say their ideas and everything else because democracy can handle it. And it would sort itself out. Because people would see the common sense in things. He believed in common sense. »Reagan and Trump also stunned their respective political worlds with their presidential victories in 1980 and 2016, which are both widely considered elections that realigned the political landscape. One alarming thing Reagan and Trump have in common that can’t be disputed: both men survived assassination attempts. Quaid and voters shared their sobering feelings on the political violence that nearly claimed their lives. »Well, I had the same reaction that I had when Reagan was shot, » Quaid said. « Thank God he survived it. Because the first thing I thought when Reagan got shot was remembering when Kennedy got shot, and it crippled our nation’s spirit for some decades. It was Ronald Reagan who kind of actually brought that spirit back. » « Reagan » is out in theaters now. Fox News Digital’s Kendall Tietz contributed to this report.

Sepsis a top killer in US behind heart disease, cancer: What to know, how to avoid the condition

[ad_1]

« Real Housewives of Orange County » star Vicki Gunvalson, 62, is sharing her recent health scare after she was hospitalized with sepsis, a potentially deadly disease that results from the body’s response to an infection. »This entire health scare came unannounced — with no warning, » Gunvalson told Fox News Digital. As Sepsis Awareness Month kicks off this September, Gunvalson’s timely story is helping to raise awareness of the illness.‘REAL HOUSEWIVES’ STAR DETAILS ‘DEADLY’ INFECTION SHE BATTLED THAT HAD ’10 TO 20 PERCENT SURVIVAL’ RATE »Sepsis awareness can and does save lives, yet only 65% of American adults have ever heard of it, » Selena A. Gilles, clinical professor and associate dean at New York University Rory Meyers College of Nursing, told Fox News Digital.  Gilles is on the advisory board of the Sepsis Alliance, a California-based organization that works across the country to decrease suffering from sepsis. « Prompt recognition and treatment can be of great importance in preventing significant illness and even mortality, » Dr. Aaron Glatt, chief of infectious diseases at Mount Sinai South Nassau Hospital on Long Island, New York, told Fox News Digital. Gunvalson shared the details of her sepsis diagnosis with Fox News Digital. »Two weeks ago, when I was heading to my office, I was very delirious and unclear on where I was going, » Gunvalson said via email.OHIO WOMAN WHO LOST ALL FOUR LIMBS TO FLU COMPLICATIONS SPEAKS OUT TO RAISE AWARENESS « Once I got into the office, my staff realized I was not acting normal, » she went on. « My assistant thought that I was possibly having a stroke. »The emergency room diagnosed Gunvalson with a « sinus disease » and sent her home, but by the next morning, she was « extremely incoherent » — so her boyfriend took her back to the hospital. »I was admitted for six days with sepsis and pneumonia, » she said. Gunvalson was treated with a course of antibiotics and is now recovering at home, while staying in regular contact with the sepsis team at the hospital. OHIO WOMAN WHO LOST ALL FOUR LIMBS TO FLU COMPLICATIONS SPEAKS OUT TO RAISE AWARENESSThe reality TV star has experienced some memory loss and difficulty concentrating, but said she hopes the « brain fog » will improve over time.In retrospect, the sepsis may have stemmed from a sinus infection two months ago that was treated by multiple rounds of antibiotics, Gunvalson said.Common symptoms of sepsis include fever, chills, rapid heart rate, confusion, shortness of breath, extreme pain, and clammy or sweaty skin, according to Gilles.A high fever – especially in those who are at increased risk of infection and are feeling extremely unwell – should warrant seeking medical attention as soon as possible, Glatt added. »Fatigue and lethargy in the setting of infection can be a sign of pneumonia and potential sepsis, even without overt pulmonary symptoms, » Dr. Marc Siegel, Fox News’ senior medical analyst and clinical professor of medicine at NYU Langone Medical Center, told Fox News Digital. NEW SURGICAL TECHNOLOGY CAN ‘LIGHT UP’ BACTERIA IN WOUNDS, HELPING TO PREVENT INFECTIONSAs sepsis can start within hours, Gilles suggested following the acronym « TIME » to remember that time is of the essence when it comes to seeking treatment.T – Temperature (higher or lower than normal)I – Infection (know the signs and symptoms)M – Mental decline (confusion, sleepiness and difficulty awakening)E – Extremely ill (severe pain, discomfort and shortness of breath)Approximately 1.7 million adults are diagnosed with sepsis every year in the U.S., according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).The illness kills 350,000 American adults each year and is a leading cause of death in U.S. hospitals, Gilles noted. It is the third-leading killer behind heart disease, which takes just over 700,000 lives each year, and cancer, which causes more than 600,000 annual deaths, per CDC data. »Sepsis takes a life every 90 seconds — that’s more lives than opioids, breast cancer, prostate cancer and stroke combined, » she said. Many people mistakenly assume that sepsis is an infection. »Sepsis is the body’s overwhelming and life-threatening response to infection, which can lead to tissue damage, organ failure and death, » Gilles said. The condition can come after any infection — whether just a scrape or cut, a dental procedure or surgery, or even a [bacteria], fungus or parasite — triggers a « chain reaction » in the body, the doctor added.Another common myth is that sepsis only occurs in those who are (or were recently) hospitalized. Most cases of sepsis, around 87%, start before a patient enters the hospital, Gilles said.AFTER LOSING HER LEG TO THE FLU, VIRGINIA WOMAN URGES PEOPLE TO GET VACCINATED: ‘DON’T WASTE TIME’ »Community-acquired infections, such as urinary tract infections, pneumonia and even simple cuts or scrapes can lead to sepsis if not treated properly, » Gilles noted. Many people also think sepsis only affects immunocompromised people. »Sepsis can strike almost anyone at almost any time, » Glatt said. »While certain individuals are at higher risk of getting a severe infection that can even be deadly, serious infections can strike even a perfectly healthy young person with rare but potentially fatal consequences, » he went on.Older adults, infants and those with chronic illnesses or weakened immune systems are at a higher risk, however. The first step is discovering the underlying cause of the infection, according to the CDC.Sepsis often starts in the gastrointestinal tract, lungs, skin or urinary tract.Treatment will vary based on the underlying infection, but often involves administering antibiotics as soon as possible. »While antibiotics are crucial for treating an underlying bacterial infection, managing sepsis often requires a comprehensive approach — including fluids, medications to support blood pressure, and sometimes surgery or [a ventilator], depending on the severity, » said Gilles.CLICK HERE JESSE WATTERS: No one is really voting for Kamala Harris

