White House reporters ask zero questions about Hurricane Helene in surprise opportunity to press Biden

[ad_1]

Reporters had a unique opportunity to question President Biden when he made a surprise appearance at the White House press briefing on Friday, but didn’t ask about the historic disaster unfolding in the Southeast in the wake of Hurricane Helene. It was the first time that Biden appeared at a White House press briefing since taking office. The president spoke briefly about the suspended port workers strike and Friday’s positive jobs numbers, and he announced that he may request additional money from Congress to fund Hurricane Helene relief efforts. But there was no follow-up from the press on hurricane relief. After thanking the president for his presence, the first reporter asked about Republicans casting doubt on his economic numbers, saying, « Florida Sen. Marco Rubio described today’s jobs report as having fake numbers. What do you make of that? And how worried are you that many Americans are hearing that the jobs numbers aren’t real? »TRUMP TARGETS BIDEN, HARRIS OVER FEDERAL RESPONSE TO HURRICANE: ‘INCOMPETENTLY MANAGED’The crisis in the Middle East was the biggest topic, with questions about Biden’s comments about strikes on Iranian oil facilities, Israeli plans to retaliate, possible U.S. sanctions, and worries about Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu trying to influence the U.S. election.Election security and the peaceful transfer of power were also top of mind for reporters. »The election is a month away. One, I’d like to know how you’re feeling about how this election is going. And then also, do you have confidence that it will be a free and fair election and that it will be peaceful? » one reporter asked. « Are you making any preparations, getting security briefings related to domestic security? »The only mention of Hurricane Helene, with a death toll topping 230, was in a question about Vice President Kamala Harris’ role in the administration. »There have obviously been a number of crises that the country has been facing over the past several days with the hurricane, with the port strike, with the situation in the Middle East. Can you talk about how your vice president, who is running for the presidency, has worked on these crises and what role she has played over the past several days? » a reporter asked.BIDEN GETS DEFENSIVE WHEN PUSHED ON WHO’S ‘COMMANDING’ HURRICANE HELENE RESPONSEThe Biden-Harris administration has come under fire from former President Trump for the federal response to the devastation left by Helene, already one of the deadliest hurricanes this century. The White House has pushed back hard against these criticisms, emphasizing that Biden has coordinated the federal response, including approving emergency declarations and deploying 1,000 active-duty soldiers to support search-and-rescue efforts. More than 4,800 personnel from FEMA and other agencies have been deployed to North Carolina and neighboring states impacted by Helene. Additionally, FEMA has shipped over 8.5 million meals, more than 7 million liters of water, 150 generators and over 220,000 tarps to aid response efforts, according to the White House. As of Friday, the federal government has provided more than $45 million in Individual assistance to survivors affected by the storm, White House press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre said, including in the form of one-time $750 payments from FEMA to qualified applicants in Florida, Georgia, North Carolina, South Carolina and Virginia. While Biden ended his own press conference dry spell, Harris has not held a formal news conference since emerging as the Democratic nominee when Biden dropped out in July.

Davante Adams posts cryptic message of famed American poet amid trade speculation

[ad_1]

Davante Adams may have just told everyone his next destination. The Las Vegas Raiders wide receiver has reportedly requested a trade from the team amid their quarterback issues and struggles.Reports have surfaced that he wants to be reunited with either Aaron Rodgers or Derek Carr, but if his Instagram Story is any message, those reports were wrong.CLICK HERE FOR MORE SPORTS COVERAGE ON FOXNEWS.COMOn Friday afternoon, Adams posted a still photo of poet Edgar Allan Poe.Poe, of course, is most notable for his poem « The Raven. » Poe was a Baltimore native, and the Ravens got their team name from the writing.Later on, he posted a quote attributed to the poet that read, « Believe nothing you hear and half of what you see. »The 31-year-old receiver was rumored to be traded last season as the Raiders struggled under former head coach Josh McDaniels, and the Jets were on the list then with Rodgers, his former quarterback with the Green Bay Packers, on the roster. While the Raiders balked on real trade talks for Adams last season, they have reportedly told teams they would « consider » Adams if a second-round pick were involved in a package, as well as additional compensation, according to ESPN.CHIEFS PLACE RASHEE RICE ON INJURED RESERVE; SEVERITY OF KNEE INJURY STILL UNKNOWNAnd this comes after Raiders head coach Antonio Pierce was spotted liking an Instagram post suggesting that Adams has played his final game with Las Vegas. Adams wasn’t available for the Raiders this past Sunday in the win over the Cleveland Browns, as he is considered week-to-week with a hamstring injury. He’s been declared out this week, as well.As the Raiders employ Gardner Minshew at quarterback this season after a carousel in 2023, which included Jimmy Garoppolo and Aidan O’Connell, Adams has 18 receptions for 209 yards and a touchdown through three games. Fox News’ Scott Thompson contributed to this report.Follow Fox News Digital’s sports coverage on X, and subscribe to the Fox News Sports Huddle newsletter.

