Ravens’ Isaiah Likely shouts profanities at heckling fan after overturned touchdown results in brutal loss

[ad_1]

Baltimore Ravens tight end Isaiah Likely left Kansas City Chiefs fans with some choice words after Thursday night’s gut-wrenching loss. Video circulating on social media captured Likely walking through the tunnel back toward the locker room moments after his game-tying touchdown was overturned, handing the Chiefs a 27-20 win. Fans could be heard heckling the third-year NFL player. One person could be heard yelling, « You stink. »CLICK HERE FOR MORE SPORTS COVERAGE ON FOXNEWS.COMLooking above, Likely responded « F— you, b—-. »Social media users responded to the video trolling Likely further. « That’s twice he’s been over the line today…, » one person posted on X. « He didn’t toe the line with that comment, » another wrote. RAVENS ROASTED BY X’S COMMUNITY NOTES WITH BRUTAL ONE-LINER AFTER ISAIAH LIKELY’S OVERTURNED TOUCHDOWNLikely’s frustrations came after Ravens quarterback Lamar Jackson found him in the back of the end zone as time expired. The team broke out into celebrations, but referee Shawn Hochuli reviewed the play and found that Likely was out of bounds. »At this point, you just have to live with the call, » he said after the game. « You have to look on, obviously watch the film, see where we can get better to not put ourselves in the situation to leave it in the refs’ hands to be able to call that and call the game. All I’ll say is [we just have to] watch the film and see what we can improve on and go onto next week. »Despite the optics of his tunnel interaction, Likely did take ownership after the game. « That’s on me. I just have to get both feet in. I harp on myself to catch everything and make sure everybody puts us in the best possibility, so I take responsibility. Next time, I’m going to get my feet down. »Follow Fox News Digital’s sports coverage on X, and subscribe to the Fox News Sports Huddle newsletter.

Experts warn Iran could have a nuclear bomb before the next president takes office

[ad_1]

Iran is closer to becoming a nuclear-armed power than much of the world realizes, according to a nonpartisan research group’s new report. The Foundation for Defense of Democracies (FDD) claims Iran could have a nuclear bomb before the presidential election, and suggests U.S. troops need to be deployed to the region immediately to counter such an outcome. The FDD published a strategic plan, « Deterring Iran’s Dash to a Nuclear Bomb, » with two dozen specific recommendations they say the Biden administration needs to quickly change the tides on Iran’s nuclear capabilities. « Unless the Biden-Harris administration takes robust steps now to deter and hinder those advances, Iran could complete a crude nuclear bomb before the next U.S. president is inaugurated, » the plan’s co-author, Orde Kittrie, said. The report demanded the Biden administration declassify all intelligence assessments related to Iran’s nuclear program to build up domestic and international pressure to deter Iran. It also called for putting U.S. boots on the ground, « at least on a temporary basis, » to send a message that the U.S. is prepared to stop an Iranian nuclear breakout if necessary. The group warned that while most U.S. officials are monitoring Iran’s capacity to enrich uranium to 90%, the regime is taking other, covert steps toward a nuclear weapon, like taking measures toward building a nuclear explosive device that would make quick work of putting a bomb together. « It’s undertaking other advances which would make an eventual sprint to cross that line faster and much harder to stop, » Kittrie said.  GRAHAM WARNS IRAN COULD ‘SPRINT TO A NUCLEAR WEAPON’ On July 19, Secretary of State Antony Blinken warned that it would take « one to two weeks » to produce sufficient weapons-grade uranium for one nuclear weapon. « I think Americans should be very, very worried, because Iran is a vicious, bloodthirsty regime, and here they are on the verge of acquiring the world’s most powerful weapon. » It may be impossible for western nations to detect when Iran is in its final stages of building a nuclear bomb as much of the activity occurs in hidden, underground facilities, according to the report.BIDEN ADMIN NEEDS ‘MORE AGGRESSIVE’ PLAN TO TAKE ON IRAN-BACKED HOUTHIS, EXPERTS WARNIn addition to putting boots on the ground, the FDD is calling for President Biden to increase joint military exercises with partners in the region, lift the U.S. hold on 2,000-pound MK-84 bombs to Israel and remove any roadblocks to provide Israel with planes and munitions. The group also called on the top of the Republican and Democratic tickets, as well as Biden, to explicitly state their commitment to the use of force to prevent Iran from creating a nuclear weapon. »Biden’s strongest statement on this issue was actually weaker than Obama’s strongest statement on the same topic, » said Kittrie. « The administration keeps saying, well, a military option is on the table. But implying that a military option is on the table is not the same as stating that the option will, if necessary, be used in addition, the administration talks in terms of commitment that Iran never acquired a nuclear weapon. That leaves unclear the parameters of the undesirable result. »The FDD said the U.S. needs to « massively increase » the use of sanctions and work with nations like the United Kingdom, France, and Germany to trigger sanctions within the United Nations.

Ex-Obama adviser warns ‘it’s very possible’ Trump would win election if held today, says reporters too cocky

[ad_1]

Former senior Obama adviser Dan Pfeiffer said Thursday that polling and data experts — far more than most reporters — believe that the campaign fight between former President Trump and Vice President Kamala Harris is extremely close. « If you polled the press corps and most Democrats who are not working for the Harris-Walz campaign, 85 percent would say that Kamala Harris would win if the election were held today, » Pfeiffer said in an interview published Thursday with Puck News’ John Heilemann. Trump and Harris are locked in a tight race in the final months before election day, according to multiple national polls. A recent CNN poll found Harris holding slight leads in Michigan and Wisconsin, while Trump holds a lead in Arizona. Meanwhile, Georgia, Nevada and Pennsylvania were toss-ups.TRUMP AND HARRIS IN TOSS-UP RACES IN KEY SWING STATES PENNSYLVANIA, GEORGIA, NEVADA: POLL »If you ask the people who are actually deep in the numbers and paying really close attention to what’s happening in the battleground states, it’s closer to 50-50, » Pfeiffer said. « And I think it’s very possible that if the election were held today, Trump would win. » When asked to explain the confidence disparity, Pfeiffer said that all the battleground states, but especially Pennsylvania, are making the race between Trump and Harris difficult to call. CLICK HERE FOR MORE COVERAGE OF MEDIA AND CULTURE »When you dig into the battleground state poll numbers, they’re all toss-ups, every single one of them, » Pfeiffer said. « There’s not a single battleground state poll where one of the candidates is up or down by more than two points, and most of them are tied, or at one point. » KAMALA HARRIS HAS YET TO DO FORMAL PRESS CONFERENCE SINCE EMERGING AS DEMOCRATIC NOMINEE »And when you start doing the math of what happens if one of the candidates does not win Pennsylvania, it all gets very complicated, very quickly, » he said. Pfeiffer said that there was « no number » in the polls that would give him confidence that Harris was on track to win the battleground states. The Harris campaign directed Fox News Digital to previous comments that Harris campaign chair, Jen O’Malley Dillon, made regarding the race. « However, make no mistake: we head into the final stretch of this race as the clear underdogs, » Dillon said in a memo released on Sunday. « Donald Trump has a motivated base of support, with more support and higher favorability than he has had at any point since 2020. »

Senate GOP campaign chair ‘concerned’ over fundraising disparity but predicts who will win majority

[ad_1]