[ad_1]

Fox News host Jesse Watters argues Vice President Kamala Harris and her running mate Tim Walz are cogs in the Democratic Party machine Tuesday on « Jesse Watters Primetime. »ELON MUSK, RFK JR. CLAIM KAMALA HARRIS WANTS TO SHUT DOWN X UNLESS SITE CONFORMS TO GOVERNMENT OVERSIGHTJESSE WATTERS: Actress Kamala Harris pretending to take important phone calls so she doesn’t have to answer important questions from reporters. « Madam Vice President, do you still support reparations? Sorry, I’m on a call. »How do we know no one was on the other end of the line? Well, when your earbuds are in, you don’t have to hold the phone to your ear. This phony campaign looks the same no matter who’s on the ticket. Here’s Tim Walz. « What do you think about dead American hostages. Guys, I got a milkshake. It’s going to melt. I got to go. » Here’s how different these campaigns are. Trump-Vance: 34 interviews since last month. Harris-Walz: oneColumnist, J. Peder Zane says Kamala Harris is just a cog in the Democrats machine. We shouldn’t be fixated, really, on what Kamala knows or believes. No one’s really voting for Harris. Democrats are voting for the party, not the face of the party. So when President Biden’s turned to craggy, she was tapped as a more youthful, attractive spokesmodel. Like Biden, her vacuity is her appeal. She’s another empty vessel the Democrats’ marketing whizzes can fill with blithe slogans. Democrats don’t want decisive leaders who guide the nation. They don’t want a president with vision. They want someone they can control.  The name on the ballot is largely irrelevant. Kamala’s own thoughts are largely irrelevant. Her lack of insight and conviction is a plus. She won’t be able to push back on anything the machine wants, like wars or profits or censorship.

Texans’ Stefon Diggs says he ‘was in the worst mental space’ last year leading up to breakup with Bills

[ad_1]

