Before Biden, these 5 past presidents faced health issues amid re-election

[ad_1]

President Joe Biden announced on Sunday that he has dropped out of the 2024 presidential race.Although the White House press office told Fox News Digital on Monday that « health was not a factor » in the president’s decision to withdraw, multiple doctors expressed concern about signs of cognitive decline after Biden’s widely criticized performance in the June 27 presidential debate. Two medical experts told Fox News Digital their belief that Biden’s decision to step down is best for the president’s health.AFTER BIDEN DROPS OUT OF RACE, DOCTORS REVEAL WHY THE DECISION WAS BEST FOR HIS HEALTHBiden, however, isn’t the only president whose re-election was potentially thwarted by health issues or concerns. Here are five others. After he was elected America’s 21st president in 1881, Chester Arthur experienced health complications due to malaria, which remained endemic in Washington, D.C., throughout the 19th century, according to the National Institutes of Health (NIH).In 1882, Arthur continued to suffer from progressive fatigue, extreme weight loss and peripheral edema, the NIH reported.JOE BIDEN WITH COVID AT AGE 81: WHAT TO KNOW ABOUT THE RISK THE VIRUS POSES TO OLDER ADULTSAfter a closer health inspection, Arthur was diagnosed with Bright’s Disease, today known as chronic kidney disease. The president’s health worsened during his last two years in office, with reported symptoms of fluid retention, rigors (shaking or shivering), nausea and colicky abdominal pain.As the 1884 election inched closer, Arthur sought a second term — but lost the Republican nomination to James G. Blaine, the then-Speaker of the House. Blaine went on to lose the election to Democrat Grover Cleveland.Arthur died on Nov. 18, 1886, at age 57, according to the Smithsonian. Theodore Roosevelt took over as commander-in-chief at nearly 43 years old in 1901 following the assassination of President William McKinley, according to the White House Historical Association. Roosevelt was then re-elected in 1904.DOCTORS EXPRESS CONCERN ABOUT BIDEN’S APPARENT COGNITIVE ISSUES DURING DEBATE: ‘TROUBLING INDICATORS’After William Howard Taft’s term, which began in 1909, Roosevelt decided to re-join the race in 1912, creating his own « Bull Moose » party. While campaigning on Oct. 14, 1912, in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, Roosevelt was shot during an assassination attempt outside the Gilpatrick Hotel. The bullet was slowed by Roosevelt’s dense overcoat, his steel-reinforced eyeglasses case and his 50-page speech folded in his inner right jacket pocket, as History.com reported. The bullet punctured the president’s right chest, but did not damage his lungs. It was left lodged inside his ribs — which was deemed safer than operating.ON THIS DAY IN HISTORY, OCTOBER 14, 1912, TEDDY ROOSEVELT SHOT IN CHEST, MAKES CAMPAIGN STOP MINUTES LATERRoosevelt continued his campaign while in recovery — but was beaten by Democrat Woodrow Wilson in the 1912 election.Woodrow Wilson carried out two full terms and intended to run for a third. But the then-president was « severely hindered » by a neurological condition that caused him to suffer from strokes before and during his presidency, according to the NIH.WHO IS ALICE ROOSEVELT LONGWORTH? WHITE HOUSE WILD CHILD AND ORIGINAL ‘WIT OF WASHINGTON,’ SAYS HISTORIANBefore he took office, three strokes affected his right hand and left arm, and caused blindness in his left eye.A damaging stroke during his presidency in Oct. 1919 left Wilson paralyzed on the left side and with only partial vision in his right eye. He was confined to his bed for several weeks, the NIH reported.Wilson did not sufficiently recover from this episode. In the 1920s, the Republicans requested confirmation that he was still able to carry out his duties as required by the Constitution. The president’s doctor, Dr. Cary Grayson, would not publicly comment on Wilson’s health status as Wilson pursued re-election for a third term.PRESIDENTS DAY: GREAT ADVICE FROM GREAT US PRESIDENTS FOR MODERN-DAY AMERICABy the time of the Democratic Convention that summer, however, Grayson shared Wilson’s poor medical state with party leaders and rejected the idea of a third term.Wilson was ultimately not given the presidential nomination, and Republican Warren G. Harding was elected in 1921.Franklin Delano Roosevelt (FDR) was the only U.S. president to serve more than two terms in office, as he was elected for four terms throughout World War II.Roosevelt had suffered from health issues since his paralysis as a result of polio at 39 years old, according to the Franklin D. Roosevelt Library and Museum.During his third term in office, Roosevelt was diagnosed with heart disease, which was kept hidden from the public ahead of his re-election for a fourth term, the NIH reported.Throughout 1944, Roosevelt’s team of doctors monitored his waning health, continuously recording high blood pressure measurements. AMERICAN CULTURE QUIZ: TEST YOURSELF ON PRESIDENTS, COUNTRY QUEENS AND THE BIG KAHUNAThese heart complications were attributed to the « unending stress and strain of the war, » according to the FDR Library and Museum.Roosevelt was chosen as the Democratic nominee in 1944 and continued with his campaign, even while facing skepticism about his physical fitness for office.Although he won his fourth presidential election, Roosevelt was « debilitated » by his condition, according to the NIH.On April 12, 1945, Roosevelt visited New York City heart specialist Dr. Howard Bruenn after complaining of a headache. For more Health articles, visit www.foxnews/healthRoosevelt’s blood pressure hit 300/190 and he lost consciousness. Bruenn diagnosed the event as a stroke and declared the president dead at age 63.Dwight Eisenhower began his first term in 1953 and suffered from two major illnesses, according to the NIH.He experienced a heart attack in Sept. 1955, keeping him out of the White House for recovery until December.CLICK HERE TO SIGN UP FOR OUR HEALTH NEWSLETTERAlthough Eisenhower got clearance from his doctors, the NIH reported that his cardiologists recommended against his running for a second term. The president decided to run for re-election anyway, which was followed by his second major health event in June 1956 — resulting in a diagnosis of Crohn’s disease.Eisenhower underwent an exploratory laparotomy and ileal bypass surgery for a bowel obstruction, which was successful. After a full recovery, Eisenhower was re-elected for a second term, despite questions from the opposition about his fitness for office. The following year, in Nov. 1957, Eisenhower suffered a stroke but ultimately fulfilled his presidency. After leaving office, Eisenhower suffered from multiple heart attacks in the 1960s. He died of congestive heart failure on March 28, 1969, at 78 years old.

GREG GUTFELD: If Biden’s too far gone to campaign, how can he remain commander-in-chief until January 20th?

