Two dairy workers in California tested positive for H5 bird flu, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and the California Department of Public Health announced. The CDC said in a release that the two cases were unrelated – with the farmers working at different dairy farms in California’s Central Valley. »CDC continues to collaborate closely with California and other state public health officials to support state-run efforts to control the spread of H5N1 from infected animals to humans, » the agency said. Both individuals experienced mild symptoms, officials said, including conjunctivitis. Neither person reported respiratory symptoms or required hospitalization.BIRD FLU KILLS 47 TIGERS, 3 LIONS AND A PANTHER IN VIETNAM ZOOMS, STATE MEDIA REPORTSHealth officials said that the risks remain low for the public but has caused « rare, sporadic infections » among people who work with infected animals. »The virus is widespread in wild birds and has caused ongoing outbreaks among poultry in the United States since 2022, » the CDC said.In 2024, there have been 16 human cases in the U.S. of bird flu, including the two most recent infections in California.FIRST CASE OF HUMAN BIRD FLU DIAGNOSED WITHOUT EXPOSURE TO INFECTED ANIMALS, CDC SAYSSix of the 16 reported human cases have been linked to exposure to sick or infected dairy cows, the agency said. Nine cases had exposure to infected poultry. The government agency recommended that individuals should avoid contact with wild birds and sick or dead animals and not preparing or eating unpasteurized (raw) milk or raw cheese. The CDC also recommended that if you work with dairy cows or other animals that could be infected with H5N1 bird flu, to wear personal protective equipment (PPE) when in contact with (or around) dairy cows, raw milk, other animals, or surfaces and other items that might be contaminated with virus. The CDC recommends that if you get sick after close contact with infected animals, contact your local health department and a health care provider for testing.Symptoms of the bird flu include eye redness (conjunctivitis), mild flu-like upper respiratory symptoms, fever, cough, sore throat, difficulty breathing, runny or stuffy nose, and muscle aches.

Falcons stun Bucs in overtime behind Kirk Cousins’ franchise-record 509 passing yards

[ad_1]

Atlanta Falcons quarterback Kirk Cousins passed for 509 passing yards on Thursday night, breaking the team’s single-game franchise record, while leading a 36-30 win over the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Cousins broke the record on a night where the Falcons honored former franchise quarterback Matt Ryan, who previously held the record with 448. Backup wide receiver KhaDarel Hodge came onto the field in overtime to replace an injured player and stunned the Buccaneers on a 45-yard touchdown. « God is real, God is good, I pray for this, » Hodge said on the Amazon Prime broadcast after the game. « God was on my side, I just did what I had to do. »CLICK HERE FOR MORE SPORTS COVERAGE ON FOXNEWS.COMThe Falcons had appeared to blow a chance at pulling off a win multiple times late in the game. Atlanta trailed Tampa by just three points, 30-27, during an Atlanta drive in the fourth quarter. But a Kirk Cousins pass that was delivered perfectly to wide receiver Darnell Moody on third down was dropped. If Moody made the catch, it would have put the Falcons in the Buccaneers’ red zone, or more. After the drop, Falcons kicker Yonghoe Koo had a 54-yard field goal try blocked. The Falcons got the ball back again, down just three points after Buccaneers running back Bucky Irving fumbled deep inside Atlanta territory on the ensuing drive. But that drive went nowhere, as Cousins threw an interception on a fourth down conversion attempt. COLLEGE FOOTBALL TEAM STRANDED IN BUSES ON FLOODED INTERSTATE AMID HURRICANE HELENE DESTRUCTIONThe Falcons got the ball back again for one more chance to tie or win the game, still just down three with over a minute on the clock when Tampa punted after losing 14 years on the ensuing drive. Cousins led the Falcons back into field-goal range and clocked the ball with just one second remaining. A delay of game penalty extended Koo’s field goal try to 52 yards, but he nailed it to send the game to overtime. The Falcons then got the ball to start overtime, and Cousins put the offense in Tampa Bay territory on an 18-yard pass to Drake London. London was injured on the play, forcing Hodge to come off the bench and into the game in London’s place. The touchdown pass went to him on the very next play. The Falcons emerged victorious in a game between two teams representing states severely impacted by Hurricane Helene. Georgia and Florida are among the states most devastated by Helene’s destruction. The storm’s death toll as of Thursday rose to 33 in Georgia with $417 million in damage.Florida has seen multiple towns nearly wiped out, including the town of Clearwater Beach.Ahead of the game, the two quarterbacks of the respective teams, Cousins and Baker Mayfield, announced they will each donate $50,000 to Team Rubicon to help those affected by Hurricane Helene.Follow Fox News Digital’s sports coverage on X, and subscribe to the Fox News Sports Huddle newsletter.