Sometimes, a change of scenery can make a world of difference — especially for NFL stars. Two-time All-Pro Stefon Diggs appeared to be a player who could benefit from some new surroundings heading into the 2024 season. Although he agreed to a four-year, $96 million contract extension with the Buffalo Bills in 2022, Diggs soon appeared to grow unhappy with his situation in Western New York. It eventually became obvious that the Bills and Diggs were headed toward a divorce. The standout wide receiver is now breaking his silence on how his breakup with the Bills came to fruition.CLICK HERE FOR MORE SPORTS COVERAGE ON FOXNEWS.COM »Last year, I was in the worst mental space I’ve been in since I’ve been in the league, » Diggs told GQ Sports. « If I’m not in a good space, obviously that’s not the best for me. So that’s when things had to start shaking out. »BILLS BRASS EXPLAINS HOW ‘ALBATROSS’ CONTRACT LED TO DECISION TO MOVE ON FROM STEFON DIGGSDiggs’ 2023 campaign got off to a promising start. He recorded at least 100 receiving yards in five of the first six games of the season, but he ended the year on a much more pedestrian pace. Diggs only managed to surpass the 80 yards receiving mark on two occasions over the last 11 weeks of the regular season. The Bills defeated the Pittsburgh Steelers in the wild-card round, before falling to the eventually Super Bowl champion Kansas City Chiefs in the divisional round. Diggs finished the game against the Steelers with 52 receiving yards, but only managed to haul in one catch for 7 yards in the divisional round.Diggs pointed to the Bills’ performance down the stretch last season when he spoke about his eventual departure. »The games looked a lot different, » Diggs said. « You can blame me. I don’t mind blaming me. I got big a– shoulders. But pay attention, pay real close attention. Watch the game. Of course there’s plenty of plays I want back. But there’s a lot of plays that didn’t go my way. »Diggs continued to question what contributed to the drop in production as the season went on. »I need a lot of things to go right to get the ball … You can’t roll out of bed and get 800 yards in the first eight games. Your best receiver’s doing that. You tell me about the last 10. What changed? Were there changes going on? I just pay attention to what really happened and not what people try to act like happened. Like, for the last 10 games, I forgot how to f—-ng play football? »Wide receiver Gabe Davis also left the Bills this offseason as the 25-year-old signed with the Jacksonville Jaguars. But the Bills front office sign veteran pass catchers Curtis Samuel and Marquez Valdes-Scantling.In April, Buffalo drafted former Florida State wide receiver Keon Coleman in the second round. »I would say our receiver room right now is like Baskin-Robbins, » Bills general manager Brandon Beane joked. « We got a lot of flavors. »Follow Fox News Digital’s sports coverage on X, and subscribe to the Fox News Sports Huddle newsletter.

Man stabbed Massachusetts girlfriend 10 times in face, neck before leaving body at airport, prosecutors say

[ad_1]

A fugitive who escaped a police station in Kenya after being arrested over allegations that he killed his girlfriend and left her body in a car at Boston’s Logan airport last year pleaded not guilty to murder charges and was ordered held without bail.Kevin Adam Kinyanjui Kangethe, 40, was wanted for allegedly killing his girlfriend, Margaret Mbitu, whose body was found in an SUV at Boston Logan International Airport on Oct. 31, 2023.At the Suffolk Superior Court in Boston, Mbitu’s family and friends issued a statement following the judge’s rule. »It has been a long journey coming. Today gives us hope and represents a step forward toward justice, » Mary Kinyariro, a cousin, announced, sharing the family’s statement. « We will continue to fight until this coward is locked up and never sees light again or gets to harm any other family and take their loved one away from them. »FUGITIVE ACCUSED OF KILLING MASSACHUSETTS GIRLFRIEND IS RE-ARRESTED IN KENYA AFTER ESCAPING POLICE CUSTODYSuffolk County District Attorney Kevin Hayden said this was « just the beginning of a long road to justice » for Mbitu and her family. »She was deeply loved, she was a caregiver, a nurse beloved by every patient that she served, a beautiful soul and a wonderful daughter and a loving sister, » Hayden said.Prosecutors on Tuesday shared new details surrounding Mbitu’s death, saying that Kangethe « brutally attacked » her in the car with a knife.EX-MASSACHUSETTS OFFICER ALLEGEDLY MURDERED PREGNANT WOMAN HE GROOMED AS TEEN, STAGED IT TO LOOK LIKE SUICIDEThe attack left 10 wounds to her face and neck, prosecutors said.Mbitu was found in a parked car at Logan International Airport following her brutal murder, prosecutors previously said. 45 days: Kamala Harris has yet to do formal press conference since emerging as Democratic nominee

[ad_1]