[ad_1]

So, it’s weird Joe Biden hasn’t been seen since they tossed his carcass from Air Force One last Wednesday. Can we at least get proof of life? Maybe have him pose holding a copy of today’s paper? But then again, we’ve been asking for proof of life from Joe for years. Got nothing. So after years of watching him deteriorate and years of the media Democrat complex covering it up, Joe admits he’s not up to the demands of campaigning, like traveling, speaking and not dying. But now they’re in a pickle. If Joe Biden’s too far gone to campaign, how can he remain commander-in-chief until January 20th? Shouldn’t they put him on like an ice floe and give it a shove before his addled brain starts World War III? But if Joe can still do the job, then didn’t we just witness a ‘coup’ orchestrated by Obama, Clooney, the big coastal donors and the media who just replaced a candidate simply because he was polling below Trump, which according to Dems means he was literally polling below Hitler. But talk about election interference. Someone get Joe Scarborough on the phone, but don’t call his landline, he pulled the cable from the wall to make a noose. Look, Biden won those delegates, and that means he’s the nominee. And like his toy fire truck, you can’t take it away from him because it’s his. Well, I guess you could take it away from him because they just did. Look, Trump got the nomination after being tested. In fact, there was quite a crowd on their debate stage, although half that crowd was Chris Christie. But the fact is, Trump got the nomination and no one could take it from him. But not so on the left. LOCKING IT UP: TRUMP CLINCHES 2024 REPUBLICAN PRESIDENTIAL NOMINATION DURING TUESDAY’S PRIMARIESJust ask Bernie who the Dems hip-checked out of a presidential primary victory twice. And for a man his age, a broken hip could be fatal. So it was polling that got Biden out. A bunch of nameless number crunchers just anointed a new candidate. It wasn’t because Biden’s IQ dropped lower than his body temperature. If that was the standard, how can this woman be the replacement?COMPILATION OF KAMALA HARRIS CLIPSThat’s the laugh of a woman who loves school busses, the shorter the better. So they got by now because it looked like they were going to lose. That’s anti-democratic. There’s the rub. If they say it wasn’t because Biden was going to lose, but because of his impairment, then he has to resign because then he’s unfit to run and how the hell can he handle foreign policy when he’s loopy? Then Dems should be saying the same words I hear at an ugly man convention: ‘get out of here.’ But if they say he is fit to be president, then why drop out of the race? You see, they painted themselves into a corner and of all places, the Oval Office. DEMOCRATS THROWN INTO CHAOS AS THEY FACE TIGHT DEADLINE TO REPLACE BIDENThe system is delegates nominate a candidate, not delegates nominate a candidate until he doesn’t look like he’s going to win. That’s an attack on democracy. They’re overriding the voters. If that had been the standard on the right, Trump would have been ousted in 2016, and we likely would have gotten four years of Hillary and me and Jesse would have been found in the trunk of a car. Now, there could be something else going on here. Is there more to Joe dropping out than we know? Does it have something to do with Butler, Pennsylvania? I’m not suggesting the Dems tried to have Trump killed, of course. Hillary’s retired. And she can’t climb a slanted roof without twisting a kankle. But remember, Secret Service Director Cheatle was on Joe Biden’s security detail. Jill reportedly pushed for Cheatle to get that top job. They’re a perfect pair. A DEI hire gets your shot, then a phony doctor can give you fake first aid. But what if, when resources are allotted, favorites are played with experience and manpower? It’s pretty clear the White House didn’t take threats to Trump seriously. Could this have been negligence by derangement? A shared antipathy for Trump? So it looks like the Dems are embracing Kamala, who Joe has endorsed, although at this stage he mistakes her for Oprah. But Kam faces a dilemma. She can’t possibly pick a VP more competent than she is. She can’t afford to be overshadowed. So where is she going to find a politician who is even more clueless and incompetent than she is? Is there someone worse out there? Oh, wait a minute. I’ve got an idea. Kamala, Joe, just trade places.

Trump reveals he spoke with Secret Service Director Cheatle, wants to know how would-be assassin got on roof

[ad_1]

Former President Trump and his 2024 running mate JD Vance sat down for their first joint interview with Fox News host Jesse Watters on Monday following the assassination attempt on the GOP nominee’s life at a rally in Butler, Pa., last week.Trump told « Jesse Watters Primetime » embattled Secret Service Director Kimberly Cheatle came to see him in the days following the assassination attempt. »It went very nicely. She was very nice, I thought. But, you know, somebody should have made sure there was nobody on that roof, » he said. The shooter, Thomas Matthew Crooks, fired several shots at the former president from the rooftop of a building roughly 130 yards away. Investigators are piecing together how the 20-year-old local resident was able to gain a clear line of sight at Trump. Eyewitness Michael Difrischia filmed Crooks lying down on top of the American Glass Research building, looking down the sights of an AR-style rifle. »I saw a younger kid running through the crowd and somebody had spoke[n] up [and] said the guy had a gun, » Difrischia told « The Ingraham Angle » last week.WHO WAS THOMAS MATTHEW CROOKS? WHAT WE KNOW ABOUT TRUMP’S ATTEMPTED ASSASSIN »The problem was the police officers were too close to the building. They could not see him, » he added. « We were trying to tell them he’s right there, he’s right there, but they just couldn’t see him. »Other eyewitnesses said they tried to warn police officers of a shooter before he fired the shots that grazed Trump’s ear, killed former Pennsylvania fire chief Corey Comperatore and injured David Dutch and James Copenhaven.Trump told Watters he was surprised at how close Crooks was able to get. « They said it’s really, it’s a — a bad shot would usually hit the target. And so I mean, it’s got to be, somebody’s got to be there. And it’s essentially a flat roof. I mean, I noticed that she [Cheatle] said, well, this is a slope roof where you think of like a barn where you have, this thing had just a little — a little upswing in it, a few degrees. This was a not — it essentially was a flat roof, » he said. Cheatle told ABC News last week the building the alleged shooter was on top of had a « sloped roof at its highest point. » « And so, you know, there’s a safety factor that would be considered there that we wouldn’t want to put somebody up on a sloped roof, » she said. Trump said he believes Cheatle was given « false information » when she mentioned the roof’s slope as a reason why there weren’t any Secret Service agents atop the building. The 2024 Republican nominee questioned why he wasn’t told to stay off the stage for 5-20 minutes before he came out and started speaking if there were concerns about a potential threat. OFFICER REPORTED MAN AT TRUMP RALLY WITH RANGE-FINDER 30 MINS BEFORE ASSASSINATION ATTEMPT: SOURCE »You have to answer why couldn’t I have stayed off the stage for five minutes while they do their work? Why couldn’t, you know, how does a situation happen where a roof that’s plainly in sight from the location where I was speaking… why would somebody not have seen that? » he asked.Cheatle appeared on Capitol Hill Monday to answer for the security failures that almost led to the assassination of a former president. She acknowledged the attempt on Trump’s life was the most significant operational failure at the Secret Service in decades. Two ranking members of the House Oversight Committee, Reps. James Comer, R-Ky., and Jamie Raskin, D-Md., called on Cheatle to resign from her post in a letter following her testimony, saying she failed to « provide answers to basic questions regarding that stunning operational failure and to reassure the American people that the Secret Service has learned its lessons and begun to correct its systemic blunders and failures. »Trump praised the actions of his Secret Service agents, who rushed to cover him after shots rang out at his rally. He told Watters his ear is healing and getting better. « We’re getting down to the small bandages. But it was a nasty one. And it was nasty, period. That was exactly one week ago from today, exactly. And, you know, when you think about it, it’s — that’s been a lot of territory covered, » he said. « Who — who would’ve thought this was going to be happening? But it happened. And I got very lucky, or God, I think it was God, actually. »

Gov. Jared Polis blasts Trump as ‘approaching 80,’ can’t ‘get a sentence out,’ after Biden drops out