Mets play broadcaster’s viral call of Pete Alonso’s home run on plane, give him standing ovation

[ad_1]

The New York Mets are widely regarded as having the best announcers in the sport, and Thursday night offered an example why.Howie Rose, who has been calling Mets games since 1995 and grew up a fan of the team, was on the call on 880 AM in New York, and both Rose and Pete Alonso delivered in the huge moment.Trailing 2-0 and two outs away from elimination, Alonso blasted a three-run home run to give New York a 3-2 lead. They eventually won, 4-2, to advance past the Milwaukee Brewers into the divisional round.CLICK HERE FOR MORE SPORTS COVERAGE ON FOXNEWS.COMIf the Mets wind up winning it all, Rose’s call will surely be on the highlight video. »It’s gone! He did it! He did it! Pete Alonso with the most memorable home run of his career! » Rose exclaimed as the ball trickled over the fence. « Pete Alonso keeps this fairy-tale season going with the fairy-tale swing of his career! 3-2 New York! »Rose and the Mets are headed to Philadelphia for the NLDS against the Phillies after the champagne showers. While on the plane, though, with Rose sitting near the front and the rest of the team several rows back, someone played the call on the plane’s speakers.Rose was shy at first, even covering his ears, but Mets players gave him a standing ovation. The broadcaster turned around, pointed at Alonso and saluted, and the two shared a huge embrace.PETE ALONSO SENDS NEW YORK METS TO NLDS WITH DRAMATIC NINTH-INNING HOMERRose was inducted into the team’s Hall of Fame along with TV broadcaster Gary Cohen last year. Thursday night’s home run call automatically goes into Rose’s Mt. Rushmore of calls. Rose was also behind the mic for Mike Piazza’s home run in the Mets’ first home game after 9/11 and Stéphane Matteau’s goal in 1994 to send the New York Rangers to the Stanley Cup Final. The miraculous victory is déjà vu for the Mets. It came just three days after the Mets fought back from down 3-0 in the eighth and 7-6 in the ninth against the Atlanta Braves to clinch a postseason spot in their first game of a doubleheader.Everything looked like it was down the drain for the Mets, who, after pulling Jose Quintana following six scoreless innings, allowed back-to-back homers to start the seventh inning. Alonso’s blast was the first ever by a Met while trailing in the 9th inning or later of a winner-take-all postseason game, according to OPTA Stats. This marks the first time the Mets and Phillies will play each other in the postseason. The first pitch is scheduled for Saturday at 4:08 p.m. ET.Follow Fox News Digital’s sports coverage on X, and subscribe to the Fox News Sports Huddle newsletter.

Blackface photo shakes up toss-up House district in NY

[ad_1]

A close House race in New York was rocked by an October surprise when photos surfaced of the incumbent Republican congressman in blackface as part of a Halloween costume years ago.Rep. Michael Lawler, R-N.Y., who is white, is pictured dressed like pop sensation Michael Jackson, complete with bronzer to darken his face in an October 2006 photo reported by the New York Times. Lawler does not dispute the photo’s authenticity and has issued an apology to anyone who has taken offense, though he said it was not his intention to dress in blackface. »As has been well-documented – most recently by the Daily Beast – I was a so-called ‘Super Fan’ of Michael Jackson, so much so that I was mentioned by name in his biography for my outspoken support of him and the Jackson Family.  I loved Michael’s music, was awed by him as a performer, and by his impact on pop culture, » Lawler said in a statement. « One of my greatest memories is attending his concert at Madison Square Garden before his untimely death.  « When attempting to imitate Michael’s legendary dance moves at a college Halloween party eighteen years ago, the ugly practice of black face was the furthest thing from my mind. Let me be clear, this is not that. Rather, my costume was intended as the sincerest form of flattery, a genuine homage to one of my childhood idols since I was a little kid trying to moonwalk through my mom’s kitchen.  FOX NEWS POWER RANKINGS: HARRIS TICKS UP AND SENATE REPUBLICANS TAKE CHARGE »I am a student of history and for anyone who takes offense to the photo, I am sorry.  All you can do is live and learn, and I appreciate everyone’s grace along the way, » he said. The 38-year-old Lawler, a moderate first-term lawmaker from the Hudson Valley, is seen as a rising star in the GOP conference who is running for re-election in a suburban swing district. His Democratic opponent in New York’s 17th Congressional District is former Rep. Mondaire Jones, a Black man. The Jones campaign did not respond to a request for comment. The race is one of 22 toss-up contests that may well determine which party controls the House of Representatives next year, according to Fox News’ Power Rankings.  Lawler is not the first politician to be wrapped up in recent controversy over a costume that resembled blackface. Former Virginia Gov. Ralph Northam, a Democrat, faced calls to resign after a photo from his medical school yearbook surfaced which pictured men in Ku Klux Klan robes and blackface. Northam denied he was in the photo but admitted he once used shoe polish to darken his face for a dance contest in the 1980s in which he too dressed like Jackson.NEW YORK REPUBLICAN WRANGLES WITH CNN HOST HITTING TRUMP’S ECONOMIC POLICIESCanadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau also faced controversy in 2019 when photos surfaced of him wearing blackface in 2001. The prime minister said in an interview after the fact that he could not give a definitive number on how many times he had worn blackface. Lawler was photographed in his Jackson costume in New York City when he was a sophomore at Manhattan College, now Manhattan University, a Catholic school in the Bronx where only three percent of the student population is Black, according to the New York Times. Lawler, who was class valedictorian in 2009, was well-known for his love of Michael Jackson, the paper reported. When Lawler was a high school senior in 2005, he flew from New York to California to attend parts Jackson’s criminal trial. The musician had faced allegations of molesting a 13-year-old boy at his Neverland Ranch, though Jackson was eventually acquitted. FORMER DEMOCRATIC REP MONDAIRE JONES LAUNCHES COMEBACK BID FOR CRUCIAL SEAT THAT HELPED GOP TAKE HOUSEJackson biographer J. Randy Taraborrelli recounted in his book how he helped get Lawler into the courtroom, according to the Daily Beast. Taraborrelli wrote in « Michael Jackson: The Magic, The Madness, The Whole Story » that the teen had been « so disgusted » by testimony against Jackson « that he couldn’t help but mutter something derogatory under his breath. » In Taraborrelli’s account, Lawler was overheard by court officials and « tossed right out of the courtroom. » The photos in question were posted to Facebook and depict Lawler dressed in a jacket reminiscent of the one Jackson wore in the « Thriller » music video. The New York Times cited a person familiar with the costume who said that Lawler had used bronzer borrowed from female classmates to darken his skin. Lawler’s 2022 victory was one of several Republican victories in crucial New York districts, despite the state’s status as reliably blue overall. The 17th includes stretches through four suburban counties outside of New York City: Dutchess, Putnam, Rockland and Westchester.Fox News Digital’s Emma Colton and Emily Robertson contributed to this report.