EXCLUSIVE – LAS VEGAS – Sen. Steve Daines of Montana, the chair of the Senate Republicans’ campaign committee, is making his pitch to top dollar donors and influential conservative activists in order to remedy the cash disparity between GOP campaigns and those of Democrats. »We need your help to close the fundraising gap, » the National Republican Senatorial Committee (NRSC) chair emphasized as he addressed the crowd at the Republican Jewish Coalition’s annual leadership meeting. « We have the right candidates. Let’s get them the resources they need to win. »Minutes earlier, in an interview with Fox News Digital, Daines pointed to the GOP’s fundraising gap as compared to the Democrats as Republicans aim to win back the Senate majority and acknowledged, « it’s a concern of mine. » »There are winnable races right now that we may not be able to bring across the finish line because of lack of resources. We are literally two months away from the most consequential election of my lifetime, » Daines emphasized. « That’s why we’re working very, very hard to make sure we’re ringing that alarm bell to get to donors. »REPUBLICAN AIMING TO FLIP DEMOCRAT HELD SENATE SEAT IN RED STATE MAKING GAINS Democrats have outraised and outspent their Republican counterparts in the 2024 battle for the Senate majority, and looking forward, they have dished out more money for ad reservations for the final two months leading up to Election Day on Nov. 5.Senate Democrats and outside groups supporting them have made significantly larger post-Labor Day ad reservations in four of the seven key Senate battlegrounds, per AdImpact. In Wisconsin, Nevada, Michigan and Arizona each, Democratic ad reservation spending is at least double that of their respective Republican opponents, presenting a stark obstacle for GOP candidates, some of whom already face name recognition issues and the hurdle of taking on an incumbent. HEAD HERE FOR THE LATEST FOX NEWS 2024 ELECTION POLLS Overall, Democrats have an advantage over their Republican Senate foes with nearly $348 million in planned spending in pivotal races across the country ahead of election day, compared to Republicans’ over $255 million. The relatively small GOP expenditures in Wisconsin, Nevada, Michigan and Arizona appear to be a result of massive prioritized pro-Republican Senate buys in Montana, Ohio and Pennsylvania. Republicans are managing to outspend Democrats in these states, but their opponents have still boasted similarly large planned spending. In Ohio, while Republicans had $81.9 million reserved, Democratic future spending wasn’t far behind at $78.3 million, according to AdImpact. Fueling the financial disparity, the surge in Democratic Party enthusiasm and fundraising in the month and a half since Vice President Kamala Harris replaced President Biden at the top of the party’s 2024 ticket in the White House race against former President Donald Trump. »You just saw in the last 48 hours Kamala Harris announce she’s directing $25 million of her presidential campaign dollars down-ballot including $10 million for Senate Democrats, » Daines spotlighted. « There’s not many things Kamala Harris does well but one thing she does well is raise money. So this does have us concerned. »However, Daines said there is a silver lining when it comes to Harris replacing the 81-year-old Biden in the White House race.SENATE DEMOCRATS CAMPAIGN CHAIR GOES ONE-ON-ONE WITH FOX NEWS »What it does is it helps us take the age issue off the table because that was one of the reasons that Biden did so poorly. It was more about his age than anything else, » Daines said. « This now gets us laser focused on policy. This is going to be a policy contrast election….For the first time in decades, we have the results of two different administrations to run against – President Trump’s four years and Kamala Harris’ four years. Two very different administrations – very different outcomes. That contrast, we think will be very helpful for us in the key Senate races. »Democrats control the Senate by a razor-thin 51-49 margin, and Republicans are looking at a favorable election map this year with Democrats defending 23 of the 34 seats up for grabs. One of those seats is in West Virginia, a deep red state that Trump carried by nearly 40 points in 2020. With moderate Democrat-turned-Independent Sen. Joe Manchin, a former governor, not seeking re-election, flipping the seat is nearly a sure thing for the GOP.Additionally, in Daines’ home state of Montana and in Ohio, two states Trump comfortably carried four years ago, Republicans are aiming to defeat Democratic Sens. Jon Tester and Sherrod Brown.Five more Democratic-held seats are up for grabs this year in crucial presidential-election battleground states. With Democrats trying to protect their fragile Senate majority, former GOP Gov. Larry Hogan of blue-state Maryland’s late entry into the Senate race in February gave them an unexpected headache in a state previously considered safe territory. Hogan left the governor’s office at the beginning of 2023 with very positive approval and favorable ratings.Daines, for the first time, definitely said his party would recapture the majority. »We will win the Senate majority » Daines told Fox News. »Fifty-one is the number that we want to get to. Clearly, there’s an opportunity to get beyond that, but 51 is the number we’ve got to get to, » he stressed.Get the latest updates from the 2024 campaign trail, exclusive interviews and more at our Fox News Digital election hub.

2024 Cash Dash: Harris nearly triples Trump’s fundraising last month

[ad_1]

Vice President Kamala Harris raked in a staggering $361 million in fundraising in August, her campaign announced on Friday morning, in what it touted was « the largest haul of the 2024 cycle. »The fundraising by the Democratic Party’s presidential nominee was nearly triple the $130 million that the Donald Trump campaign announced on Wednesday that the former president brought in last month.Harris has enjoyed a fundraising surge in the nearly seven weeks since she replaced President Biden at the top of the Democratic Party’s 2024 ticket.TRUMP AND HARRIS ON COLLISION COURSE AS 2024 CAMPAIGN ENTERS FINAL STRETCHThe vice president’s campaign highlighted that Harris has brought in over $615 million in fundraising since July 21, when Biden, in a blockbuster announcement, ended his re-election campaign and endorsed his running mate. The Harris campaign also touted August’s haul was « the best grassroots fundraising month in presidential history. »The vice president’s team also showcased what it called « a massive war chest, » reporting $404 million cash-on-hand as of the end of last month. That’s over $100 million more than the $295 million the Trump campaign said it had in its coffers.THE LATEST FOX NEWS POLL NUMBERS IN 4 KEY BATTLEGROUND STATESHarris’ August haul was up from the $310 million the Democratic ticket brought in during July, while Trump’s fundraising last month was slightly down from the $138.7 it raised in July. »In just a short time, Vice President Harris’ candidacy has galvanized a history-making, broad, and diverse coalition – with the type of enthusiasm, energy, and grit that wins close elections, » Harris campaign manager Julie Chavez Rodriguez said in a statement. « As we enter the final stretch of this election, we’re making sure every hard-earned dollar goes to winning over the voters who will decide this election. »The former president’s team on Wednesday, in a statement revealing its fundraising figures, said that it’s cash-on-hand ensured that it had « the resources needed to propel President Trump’s campaign to victory. »The Biden campaign and the Democratic National Committee enjoyed a fundraising lead over Trump and the Republican National Committee earlier this year. But Trump and the RNC topped Biden and the DNC by $331 million to $264 million during the April-June second quarter of 2024 fundraising.Biden enjoyed a brief fundraising surge after his disastrous performance in his late June debate with Trump, as donors briefly shelled out big bucks in a sign of support for the 81-year-old president. But Biden’s halting and shaky debate delivery also instantly fueled questions about his physical and mental abilities to serve another four years in the White House – and spurred a rising chorus of calls from within his own party for the president to end his bid for a second term. The brief surge in fundraising didn’t last and, by early July, began to significantly slow down. Fundraising, along with polling, is a key metric in campaign politics and a measure of a candidate’s popularity and their campaign’s strength. The money raised can be used – among other things – to hire staff, expand grassroots outreach and get-out-the-vote efforts, pay to produce and run ads on TV, radio, digital and mailers, and for candidate travel.Get the latest updates from the 2024 campaign trail, exclusive interviews and more at our Fox News Digital election hub.

Georgia school shooting: 5 key questions investigators are asking about accused teen killer

[ad_1]

WINDER, Ga –  A law enforcement expert discussed what Georgia agencies are lasered in on as they continue to investigate the tragic Apalachee High School shooting.Matthew Fagiana, a retired police sergeant and law enforcement consultant, told Fox News Digital that Georgia’s top law enforcement agencies are continuing to investigate Colt Gray’s motivation while simultaneously working on ways to prevent future mass shootings in the community. The suspected shooter, 14-year-old Gray, opened fire at the high school, killing 2 teachers and 2 students.COLIN GRAY, FATHER OF GEORGIA HIGH SCHOOL SHOOTING SUSPECT CHARGED WITH MURDER, MANSLAUGHTER, CHILD CRUELTYFagiana said that law enforcement is focused on the 14-year-old’s past and if he had any known interactions with the victims. »Authorities will develop a chronological history of the suspect leading up to the shooting, » he said. « And a deep look into the suspect’s past for things such as interactions with the victims, the existence of any indications of violent behavior, statements or social media posts that could help them develop a motive, and recent internet history. »The law enforcement expert said that investigative units would likely meticulously comb through Gray’s home as well as the high school. »I can only assume that the crime scene at the school is quite large, » he said. « Those types of scenes require a very meticulous examination and collection of evidence – things like logging locations of evidence, spent casings. »Fagiana said that law enforcement will likely attempt to reconstruct the scene in an attempt to reconstruct the shooter’s pathway through the school. »They’re going to reconstruct the scene and be able to show an accurate picture of the suspect’s entry and his path throughout the shooting, » he said.Fagiana said that investigators are attempting to answer what prompted the suspected shooter to open fire.GEORGIA HIGH SCHOOL SHOOTING SUSPECT CHARGED WITH FELONY MURDER: LIVE UPDATES »One important piece of the suspect being taken into custody will be the interviews he provides to investigators, » he said. « Any time we have someone who commits a mass killing, one of the most important questions we are trying to answer is the ‘why.' » »And because many school shooters either kill themselves, or are killed by law enforcement to prevent further harm to others, we are often left without the ‘why’ and can only develop theories based on their history and any evidence they leave behind, » he said.On Thursday, Colin Gray, the father of the 14-year-old suspect, was arrested and charged with second-degree murder in connection, the Georgia Bureau of Investigation (GBI) announced Thursday. In addition to two counts of second-degree murder, 54-year-old Gray was also charged with four counts of involuntary manslaughter and eight counts of cruelty to children, according to the GBI.Fagiana said law enforcement and agencies are considering what steps in the future that will help mitigate future mass shootings. »So when a suspect is taken into custody, law enforcement and experts on many levels will hope to use his statements and evaluations as a chance to mitigate the likelihood of these events happening again, » he said. « I think most people agree that individuals who commit these type of crimes have something psychologically that differs from that of most of us – people who would never consider doing something like this. »Fagiana said that a « significant » priority is how local authorities can comfort and support residents in Winder, Georgia who were faced with devastating loss. »An extremely significant priority is supporting the families of the victims right now, » he said. « They’re hurting and need answers and law enforcement will remain committed to addressing their needs throughout these next several days. »