Gov. Jared Polis, D-Colo., knocked former President Trump as the candidate « approaching 80, » who « can barely get a sentence out, » while discussing his support for Vice President Harris during an interview on CNN on Monday. »The other side has a nominee that can barely get a sentence out. He’s approaching 80. He brings us back to the past. We have somebody who’s about the future of our country, who’s put criminals behind bars, who knows firsthand how to do the job. And, frankly, can identify with most Americans in a way that President Trump just never could, » the governor said.President Biden, 81, endorsed Harris to replace him at the top of the Democratic ticket on Sunday, after announcing he would be dropping out. Polis also said it would be « flattering » to be on Harris’ list of potential vice presidential picks, and added that he liked the idea of her picking a governor. MAJORITY OF DEMOCRATS THINK KAMALA HARRIS WOULD BE A GOOD PRESIDENT, POLL SHOWS »This is always decided on the top of the ticket, right? So this is going to be Trump, if he stays in and doesn‘t drop out, versus Kamala Harris. And I think we have, really, a lot going for us on our side with a powerful vision for America’s future versus taking us back to the divided days of America’s past. And I’m excited to help out however I can, » Polis said. Asked bluntly if he would accept the nomination if Harris asked him, he said he was happy in his current position as the governor of Colorado. »I love the job I‘m doing. You know, I love Colorado. It‘s great. Obviously, if somebody asked, I’d take a serious look at it, but my phone hasn‘t rung yet. Look, if they do the polling, and it turns out that they need a 49-year-old balding, gay Jew from Boulder, Colorado, they got my number, » Polis said. Harris’ campaign announced she had raked in a staggering $81 million in donations in the 24 hours since Biden dropped out and endorsed her on Sunday.CLICK HERE FOR MORE COVERAGE OF MEDIA AND CULTUREBiden announced via a letter on social media that he would be exiting the race. « It has been the greatest honor of my life to serve as your President. Russian forces push toward critical Ukrainian logistics hub of Pokrovsk

[ad_1]

Ukraine’s top commander said on Monday that Russian forces were staging relentless assaults to try to advance towards the town of Pokrovsk, a logistics hub in the east, and that there was active fighting taking place along the entire front line.Nearly 29 months since the full-scale invasion, Ukraine has stepped up its mobilization effort to address its manpower shortages and been reinforced by supplies of western artillery shells, but Russian troops have continued to inch forward. »The enemy pays no attention to their fairly high level of losses and continues to push through towards Pokrovsk, » Colonel General Oleksandr Syrskyi said in a statement from the eastern front.REPUBLICANS DIVIDED ON RUSSIA’S SECURITY THREAT AS VANCE JOINS TRUMP PRESIDENTIAL TICKETPokrovsk is less than 15 miles from Russian-occupied land, according to open-source intelligence battlefield maps, and lies at an intersection of roads and a railway that makes it an important logistics point for the military and for civilians in the east. »Active combat operations of varying intensity are taking place along the entire front, » Syrskyi said, noting that Russian forces were also trying to capture floodplain islands near the southern Ukrainian city of Kherson.Fierce battles, he said, also raged near several eastern villages and towns, including Krasnohorivka and Chasiv Yar, a strategic hilltop town whose capture would bring Russia closer to threatening important Kyiv-held Donetsk region cities.Russia staged 39 assaults on the Pokrovsk front in the last 24 hours of a total 117 registered along the front line, the military said in its daily battlefield readout.Russian forces captured two villages in the east over the weekend, Russian media said, citing the Defense Ministry.Though Kyiv’s weary troops have been on the back foot this year with Russia again on the offensive and keeping up the pressure, Moscow’s progress has been slow.Ukrainian Foreign Minister Dmytro Kuleba, who travels to China this week on a diplomatic trip, estimated on Friday that Russia controlled 17.68% of Ukrainian territory compared with 17.61% on Jan. 1, 2024.A senior NATO official said this month that Russia lacked the munitions and troops for a major offensive in Ukraine and would need to secure significant ammunition supplies from other countries beyond what it already has in order to do so.Russia has pounded Ukraine’s electricity system with airstrikes in recent months, causing regular power cuts across the country.Ukraine has used domestic-made drones to attack targets in Russia and staged a major overnight strike that damaged its Tuapse oil refinery, its biggest on the Black Sea.In his statement, Syrskyi said it was vital for Kyiv to conduct long-range strikes on Russian forces, echoing Ukrainian officials who have appealed to allies to allow Kyiv to use Western-supplied weapons to attack military targets inside Russia.Russia has warned that the use of U.S. and Western weapons against targets inside Russia could trigger a new level of confrontation.Ukraine is also grappling with a shortage of short-range anti-aircraft missiles to repel Russian reconnaissance drones and is having to rely on drones and other electronic warfare systems for defense, he said.

Embattled Secret Service director to tell top House committee ‘we failed’ to protect Trump

[ad_1]

Secret Service Director Kimberly Cheatle is testifying Monday before the House Oversight Committee in a hearing on the circumstances surrounding the attempted assassination of former President Trump – amid intense criticism of her leadership and calls for her to step down. The House Oversight Committee subpoenaed Cheatle to appear last week as part of an open investigation into the shooting in Butler, Pennsylvania. Trump was shot in the ear, while one attendee was killed and two others injured. In a statement, Anthony Guglielmi, chief of communications for the Secret Service, confirmed her attendance on Friday, and ABC News has since reported excerpts of testimony Cheatle is expected to deliver. »The Secret Service’s solemn mission is to protect our nation’s leaders. On July 13th, we failed, » Cheatle is expected to tell the committee on Monday. « As the Director of the United States Secret Service, I take full responsibility for any security lapse. As an agency, we are fully cooperating with the FBI’s investigation, the oversight you have initiated here, and conducting our own internal mission assurance review at my direction. Likewise, we will cooperate with the pending external review and the DHS Office of the Inspector General. »SENATORS CONFRONT SECRET SERVICE CHIEF AT REPUBLICAN CONVENTION: ‘YOU OWE PRESIDENT TRUMP ANSWERS’ In the wake of the shooting, Republicans and some Democrats immediately raised questions about the performance of the agency, including about how a gunman was able to get so close to the former president and fire multiple shots. In his letter to Cheatle, Chairman James Comer, R-Ky., had accused the Secret Service of a lack of transparency in issuing the subpoena.Comer is expected to tell Cheatle Monday that she should resign. »Americans demand answers from Director Kimberly Cheatle about the Secret Service’s historic security failures that led to the attempted assassination of President Trump, murder of an innocent victim, and harm to others in the crowd. We look forward to Director Cheatle’s testimony on Monday, July 22 to deliver the transparency and accountability that Americans deserve, » Comer said in response to Cheatle confirming she would testify.HOUSE GOP LEADERS DEMAND ACCOUNTABILITY ON TRUMP ASSASSINATION ATTEMPT: ‘SO MANY QUESTIONS’ In addition to the Oversight Committee hearing, the House Homeland Security committee has called for a hearing and subpoenaed documents from DHS Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas. In the Senate, both Homeland Security Committee Chairman Gary Peters, D-Mich., and ranking member Rand Paul, R-Ky., have launched an investigation. The DHS Office of Inspector General is also reviewing the Secret Service’s handling of the rally. In a preview of the pressure Cheatle may face, she was confronted by multiple Republican senators at the Republican National Convention on Wednesday. »This was an assassination attempt, you owe the people answers, you owe President Trump answers, » Sen. Marsha Blackburn, R-Tenn., said.TRUMP RALLY SHOOTING: HEART-STOPPING FOOTAGE SHOWS AUDIENCE MEMBERS NOTICING GUNMAN BEFORE SHOTS FIREDCheatle, meanwhile, has called the shooting « unacceptable » and « something that shouldn’t happen again. » She is expected to tell the committee Monday that she will move « heaven and earth » to make sure what happened on July 13 never does again, according to the excerpts obtained by ABC News. « Our mission is not political. It is literally a matter of life and death, as the tragic events on July 13th remind us. I have full confidence in the men and women of the Secret Service, » she is expected to tell the committee. « They are worthy of our support in executing our protective mission. »However, in response to the intense criticism from lawmakers, the Secret Service says she does not intend to resign. »Continuity of operations is paramount during a critical incident and U.S. Secret Service Director Kimberly Cheatle has no intentions to step down, » Guglielmi said. « She deeply respects members of Congress and is fiercely committed to transparency in leading the Secret Service through the internal investigation and strengthening the agency through lessons learned in these important internal and external reviews. »