Vice President Kamala Harris’ interview drought finally ended Thursday, but after 45 days as the presumptive and now official Democratic nominee for president, she has yet to hold an official press conference.Under pressure to sit down for a substantive interview after weeks of stonewalling, she agreed to a sit-down with CNN’s Dana Bash last Thursday in Georgia, joined by running mate Tim Walz.Harris defended some of her noted policy flip-flops on issues like fracking and immigration, saying her « values » hadn’t changed. She was also pressed on whether she had regrets about defending President Biden’s mental acuity after his debate, given he dropped out of the race less than a month later. She also said she wanted to « turn the page on the last decade of what I believe has been contrary to where the spirit of our country really lies. »Bash pointed out Harris had been vice president for three-and-a-half of those years, but Harris countered she meant moving on from this « era, » seemingly referring to the political rise of Donald Trump that began in 2015.HARRIS CLAIMS SHE ‘MADE CLEAR’ HER POSITION ON FRACKING IN 2020 – TRANSCRIPT SHOWS ANOTHER STORYFollowing Harris’ first sit-down interview, NBC News Washington correspondent Yamiche Alcindor, who is known for her glowing Biden-Harris coverage, appeared unimpressed. « Harris keeps saying ‘my values haven’t changed’ while not explaining why her positions have changed, » Alcindor wrote. As to when she’ll actually do a formal press conference, that day may never come. Sunday marked exactly six weeks since Biden dropped out of the race and endorsed Harris; no other Democrat challenged her and she quickly wrapped up the nomination from there. »You will not see one press conference from her in the next 75 days until Election Day, » Fox News contributor Joe Concha predicted earlier this month.NewsBusters managing editor Curtis Houck feels the vice president « obviously owes it to the American people to hold free-wheeling press conferences where reporters can, unlike what happened [Thursday] with CNN’s Dana Bash, ask follow-up questions. » »For every softball from, say, ABC or NPR, you’ll hope a liberal journalist will show some courage to do the right thing, » Houck told Fox News Digital. « The interview itself had a positive atmosphere. From the get-go in the hype video-like opening by Bash, CNN put forward a perception that this was an event, not a grinding fact-finding mission, » Houck continued. « She missed a litany of topics with Harris. Allowing death row inmates to vote, closing ICE, defunding the police, ending private insurance, girl’s sports, the filibuster, Jussie Smollett, the Minneapolis bail fund, systemic racism… those were just a few of the areas she could have touched on. »Former President Trump has sought to highlight the contrast in media availability between the two, sitting for several lengthy interviews in recent weeks and also holding a pair of press conferences.Harris received mixed reviews for her showing on Thursday with Bash, where she took the majority of the questions but nevertheless had Walz there for support. One point that received praise from liberals was her pointed dismissal of a question about Trump’s suggestion that she didn’t embrace being Black until adulthood. Calling attacks around race from Trump a tired « playbook, » she told Bash to move on to the next question. But conservative CNN commentator Scott Jennings said the Trump campaign should be « salivating » over one of the revelations from the interview, which appeared to be her embrace of so-called « Bidenomics. » »She is making it clear that she will embrace and be a continuation of Biden’s economic policy — his record — what they’ve done, » he said. « She offered no remorse, no regrets, no introspection about anything they’ve done. »HUCKABEE SANDERS BLASTS HARRIS FOR DOING JOINT INTERVIEW WITH WALZ: CAN’T DO IT ‘BY HERSELF’By doing the interview, Harris met the bar she set three weeks ago that she wanted to schedule one by the end of the month. Whether pressure will grow for her to do more, and also her first solo interview as a candidate, remains to be seen. »My fear is, because Bash wasn’t like, say, CBS’s Steve Kroft or NPR’s Steve Inskeep salivating at the sight of Barack Obama, the liberal media will claim this and the upcoming ABC debate are sufficient interview time for the campaign, » Houck said.Fox News Digital’s Paul Steinhauser contributed to this report.

North Korea’s Kim Jong Un reportedly ordered dozens of officials executed after deadly floods

[ad_1]

North Korean dictator Kim Jong Un may have ordered at least 30 government officials to be executed after the devastating floods over the summer that killed thousands, according to a new report from South Korea. The South’s TV Chosun reported Tuesday that North Korean authorities sentenced between 20 and 30 people to capital punishment last month for their failure to stop the deadly flooding. An official was quoted as telling the outlet, « Twenty to 30 cadres in the flood-stricken area were executed at the same time late last month. » While it’s difficult to know the details given the North’s extreme secrecy, the North Korean Central News Agency (KCNA) has reported that Kim ordered authorities to « strictly punish » the officials after catastrophic floods hit the Chagang Province, near the border with China, in July. FRIENDLY RELATIONSHIP WITH KIM JONG UN IS ‘NOT A BAD THING,’ TRUMP SAYSNorth Korean state media reported that heavy rains in late July left more than 4,000 homes as well as numerous other public buildings, structures, roads and railways flooded in the northwestern city of Sinuiju and the neighboring town of Uiju.Kim blamed public officials who had neglected disaster prevention for causing « the casualty that cannot be allowed. »The North has rebuffed offers of aid from China, Russia and even South Korea, with whom tensions remain at all-time highs. Kim made a two-day tour of Uiju in early August to meet flood victims and discuss recovery efforts. While touring there, Kim was quoted by KCNA as accusing the South of exaggerating the extent of the damage from the floods, decrying it as a « smear campaign » and a « grave provocation » against his government. The Associated Press contributed to this report.