75 days: Kamala Harris has yet to do formal press conference since emerging as Democratic nominee

[ad_1]

Vice President Kamala Harris has gone 75 days as the presumptive, and now, official Democratic nominee for president without holding an official press conference. Trump held his third news conference since the beginning of August last month in California, taking the opportunity to roast his opponent’s home state and hold forth on a number of topics, including crime, immigration and inflation.BERNIE SANDERS SAYS HARRIS DROPPING FAR-LEFT POLICIES ‘IN ORDER TO WIN THE ELECTION’Harris has stepped up her interviews in recent weeks, including doing radio hits and a solo sit-down with a Philadelphia TV station. She also spoke to MSNBC’s Stephanie Ruhle and she made time to hang out with supporter Oprah Winfrey last month at a star-studded campaign event. But as for when she’ll actually do a formal press conference as a candidate, that day may never come, at least while she’s still a candidate.Conservative Radio Libre host Jorge Bonilla feels Harris should do a press conference but said it’s almost « irrelevant » because she continues to get a pass. HARRIS DODGES QUESTION ON LOWERING PRICES BY DESCRIBING ‘MIDDLE-CLASS’ ROOTS: NEIGHBORS ‘PROUD OF THEIR LAWN’ »She is highly unlikely to do a press conference because the media have enabled and encouraged her ‘plexiglass basement’ strategy, wherein she preserves the illusion of being out there while remaining wholly inaccessible to the press and therefore unaccountable, » Bonilla told Fox News Digital. In her interview in Philadelphia, her answer citing her middle-class upbringing when asked about specifics of her economic policy drew sharp criticism.BARBARA WALTERS WOULD EXPECT KAMALA HARRIS TO DO INTERVIEWS, AUTHOR SAYS: ‘PART OF THE JOB OF BEING PRESIDENT' »You know, I grew up in a neighborhood of folks who were very proud of their lawn, » she said. « And I was raised to believe and to know that all people deserve dignity, and that we as Americans have a beautiful character. You know, we have ambitions and aspirations and dreams, but not everyone necessarily has access to the resources that can help them fuel those dreams and ambitions. « So when I talk about building an opportunity economy, it is very much with the mind of investing in the ambitions and aspirations and the incredible work ethic of the American people and creating opportunity for people, for example, to start a small business. »Fox News Digital’s Paul Steinhauser contributed to this report.

Pete Alonso sends New York Mets to NLDS with dramatic ninth-inning homer

[ad_1]

The New York Mets found late magic Thursday night off the bat of Pete Alonso, who launched a ninth inning home run into the Milwaukee night that led to a miraculous Mets comeback. The Mets came from behind to beat the Milwaukee Brewers, 4-2, to advance to the National League Division Series. The best-of-3 series-clinching wild card win sends the Mets to Philadelphia, where the Mets and Phillies begin the NLDS on Saturday.New York didn’t make things easy on themselves Thursday night in Milwaukee.CLICK HERE FOR MORE SPORTS COVERAGE ON FOXNEWS.COMTrailing 2-0 in the top of the ninth and two outs from elimination, New York rallied against Devin Williams to steal a 4-2 victory over the Milwaukee Brewers and move on to the National League Division Series.Francisco Lindor opened up the inning with a walk, and two batters later, Brandon Nimmo singled to put runners on the corners — that had been the first hit by a Met other than Lindor on the night, as Lindor had been 2-for-3, but everyone else combined to go 0-for-24.That brought up slugger Pete Alonso. The righty laced a pitch to opposite field that crept over the right field wall to give New York a 3-2 lead, causing pandemonium in the dugout and on the basepaths.Starling Marte added an RBI single for good measure to pad the lead. Because Edwin Diaz had pitched a part of the seventh and the entire eighth with the Mets trailing, the Mets brought in David Peterson for the save. He promptly allowed a leadoff single to Sal Frelick, who went back-to-back with Jake Bauers in the seventh, but he struck out Joey Ortiz and got Brice Turang to ground into a 6-6-3 double play to give the Mets the series victory. The miraculous victory is déjà vu for the Mets as it comes just three days after the Mets fought back from down 3-0 in the eighth, and 7-6 in the ninth, against the Atlanta Braves to clinch a postseason spot in their first game of a doubleheader.PADRES’ FERNANDO TATIS JR. DANCES SHIRTLESS IN LOCKER ROOM CELEBRATION AFTER WINNING WILD-CARD SERIESEverything looked like it was down the drain for the Mets, who, after pulling Jose Quintana following six scoreless innings, allowed back-to-back homers to start the seventh inning. However, Alonso’s blast was the first ever by a Met while trailing in the 9th inning or later of a winner-take-all postseason game, according to OPTA Stats. This also marks the first time since 2006 that both the Mets and New York Yankees are in the division series – it’s not too early to wonder about a Subway Series, right? The Mets will now face their NL East rival Philadelphia Phillies in the National League Division Series. Philly is the No. 2 seed in the NL, and it’s the first time the two teams have ever faced off in the postseason. The season series was as tight as it gets, with Philly winning seven of their 13 games. Colorado State wins in straight sets after deciding to play against team mired in trans player controversy