Taylor Swift and Brittany Mahomes both cheered for the Kansas City Chiefs in their 27-20 opening night win against the Baltimore Ravens on Thursday, but they may be on different sides of other issues. Swift and Mahomes were seen sitting in separate suites at Arrowhead Stadium amid a controversy surrounding Mahomes’ recent displays of support for Donald Trump.Mahomes and Swift had a history of sitting together in suites when Swift started going to games last year after publicizing her relationship with tight end Travis Kelce. Seeing the two sit together while making quirky gestures during broadcast cutaways became a common staple of Chiefs games last season. The two were also seen at public events together as the friendship between Mahomes, the wife of quarterback Patrick Mahomes, and Swift, Kelce’s girlfriend of over one year, became symbolic for the Chiefs in broadening their fanbase among women. CLICK HERE FOR MORE SPORTS COVERAGE ON FOXNEWS.COMBut the 2024 season is off to a different start as Mahomes is embroiled in a controversy over expressing support for Trump through Instagram activity in recent weeks. Swift was seen in a suite with Kelce’s mother Donna Kelce, while Mahomes sat in a suite with her daughter, Sterling Skye, as seen in her Instagram Stories. Mahomes, a 29-year-old pregnant mother, first indicated her support for Trump on Aug. 13 when she liked Trump’s Instagram post that outlined the « 2024 GOP platform. » The like ignited a firestorm of backlash against the wife of the superstar quarterback. In fact, the critics included fans of Swift. Multiple fan pages dedicated to Swift posted the screenshots of the like on social media, spreading the reach of the backlash.Mahomes responded to the criticism on her Instagram Stories on Aug. 23. »I mean honestly, To be a hater as an adult, you have to have some deep rooted issues you refuse to heal from childhood, » she wrote. « There’s no reason your brain is fully developed and you hate to see others doing well. »She then posted another message in reference to the situation on Instagram days later. »Contrary to the tone of the world today….you can disagree with someone, and still love them. You can have differing views, and still be kind, » she wrote Aug. 26. « Read that again! »Last week she appeared to like two other comments, one that said « TRUMP-VANCE 2024 » and another that said « Glad to see you aren’t backing down. We are all entitled to our own opinions and shouldn’t be bullied into submission. » TAYLOR SWIFT ARRIVES FOR CHIEFS-RAVENS WEEK 1 OPENERMahomes’ Instagram likes and the subsquent attention caught the attention of Trump himself. The former president and current presidential candidate thanked Mahomes in a post on his Truth Social account and praised her and her husband, Kansas City Chiefs superstar Patrick Mahomes, as a « great couple. » »I want to thank beautiful Brittany Mahomes for so strongly defending me, and the fact that MAGA is the greatest and most powerful Political Movement in the History of our now Failing Country, » Trump wrote. « With Crime and Illegal Immigration totally out of control, INFLATION Ravaging all Americans, and a World that is laughing at the stupidity of our hapless « leaders, » it is nice to see someone who loves our Country, and wants to save it from DOOM. What a great couple – See you both at the Super Bowl! »Mahomes’ controversial Instagram like hasn’t seemed to drive a wedge between her and her husband. On Brittany’s 29th birthday on Aug. 31, Patrick posted a series of photos on Instagram Saturday of him and his wife, Brittany Mahomes, celebrating her 29th birthday. The slideshow included a group picture of them and their kids, 3-year-old daughter Sterling Skye and 1-year-old son Patrick « Bronze » Lavon Mahomes III. Patrick has never publicly expressed support for a political figure or affiliation and he told Time in April he would not speak about who he would vote for in the upcoming election. Brittany and Patrick were born and raisedin east Texas and started dating when they attended Whitehouse High School in Whitehouse, Texas. Whitehouse is a town with a population of about 8,500 and has a history of voting Republican, according to Data USA.However, Brittany’s connection with Swift may prove to be a different story after her recent social media activites. While Swift has not officially endorsed a candidate in the 2024 election, she has a long history of taking up political activism in support of Democrats. After Trump was first elected in 2016, Swift revealed her political stance for the first time, endorsing the Democratic candidates Phil Bredesen and Jim Cooper in the 2018 U.S. midterm elections in her family’s home state of Tennessee. Swift has also publicly supported abortion rights, LGBTQ inclusion and gun control. In 2020, Swift officially endorsed Joe Biden for president and condemned Trump’s presidency, calling it « racist » in the wake of the George Floyd murder in Minnesota. Follow Fox News Digital’s sports coverage on X, and subscribe to the Fox News Sports Huddle newsletter.

‘Alien: Romulus’ director defends AI version of dead actor’s likeness after fan backlash

[ad_1]

This story contains spoilers for « Alien: Romulus » and « Alien. »Fans of the « Alien » franchise had a few concerns about the appearance of a beloved actor brought back to life by artificial intelligence.A humanoid android (dubbed a « synthetic » in the movie) named Rook bears the likeness of the late Ian Holm, who appeared in the original 1979 « Alien. »Holm also starred as Bilbo Baggins in « The Lord of the Rings » films as well as movies like « Brazil, » « Chariots of Fire » and « The Fifth Element. » He died in 2020 at 88.Many fans reacted to his surprise appearance and were none too thrilled.WHAT IS ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE (AI)? »The fake Ian Holm in ‘Romulus’ may be a cynical attempt at using a dead man’s face and voice for the sake of nostalgia but at least it also looks terrible and can never be changed and everyone who watches it will be subjected to it for the rest of time, » one person declared on X. »Once they showed the dead CGI face I was completely taken out of it. Let the man rest, » said another. »The extent to which they use Ian Holm’s reanimated corpse in ‘Alien: Romulus’ is truly appalling » said a third.Director Fede Alvarez confirmed to the Los Angeles Times that AI was used to recreate Holm’s look.CLICK HERE TO SIGN UP FOR THE ENTERTAINMENT NEWSLETTER »We were not trying to do what can’t be done, which is to reproduce that person’s talent as an actor, because this is another character, » he told the outlet. « The only thing they have in common is the likeness. »Alvarez says he reached out to Holm’s widow, Sophie de Stempel, to ask for her input and approval. »We did it all with a lot of respect and always with the authorization of his family, his children and his widow, who said, ‘We would love to see his likeness again,’ » Alvarez said.He added, « In the last 10 years after ‘The Hobbit,’ Ian Holm felt like Hollywood had turned its back on him, and his widow felt he would have loved to be a part of this, » the director said. « He loved this character in particular. »LIKE WHAT YOU’RE READING? CLICK HERE FOR MORE ENTERTAINMENT NEWSTo recreate Holm, an animatronic that looked like the late actor was used on set and puppeteered, with British actor Daniel Betts on set reading lines for the cast and doing facial capture. Betts’ voice was later altered to sound more like Holm’s using generative AI and computer modeling, according to the L.A. Times. »We’re not bringing someone back to life and saying, ‘Ian would have done it that way,’ » Alvarez said. « He would have obviously done it differently. We had an actor who was on the set, who worked on the dialogue, who worked with the actors. It’s not like we skipped hiring an actor. »The « Evil Dead » director also noted he doesn’t believe AI will be able to replace actors in the future and that using it to create the character of Rook in Holm’s image was specific to the film. »It’s so much more expensive to do it the way we did it; it’s much cheaper to just hire an actor, » Alvarez said. « Doing it this way requires a team of so many people and so many parts to get it done that it’s never going to be really convenient. »‘BEETLEJUICE BEETLEJUICE’ STAR SAYS AI CAN’T ‘DUPLICATE’ HOLLYWOOD DIRECTOR TIM BURTON’S VISIONThe controversy over using the late Holm’s likeness comes as new legislation in California addressing actors’ likenesses, living and dead, is set to hit Gov. Gavin Newsom’s desk soon. The state Senate passed two bills in August: AB 1836, which restricts the usage of AI to create digital replicas of dead performers without the consent of their estates, and AB 2602, which increases consent requirements for living performers for AI replicas. »Both of these bills have been a legislative priority for the union on behalf of our membership and beyond, making explicit consent in California mandatory. We look forward to these bills being signed by Governor Gavin Newsom, » the actor’s guild, SAG-AFTRA, said in a statement on their website. The union has also supported new federal legislation recently re-introduced into Congress, the No Fakes Act.WATCH: SAG-AFTRA REP ON WHY THE ‘DEVASTATING’ HOLLYWOOD STRIKES LAST YEAR WERE ‘NECESSARY’The Motion Picture Association, which represents multiple major studios including Netflix, Sony, Paramount, Universal, Disney and Warner Bros., also praised the bill.SAG-AFTRA National Executive Director and Chief Negotiator Duncan Crabtree-Ireland spoke with Fox News Digital about the bill in July, saying, « [F]rom our point of view, this is absolutely crucial. The timing is now, and it’s desperately needed. »