Melania Trump’s pro-choice stand isn’t that different from other Republican first ladies

[ad_1]

Melania Trump is not the only first lady to express pro-choice views. She joins several former Republican first ladies who have shared similar perspectives, often in their memoirs, despite this stance historically contrasting with the GOP platform.Other spouses of Republican presidents, such as Pat Nixon, Betty Ford, Nancy Reagan, Barbara Bush and Laura Bush, have been recorded either during or after their husbands’ tenure in office expressing pro-choice views. »I feel very strongly that it was the best thing in the world when the Supreme Court voted to legalize abortion and, in my words, bring it out of the backwoods and put it in the hospital where it belongs, » Betty Ford said in a CBS News’ « 60 Minutes » interview in 1975, two years after Roe v. Wade was handed down.MELANIA TRUMP’S ABORTION VIEWS IN NEW MEMOIR SPUR OUTRAGE FROM PRO-LIFERS: ‘SHE IS WRONG’Following Ford’s comments on premarital sex, marijuana and abortion during the CBS interview, then-President Gerald Ford reportedly joked that she had cost him votes. As a more conservative first lady, Nancy Reagan avoided taking a public stance against abortion that would put her at odds with former President Ronald Reagan. However, she later revealed her personal position on the issue. »I’m against abortion, I don’t believe in abortion, » Reagan said at George Washington University in 1994, five years after her husband left the Oval Office. « On the other hand, I believe in a woman’s choice. So, it puts me somewhere in the middle, but I don’t know what you’d call that. »Barbara Bush, former President George H. W. Bush’s wife, was more reserved in her public statements about abortion and was at odds with her husband’s anti-abortion stance. While she was not as outspoken as Betty Ford, she wrote in her 1994 memoir, « I hate abortions, but I just could not make that choice for someone else. »Former first lady Laura Bush, wife of former President George W. Bush and daughter-in-law to Barbara Bush, also differed with the former Presidents Bush on abortion. PRO-LIFERS BLAST TRUMP ‘BETRAYAL’ WITH SHIFTING ABORTION STANCE, ANSWER ON FLORIDA AMENDMENT 4″I think it’s important that it remain legal, because I think it’s important for people for medical reasons and other reasons, » she said in an interview with Larry King Live in 2010. Pat Nixon, then-President Richard Nixon’s wife, told reporters during a 1972 press conference – as Roe v. Wade arguments were being considered by the Supreme Court – that she supported the right to choose an abortion, but opposed « wholesale abortion on demand. »Trump, wife of Republican presidential candidate and former President Donald Trump, wrote the memoir entitled « Melania » that is scheduled to come out on Oct. 8, per the Amazon release date. In the book, according to a preview by The Guardian, she expresses a viewpoint closely aligned with that of former first ladies before her. »It is imperative to guarantee that women have autonomy in deciding their preference of having children, based on their own convictions, free from any intervention or pressure from the government, » Trump reportedly wrote.VANCE, WALZ SPAR OVER ABORTION AND IMMIGRATION IN FIRST AND ONLY VP DEBATE « Why should anyone other than the woman herself have the power to determine what she does with her own body? A woman’s fundamental right of individual liberty, to her own life, grants her the authority to terminate her pregnancy if she wishes. »Restricting a woman’s right to choose whether to terminate an unwanted pregnancy is the same as denying her control over her own body. I have carried this belief with me throughout my entire adult life. »The former first lady drew criticism from pro-life advocates on social media after the excerpts were published just a month away from Election Day. This year, the Republican Party’s official platform also softened its language on abortion, as former President Trump also said he would not support a federal abortion ban.

Elon Musk to attend Trump Pennsylvania rally at site of assassination attempt

[ad_1]