[ad_1]

As San Jose State University’s women’s volleyball team has been wrapped up in controversy, Colorado State wasn’t afraid. The Spartans have a transgender player, Blaire Fleming, on the roster, which has resulted in four teams forfeiting or canceling their matches against the school.Colorado State opted to play against the university, and it’s easy to see why, as they won their match on Thursday, three sets to none (25-18, 25-20, 25-20).CLICK HERE FOR MORE SPORTS COVERAGE ON FOXNEWS.COMIt was an up-and-down night for Fleming, who recorded a match-high 14 kills – however, Fleming also recorded 10 errors. Fleming’s kill percentage was just 9.5%, but Fleming was set up for the kill 42 times, by far the most out of anyone in the match. The loss marked the first for San Jose State this season.Thursday’s match came roughly 48 hours after Utah State became the fourth program to decide not to face Fleming and San Jose state.A San Jose State spokeperson also confirmed to Fox News Digital that the Aggies informed the team the match has been canceled, and Utah State will be assessed a loss due to forfeit. FEMALE ATHLETES ‘BLINDSIDED’ ON VOLLEYBALL COURT WITH TRANS PLAYER PROMPTS CIVIL RIGHTS COMPLAINT, LAWSUITSouthern Utah, Boise State and the University of Wyoming all did so. None of the three schools previously provided a reason behind the forfeit other than understanding the consequences to their win-loss records. When Boise State forfeited its match with SJSU, the NCAA provided OutKick with a statement in response. « College sports are the premier stage for women’s sports in America, and the NCAA members will continue to promote Title IX, make unprecedented investments in women’s sports and ensure fair competition for all student-athletes in all NCAA championships. »The 6-foot-1 Fleming has contributed to the Spartans’ success – Fleming’s 139.5 points and 119 kills both rank second on the team.San Jose State was slated to play Wyoming next, but they are one of the four programs to opt out of playing.Macy Petty, a Concerned Women of America legislative assistant and NCAA volleyball player, spoke with Fox News Digital’s Sarah Rumpf-Whitten about how players are feeling « blindsided » because the NCAA has not informed teams of the presence of transgender players on opposing squads. « There’s no informed consent for the schools or for the female athletes here. They’re totally blindsided when they walk up to the court, and they see that there’s a male athlete on the other side, » Petty said. Fox News’ Scott Thompson and Jackson Thompson contributed to this report.Follow Fox News Digital’s sports coverage on X, and subscribe to the Fox News Sports Huddle newsletter.

WATCH: Washington state woman robbed at gunpoint at ATM amid crime concerns

[ad_1]

A Washington state woman was stalked and robbed at gunpoint at an ATM amid a continued crime crisis raging on the West Coast.Surveillance video, obtained by FOX 13, showed the robbery taking place by a Bank of America in Parkland, Washington, a suburb of Seattle, on Thursday, Sept. 26.The footage captured a figure in a ski mask hiding in the shadows as an unsuspecting woman arrives at the bank and goes about withdrawing money from the ATM. After the woman had withdrawn her money, the suspect emerged from the bushes and approached the woman, holding her up at gunpoint and demanding her money.SEATTLE BUSINESS OWNERS WARN VIOLENT CRIME IS HAPPENING ON A NEAR HOURLY BASIS: ‘THIS IS MADNESS’The Pierce County Sheriff’s office said that the ski-masked suspect retreated – along with the $1,000 and the victim’s passport. »It’s a random act of violence, » Sergeant Darren Moss of the Pierce County Sheriff’s Department said. « That makes him extremely dangerous to our community, » he said. « We want to get this person in custody because we don’t want him to do this to someone else. »The ATM robbery comes after local business owners have voiced their continued concerns about the crime crisis.Pat Callahan, the CEO of Urban Renaissance Group, told the Business Journal that while there has been some improvement, the crime problem is still yet to be solved. He claimed that many tenants at his downtown property are considering leaving the area. »Really, what’s happening now is all the fentanyl use is bringing consistent crime to the area, and it’s festering, » he said.URG Executive Vice President Shawn Jackson echoed his sentiments and told the outlet that conditions have become « somewhat extreme. » He revealed that one individual recently started a garbage truck fire near the company’s Joshua Green Building. »These are property damage events that happen quite frequently, » he said. « We can’t let the challenges of several concentrated blocks in our downtown define our identity. » Commercial real estate broker Tom Graff said the current approach to crime is not working and is « not sustainable. »The business leader’s sentiment comes as the number of violent crimes in downtown Seattle fell by 10% in 2023 from 2022. It was the lowest number since 2018.Fox News Digital has reached out to the Pierce County Sheriff for comment.Fox News’ Nikolas Lanum contributed to this report.