Roquan Smith takes exception to Chiefs player who pushed him on sideline after play: ‘Better watch himself’

[ad_1]

Baltimore Ravens linebacker Roquan Smith had a warning postgame for Kansas City Chiefs tight end Peyton Hendershot after a confrontation on the sideline Thursday night at Arrowhead Stadium. During the Ravens’ loss to the Chiefs to kick off the new NFL season, there was a moment early in the fourth quarter where Kansas City’s star quarterback Patrick Mahomes was scrambling to pick up a first down. After doing so, it appeared Smith pushed Mahomes late, and the quarterback went sprawling to the turf, which led the home crowd to start going ballistic thinking a penalty should’ve been called. CLICK HERE FOR MORE SPORTS COVERAGE ON FOXNEWS.COMHowever, the yellow hankies stayed in the referee’s pockets. Smith, who was waving his hands at the moment to signal it shouldn’t be a personal foul, said Mahomes tried to sell it as a penalty. »Oh, he flopped. Yeah, he flopped, » Smith told reporters post-game. « That’s why the referees didn’t call it – it was a great no-call by the ref. »But as Smith was waving for the no-call, Hendershot, who was in street clothes as an inactive player for the Chiefs during the game, was seen taking exception to Smith’s actions on his quarterback. CHIEFS TAKE DOWN RAVENS AS HUNT FOR 3RD STRAIGHT SUPER BOWL STARTS OFF ON RIGHT FOOTThe broadcast showed a moment where Hendershot appeared to shove Smith, and the linebacker confirmed it after the game with a message as well. »But, whoever [number] 88 is, I don’t know who he is, but he better watch himself, » Smith said. « He did a little slick push. »Reporters quickly questioned Smith again to confirm what happened, as he also seemed to turn around after Hendershot pushed him on the Chiefs’ sideline, leading to a scrum before the tension dissipated. « Whoever No. 88 is, I have no idea who he is, but I’ll see him when I see him, » Smith concluded before taking another question. The Chiefs would go on to score on that drive, as rookie Xavier Worthy picked up his second career touchdown on just his third touch of the football in his NFL debut, a 35-yard score due to blown coverage.Smith’s personal stat line was a solid one, as he led the Ravens in tackles with seven (four solo), while picking off Mahomes late in the first half as well. He did, however, have a horse collar tackle on his first action of the regular season when trying to take down Rashee Rice. The Ravens ultimately fell to the Chiefs, the reigning Super Bowl champions, in tragic fashion as it appeared they had a chance to tie, or even win, the game after tight end Isaiah Likely caught what looked to be a touchdown on the final play of regulation. However, Likely’s toe was an inch out of bounds.Since these are not division foes, the Ravens won’t be seeing the Chiefs again until a potential playoff matchup like they had in the AFC Championship Game earlier this year. If and when that does happen, Smith was very clear that he’ll be seeing Hendershot after having problems with his actions in Week 1. Follow Fox News Digital’s sports coverage on X, and subscribe to the Fox News Sports Huddle newsletter.

Georgia school shooting: New audio of alleged shooter, father encounter with police over 2023 online threats

[ad_1]

Georgia authorities have released audio from the 2023 visit to the home of the alleged Georgia high school shooter after an anonymous report to the FBI over online threats about « possibly threatening to shoot up a middle school » in a group chat on messaging app Discord surfaced. Jackson County, Georgia, sheriff’s officers spoke face-to-face with the boy who is now charged with felony murder in the deaths of four at Apalachee High School in Winder on Wednesday. The sheriff’s officers described their interactions in a detailed investigation report from May 21, 2023, when suspect Colt Gray was 13 years old, after being tipped off by the FBI about a threat on the messaging app Discord, popular with some video gamers, to shoot up a middle school. When the police begin questioning Colin Gray, the father shares more about Gray’s home life and the accusation, saying this visit is b*****t and a terrorist threat.COLIN GRAY, FATHER OF GEORGIA HIGH SCHOOL SHOOTING SUSPECT CHARGED WITH MURDER, MANSLAUGHTER, CHILD CRUELTY »He’s going through a lot…very difficult for him to go to school and not get picked on, » Colin said. Colin tells the officer that he and Colt’s mom got divorced and that they had been evicted. « He struggled at first with the separation. I’ve been taking him to school. He goes to Jefferson Middle school. He’s been doing really good, » Colin explained. The officer acknowledges the severity of the visit and Colin agrees and says that Colt « knows how serious it is, trust me. »Colin claims he’s been up to the school multiple times, blames it on other kids touching his son and says Colt wanted to move out of the school district.Colin then claims he keeps getting picked on and talks about the importance of gun safety. « Let me ask you this – do you have any weapons in the house? » the officer asks. »I do, » Colin says.WHO IS THE ALLEGED GEORGIA SCHOOL SHOOTER? WHAT WE KNOW »Are they accessible, » the officer then asks. »They are…I mean there’s nothing loaded, but they are…we do a lot of shooting, we do a lot of deer hunting. He shot his first deer this year, » Colin says. « like I’m pretty much in shock…I’m pissed off to be honest with you. » « I’m a little taken back by the whole thing, but I can tell you this, I take that very serious and so does he, as a matter of fact, » Colin says. « I don’t know anything about him saying s**t like that. And I’m going to be mad as hell if he did, and then all the guns will go away and they won’t be accessible to him, » Colin continues. « You know, I’m trying to be honest. I’m trying to teach him about firearms and safety and how to do it all and get him an interest in the outdoors. » »Get him away from the video game, » the officer responds. »Yeah. Exactly. Right. That’s the best. The God honest truth is, the picture on my phone is him with blood on his cheeks when he shoot his first deer. It’s just the greatest day ever, » Colin says. « So sure, he knows the seriousness of weapons and what they can do and how to use them and not use them. »GEORGIA OFFICERS INTERVIEWED APALACHEE HIGH SCHOOL SHOOTING SUSPECT IN 2023, COULD NOT SUBSTANTIATE THREAT »So it’s kind of a little bit of a shock. So whatever y’all are telling him, please instill in him what if this is whatever or wherever some come from is no joke. No, like it’s no joke, » Colin continued. »We wouldn’t be here, » the officer said. »No, I know, I know, and I’m telling you right now we talk about it quite a bit. All the school shootings, things that happen. Yeah, I hear you getting picked on at school. He is. He’s getting picked on at school. And. Is everything okay? That’s why I keep going up there. No. You know, because you just never you never really know. And I don’t want anything to happen to him, so. Yeah. Yeah, » Colin finished. The officer then asks to speak to Colt and Colin agrees to get him.Colt enters the room and the officer tells him there will be a report. The officer seems to take Colt at his word, and they even share a laugh about people lying to police. The officer and Colt exchanged small talk about school, the end of school and moving on to high school.Colin Gray, 54, faces multiple charges over the alleged actions of his son, Colt Gray, 14, including four counts of involuntary manslaughter, two counts of second-degree murder and eight counts of cruelty to children. On Thursday, authorities said the elder Gray knowingly allowed his son to possess a weapon. He is being held at the Barrow County jail.Fox News Digital’s Louis Casiano and Timothy Nerozzi contributed to this report.