Elon Musk says he will « be there to support » Donald Trump on Saturday when the former president returns to Butler, Pennsylvania to hold a rally at the site where the first assassination attempt against him unfolded earlier this year. The Republican presidential nominee is slated to speak on Oct. 5 at the Butler Farm Show fairgrounds in the suburb north of Pittsburgh.  « I will be there to support! » Musk wrote on X late Thursday in response to an image Trump shared promoting the upcoming event. « Butler on Saturday – historic! » Trump wrote on X alongside an image of him raising his fist that was taken on July 13, moments after he had been shot. OBAMA TO CAMPAIGN FOR HARRIS IN PENNSYLVANIA, OTHER KEY STATES Musk had said following that rally that « I fully endorse President Trump and hope for his rapid recovery. » Trump’s campaign said last week that « President Donald J. Trump will return to Butler, Pennsylvania, to hold a rally on the very same ground where he came within a quarter of an inch of losing his life less than three months ago. » During a rally last Wednesday in North Carolina, Trump said that he wanted to return to the venue in Butler to « finish our speech. » « As you know, there have been two assassination attempts on my life that we know of… and the first case in Butler, Pennsylvania, great place, and we’re going back to Butler, » he said. « We’re going to go back and finish our speech. » HARRIS LEADS TRUMP BY 2 IN NATIONAL POLL, BUT SHOWS VULNERABILITIES WITH NON-WHITE VOTERS Trump’s campaign said that the former president would honor those lost in the assassination attempt during the rally. Corey Comperatore, 50, was a firefighter and a father of two daughters. He « historically sacrificed his life to shield his wife and daughters » during the assassination attempt against Trump, the campaign said. Trump will also recognize the two other Americans who were wounded by the shooter, David Dutch and James Copenhaver.  « He will express his deep gratitude to law enforcement and first responders and thank the entire community for their outpouring of love and support in the wake of the attack, » the campaign said. « And when a shooter attacked our democracy and tried to end this movement, President Trump will return to the site, joined by tens of thousands of proud citizens, and together, they will celebrate a unifying vision for America’s future in an event like the world has never seen before, » his campaign added. Fox News’ Sarah Rumpf-Whitten and Paul Steinhauser contributed to this report.

Sanxingdui Ruins were discovered accidentally by a farmer; has since been the site of over 60K relics

[ad_1]

Sanxingdui Ruins is an archaeological site located in Southwest China’s Sichuan Province. The site has undergone heavy exploration through the years, with thousands of notable artifacts coming out of excavations. The Sanxingdui Ruins lie in Guanghan City. The site was first discovered in 1929 by a farmer who came across jade and stone artifacts while repairing a sewage ditch, according to Live Science. It was not until 1934 that an official scientific excavation commenced, according to China Daily. Since that first excavation, research and discovery has continued at the site. During the 1980s, the excavation of two pits was conducted, where over 1,000 artifacts were unearthed, according to China Daily. Those finds included figurines, human face masks and more. IRISH FARMER FINDS NEAR 60-POUND SLAB OF ANCIENT BOG BUTTER ON HIS LAND BY ‘PURE LUCK’Between 2019 and 2020, six more pits were excavated, according to the source, with more than 500 artifacts uncovered, including seashells, silk, ritual bronze vessels and gold masks. There has been an abundance of notable finds from the troves of artifacts discovered at the Sanxingdui Ruins. Among more recent discoveries, gold masks have been among the significant finds at the site. For example, in September 2022, it was announced by China’s National Cultural Heritage Administration that a 3,000-year-old gold mask was discovered at the site among royal tombs. MOM, SON DIG UP ANCIENT OBJECT OFTEN FOUND NEAR BURIAL GROUNDS WHILE GARDENINGThe ancient mask dated back to the Shang Dynasty, ARTNews reported at the time, and predated another gold mask that was found the fall before at the Sanxingdui Ruins. In 2021, a complete gold mask weighing about 100 grams was unearthed at the site, according to China’s Xinhua News Agency. The gold mask was larger, but weighed less than another fragment of a gold mask that was found at the site earlier on in 2021, according to the Sichuan Provincial Cultural Relics and Archaeology Research Institute. Since 2022, there have been more than 4,000 artifacts unearthed from the Sanxingdui Ruins, which include pottery, jadeware and stoneware, according to China’s Xinhua News Agency. To date, there have been over 60,000 relics found at the site, according to the source. The Sanxingdui Ruins is widely acknowledged as one of the « world’s greatest archaeological finds of the 20th century, » according to China’s Xinhua News Agency. Experts believe that the Sanxingdui Ruins are the remains of the ancient Shu Kingdom. The Sanxingdui Museum first opened its doors in 1997, though it has been expanded since, and has provided an opportunity for visitors to see first hand many of the artifacts that have been found at the archaeological site through the years.

Kim Kardashian calls on Menendez brothers to be freed, citing sexual abuse claims: ‘Not monsters’

[ad_1]