Harris will invoke legal career to position the race against Trump as ‘prosecutor against the felon: Historian

[ad_1]

Presidential historian Douglas Brinkley said Vice President Harris’ campaign will invoke her legal career to position the race against former President Trump as the « prosecutor against the felon. »Brinkley made the comment on CBS moments after President Biden announced he would not seek re-election in November and endorsed Harris as the Democratic nominee. »People will remember that Biden at the very end here, did the right thing getting out… it is a grueling campaign trail. It’s just grueling. There was no way President Joe Biden could do seven speeches a day, » Brinkley said. « This was not going to be staying in the White House or Camp David or Rehoboth. You can’t do a lockdown… you can’t run like that. In the end, you did need somebody with more vigor and energy and Vice President Harris has shown that.KAMALA HARRIS CONFIRMS 2024 PRESIDENTIAL BID AFTER BIDEN DROPS OUT »Not just here at home, but she has been to 21 countries abroad and yet she is not known by a lot of Americans so there will be a new excitement of this notion of the prosecutor going against the felon, » he continued. « That is how the Harris-Biden team are going to position her and then on CBS News, you will be showing a lot of the clips of Senator Harris when she went after Kavanaugh and then after the bar on women’s reproductive rights…it is the forte of Kamala Harris.… »Harris has previously faced intense criticism for her record as a prosecutor and as attorney general of California during her 2020 presidential bid. She will be running to defeat former President Trump, who was found guilty on 34 counts of falsifying business records earlier this year in a trial he dismissed as a « scam. »WHAT COMES NEXT FOR DEMOCRATS AFTER BIDEN’S CAMPAIGN SUSPENSION?Biden dropped the bombshell news in an open letter to the American people on Sunday, marking the latest extraordinary development of the 2024 election cycle. After weeks of insisting he would not drop out despite panicking liberals predicting a loss to Trump in the aftermath of his disastrous debate performance, he succumbed. He is the first sitting president eligible for another term to not seek re-election since Democrat Lyndon B. Johnson in 1968.Harris confirmed that she would run for the Democratic nomination, writing in a statement, « I am honored to have the President’s endorsement and my intention is to earn and win this nomination. »Harris has received endorsements from former President Bill Clinton and former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, as well as several Democratic lawmakers. However, many Democrats – including former President Obama, have issued statements on Biden’s decision without making mention of Harris or endorsing her. Democratic strategists noted to Fox News Digital that the vice president is in the best position to take on former President Trump with just months to the election. Several Democratic operatives pointed to the fact that Harris was voted for by the same primary voters that chose Biden, and she has already established a campaign and fundraising infrastructure going into the crucial contest. Fox News’ David Rutz and Julia Johnson contributed to this report.

As campaign leak pushes Biden out, will Democrats anoint Kamala Harris?

[ad_1]

In the end, the pressure on President Biden to step aside, orchestrated by increasingly blatant leaks from Democratic leaders and public abandonment by party lawmakers, got to be too great, as was obviously inevitable. Not even an incumbent president of some accomplishment can run for reelection when donors pull the plug, when nearly two-thirds of Democrats don’t want him seeking a second term, and when a public declaration that Joe Must Go is a surefire ticket to television appearances.  Soon after Biden, recovering from COVID, rocked the 2024 race yesterday by endorsing Kamala Harris, which may well have handed her the nomination, the tectonic plates shifted. Not long after Biden declared it « in the best interest of my party and my country for me to stand down, » Harris said she was « honored to have the president’s endorsement and my intention is to earn and win this nomination. »Politics is a cold business. Journalists and commentators quickly moved on to speculating who Harris’ running mate will be.WEST VIRGINIA SENATOR TELLS FOX NEWS HE MAY RE-REGISTER AS A DEM AND ENTER WHITE HOUSE RACEWhat I will never understand is why Biden sent so many signals that he was absolutely, positively staying in the race. He said he looked forward to hitting the campaign trail this week. He had campaign manager Jen O’Malley Dillon make a rare TV appearance to say the boss wasn’t dropping out, and had a White House spokesperson rip news stories that suggested otherwise. Harris brings undeniable strengths and weaknesses, but at 59, she is now the youngest candidate in the race to take on Donald Trump. And the latest stunning turn – a president bowing out after all the primary votes have been cast – came a week after Trump was nearly assassinated, the bullet grazing his ear as he turned his head just enough that it saved his life.As Trump said at a weekend rally, « I took a bullet for democracy. »On yesterday’s « Media Buzz, » which ended before Biden’s announcement, Kevin Corke, in Rehoboth Beach, said the Democrats would be « done for an awful long time. The idea that a Black woman would be passed over, the way it would be perceived in the community, would be devastating. »The person most responsible for Biden stepping aside is Nancy Pelosi, who warned the president in private, then had allies such as Adam Schiff go public, then used leaks to the press to make Biden’s position untenable. The former speaker has not endorsed Harris. Neither has Barack Obama, who let it be known he thought his former VP would lose and said yesterday there should be a process for deciding the nomination.RFK JR MAKES BOLD DECLARATION AFTER BIDEN’S PRESIDENTIAL BID COMES TO AN ENDThis may be because they believe Harris would gain more momentum by defeating someone in a mini-primary, rather than looking like a choice imposed by the party bosses. That certainly can look undemocratic, though most Biden delegates would probably follow the president’s lead. The biggest mistake many journalists make is basing their assessment of Harris’ chances on her poll standing today.Trump very much wanted to run against Biden, especially since that disastrous debate. But it was also Trump, while cursing Kamala from a golf cart, who predicted he’d be running against her.The vice president had a rocky first two years, often at odds with the West Wing, but in the last year has gained in poise and confidence. Here are her assets and liabilities:Harris can claim a share of credit for Biden’s legislative accomplishments (though that was always too backward-looking). But that means she’s also saddled with his failures, such as Afghanistan and the border fiasco (of which she was nominally in charge in a no-win situation). Biden waited way too long to crack down on asylum seekers. She’s already being asked if she was part of a coverup – vouching for the president’s mental acuity while seeing signs of his decline close up. That’s a tough one.WHACKING THE MEDIA: TRUMP, VANCE, BIDEN, MSNBC HOST HIT PRESS FROM ALL SIDESBiden could never quite capture the country’s attention, in part because his inner circle kept him away from journalists – even two Super Bowl interviews –for reasons we now understand.Harris has to demonstrate that she can drive a message and should do plenty of interviews. Whether another Democrat challenges her or not, Harris, who began making calls yesterday, has to put together a team in a hurry to challenge a well-oiled Trump campaign that has been operating smoothly all year.It was Axios that reported « several top Democrats privately tell us the rising pressure of party congressional leaders and close friends will persuade President Biden to decide to drop out of the presidential race, as soon as this weekend. » Yet deputy campaign manager Quentin Fulks told reporters that Biden « is not wavering on anything. The president has made his decision. »And the New York Times was right in reporting that « several people close to President Biden said on Thursday that they believe he has begun to accept the idea that he may not be able to win in November and may have to drop out of the race, bowing to the growing demands of many anxious members of his party. »CLICK HERE TO GET THE FOX NEWS APPNow here’s the final irony: Some Republicans and conservatives, including National Review, are saying that if Biden isn’t fit to run a campaign, he can’t run the country now – and should resign.Which, of course, would give Kamala Harris a four-month head start as president.