Chiefs take down Ravens as hunt for 3rd straight Super Bowl starts off on right foot

[ad_1]

A sliver of Baltimore Ravens tight end Isaiah Likely’s toe was the difference between overtime in the first game of the NFL season and the Kansas City Chiefs’ first win of the year. The final play of the game saw Lamar Jackson and the Ravens needing a touchdown to force overtime, and he fired a strike to Likely, who secured it and looked to get two feet in. However, after review, Likely’s toe was on the back line, and he was ruled out of bounds, ending the game in dramatic fashion in favor of the home team, 27-20. CLICK HERE FOR MORE SPORTS COVERAGE ON FOXNEWS.COMThe Chiefs are hunting for NFL history this season as the first team to win three straight Super Bowls, and on the night they unveiled their latest banner, they did what needed to be done – and saw some luck fall their way in the end – to start off on the right foot.Earlier this year, the Chiefs defeated the Ravens in the AFC Championship Game to get to the Super Bowl in Las Vegas, and they kept that domination alive at home this time in Kansas City. And while Patrick Mahomes showcased his regular magic on the football field as quarterback for the Chiefs, it was his new weapon, rookie speedster Xavier Worthy, that really shined in his NFL debut. One of the reasons the Chiefs are expected to have more explosive plays this season is Worthy, the new record holder in the 40-yard dash after posting a 4.21-second run at the NFL Scouting Combine. That speed was showcased immediately in this game, as he had just three touches on the football, but two of them went for touchdowns. The Chiefs needed just four plays to get downfield in scoring territory on its first drive of the season, and it was Mahomes hitting his second-year receiver Rashee Rice, who had two catches for 27 yards, his last a 16-yard catch-and-run with a horse collar tackle that added 15 yards on top of that. TAYLOR SWIFT ARRIVES FOR CHIEFS-RAVENS WEEK 1 OPENERThen, the ball went in the hands of rookie receiver Xavier Worthy, the new record holder in the NFL Combine’s 40-yard dash, for the first time and he didn’t disappoint. The blazing speed was on full display, as he worked his way around the Ravens’ defense and into the end zone for a 21-yard touchdown run – his first touch in the NFL. The Ravens, though, were the first to put up a touchdown in the new year, and it was their new addition, running back Derrick Henry, plunging in from five yards out for his first end zone trip as a Raven. After such a hot start, though, the Chiefs and Ravens both punted on their next drives, but we then saw our first turnover of the new year. Chiefs star defensive tackle Chris Jones, who wreaked havoc all game, got into the backfield and forced the ball out of Jackson’s hands on the first play of the Ravens’ third drive. That set the Chiefs up for another potential touchdown drive, but Juju Smith-Schuster, who rejoined the Chiefs this offseason, couldn’t handle a ball on the goal line. Harrison Butker kicked his first field goal of the year to take the lead for Kansas City. It was a lead Kansas City wouldn’t relinquish the rest of the game, as Baltimore just couldn’t get going like they usually did on their way to the best record in the league last season (though their final drive made things interesting). Justin Tucker, who struggled from beyond 50 yards last season, missed his first field goal of the year from 53 yards out.And despite picking off Mahomes late in the first half, the Ravens had to settle for a field goal to head into the locker room down three points, 13-10. TAYLOR SWIFT’S MAN TRAVIS KELCE ISN’T BOTHERED BY BEING CALLED ARM CANDY: ‘COMES WITH THE TERRITORY’The Chiefs created a gap with its first drive in the second half, as Mahomes led the way on a six-play, 81-yard drive that ended with a Pacheco score from one yard out. But while the Ravens were struggling on offense, we all know it takes just one play to turn things around, and that’s exactly what happened when Jackson simply threw it up for Isaiah Likely, the Ravens’ tight end who shined last year in place of the hurt Mark Andrews.Likely secured the pass with linebacker Nick Bolton draped all over him, and he started to make the Chiefs miss. After maneuvering around Bolton, he found a couple blocks and started streaking downfield. He hit the brakes just before the goal line and walked into the end zone for a 49-yard touchdown that made it a three-point game again. However, Worthy’s second touchdown came immediately after Baltimore felt momentum on its sideline again, as Marlon Humphrey thought he had safety help over the top, and Mahomes didn’t miss his rookie on the right side as he waltzed into the end zone for a 35-yard score. The Ravens would cut the lead to seven with another Tucker field goal, and they were able to get the ball back at the two-minute warning in an attempt to tie, or perhaps win, the game. Baltimore made its way downfield, as Jackson started dissecting the defense by finding Likely. Then, things got fascinating when Rashod Bateman went up to grab a 38-yard reception to land on Kansas City’s 10-yard line. With second-and-goal and 10 seconds remaining, Jackson danced around the pocket and fired a pass to a wide-open Zay Flowers, but he threw behind him. Then, the Likely mishap occurred, ending the Ravens’ night in heartbreak. Follow Fox News Digital’s sports coverage on X, and subscribe to the Fox News Sports Huddle newsletter.

Vance spox blasts AP for ‘brazenly lying’ with out of context school shooting quote: ‘Lost all credibility’

[ad_1]

A spokesman for JD Vance blasted the Associated Press for publishing a headline Thursday that implied the Republican vice presidential candidate had dismissed school shootings as a « fact of life. »In an exclusive comment to Fox News Digital, Vance spokesperson William Martin attacked the AP. « This is yet another case of the fake news media brazenly lying about a Republican politician. Senator Vance said exactly the opposite of what the Associated Press claimed. It should come as no surprise that the AP lost any and all credibility it had years ago, because they will lie about literally anything in order prop up the Democrats. Meanwhile, Kamala Harris has called for all police officers to be removed from schools, putting children all over America at risk. It’s yet another example of how Kamala Harris’s weak, failed, and dangerously liberal agenda makes her unfit for office, » Martin said.  At a rally in Phoenix, Vance remarked on the recent mass shooting that took place at Apalachee High School in Barrow County, Georgia on Wednesday.JD VANCE LAYS BARE THE ‘LIE’ AT THE ‘HEART’ OF KAMALA HARRIS’ CAMPAIGN: POLICIES ‘CAUSED HIGHER FOOD PRICES' »I don’t like that this is a fact of life, » Vance said. « But if you are a psycho and you want to make headlines, you realize that our schools are soft targets. And we have got to bolster security at our schools. We’ve got to bolster security, so if a psycho wants to walk through the front door and kill a bunch of children, they’re not able. »While reporting the quote, however, AP appeared to insinuate Vance called school shootings a « fact of life » without lamenting the fact. »JD Vance says school shootings are a ‘fact of life,’ calls for better security, » the headline and X post originally read. »Misleading headline: The full quote is, ‘I don’t like that this is a fact of life,' » a proposed X Community Note read.AP later replaced both the headline and the X post, acknowledging the update. The new headline reads, « JD Vance says he laments that school shootings are a ‘fact of life’ and calls for better security. » »This post replaces an earlier post that was deleted to add context to the partial quote from Vance, » the AP posted.CBS HOST ANNOYED WITH JD VANCE FOR CRITICIZING MEDIA FOR NOT FACT-CHECKING BIDEN: ‘EVERYTHING’S OUR FAULT’Fox News Digital reached out to the AP for a comment. The Harris-Walz campaign responded by attacking Vance and former President Trump. »Yesterday, Vice President Harris said ‘it doesn’t have to be this way’ in response to another senseless school shooting. Donald Trump and JD Vance think school shootings are a ‘fact of life’ and ‘we have to get over it,’ Harris-Walz 2024 spokesperson Ammar Moussa said in a statement.Moussa continued, « Vice President Harris and Governor Walz know we can take action to keep our children safe and keep guns out of the hands of criminals. Brett Favre reveals sobering conversation he had with ‘Concussion’ movie doctor

[ad_1]

Since his retirement, Brett Favre has gone on record now multiple times saying he believes he suffered hundreds if not thousands of concussions during his football career. Favre reiterated this belief during an interview with OutKick’s Ricky Cobb this week. The full interview will air Friday morning at 11 a.m. ET.One of the more infamous Favre concussions occurred in 2004, when the Packers played the New York Giants and Favre suffered the head injury. He threw a 28-yard touchdown pass to Javon Walker, but it was later reported that Favre did not remember throwing the pass due to the concussion.Favre would not have admitted to how many concussions he believes he had during or shortly after his playing career, but he’s become more aware of the affect the sport had on his brain in recent years. CLICK HERE FOR MORE SPORTS COVERAGE ON FOXNEWS.COMFavre’s post-career brain health explorations even brought him face to face with the famed Dr. Bennet Omalu. Omalu is a forensic pathologist, and neuropathologist who was the first to discover and publish findings on chronic traumatic encephalopathy in American football. Omalu was famously depicted by Will Smith in the 2015 film ‘Concussion.’ Favre’s conversation with Omalu provided the former quarterback with a sobering answer to a question he was curious about. « I had a conversation with him, we were in a conference call many years ago and afterward we had a brief discussion, » Favre told Cobb. « I said ‘when’s a good time to play tackle football’ and he kind of chuckled and said ‘I know that Americans don’t want to hear this, but never is there a good time for humans to play tackle football. » HIGH SCHOOL QUARTERBACK DIES AFTER BRAIN INJURY IN OPENING NIGHT GAMEOmalu performed a famous autopsy of former Hall of Fame Pittsburgh Steelers player Mike Webster in 2002, which led to the re-emergence of awareness of a neurologic condition associated with chronic head trauma called chronic traumatic encephalopathy, or CTE. However, in January 2020, The Washington Post reported that Omalu routinely exaggerated his accomplishments and dramatically overstates the known risks of CTE and contact sports, fueling misconceptions about the disease, according to interviews with more than 50 experts in neurodegenerative disease and brain injuries, and a review of more than 100 papers from peer-reviewed medical journalsStill, Favre has spoken out about the dangers of football now multiple times in recent years. In 2021, Favre appeared on the « TODAY » show and revealed a PSA for the Concussion Legacy Foundation. He urged parents to keep their children away from tackle football until they are 14. »(There’s) no telling how many concussions I’ve had, and what are the repercussions of that, there’s no answer, » he said in 2021. « I wasn’t the best student, but I still can remember certain things that you would go, ‘Why would you even remember that?’ But I can’t remember someone that I played six years with in Green Bay … but the face looks familiar. Those type of issues that make me wonder. »Follow Fox News Digital’s sports coverage on X, and subscribe to the Fox News Sports Huddle newsletter.