Kim Kardashian believes the Menendez brothers should be freed from prison. The reality star is the latest person to weigh in on the controversial pair of convicted murderers. Prosecutors in Los Angeles are reviewing new evidence to determine whether the siblings should be serving life sentences for killing their parents in their Beverly Hills mansion more than 35 years ago, the city’s district attorney said on Thursday. The case is being highlighted in a new Netflix scripted series and an upcoming documentary. »You think you know the story of Lyle and Erik Menendez, » Kardashian wrote in her opinion essay for NBC News published on Thursday. « I certainly thought I did. » »In 1989, the brothers, aged 21 and 18, respectively, viciously shot and killed their parents in their Beverly Hills home, » she wrote. « In 1996, after two trials, they were sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of parole. As is often the case, this story is much more complex than it appears on the surface. »Kardashian is a prison reform advocate who previously worked with the Trump White House to reduce sentences for several convicts found guilty of non-violent offenses. She also spoke at the White House earlier this year about criminal justice. The mother of four centered the argument in her essay mainly on the brothers’ claims that they were emotionally, physically and sexually abused by their parents and feared for their lives. MENENDEZ BROTHER, WHO GUNNED DOWN PARENTS, SLAMS NEW SHOW FOR ‘DISHONEST PORTRAYAL’ « Following years of abuse and a real fear for their lives, Erik and Lyle chose what they thought at the time was their only way out — an unimaginable way to escape their living nightmare, » Kardashian wrote. She said that after the jury was deadlocked in their first trial, the judge decided many of their abuse claims were inadmissible in the second trial. « Their only way out of prison now is death, » Kardashian said, writing that their first televised trial became « entertainment for the nation, » and that they were portrayed as « monsters and sensationalized eye candy » by the media, « two arrogant, rich kids from Beverly Hills who killed their parents out of greed. » »There was no room for empathy, let alone sympathy, » she noted.DO MENENDEZ BROTHERS STAND A CHANCE AT FREEDOM? »Erik and Lyle had no chance of a fair trial against this backdrop, » the 43-year-old claimed, adding that there was a stigma on male victims of sexual abuse at the time. « Can anyone honestly deny that the justice system would have treated the Menendez sisters more leniently? » she postulated, adding, « Many people believe the crimes the brothers committed are unforgivable — but what about the decades of alleged abuse they suffered as children? »WATCH ‘MENENDEZ BROTHERS: MONSTERS OR MISUNDERSTOOD?’ EXCLUSIVELY ON FOX NATIONShe said she had recently spent time with the brothers, who she said have « exemplary disciplinary records » in prison. They « are not monsters. They are kind, intelligent, and honest men, » she argued. Kardashian also said that one of the prison wardens told her he would be comfortable having the brothers as neighbors. While Kardashian called the murders of their parents « inexcusable, » she said the brothers were treated more like « serial killers » than two men who had « endured years of sexual abuse by the very people they loved and trusted. »She added, « I don’t believe that spending their entire natural lives incarcerated was the right punishment for this complex case. Had this crime been committed and trialed today, I believe the outcome would have been dramatically different. « I also strongly believe that they were denied a fair second trial and that the exclusion of crucial abuse evidence denied Erik and Lyle the opportunity to fully present their case, further undermining the fairness of their conviction. »However, not everyone agrees with Kardashian’s assessment. « If they were brought to trial again today, they would be found guilty, » Clark Fogg, a retired senior forensic specialist with the Beverly Hills Police Department who investigated the murders, told Fox News Digital this week. Fogg believes the brothers’ motive for the murders had to do with « greed and money. »LISTEN TO MENENDEZ BROTHERS JAILHOUSE PHONE CALL: »Why did they even have to kill their mom in the first place? » Fogg said. « If you killed Mr. Menendez separately from her, she would end up getting the inheritance, right? So they had to eliminate both of them in order to have the inheritance. »Fogg investigated the Menendez brothers’ case in 1989. He took photos and preserved evidence at the crime scene, attended the autopsies and took the stand during both trials. When speaking with Fox News Digital, he painted a horrific picture of the crime scene. « One of the detectives had to actually hold a golf umbrella over my head as I was taking photos because, every so often, things would be falling from the ceiling, » Fogg said. « It comes down to one thing. The reason why they’re in jail is that they killed their mother and father brutally, not poison them, but shotgun them to death to a point that they were all over the ceiling. … That’s how brutally they were murdered. »Fogg said it appeared their mother was trying to escape when she was killed because there was blood on the soles of her shoes. CLICK HERE TO GET THE FOX NEWS APP »Even at that point, they kept on killing her with… gunshot blasts, one after another, » he told Fox News Digital.

Trump has a six-point advantage over Harris on the issue, while she is viewed far more favorably on abortion.  Fox News Digital’s Victoria Balara contributed to this report.

Serial killers hide as long-haul truckers to terrorize America’s highways, expert says

[ad_1]

Serial killers could be working as long-haul truckers in the United States. The FBI launched its Highway Serial Killings Initiative in 2009 after analysts noticed a pattern of murdered women – most living transient lifestyles involving drug abuse and prostitution – who had been killed and dumped along the Interstate 40 corridor in Oklahoma, Texas, Arkansas and Mississippi, according to its website.Using the Violent Criminal Apprehension Program, which is a national database between law enforcement branches that contains information on homicides, sexual assaults, missing people and unidentified human remains, analysts amassed a list of hundreds of victims along highways nationwide and hundreds of suspects, predominantly long-haul truckers. FBI’S ‘FLAWED’ CRIME DATA HIGHLIGHTED BY CHICAGO’S 118 ‘MISSING MURDERS’: EXPERTFrank Figliuzzi, a former assistant director of the FBI who spent 25 years with the agency, released a book this year on the subject, « Long Haul: Hunting the Highway Serial Killers. »In the book, he writes that there have been approximately 850 murders along America’s highways since 1980, and that about 200 of them are unsolved.FOLLOW THE FOX TRUE CRIME TEAM ON X »Oftentimes, the people who are at the highest risk for being kidnapped or harmed by a serial killer are the people who are the most invisible, the least likely to have connections to their families and may or may not have a trafficker, » said Dominique Roe-Sepowitz, the director of Arizona State University’s Office of Sex Trafficking Intervention Research. »The casual reference [to a woman selling sex at truck stops along interstate highways] is a ‘Lot Lizard.’ They are often very transient and often suffer from substance abuse disorders. They are very likely to not be missed, to be easily lured in by a truck driver with some money, » she said. « It’s a low level of screening and a low level of personal safety. »ALABAMA PLUMBER ALLEGEDLY TRIED TO HIRE HIT MAN TO KILL WIFE, 6 ADULT KIDS: ‘TAKE YOUR TIME’There are between 300,000 and 500,000 long-haul truckers in America, NPR reported, and the majority of them are upstanding workers committed to keeping the supply chain moving. But the mobile nature of truckers’ lifestyles and the multiple jurisdictions that they travel through lends itself to a scarcity of witnesses and a lower chance of getting caught should they pick up, murder and dump vulnerable sex workers and transients. »There are 25 long-haul truckers already in prison for multiple murders, » Figliuzzi told NewsNation. « There have been cases in the greater Cincinnati and the larger Ohio area. »DOJ INSPECTOR GENERAL DOES NOT DENY FBI INFORMANTS WERE AMONG JAN 6 CROWDThe program led to the capture and arrest of suspects believed to be responsible for homicides across the country, according to the FBI’s website.Supervisory Special Agent Richard J. Kolko of the FBI’s National Press Office told Fox News Digital last week that the program is « no more, » but he did not divulge specifics of the program’s results or what led to its closure. SIGN UP TO GET THE TRUE CRIME NEWSLETTERRoe-Sepowitz said the halted program is « just one more cut in a very bleeding situation where women who are vulnerable are simply not being seen. » »It’s one more way that people can take advantage and participate in violence against girls and women, » she said. « There is no national tracking of traffickers. » GET REAL TIME UPDATES DIRECTLY ON THE TRUE CRIME HUB