Manchin considers re-registering as Democrat to run for president

[ad_1]

West Virginia Sen. Joe Manchin is considering re-registering as a Democrat so he can run for president.Fox News confirmed Manchin, who in May left the Democratic Party and registered as an Independent, said Sunday he is considering re-registering with his original party and running for president.Manchin said he was considering the party switch and throwing his hat in the ring for president, « Even just to have the discussion of bringing the party back to center, » Fox News’ Bret Baier posted on X.Earlier in the day on Sunday, Manchin called on Biden to step aside.WEST VIRGINIA SEN. JOE MANCHIN LEAVES DEMOCRATIC PARTY, REGISTERS AS INDEPENDENT »He will go down with a legacy unlike many people as one of the finest and surely a patriot, an American, » Manchin said of Biden during an appearance on ABC News’ « This Week. » « And so with that, I come with a heavy heart to think the time has come for him to pass the torch to a new generation. » Manchin changed his party registration from Democrat to independent this year, though he still caucuses with the Democrats in the Senate. In the three weeks since Biden’s disastrous debate performance against former President Trump, Manchin said he « thought the president needed time to evaluate and make a decision if he was going to at that time. » The senator also acknowledged Democratic colleagues facing competitive races in Congress or at the state level in November who fear Biden’s re-election campaign could ruin their chances. JOE MANCHIN FACES PRESSURE FOR 11TH-HOUR RUN TO SECURE CRITICAL SEAT FOR DEMOCRATSThe senator privately expressed grave concern to Biden’s allies, including Sen. Chris Coons, D-Del., and Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer, D-N.Y., in the immediate aftermath of the debate but decided to cancel scheduled appearances on Sunday shows, Politico previously reported. In doing so, Manchin reportedly intended to give Biden time to decide the matter on his own, but the senator changed course. Manchin’s surprising decision to switch from a Democrat to an Independent in May came amid reports that he was being encouraged to run for governor of West Virginia by moderate Republicans dissatisfied with the party’s nominee, state Attorney General Patrick Morrisey. It also came ahead of a deadline for filing as an independent in West Virginia. Questioned about those reports in late May, Manchin downplayed the rumors but would not rule them out. He said the Democratic nominee, Huntington Mayor Steve Williams, is a friend. FORCING PRESIDENT BIDEN OUT OF CAMPAIGN MAY HAVE BEEN MORE ABOUT CONGRESS THAN WHITE HOUSEThe West Virginia MetroNews reported sources « close » to the senator who said at least 20 Republicans « with financial resources » have encouraged Manchin to run for governor.CLICK HERE TO GET THE FOX NEWS APPSince that report was published, Manchin was reportedly bombarded by people urging him to run at an event at the Greenbrier resort in White Sulphur Springs, according to WVMetroNews. The Greenbrier is notably owned by the state’s current governor, Democrat-turned-Republican Jim Justice, who is term-limited and now is the GOP’s Senate nominee to replace Manchin.Fox News’ Aishah Hasnie and Fox News Digital’s Julia Johnson and Danielle Wallace contributed to this report.

Dave Portnoy accuses Dems of attempting to ‘hijack’ democracy with timing of Joe Biden withdrawal

[ad_1]

Barstool Sports founder Dave Portnoy accused Democrat leadership of attempting to « hijack » democracy after President Biden announced his decision on Sunday to suspend his bid for re-election amid mounting pressure from within his own party. In a video posted to X, Portnoy called the decision to withdraw from the campaign the « right move, » but he criticized the timing of it.  « They whacked Joe when the powers that be sent him out for that debate with Trump. They knew what we’ve known forever if you have two eyes and a brain: that he was a lettuce head, a vegetable, » Portnoy said. CLICK HERE FOR MORE SPORTS COVERAGE ON FOXNEWS.COM »It’s the right move, he shouldn’t run. It’s not for the right reasons. Like, he has been this way for years and the Democrats have been hiding it. Then they’re like, ‘Well, he probably can’t beat Trump, so we got to get somebody else in there.’ How they waited this long, so now what? They can hand-pick basically who their replacement is going to be? »He continued, « How they waited this long is insanity, and they’re trying to hijack, basically, democracy. They’re not letting people vote. It goes to the convention, it’s insane, because he’s been this way before he went and ran. That in itself is f—ing crazy. »BIDEN’S WITHDRAWAL FROM 2024 PRESIDENTIAL RACE DRAWS REACTIONS FROM SPORTS WORLDPortnoy went on to criticize the decision to withdraw from the presidential race but remain in office despite concerns about Biden’s mental acuity. He doubled down on his claim in a series of posts on X, calling it « insane and calculated. »Biden, 81, said he will formally address the nation this week about his decision. »It has been the greatest honor of my life to serve as your president. While it has been my intention to seek reelection, I believe it is in the best interests of my party and the country for me to stand down and focus solely on fulfilling my duties as president for the remainder of my term, » he said on Sunday.Fox News’ Paul Steinhauser and Brooke Singman contributed to this report.Follow Fox News Digital’s sports coverage on X and subscribe to the Fox News Sports Huddle newsletter.

Trump says Biden ‘is not fit to serve’: ‘Who is going to be running the country for the next 5 months?’

[ad_1]