Ravens’ Derrick Henry scores 1st touchdown of 2024 NFL season vs Chiefs

[ad_1]

The first touchdown of the 2024 NFL season belongs to Baltimore Ravens running back Derrick Henry. Henry, in his first drive in his first game with the Ravens, finished off Baltimore’s 70-yard opening drive with a five-yard rush at the goal line, powering into the end zone against the Kansas City Chiefs on Thursday.CLICK HERE FOR MORE SPORTS COVERAGE ON FOXNEWS.COMHenry signed a two-year deal with the Ravens back in March. As a former league MVP and two-time NFL rushing leader, Henry joined two-time MVP Lamar Jackson in a Ravens backfield that led the league in rushing in 2023. Henry’s opening drive touchdown could be a preview of one of the NFL’s most dynamic rushing offenses.COMMANDERS FIRE EXEC CAUGHT ON UNDERCOVER VIDEO MAKING DISPARAGING REMARKSAt 30 years old, Henry has a lot of miles on him. Since entering the league in 2016, Henry has played the fifth-most snaps among running backs — and will most likely surpass 4,000 regular-season snaps on Thursday night. Among 64 running backs with at least 1,500 snaps over that period. However, Henry is also in his first year running out of a shotgun offense, which may take some getting used to. Baltimore running backs coach Willie Taggart said he was slightly concerned about Henry running out of shotgun, but then he saw him practice. The Ravens’ offensive line turnover (replacing three starters) could also impact Henry’s room to run, but he still churned out more than 1,000 yards on the ground last season behind the Titans’ struggling line.Follow Fox News Digital’s sports coverage on X, and subscribe to the Fox News Sports Huddle newsletter.

Actress Selma Blair condemns anti-Israel protesters ‘praising’ Hamas terrorists: ‘Something very wrong’

[ad_1]

Actress Selma Blair declared her support for Israel and condemned the anti-Israel protesters she said are praising « terrorists. »The « Cruel Intentions » and « Legally Blonde » actress posted an Instagram Story Tuesday where she called out people, particularly in California, who appeared to show more support for « jihadists » in Gaza than Israel. »About a year ago, after October 7, there was a chance for the world to see what terrorists are capable of, and so much of the world, especially where I live in California, doesn’t seem to see this tragedy and the truth of what is happening, » Blair said. She continued, « I stand with Israel. I stand with the hostages. I stand with their families — mothers, sisters, friends — these are innocent people that have been in hell and then murdered…The jihadists, the radicals, the extreme, they’re terrorists, and they run Gaza. And that is who so many people are filling the streets with, praising. Something very wrong is happening here. »THE CELEBS WHO FACED SEVERE BACKLASH FOR SPEAKING OUT FOR OR AGAINST ISRAEL: ‘THE STAKES ARE SUDDENLY HIGH’ »And I stand with all the families, and I stand with all of us who care for peace and human life. I’m with you. Am Yisrael Chai. God bless America, » Blair, who is Jewish, concluded. Her video came days after the Israel Defense Ministry (IDF) confirmed the executions of six hostages, including Israeli-American Hersh Goldberg-Polin, after an operation in tunnels below Rafah, a city on the Gaza Strip. The IDF believed they were killed by Hamas shortly before Israeli soldiers were about to rescue them.Blair previously attacked anti-Israel sentiment in a now-deleted comment replying to a user profile named Abraham Hamra’s video attacking antisemitism. »Thank you so much. Deport all these terrorist supporting goons. Islam has destroyed Muslim countries and then they come here and destroyed minds. They know they are liars. Twisted justifications. May they meet their fate, » Blair wrote in February. She later posted an apology for the comment, saying she was spreading « hate and misinformation. » »This is a time of great pain and anguish for many around the world, but it is also a time to learn and better understand how words matter. I commented on a post by Abraham Hamra regarding two congress members who are against banning October 7th Hamas terrorists from entering the USA, » Blair wrote at the time.HOLLYWOOD STARS ‘AFRAID OF THE BACKLASH’ IF THEY SIDE WITH ISRAEL OVER PALESTINIANS, JEWISH CRITIC SAYSShe added, « In my comment, I mistakenly and inadvertently conflated Muslims with Radical Islamists and fundamentalists, a terrible err in my words, and resulted in hurting countless people I never meant to, and I deeply regret this. As soon as my error was brought to my attention, I deleted the comment. » Fox News Digital reached out to Blair’s rep for a comment.Though many Hollywood actors have expressed support for Palestinians and a ceasefire, some have publicly backed Israel and criticized others for ignoring rising antisemitism in the wake of the Oct. 7 terror attack.CLICK HERE TO GET THE FOX NEWS APP

Hunter Biden’s ‘high drama’ day in court ends in shocking guilty plea

[ad_1]

The criminal trial of first son Hunter Biden for federal tax charges was expected to get underway in normal order Thursday, until the younger Biden said he intended to plead guilty to the charges in a shocking twist. Special counsel David Weiss charged Biden with three felonies and six misdemeanors concerning $1.4 million in owed taxes that have since been paid. Weiss alleged a pattern by which the president’s son did not pay his federal income taxes while also filing false tax returns. In the indictment, Weiss alleged that Biden « engaged in a four-year scheme to not pay at least $1.4 million in self-assessed federal taxes he owed for tax years 2016 through 2019, from in or about January 2017 through in or about October 15, 2020, and to evade the assessment of taxes for tax year 2018 when he filed false returns in or about February 2020. »Earlier this year, Biden’s lawyers blew up a plea deal involving those crimes, indicating Hunter would plead not guilty in trial. But instead, Abbe Lowell, Biden’s attorney, said in a California federal court Thursday that his client intended to switch his plea, unbeknownst to the prosecution. HUNTER BIDEN’S CRIMINAL TAX TRIAL BEGINS WITH JURY SELECTION IN CALIFORNIAThe development came after Biden’s lawyers had prepared to argue he was too high or drunk to pay his taxes. »Hunter decided to enter his plea to protect those he loves from unnecessary hurt and cruel humiliation. This plea prevents that kind of show trial that would have not provided all of the facts, or served any real point in justice, » Lowell said. « We will now move on to the sentencing phase while keeping open the options to raise the many clear issues with this case. I feel there’s no doubt this case was an extreme and unusual one for the government to bring, » Lowell said. Biden remains free on bond until the sentencing date on Dec. 16.Earlier in the day, it seemed Biden would enter what’s known as an Alford plea, when a defendant acknowledges that a prosecutor’s evidence would likely be enough to convict, so they accept a sentence but maintain their innocence. It also wasn’t clear at first whether Biden’s plea would be accepted by Judge Mark Scarsi, who commented that « the court doesn’t need the government’s agreement to accept an Alford plea. »After hours of deliberations, it came down to Biden pleading guilty to all nine counts. HUNTER BIDEN TAX TRIAL POSTPONED TO SEPTEMBERAs the court proceedings came to a close, DOJ prosecutor Leo Wise read aloud every page of the 56-page indictment against the president’s son, including Biden’s expenditures that were on a business line of credit that included hotels, Airbnbs, sex club membership, porn websites, designer clothing, travel, money to his adult children, exotic dancers, and more.Kerri Kupec Urbahn, Fox News legal editor and former senior adviser to former Attorney General William Barr, called the day full of « high drama » from Hunter Biden, who created « the most unsympathetic situation » for himself « in the court of public opinion and the court of law. » »I have thought all along it was insane not for him to plead guilty at the very beginning; either you pay your taxes or you don’t, » Urbahn said. « It’s really that simple. » »People hate paying taxes. They hate even more the guy that gets away with not paying those taxes, and you know what they hate even more than that? The guy that gets a Get Out of Jail Free card from his dad, who happens to be the President of the United States, because nobody else in America has that, » she said. « It is like the most unsympathetic situation that one can create, both in the court of public opinion and the court of law. » HUNTER BIDEN PLEADS GUILTY TO ALL NINE FEDERAL TAX CHARGES BROUGHT BY SPECIAL COUNSEL DAVID WEISSPresident Biden has vowed not to pardon his son, and the White House suggested on Thursday that he has not changed his mind. »It’s no, it’s still no, » White House Press Secretary Karine Jean-Pierre told reporters Thursday when they questioned whether the plea had impacted Biden’s decision on whether he would consider a pardon for his son. « I’m not able to comment on it, but I can say that it is still very much a ‘no’ to the questions I have gotten about if the president is going to pardon [Hunter].But criminal defense attorney and law professor Jonathan Turley says that, should Biden change his mind, the December sentencing date « falls within the period where executive action would be most likely if it were to come. » »It will still allow weeks for President Biden to consider a commutation or pardon, so it is placing the sentencing date in the sweet spot for the White House. If President Biden was going to violate his promise, he would likely do that after the election and shortly before he leaves office. Moreover, if the sentence is a long one, it may offer more pressure on the president to use executive power to protect his son, » Turley told Fox News Digital. « The drama in California was consistent with the entire Biden defense, » Turley added. « What’s striking about every stage of this defense is how it has utterly failed to achieve any positive results for Hunter Biden, that for all the drama and media attention, each of these moments has led to a significant loss for Hunter Biden. » »He’s now facing sentencing in two states. He has succeeded in putting himself in the worst possible position for sentencing in both Delaware and California, » Turley said, adding, « it’s hard to discern any legal strategy that runs throughout these cases. »Hunter Biden earlier this year was found guilty in a separate case involving an illegal purchase of a firearm. Those charges included making a false statement in the purchase of a gun, making a false statement related to information required to be kept by a federally licensed gun dealer, and possession of a gun by a person who is an unlawful user of or addicted to a controlled substance.Fox News’ Lee Ross and Fox News Digital’s Alec Schemmel contributed to this report.