« Without that unit at the FBI level, that interstate level, there is nothing that is connecting those crimes, » she continued. « This is a loss for intelligence. They won’t see the patterns because who else is looking for them? The answer is no one. »Roe-Sepowitz noted that most long-haul truckers are certainly not serial killers or sex traffickers. In fact, one group called Truckers Against Trafficking has trained 235,329 truckers to spot and intervene in human trafficking situations, according to its website. »Truckers are not always villains, » Roe-Sepowitz said. « They can be part of the solution. They can look out for victims. They can help rescue people. They can be part of our caring, loving community. But something needs to change. »

[ad_1]

Two dairy workers in California tested positive for H5 bird flu, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and the California Department of Public Health announced. The CDC said in a release that the two cases were unrelated – with the farmers working at different dairy farms in California’s Central Valley. »CDC continues to collaborate closely with California and other state public health officials to support state-run efforts to control the spread of H5N1 from infected animals to humans, » the agency said. Both individuals experienced mild symptoms, officials said, including conjunctivitis. Neither person reported respiratory symptoms or required hospitalization.BIRD FLU KILLS 47 TIGERS, 3 LIONS AND A PANTHER IN VIETNAM ZOOMS, STATE MEDIA REPORTSHealth officials said that the risks remain low for the public but has caused « rare, sporadic infections » among people who work with infected animals. »The virus is widespread in wild birds and has caused ongoing outbreaks among poultry in the United States since 2022, » the CDC said.In 2024, there have been 16 human cases in the U.S. of bird flu, including the two most recent infections in California.FIRST CASE OF HUMAN BIRD FLU DIAGNOSED WITHOUT EXPOSURE TO INFECTED ANIMALS, CDC SAYSSix of the 16 reported human cases have been linked to exposure to sick or infected dairy cows, the agency said. Nine cases had exposure to infected poultry. The government agency recommended that individuals should avoid contact with wild birds and sick or dead animals and not preparing or eating unpasteurized (raw) milk or raw cheese. The CDC also recommended that if you work with dairy cows or other animals that could be infected with H5N1 bird flu, to wear personal protective equipment (PPE) when in contact with (or around) dairy cows, raw milk, other animals, or surfaces and other items that might be contaminated with virus. The CDC recommends that if you get sick after close contact with infected animals, contact your local health department and a health care provider for testing.Symptoms of the bird flu include eye redness (conjunctivitis), mild flu-like upper respiratory symptoms, fever, cough, sore throat, difficulty breathing, runny or stuffy nose, and muscle aches.

Falcons stun Bucs in overtime behind Kirk Cousins’ franchise-record 509 passing yards

[ad_1]

Atlanta Falcons quarterback Kirk Cousins passed for 509 passing yards on Thursday night, breaking the team’s single-game franchise record, while leading a 36-30 win over the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Cousins broke the record on a night where the Falcons honored former franchise quarterback Matt Ryan, who previously held the record with 448. Backup wide receiver KhaDarel Hodge came onto the field in overtime to replace an injured player and stunned the Buccaneers on a 45-yard touchdown. « God is real, God is good, I pray for this, » Hodge said on the Amazon Prime broadcast after the game. « God was on my side, I just did what I had to do. »CLICK HERE FOR MORE SPORTS COVERAGE ON FOXNEWS.COMThe Falcons had appeared to blow a chance at pulling off a win multiple times late in the game. Atlanta trailed Tampa by just three points, 30-27, during an Atlanta drive in the fourth quarter. But a Kirk Cousins pass that was delivered perfectly to wide receiver Darnell Moody on third down was dropped. If Moody made the catch, it would have put the Falcons in the Buccaneers’ red zone, or more. After the drop, Falcons kicker Yonghoe Koo had a 54-yard field goal try blocked. The Falcons got the ball back again, down just three points after Buccaneers running back Bucky Irving fumbled deep inside Atlanta territory on the ensuing drive. But that drive went nowhere, as Cousins threw an interception on a fourth down conversion attempt. COLLEGE FOOTBALL TEAM STRANDED IN BUSES ON FLOODED INTERSTATE AMID HURRICANE HELENE DESTRUCTIONThe Falcons got the ball back again for one more chance to tie or win the game, still just down three with over a minute on the clock when Tampa punted after losing 14 years on the ensuing drive. Cousins led the Falcons back into field-goal range and clocked the ball with just one second remaining. A delay of game penalty extended Koo’s field goal try to 52 yards, but he nailed it to send the game to overtime. The Falcons then got the ball to start overtime, and Cousins put the offense in Tampa Bay territory on an 18-yard pass to Drake London. London was injured on the play, forcing Hodge to come off the bench and into the game in London’s place. The touchdown pass went to him on the very next play. The Falcons emerged victorious in a game between two teams representing states severely impacted by Hurricane Helene. Georgia and Florida are among the states most devastated by Helene’s destruction. The storm’s death toll as of Thursday rose to 33 in Georgia with $417 million in damage.Florida has seen multiple towns nearly wiped out, including the town of Clearwater Beach.Ahead of the game, the two quarterbacks of the respective teams, Cousins and Baker Mayfield, announced they will each donate $50,000 to Team Rubicon to help those affected by Hurricane Helene.Follow Fox News Digital’s sports coverage on X, and subscribe to the Fox News Sports Huddle newsletter.