Former President Trump said President Biden « was not fit to run for president » and is not — and « never was » fit to serve. The Republican presidential nominee was reacting to Biden’s stunning announcement Sunday afternoon that he is suspending his re-election campaign. « He is the worst president in the history of our country, » Trump told Fox News Digital in a phone interview Sunday afternoon. « There has never been a president so bad. » « He is not fit to serve, » Trump continued. « And I ask — who is going to be running the country for the next five months? » The former president also reportedly told CNN on Sunday that he believes Vice President Kamala Harris would be easier to defeat in November’s election. BIDEN ENDS BID FOR SECOND TERM IN WHITE HOUSE AS HE DROPS OUT OF HIS 2024 REMATCH WITH TRUMPTrump also posted on his Truth Social Sunday afternoon, writing, « Crooked Joe Biden was not fit to run for President, and is certainly not fit to serve — And never was! He only attained the position of President by lies, Fake News, and not leaving his Basement. » Trump said that « all those around him, including his Doctor and the Media, knew that he wasn’t capable of being President, and he wasn’t. » « Now, look what he’s done to our Country, with millions of people coming across our Border, totally unchecked and unvetted, many from prisons, mental institutions, and record numbers of terrorists, » he wrote. « We will suffer greatly because of his presidency, but we will remedy the damage he has done very quickly. » He added: « MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN! » Trump’s comments come one week after he survived an assassination attempt and just days after formally becoming the 2024 Republican presidential nominee. Biden announced Sunday that he will suspend his 2024 re-election campaign amid mounting pressure from his Democratic colleagues on Capitol Hill, top donors and Hollywood stars after a disastrous debate performance last month. The unprecedented announcement came as an increasing number of Democrat lawmakers had begun to publicly call for Biden to step aside and the party’s leadership reportedly was engaged in efforts to convince Biden, 81, he could not win in November’s general election against former President Trump, the 2024 GOP nominee who Biden defeated four years ago to win the White House. »It has been the greatest honor of my life to serve as your president, » Biden wrote in a public letter. « While it has been my intention to seek reelection, I believe it is in the best interests of my party and the country for me to stand down and focus solely on fulfilling my duties as president for the remainder of my term. »TRUMP PREACHES UNITY AS HE ACCEPTS GOP PRESIDENTIAL NOMINATION DAYS AFTER SURVIVING ASSASSINATION ATTEMPTBiden said he will formally address the nation later this week about his decision. « For now, let me express my deepest gratitude to all those who have worked so hard to see me reelected, » Biden wrote. « I want to thank Vice President Kamala Harris for being an extraordinary partner in all this work. And let me express my heartfelt appreciation to the American people for the faith and trust you have placed in me. » Biden added: « I believe today what I always have: that there is nothing America can’t do — when we do it together. We just have to remember we are the United States of America. »Biden was diagnosed with COVID-19 on Wednesday, a revelation that came on the heels of several TV interviews and campaign appearances in which the president insisted he was remaining in the race. But the interviews failed to reassure supporters and provided critics — including those on the left — with further evidence that Biden was no longer up to the job.Biden delivered a strong welcome address to world leaders at last week’s NATO summit in Washington, D.C. The showcase served as an opportunity to prove he was fit to continue his current term and eager and able to lead the nation for another four years. For a time, it seemed Biden could survive the surge of calls for him to quit the race after House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries and Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer announced that they backed Biden’s bid. But Biden, who has long been known for a propensity to commit gaffes, continued to stumble. His missteps included a glaring error on the world stage at the NATO summit. While speaking on live television, Biden referred to Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy as « Putin, » name-checking Russian President Vladimir Putin, whose invasion of Zelenskyy’s Ukraine has precipitated more than two years of hellish war.Questions over whether Biden would end his campaign remained the top political story heading into last weekend. But two blockbuster developments in rapid succession — the attempted assassination of Trump at the former president’s rally in western Pennsylvania on Saturday and Trump’s naming Monday at the Republican National Convention of Sen. JD Vance of Ohio as his running mate — briefly halted the fervor over Biden for a couple of days. But the call on Wednesday by Rep. Adam Schiff, the Democratic Senate nominee in California, for Biden to end his campaign, as well as reporting that top Democrats such as Schumer, Jeffries, and former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi had frank conversations with Biden, quickly reignited the political crisis for the president.Biden’s stunning announcement occurred during the roughest stretch of what was a more than year-long campaign for a second term. Doubts about his viability at the top of the Democratic Party’s 2024 ticket began seeping out into the mainstream after his halting delivery and awkward answers were placed on full display for a national audience during June’s presidential debate with Trump in Atlanta.

‘West Wing’ creator spins scenario to save Democrats: Nominate Mitt Romney to stop ‘dangerous imbecile’ Trump

[ad_1]

Aaron Sorkin, the creator of the ’90s NBC drama « West Wing, » suggested on Sunday that the Democratic Party nominate a Republican, Senator Mitt Romney, to stop former President Donald Trump. Back in 2012, Sorkin lobbied Obama to repeatedly call Romney a liar at debates. « Nominating Mr. Romney would be putting our money where our mouth is: a clear and powerful demonstration that this election isn’t about what our elections are usually about, but about stopping a deranged man from taking power, » Sorkin touted in an op-ed for the New York Times, before noting other Democrats weren’t polling well against Trump either.President Biden is facing mounting calls to drop out of the race following a rocky debate performance. A recent poll also found that 65% of Democrats want Biden to drop out. »The problem in the real world is that there isn’t a Democrat who is polling significantly better than Mr. Biden. And quitting, as heroic as it may be in this case, doesn’t really put a lump in our throats, » he wrote.DO THESE POTENTIAL BIDEN REPLACEMENTS HAVE WHAT IT TAKES TO BEAT TRUMP?Sorkin suggested that « Democrats nominating a Republican » could be the « healing event » everyone wanted after the assassination attempt against Trump. He also imagined former President Obama « full-throatedly endorsing his old rival » at the Democratic convention. »And Mr. Romney could make the case that the Democrats are putting country before party in ways that the MAGA movement will not, and announce his bipartisan cabinet picks at the convention as well, » he wrote. »The writing staff would tell me I was about to jump the shark, that this is a ‘West Wing’ fantasy that would never, ever happen. But as Bradley Whitford used to say, ‘Isn’t the biggest fantasy on television a mafia boss in therapy?’ The Democrats need to break the glass and this is a break-glass plan, but it’s more than that. It’s a grand gesture. A sacrifice. It would put a lump in our throats, » he continued.CLICK HERE FOR MORE COVERAGE OF MEDIA AND CULTURESorkin, in 2012, authored a kind of fan fiction, via NYT opinion columnist Maureen Dowd, that imagined the fictional « West Wing » president, Jed Bartlet, coaching then-President Obama on his debate performance against Romney. Speaking of the man he now wants Democrats to nominate, Sorkin lobbied Obama to say to Romney: « You’re lying, Governor. » Conservatives took issue with the idea on X, with some pointing out how the Democratic Party treated Romney when he ran in 2012. One pointed out that Biden, who was vice president at the time, told a crowd at a rally in Virginia that Romney would « put y’all back in chains. »Romney, a strong critic of the former president, has not thrown his support behind him. »With President Trump, it’s a matter of personal character, » he said in June. « I draw a line and say when someone has been actually found to have been sexually assaulted, that’s something I just won’t cross over in the person I wouldn’t want to have as President of the United States. »

First Congressional Democrat calls for Secret Service director to resign over Trump assassination attempt

[ad_1]

Rep. Brendan Boyle, D-Penn., is calling on Secret Service Director Kimberly Cheatle to resign following an assassination attempt against former President Trump at a campaign rally last weekend in Pennsylvania.Boyle is the first Congressional Democrat to urge Cheatle to step down. »I am calling on Director Cheatle to resign immediately following last weekend’s shooting of a Presidential candidate in Western Pennsylvania, » Boyle said in a statement on Saturday. »The evidence coming to light has shown unacceptable operational failures, » he continued. « I have no confidence in the leadership of the United States Secret Service if Director Cheatle chooses to remain in her position. »TRUMP TELLS JESSE WATTERS THAT HE WAS NOT WARNED ABOUT GUNMAN, DESPITE REPORTSTrump survived an assassination attempt at a campaign rally in Butler, Pennsylvania, on July 13, when gunman Thomas Matthew Crooks opened fire from the top of a building. One rally spectator was killed shielding his wife and daughter from the gunfire, while several others were injured, including Trump, who suffered injuries to his ear.The Secret Service has faced intense criticism in the aftermath of the shooting over concerns about how Crooks was able to gain access to the rooftop that had a line of sight to Trump as he was speaking at the rally.Several Republicans, including House Speaker Mike Johnson of Louisiana and Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell of Kentucky, have called for new leadership at the Secret Service following the shooting. »Last week’s near-assassination of former President Trump was a grave attack on American democracy, » McConnell wrote Wednesday on the social media platform X. « The nation deserves answers and accountability. Raiders’ Davante Adams would like Tom Brady as team’s quarterback