House Republicans cry ‘vindication’ after Hunter Biden guilty plea

[ad_1]

Congressional Republicans are claiming vindication after Hunter Biden pleaded guilty to nine federal tax-related charges on Thursday — and warning President Biden not to pardon his son.Rep. Warren Davidson, R-Ohio, told Fox News Digital that he believes the plea « absolutely » affirms the accusations and findings GOP lawmakers have levied against the first family since before President Biden took office. »It’s also vindication for the whistleblowers, » he added, accusing Hunter’s defenders of trying to « wreck their careers. »Davidson said of Biden potentially pardoning his son, « I think it would be an abuse of that power for the president to do that, but I think a lot of people will be surprised if Joe Biden doesn’t. »HUNTER BIDEN FOUND GUILTY ON ALL COUNTS IN GUN TRIALThe White House has said multiple times that the president will not pardon his son, but that has not stopped Republican-led skepticism from pouring in.It comes after a bombshell House GOP report, which the White House has pushed back on, that accused the president of committing « impeachable offenses » by allegedly helping enrich himself and his family through foreign deals.Meanwhile, House Ways & Means Chairman Jason Smith, R-Mo., whose committee is one of three that was investigating Biden via impeachment inquiry, similarly said the guilty plea upheld the testimony of whistleblowers who came to his panel.HUNTER BIDEN TRIAL ENTERS DAY 5 AFTER TESTIMONY FROM SISTER-IN-LAW-TURNED-GIRLFRIEND: ‘PANICKED' »Hunter Biden’s decision to plead guilty once again affirms the integrity of the IRS whistleblowers who recommended these exact charges over two years ago before being stonewalled by the Biden-Harris Justice Department. Had Joseph Ziegler and Gary Shapley not come forward, putting their reputations and careers at great risk in the process, Hunter Biden would have received a sweetheart plea deal for merely two misdemeanors, » Smith told Fox News Digital.Smith added as a veiled warning, « It remains to be seen whether President Biden will abuse the power of his office to ensure his son avoids the consequences of his felony tax crimes. »House Oversight Committee Chairman James Comer, R-Ky., who also co-led the probe, said, « Hunter Biden is finally admitting the obvious: he didn’t pay taxes on income he received by selling access to his father, Joe Biden. »A member of that committee, Rep. Pat Fallon, R-Texas, told Fox News Digital, « We also can’t let Hunter Biden’s plea deal distract from the fact that he was the bag man in the Biden family’s influence peddling scheme that saw them amass some $27 million by selling political access to ‘the big guy,’ Joe Biden. » »For more than a decade, Hunter and his associates enriched themselves at the expense of the American people. By all means, Hunter needs to be held to account, but this is by no means the end when it comes to equal justice under the law, » Fallon said.DOJ REVEALS IT HAS BIDEN TRANSCRIPTS AT ISSUE IN CLASSIFIED DOCS CASE AFTER INITIAL DENIALBiden and his allies have consistently pushed back on accusations levied by House Republicans, dismissing them as misrepresentations and political attacks. But that has not convinced GOP lawmakers like Rep. Andy Biggs, R-Ariz., who warned Biden not to pardon his son. »Hunter Biden’s bait-and-switch stunt is a clear effort to avoid a messy trial that would reveal his father’s role in the family’s corrupt business dealings. Americans will once again witness the Bidens’ corruption go unpunished as President Biden will likely pardon his son on his way out of the Oval Office, » Biggs said.White House press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre told reporters on Thursday that « no, » Hunter Biden would not get a presidential pardon from his father, hours before he entered his guilty plea.Biden himself said in June that he would « abide by the jury’s decision » when asked if he would pardon his son.

Jannik Sinner to play US Open semifinal after failed drug tests due to steroid spray with big ‘DOPING’ warning

[ad_1]

Despite two failed doping tests this summer, Italian tennis player Jannik Sinner is on his way to the semifinals at the U.S. Open. Sinner will play England’s Jack Draper Friday night for a chance to play in the men’s singles final. The 23-year-old star is looking for his second Grand Slam title amid ongoing backlash against his eligibility for this year’s tournament by the International Tennis Integrity Agency (ITIA). Sinner tested positive twice for a banned anabolic steroid in March. The anabolic steroid he tested for is called clostebol and is a derivative of natural testosterone. The source of the clostebol was a spray used for treating open wounds that is available without a prescription. However, the packaging of that spray has a large warning that says « DOPING. » CLICK HERE FOR MORE SPORTS COVERAGE ON FOXNEWS.COMThe spray, Trofodermin, also contains an underlined warning in Italian on the medication guide that comes inside the box that says, « For those taking part in sports: use of the drug without therapeutic needs constitutes doping and can result in positive anti-doping tests. »Clostebol is listed in the anabolic androgenic steroids section on page 5 of WADA’s 24-page list of banned substances. Italian law dictates that all medications that include substances on the World Anti-Doping Association’s (WADA) banned list come with the printed « DOPING » warning.San Diego Padres star Fernando Tatis Jr. was suspended by MLB for 80 games after testing positive for the same drug in 2022.Sinner was not suspended because it was determined the clostebol entered his body during a massage from his physiotherapist, Giacomo Naldi, ITIA announced Aug. 20 after an independent investigation. Sinner said his fitness trainer, Umberto Ferrara, bought Trofodermin in Italy and gave it to Naldi for a cut on Naldi’s finger. Naldi then treated Sinner while not wearing gloves.Clostebol is listed as a controlled substance in America, so it can only be sold with a doctor’s prescription because the U.S. government considers it to have a potential for abuse. Pending a potential appeal from the WADA, Sinner will get away with his physiotherapist’s mistake. It’s a decision that has already drawn criticism from some of the sport’s top players.Men’s tennis superstars Novak Djokovic and Carlos Alcaraz have addressed the topic and criticized what they described as a lack of transparency. US OPEN WINNER ANDRE AGASSI BELIEVES AMERICAN TENNIS IS POISED FOR GRAND SLAM ‘BREAKTHROUGH’ IN MEN’S SINGLES »We see a lack of standardized and clear protocols. I can understand the sentiments of a lot of players that are questioning whether they are treated the same, » Djokovic told reporters ahead of the U.S. Open.Alcaraz told reporters, « I think there’s something behind this that a lot of people doesn’t know. I don’t even know. In the end, it’s something very difficult to talk about. » Meanwhile, Australian tennis star Nick Kyrgios, who won the Australian Open in 2022 but also lost to Sinner in the Miami Open that same year, took a stronger stance against his former opponent’s eligibility. Kyrgios said Sinner only surrendering prize money and points is « ridiculous, » and the Italian shouldn’t see the court for a long time. »Whether it was accidental or planned. You get tested twice with a banned (steroid) substance… you should be gone for 2 years. Your performance was enhanced. Massage cream…. Yeah nice, » Kyrgios wrote in a post on X Aug. 21. However, some have come to Sinner’s defense. Eight-time Grand Slam champion Andre Agassi defended Sinner in a recent interview with Fox News Digital. »If you’re going to performance enhancement cheat, you’re not going to put a billionth of a gram of something in your body on purpose. You’re going to get a benefit from the performance enhancer if that’s your objective, » Agassi said. »It’s not like when you missed three tests, or you don’t take three tests — like we’ve seen with a couple players — that’s an immediate action, right? So, the quietness of it is always there in any due process, unless a player willingly chooses to talk about it. And his ability to play while it’s being appealed, it’s not necessarily a rule, it’s a law. »Sinner became the betting favorite for this year’s title when Djokovic and Alcarez were eliminated early in the men’s singles tournament. After defeating 2021 U.S. Open champion Daniil Medvedev in the quarterfinals Wednesday night, Sinner is the only man left in the field who has won a Grand Slam title.Draper and American Taylor Fritz are participating in the semifinals at a major for the first time. Fellow American Frances Tiafoe made it to the semis two years ago before losing to eventual champion Alcaraz.Sinner has been to the semifinals at each of the four Grand Slams and is particularly strong on hard courts, where he is 33-2 with four titles in 2024.The Associated Press contributed to this report.Follow Fox News Digital’s sports coverage on X, and subscribe to the Fox News Sports Huddle newsletter.