75 days: Kamala Harris has yet to do formal press conference since emerging as Democratic nominee

[ad_1]

Vice President Kamala Harris has gone 75 days as the presumptive, and now, official Democratic nominee for president without holding an official press conference. Trump held his third news conference since the beginning of August last month in California, taking the opportunity to roast his opponent’s home state and hold forth on a number of topics, including crime, immigration and inflation.BERNIE SANDERS SAYS HARRIS DROPPING FAR-LEFT POLICIES ‘IN ORDER TO WIN THE ELECTION’Harris has stepped up her interviews in recent weeks, including doing radio hits and a solo sit-down with a Philadelphia TV station. She also spoke to MSNBC’s Stephanie Ruhle and she made time to hang out with supporter Oprah Winfrey last month at a star-studded campaign event. But as for when she’ll actually do a formal press conference as a candidate, that day may never come, at least while she’s still a candidate.Conservative Radio Libre host Jorge Bonilla feels Harris should do a press conference but said it’s almost « irrelevant » because she continues to get a pass. HARRIS DODGES QUESTION ON LOWERING PRICES BY DESCRIBING ‘MIDDLE-CLASS’ ROOTS: NEIGHBORS ‘PROUD OF THEIR LAWN’ »She is highly unlikely to do a press conference because the media have enabled and encouraged her ‘plexiglass basement’ strategy, wherein she preserves the illusion of being out there while remaining wholly inaccessible to the press and therefore unaccountable, » Bonilla told Fox News Digital. In her interview in Philadelphia, her answer citing her middle-class upbringing when asked about specifics of her economic policy drew sharp criticism.BARBARA WALTERS WOULD EXPECT KAMALA HARRIS TO DO INTERVIEWS, AUTHOR SAYS: ‘PART OF THE JOB OF BEING PRESIDENT' »You know, I grew up in a neighborhood of folks who were very proud of their lawn, » she said. « And I was raised to believe and to know that all people deserve dignity, and that we as Americans have a beautiful character. You know, we have ambitions and aspirations and dreams, but not everyone necessarily has access to the resources that can help them fuel those dreams and ambitions. « So when I talk about building an opportunity economy, it is very much with the mind of investing in the ambitions and aspirations and the incredible work ethic of the American people and creating opportunity for people, for example, to start a small business. »Fox News Digital’s Paul Steinhauser contributed to this report.

Pete Alonso sends New York Mets to NLDS with dramatic ninth-inning homer

[ad_1]

The New York Mets found late magic Thursday night off the bat of Pete Alonso, who launched a ninth inning home run into the Milwaukee night that led to a miraculous Mets comeback. The Mets came from behind to beat the Milwaukee Brewers, 4-2, to advance to the National League Division Series. The best-of-3 series-clinching wild card win sends the Mets to Philadelphia, where the Mets and Phillies begin the NLDS on Saturday.New York didn’t make things easy on themselves Thursday night in Milwaukee.CLICK HERE FOR MORE SPORTS COVERAGE ON FOXNEWS.COMTrailing 2-0 in the top of the ninth and two outs from elimination, New York rallied against Devin Williams to steal a 4-2 victory over the Milwaukee Brewers and move on to the National League Division Series.Francisco Lindor opened up the inning with a walk, and two batters later, Brandon Nimmo singled to put runners on the corners — that had been the first hit by a Met other than Lindor on the night, as Lindor had been 2-for-3, but everyone else combined to go 0-for-24.That brought up slugger Pete Alonso. The righty laced a pitch to opposite field that crept over the right field wall to give New York a 3-2 lead, causing pandemonium in the dugout and on the basepaths.Starling Marte added an RBI single for good measure to pad the lead. Because Edwin Diaz had pitched a part of the seventh and the entire eighth with the Mets trailing, the Mets brought in David Peterson for the save. He promptly allowed a leadoff single to Sal Frelick, who went back-to-back with Jake Bauers in the seventh, but he struck out Joey Ortiz and got Brice Turang to ground into a 6-6-3 double play to give the Mets the series victory. The miraculous victory is déjà vu for the Mets as it comes just three days after the Mets fought back from down 3-0 in the eighth, and 7-6 in the ninth, against the Atlanta Braves to clinch a postseason spot in their first game of a doubleheader.PADRES’ FERNANDO TATIS JR. DANCES SHIRTLESS IN LOCKER ROOM CELEBRATION AFTER WINNING WILD-CARD SERIESEverything looked like it was down the drain for the Mets, who, after pulling Jose Quintana following six scoreless innings, allowed back-to-back homers to start the seventh inning. However, Alonso’s blast was the first ever by a Met while trailing in the 9th inning or later of a winner-take-all postseason game, according to OPTA Stats. This also marks the first time since 2006 that both the Mets and New York Yankees are in the division series – it’s not too early to wonder about a Subway Series, right? The Mets will now face their NL East rival Philadelphia Phillies in the National League Division Series. Philly is the No. 2 seed in the NL, and it’s the first time the two teams have ever faced off in the postseason. The season series was as tight as it gets, with Philly winning seven of their 13 games. The series begins in Philadelphia on Saturday at 4:08 p.m. ET.Follow Fox News Digital’s sports coverage on X, and subscribe to the Fox News Sports Huddle newsletter.