[ad_1]

While Tom Brady still may be trying to buy a minority share of the Las Vegas Raiders, at least one star player on the silver and black hopes Brady returns to the field.Davante Adams appeared on « Club Shay Shay » with Pro Football Hall of Famer Shannon Sharpe and expressed hope Brady would unretire for the second time and play quarterback for the Raiders. Adams said he would take Brady even if Brady was 58 years old.CLICK HERE FOR MORE SPORTS COVERAGE ON FOXNEWS.COM »Hell yes. You gonna talk about how old he is. I don’t care. I don’t care, » Adams told Sharpe. « Tom knows how I feel about him. And the other part of it is, I think I’d be the first person to play with Tom and Aaron (Rodgers). So, that’d be pretty cool. « He’s gotta still be able to throw it better than half these dudes in the league. »Brady would likely be the best quarterback on the roster if he decided to put the broadcast booth on hold for another year and give it another go on the field.WHY THE COWBOYS ARE MOST BET TEAM TO FALL SHORT OF WIN TOTAL IN 2024Las Vegas will enter the 2024 season with Aidan O’Connell and Gardner Minshew II as the leading quarterbacks vying for the starting job.Jimmy Garoppolo was the starting quarterback last season but was benched in late October in favor of O’Connell. Vance fires up voters in major battleground state, slams VP rival Harris

[ad_1]

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. — Former President Donald Trump and vice presidential nominee JD Vance are rallying voters Saturday for their first joint campaign event as running mates, but also for the first rally since a would-be assassin tried, but failed, to take Trump’s life last week.Thousands piled into the Van Andel Arena, home to the Grand Rapids Griffins hockey team, to see the pair, who are coming off a packed week at the Republican National Convention (RNC) where each accepted their respective nominations to appear on the GOP ticket together. »I find it hard to believe that a week ago an assassin tried to take Donald Trump’s life, and now we have this crowd in Michigan to welcome him back, » Vance said after taking the stage.WATCH: THOUSANDS DESCEND ON MICHIGAN TOWN FOR FIRST TRUMP RALLY SINCE FAILED ASSASSINATION ATTEMPTHe quickly began taking shots at Vice President Kamala Harris: « I’ve served in the United States Marine Corps … What the hell have you done? » »What has she done other than collect a check from her political offices? » he asked, before going on to talk about his grandmother, who he calls « Mamaw, » and his upbringing.Harris ripped Vance after is Wednesday speech at the RNC in which he accepted his role on the 2024 ticket. »It was compelling. It’s a compelling story. But it’s not the full story, » Harris said. « Frankly, what is very telling is what he did not talk about on that stage. He did not talk about Project 2025, the 900-page blueprint for a second term. He did not talk about it because their plans are extreme, and they are divisive. »He later discussed the various challenges facing the nation under President Biden’s administration, including the fentanyl crisis, the border crisis and the economy.RNC DELEGATES, GUESTS MAKE PREDICTIONS ABOUT BIDEN’S POLITICAL FUTURE AMID REPORTS HE MIGHT EXIT 2024 RACEMichigan is expected to be one of the most closely watched battleground states in November, and could narrowly determine who will serve the American people in the White House for the next four years.Get the latest updates from the 2024 campaign trail, exclusive interviews and more at our Fox News Digital election hub.

Israel strikes Iran-backed Houthis after Tehran proxy attacked Jewish state: ‘Significance is clear’

[ad_1]

JERUSALEM – Israel’s air force on Saturday launched surgical strikes against the Islamic Republic of Iran-sponsored Houthi terrorist regime in Yemen.According to an Israel Defense Forces statement, « A short while ago, IDF fighter jets struck military targets of the Houthi terrorist regime in the area of the Al Hudaydah Port in Yemen in response to the hundreds of attacks carried out against the State of Israel in recent months. »The IDF added, « There are no changes in the Home Front Command defensive guidelines. In the case of a change to the guidelines, we will update the public accordingly. »On Friday, the Houthi movement fired a lethal drone into Tel Aviv, resulting in the death of an Israeli and at least 10 injured and severe damage to buildings. The strike took place near the U.S. consulate building in Tel Aviv.LARGE EXPLOSION ROCKS TEL AVIV IN MIDDLE OF THE NIGHTIsrael’s Minister of Defense Yoav Gallant said after the strikes in Yemen: « The fire that is currently burning in Yemen, is seen across the Middle East. The first time that the Houthis harmed an Israeli citizen, we struck them. And we will do this in any place where it may be required. »He added, « I have just left the IAF [Israeli Air Force] Command Center where I met with the Prime Minister, IDF Chief of the General Staff and the Air Force Commander and closely monitored the strike conducted by IAF aircraft on the Hodeidah Port [in Yemen], 2,000 kilometers from the State of Israel. » Gallant said « the significance is clear » of the fire in Yemen is important to show Israel’s enemies what they can face.Gallant continued « The Houthis attacked us over 200 times. The first time that they harmed an Israeli citizen, we struck them. And we will do this in any place where it may be required. The blood of Israeli citizens has a price. This has been made clear in Lebanon, in Gaza, in Yemen, and in other places. If they will dare to attack us, the result will be identical. »The reference to Lebanon is directed at the Hezbollah terrorist regime that is the de facto ruler over Lebanon.A Houthi spokesperson said via a public Telegram board message that Israeli airstrikes targeted civilian facilities, oil tanks and a power station in al-Hudaydah.Houthi-linked media reported that several people were killed, according to Iran International. A Houthi official told the pro-Hezbollah news outlet in Lebanon, Al Mayadeen, that the Houthi regime will retaliate against Israel for the IDF strikes in Lebanon. The U.S.-designated terrorist entity, Hezbollah, Hamas, the Houthi regime and the Islamic Republic of Iran form the anti-American and anti-Israel « axis of resistance. »Iran International noted the IDF strikes on Saturday hit oil refining facilities in the Hodeidah port, according to sources cited by Al-Masirah TV, the main television news outlet run by the Houthi movement.YEMEN’S HOUTHI REBELS USE MISSILES, DRONES TO ATTACK 2 MORE SHIPS IN RED SEAThe Saudi Arabia-owned Al Arabiya reported that 12 Israeli aircraft, including an F35, attacked the port of Hodeidah. The Friday drone attack unsettled the Israeli public because the country’s aerial defense failed to intercept the lethal projectile, possibly because of human error. Tel Aviv is the second-largest city in the Jewish state. Israel’s aerial assault in Yemen appears to be the first-ever IDF attack on the Arab country that has been ravaged by the Houthi movement.Earlier on Saturday, Israel’s Minister of Defense Yoav Gallant held a meeting to approve operational plans together with the IDF Chief of the General Staff, Director General of the Ministry of Defense, IAF Commander, Head of the Operations Directorate, Head of the Intelligence Directorate, Head of the Strategic Affairs Directorate, Military Secretary to the Minister of Defense, and Head of the Policy and POL-MIL Bureau.Israel’s Defense Minister Yoav Gallant said in a statement: « I held an operational situation assessment this morning to review the steps required to strengthen our defense arrays in light of events overnight, as well as the intelligence and operational activities required against those responsible for the attack, » He added, « The year 2024 is marked by war. We must be prepared for every scenario and every arena. »Rear Admiral Daniel Hagari, a spokesperson for the Israel Defense Forces, said an « error » had occurred on Friday. « We are investigating the entire chain, » he said. »We will continue to do everything we can to protect Israel’s people and borders, » Hagari said. « Iran is funding, arming and directing its terror proxies in their attacks on Israel and the wider world. We will not allow Iran and its proxies to terrorize our civilians. » Fox News Digital sent press queries to the U.S. State Department and National Security Council. The slogan of the Houthis is: « Allah is great, death to America, death to Israel, curse the Jews, victory to Islam. »