Energy groups pan Biden-Harris $7.3B ‘clean energy’ spending ahead of battleground visit

[ad_1]

FIRST ON FOX: Energy groups slammed the Biden-Harris administration’s $7.3 billion « rural electrification » funding drawn from the Inflation Reduction Act (IRA) ahead of President Biden’s Thursday announcement in battleground Wisconsin. »This is all about politics, this has nothing to do with science. These are not scientifically good energy sources that he’s promoting, » founder John Droz Jr. of the Alliance for Wise Energy Decisions told Fox News Digital on Thursday. »There’s three elements that a proper energy source should have, » he said. « One is to do it with reliability, number two is economics and third is environmental impact. The answer is that no one basically is thinking about those type of things. Instead, decisions are made by President Biden and others based on what is deemed to be politically correct. »GREEN GOVERNANCE THE NEW GUISE FOR MERCANTILISM, WILL LEAD TO GLOBAL INSTABILITY: EXPERTFunded by the Democrats’ signature Inflation Reduction Act, the billion-dollar price tag is the largest investment Biden has thrown toward the « rural electrification » effort since the Green New Deal, which typically consists of constructing wind turbines. According to a White House fact sheet, it will support 16 rural electric cooperatives across 23 states to provide affordable electricity to about 5 million rural households. The Biden-Harris administration says it will enhance grid reliability, lower energy costs and create thousands of jobs while cutting greenhouse gas emissions.Daniel Turner, founder of the environmental group Power the Future, said Biden’s timing for announcing the program « is not just coincidental. » »Here we are 61 days before the election and just now they happen to announce seven and a half billion dollars for a very important swing state, » Turner told Fox News Digital. « I am sick and tired of hearing that these investments are going to lower costs, because utility bills are up 30% since the Biden administration took over, and all we’ve done is continue to, quote unquote, invest in wind and solar, and prices have not come down, and evidence of that is around the world. »‘RUINED BY NEGLIGENCE’: DAVE PORTNOY BLASTS NANTUCKET WIND FARM AFTER BROKEN BLADE SHUTS DOWN BEACHES »You don’t need to spend any money at all. That’s the funny thing is that the energy industry hasn’t needed government money for it to operate. It needs government cooperation. »The Biden-Harris administration has long been implementing environmental policies that prioritize natural resources over fossil fuels and other traditional sources of energy. In June, the White House enacted new rules seeking to aid companies involved in clean energy, and the White House argued that the investments will help communities tied to the energy sector that predate the green movement. »Rather than forcing on rural Americans’ energy sources they don’t want, the administration ought to be removing the obstacles to energy sources that they do want, » Ben Lieberman, environmental policy researcher at the Competitive Enterprise Institute, told Fox News Digital. « I don’t sense among rural Americans that there’s this desire … for wind and solar and geothermal. They just want affordable energy, and that means affordable fossil fuels, first and foremost. And so I think, rather than throwing tax dollars around, the administration should do a lot more just by removing the impediments to energy sources that don’t need federal money but just need less regulatory and permitting burdens. »BIDEN ADMINISTRATION BLASTED FOR ‘HYPOCRISY’ ON OFFSHORE WIND AS IT SCRAMBLES TO PROBE WHALE DEATHSOn the one-year anniversary of the IRA last year, more than 40 energy groups and think tanks demanded that Congress put an end to what they described as « Green New Deal-type policies » in the law that serve to benefit China over the U.S. »It was passed with no votes from Republicans. It cost [Sen.] Joe Manchin [of West Virginia] his career, and it was only after the fact that the administration [admitted] it really wasn’t about inflation, it was about green spending, » said Turner, who led the letter to Congress last year. « They just called it the Inflation Reduction Act because inflation was on everybody’s mind, and this is a perfect example of that. »On a press call before Biden’s announcement, a senior White House official said, « It’s the largest investment in rural electrification since FDR’s administration and will spur economic development and lower costs for millions of Americans. » »And it will create 4,500 permanent jobs and 16,000 construction jobs. He will hear from people on the ground about how these and other investments from his agenda are changing their lives for the better, » the official said. Fox News Digital’s Jessica Chasmar and Charles Creitz contributed to this report.

Top Biden official put on notice for refusing to reveal key info on terror watchlist migrants

[ad_1]

FIRST ON FOX: Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas is facing a grilling from Congress for the Biden administration’s refusal to turn over the nationalities of people arrested on the FBI terror watchlist at the border by Border Patrol. »I suspect that the real reason you’re unlawfully withholding this information about terror suspects’ nationalities isn’t due to privacy or security concerns, but rather partisan concerns that it would alarm the American people, » Sen. Tom Cotton, R-Ark., said in a letter to Mayorkas. « Once again, you’re attempting to hide evidence of the Biden-Harris administration’s border crisis. »Customs and Border Protection (CBP) wrote to Fox News last week again denying a request to provide the nationalities of suspects on the FBI terror watchlist arrested at the southern border between ports of entry by Border Patrol.BIDEN-HARRIS ADMIN REFUSES TO REVEAL NATIONALITIES OF TERROR WATCHLIST MIGRANTS NABBED AT BORDERThe watchlist, now called the Terrorist Screening Dataset, includes known or suspected terrorists, as well as additional individuals believed to pose a potential threat to the U.S., including affiliates of individuals on the watchlist. The request sought only the nationalities of those encountered and no further information, but it was denied. Fox made the request in October last year, and was initially denied in May, citing privacy and security concerns. The agency doubled down on that reasoning last week. »[Customs and Border Protection (CBP)] is committed to protecting the identity of individuals and avoiding divulging information about any individual by either direct or indirect means, » the agency said in a letter to Fox. « Releasing data for a particular nationality, or nationalities, that reflect a small number of individuals could lead to identification, especially by organizations familiar with the individuals. »The agency also claimed that the release of the information would reveal investigative techniques used in processing and apprehending terrorists.BIDEN ADMIN REFUSES TO REVEAL TERROR WATCHLIST NATIONALITIES AS ILLEGAL IMMIGRATION EXPLODES ON HIS WATCH « By providing this information, it could allow targets to alter their behavior to avoid detection and exploit the gaps in CBP’s law enforcement intelligence, as well as compromise national security. Additionally, providing the requested information could disclose terrorist travel trends by geographic area which could help tip off terrorists about the government’s knowledge of travel plans, allowing the terrorists to take countermeasures against the investigators and their investigations, » it says. The agency argued that the disclosure of nationalities could allow bad actors « to undertake countermeasures to avoid CBP’s law enforcement activities and exploit any vulnerabilities in CBP’s law enforcement efforts. »Cotton, however, was not convinced by the reasoning provided. »Of course, if the Biden-Harris administration impartially enforced our laws and deported illegal aliens regardless of their origin, terrorists wouldn’t be able to game the system in the manner you describe. »He later says that « the American people have a right to know who is crossing our border, especially when those illegal aliens have ties to terrorism. »CLICK HERE FOR MORE COVERAGE OF THE BORDER SECURITY CRISIS »And that right, contrary to your bizarre assertion, ‘far outweighs’ the privacy rights of illegal aliens suspected of terrorism,’ he said. « Honestly I can’t believe I even have to write that sentence. »The letter requests the information by Sept. 10.There were 172 encounters of nationals on the terror watchlist at the border between ports of entry last fiscal year and more than 560 at the ports of entry.Fox News’ Bill Melugin contributed to this report.