None of the three schools previously provided a reason behind the forfeit other than understanding the consequences to their win-loss records. When Boise State forfeited its match with SJSU, the NCAA provided OutKick with a statement in response. « College sports are the premier stage for women’s sports in America, and the NCAA members will continue to promote Title IX, make unprecedented investments in women’s sports and ensure fair competition for all student-athletes in all NCAA championships. »The 6-foot-1 Fleming has contributed to the Spartans’ success – Fleming’s 139.5 points and 119 kills both rank second on the team.San Jose State was slated to play Wyoming next, but they are one of the four programs to opt out of playing.Macy Petty, a Concerned Women of America legislative assistant and NCAA volleyball player, spoke with Fox News Digital’s Sarah Rumpf-Whitten about how players are feeling « blindsided » because the NCAA has not informed teams of the presence of transgender players on opposing squads. « There’s no informed consent for the schools or for the female athletes here. They’re totally blindsided when they walk up to the court, and they see that there’s a male athlete on the other side, » Petty said. Fox News’ Scott Thompson and Jackson Thompson contributed to this report.Follow Fox News Digital’s sports coverage on X, and subscribe to the Fox News Sports Huddle newsletter.

[ad_1]

A Washington state woman was stalked and robbed at gunpoint at an ATM amid a continued crime crisis raging on the West Coast.Surveillance video, obtained by FOX 13, showed the robbery taking place by a Bank of America in Parkland, Washington, a suburb of Seattle, on Thursday, Sept. 26.The footage captured a figure in a ski mask hiding in the shadows as an unsuspecting woman arrives at the bank and goes about withdrawing money from the ATM. After the woman had withdrawn her money, the suspect emerged from the bushes and approached the woman, holding her up at gunpoint and demanding her money.SEATTLE BUSINESS OWNERS WARN VIOLENT CRIME IS HAPPENING ON A NEAR HOURLY BASIS: ‘THIS IS MADNESS’The Pierce County Sheriff’s office said that the ski-masked suspect retreated – along with the $1,000 and the victim’s passport. »It’s a random act of violence, » Sergeant Darren Moss of the Pierce County Sheriff’s Department said. « That makes him extremely dangerous to our community, » he said. « We want to get this person in custody because we don’t want him to do this to someone else. »The ATM robbery comes after local business owners have voiced their continued concerns about the crime crisis.Pat Callahan, the CEO of Urban Renaissance Group, told the Business Journal that while there has been some improvement, the crime problem is still yet to be solved. He claimed that many tenants at his downtown property are considering leaving the area. »Really, what’s happening now is all the fentanyl use is bringing consistent crime to the area, and it’s festering, » he said.URG Executive Vice President Shawn Jackson echoed his sentiments and told the outlet that conditions have become « somewhat extreme. » He revealed that one individual recently started a garbage truck fire near the company’s Joshua Green Building. »These are property damage events that happen quite frequently, » he said. « We can’t let the challenges of several concentrated blocks in our downtown define our identity. » Commercial real estate broker Tom Graff said the current approach to crime is not working and is « not sustainable. »The business leader’s sentiment comes as the number of violent crimes in downtown Seattle fell by 10% in 2023 from 2022. It was the lowest number since 2018.Fox News Digital has reached out to the Pierce County Sheriff for comment.Fox News’ Nikolas Lanum contributed to this report.

SEAN HANNITY: Hurricane victims have been completely abandoned by your border czar

[ad_1]

Fox News host Sean Hannity shreds the Hurricane Helene relief response on « Hannity. » SEAN HANNITY: In the week since Helene, only $4 million has been distributed to Americans devastated by the storm. Person after person, calling into my radio show saying they haven’t seen a single emergency worker, FEMA representative, on the ground. Hundreds of Americans we know lost their lives.  TRUMP TARGETS BIDEN, HARRIS OVER FEDERAL RESPONSE TO HURRICANE: ‘INCOMPETENTLY MANAGED’ Hundreds are now unaccounted for and missing. People don’t have homes. They don’t have food. They don’t have water. They don’t have housing. Up until Donald Trump contacted Elon Musk, they didn’t have any communication.  They’ve been completely abandoned by your border czar who prioritized our unvetted illegal immigrants over the American people and hasn’t lifted a finger in over a week, and now we find out a week later they don’t have any money. The little money that they have given out is described as a one-time grant that gives storm victims a lousy, what, $750? Can they open their eyes? Are they not aware of the devastation?