Iran ‘one to two weeks away’ from weapons-grade nuclear material as US continues sanctions relief

[ad_1]

U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken warned on Friday that Iran could produce fissile nuclear material in « one or two weeks » as the State Department renews a sanctions waiver for Iraq to buy Iranian energy.Critics were quick to blame the Biden administration for enabling Iran to pursue nuclear weapons by allowing the rogue nation to sell its oil. Biden reversed many of former President Trump’s tough sanctions against Tehran. »What’s breathtaking is the complete lack of self-awareness that it was his own maximum deference policy that brought us to this moment, and worse, that his solution is to double down on the failed appeasement strategy, » Rich Goldberg, senior advisor at the Foundation for the Defense of Democracies and former Trump administration NSC official, told Fox News Digital. »Rather than snapping back the U.N. sanctions and testing maximum pressure, the administration just extended a sanctions waiver and is conducting indirect negotiations via Oman, » Goldberg lamented. Blinken spoke this week at the annual Aspen Security Forum in Colorado, addressing Iran’s march toward a nuclear weapon and admitting that « instead of being at least a year away from having the breakout capacity of producing fissile material for a nuclear weapon, (Iran) is now probably one or two weeks away from doing that. » IRAN’S ASSASSINATION PLOT AGAINST TRUMP LATEST ATTEMPT TO KILL AMERICANS ON US SOILBlinken blamed the collapse of the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) – commonly known as the Iran Nuclear Deal – for Iran’s accelerated development. He stressed that the U.S. has not seen any evidence to suggest Iran already has a nuclear weapon, Barrons reported. Iran’s acting Foreign Minister Ali Bagheri claimed that his country remained committed to the JCPOA, insisting that « America has not yet been able to return » to the deal and that Iran seeks a return to the 2015 deal. »We are not looking for a new agreement, » Bagheri told CNN earlier this week. « Neither I nor anyone else in Iran has not talked and will not talk about a new agreement. We have an agreement (signed) in 2015. »Iran continues to receive sanctions relief through waivers that the U.S. has issued since the Trump administration in 2018, allowing Iraq to import energy from Iran for 120 days at a stretch. The latest renewal occurred on July 11 as Iraq suffered widespread power outages due to the unbearable heat overloading power grids across the country, MEHR News Agency reported. YEMEN’S HOUTHI REBELS USE MISSILES, DRONES TO ATTACK 2 MORE SHIPS IN RED SEA‘’We have renewed this waiver for the 22nd time, and it is about the department permitting Iraq to purchase Iranian electricity while Iraq continues to develop its domestic generation capacity,’’ US State Department Deputy Spokesperson Vedant Patel said at a press briefing.‘’It is a waiver authority that allows the purchase of electricity over a certain period of time, in this case, 120 days, so it’s permission for an activity over a period of time,’’ Patel told Iraqi news outlet Rudaw. ‘’We have, over the past decade, seen some measurable steps of Iraq weaning off Iranian electricity,’’ Patel added. « Currently, we anticipate that they are relying on Iran for about 25% of their electricity. A number of years ago, that number was 40%. »Blinken reiterated this point, saying that Iraq has doubled its domestic output, but many American politicians remain concerned that Iran benefits from these waivers and have used the funds to help continue developing their nuclear weapons program. BIDEN LEANS ON FOREIGN POLICY TO JUSTIFY REMAINING DEMOCRAT NOMINEE: HERE’S WHAT HE’S DONEThe Biden administration insists that the funds remain out of reach for the Iranian government, instead funneling through third-party « restricted accounts » that can only purchase food, medicine, medical devices, agricultural product and other non-sanctionable transactions.Critics, however, argue that it displaces funding requirements for Iran and frees up the country’s spending so that money it would have otherwise put towards those purchase now goes toward funding its proxy groups and developing nuclear weapons. « Let’s be honest with the American people and understand that Hamas knows, and Iran knows they’re moving money around as we speak, because they know $6 billion is going to be released. That’s the reality, » Nikki Haley said last year when news broke that the State Department had agreed to release funds in exchange for U.S. prisoners in September. Behnam Ben Taleblu, a senior fellow at the Foundation for Defense of Democracies with a focus on Iranian security and political issues, told Fox News Digital that the Biden administration has remained on « auto-pilot » and pursued « short-sighted » policies when it comes to Iran, at their own peril. « With stories about Iran-backed plots to kill the former president and reports of weaponization related work in Tehran, the last thing Washington should be green-lighting is yet another waiver extension that permits the Islamic Republic to free up revenues to continue to underwrite more global terror and domestic nuclear expansion, » Taleblu said. « It’s one thing to see the need to help wean Baghdad off of Tehran and Iranian electricity and energy, but it’s another to continue to use this as a crutch for a better policy towards both Iraq and Iran. »

GOP Senate candidate says Trump/Vance rally in his swing state a sign to voters that ‘help is on the way’

Debbie Stabenow isn’t seeking re-election this year. The state is also a key presidential election battleground state that former President Trump narrowly carried in 2016 and President Biden won by a razor-thin margin four years later.Trump and his new running-mate, Sen. JD Vance of Ohio, are coming to Michigan on Saturday, to hold their first rally since Thursday’s conclusion of the Republican National Convention in Milwaukee, Wisconsin.HEAD HERE FOR THE LATEST FOX NEWS REPORTING FROM THE 2024 CAMPAIGN TRAIL »Michigan is going to be critically important, » former Rep. Mike Rogers, the front-runner for the GOP Senate nomination, emphasized in a Fox News Digital interview.Rogers, a one-time FBI special agent who later served as chair of the House Intelligence Committee during his tenure in Congress, will be at the rally on Saturday. He argued that « all of the coalitions of the Democrats are falling apart. Why. We’ve got your back. Here are the policies that are going to make your lives better. »Trump’s stop in Grand Rapids is also his second in the southwestern Michigan city since April. But President Biden’s campaign, in a statement on the eve of the Trump-Vance rally, charged that the former president’s agenda « would hurt workers, raise costs on working families while giving handouts to billionaires, and destroy unions. »Rogers will face off in Michigan’s August 6 primary against a GOP Senate field that includes wealthy investor and entrepreneur Sandy Pensler, former Rep. Justin Amash, and physician Sherry O’Donnell. He enjoys the backing of the National Republican Senatorial Committee (NRSC), which is the Senate GOP’s campaign arm. And in March, he landed the endorsement of Trump. »We’re doing exceptionally well in the primary, » said Rogers, who was interviewed in Milwaukee on Wednesday ahead of his speech at the convention that evening. He predicted that « we’re going to win the primary but we still need people to come out and get fired up. »The eventual Republican nominee will likely face off in November with Democrat Rep. Elissa Slotkin, the clear front-runner for her party’s Senate nomination.Get the latest updates from the 2024 campaign trail, exclusive interviews and more at our Fox News Digital election hub.
