Legendary sportscaster Jim Gray remembers MLB great Pete Rose

[ad_1]

Pete Rose transfixed Major League Baseball audiences for 24 years across three different organizations as he set all-time records for hits, at-bats and games played. The Clark County Coroner in Nevada confirmed to Fox News on Monday that Rose had died at the age of 83. The cause of death was not immediately known. As word about his death trickled out to the world, tributes and remembrances poured in. »Charlie Hustle, » as he was called in his glory days with the Philadelphia Phillies, Cincinnati Reds and Montreal Expos, was remembered as a polarizing figure in the baseball world who seemingly gave it his all whether he played in the afternoon, evening or in exhibition games.CLICK HERE FOR MORE SPORTS COVERAGE ON FOXNEWS.COM »Dogged, determined, relentless, competitor, vicious competitor with what he did to Ray Fosse during the All-Star Game in a game that maybe mattered back then, » legendary sportscaster Jim Gray told Fox News Digital when asked to describe the competitor Rose was for the baseball fan who is more in tune with the stars of today. « I think he played and cared about the results. He cared about his personal results. He cared about his team results and he was aggressive. The fans loved him. They loved that he showed up for work every day and gave it his all. And to my knowledge, what we saw of on the field was his pursuit to win. »Gray recalled some of his first memories of Rose on the field when he was a broadcaster for Phillies pre-game shows. Rose played in Philadelphia from 1979 to the middle of the 1983 season, when he was traded to the Expos. The greatness he brought on the field would eventually be overshadowed during his time as the Reds’ manager by a gambling scandal not seen in the sport since the 1919 Black Sox Scandal.Rose was questioned in February 1989 about whether he had gambled on baseball and, at the time, only admitted to making bets on football, basketball and horse racing and vehemently denied betting on baseball. Some of the allegations were detailed in a Sports Illustrated story which sparked lawyer John M. Dowd to conduct an investigation and deliver it to then-Commissioner Bart Giamatti.Dowd’s report was submitted to Giamatti in May 1989 and published in June 1989. The report alleged that Rose had bet on at least 52 Reds games in 1987.Rose eventually agreed to voluntarily be placed on baseball’s ineligible list with the option that he could apply for reinstatement. Gray told Fox News Digital that Rose and Giamatti wanted to figure out how he could get back into the game, but Rose’s lawyer, Reuven Katz, did not want his client to admit to gambling on baseball and take the deal that was being offered – which included Rose seeking extensive help for addiction and rehabilitation.According to Gray, Dowd told him that Katz said to Giamatti, « Peter’s a legend. » To which Giamatti replied, « No, baseball’s the legend. »PETE ROSE’S DEATH SENDS BASEBALL WORLD INTO MOURNING: ‘ABSOLUTELY HEARTBROKEN’Rose applied for reinstatement in 1992, 1998, 2003, 2015, 2020 and 2022. However, each commissioner, Fay Vincent, Bud Selig and Rob Manfred, either never acted on it or outright denied Rose’s requests. Being on the ineligible list kept Rose from being in the Baseball Hall of Fame.Rose’s support seemed to be split among legends in the game. Ted Williams said in 2000 he did not believe Rose should be in the Hall Fame. »I feel sorry for Pete Rose, but he committed the cardinal sin of baseball. He gambled, » he told The New York Times.Mike Schmidt conceded in 2017 that Rose would not get into the Hall of Fame but wondered why the hitting machine never got the « same level of forgiveness » other guys have when it came to performance-enhancing drugs, according to the Philly Voice.Years later, Rose admitted to betting on baseball in an autobiography despite repeated denials – including one in a famous 1999 interview with Gray at Turner Field when he was honored as part of the All-Century Team.Additionally, as sports gambling became more prevalent across the United States, Manfred made clear that reinstating Rose would be « an unacceptable risk. »Gray, who wrote about Rose in his book, « Talking to GOATs: The Moments You Remember and the Stories You Never Heard, » said he did not think it was strange that Rose was still ineligible even with baseball’s close ties to gambling. »No, I don’t find that strange, » Gray told Fox News Digital. « The rules were the rules and the rules were applied to him based on the conditions at the time that this was going on. He signed his own banishment from baseball with the opportunity to reapply and none of those applications were successful. »So, he knew the conditions, and he agreed to those conditions. And just because the times have changed and things have changed doesn’t alter in any way the main fundamental issue. And that is any active manager, player, or anybody in an official capacity involved in baseball can ever gamble on the sport. No sport can ever accept that, and if caught doing so, then the punishment has to be severe. »Gray added that he still thought Rose deserved to be in the hallowed halls of Cooperstown but with an explanation about his wrongdoings. »Having said all that and understanding that the Hall of Famer is coupled with being banned from baseball and no gambling. We don’t live in the Soviet Union. And you can’t erase a man’s records. And what he did on the field is worthy of the Hall of Fame because he had more hits than anybody, and he was prolific at that. And the plaque and the honor never, obviously, came during his life. If they were to do it posthumously, perhaps it should reflect that he was banned from baseball and the reason and the reason why on the plaque – for gambling. But he should be in the Hall of Fame. You just can’t say it didn’t exist. »Follow Fox News Digital’s sports coverage on X, and subscribe to the Fox News Sports Huddle newsletter.

Montana GOP Senate candidate Sheehy says he was in Afghanistan while Jon Tester was ‘eating lobbyist steak’

[ad_1]

Montana U.S. Senate candidate Tim Sheehy, a Republican, ripped his opponent, incumbent Democrat Sen. Jon Tester, for his ties to lobbyists during a debate on Monday.Tester is seeking to hold onto his Senate seat to continue representing the red state of Montana in a race that could determine which party controls the upper chamber of Congress, and recent polling shows that Sheehy is leading just weeks before Election Day.During the debate on Monday, Sheehy knocked his Democrat opponent for his relationship with lobbyists in Washington, D.C. »Sen. Tester knows all about backroom meetings, he’s been taking them for 20 years … While I was fighting in Afghanistan, he was eating lobbyist steak in D.C., » said Sheehy, a former U.S. Navy SEAL.’WHOEVER GETS ELECTED’: VULNERABLE DEM TESTER DIGS IN HEELS ON NOT ENDORSING HARRISLobbyists have donated more heavily to Tester during this election cycle than to any other member of Congress, according to the non-partisan group OpenSecrets.Tester is the last remaining Democrat to hold high office in Montana, where Republicans, including former President Trump, supported Sheehy’s campaign with the hope that he could defeat the vulnerable Democrat and help the GOP win back control of the Senate.Republicans need to gain only two seats in next month’s election to win the Senate majority. GOP West Virginia Gov. Jim Justice is considered a lock in his state’s Senate race against Democrat Glenn Elliott, meaning the Senate majority could run through Montana.Trump won Montana by about 17 percentage points in 2020 and, given that the state is overwhelmingly Republican, Sheehy has often sought to tie Tester to President Joe Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris as the Republican candidate looks to take advantage of public dissatisfaction over the administration’s struggles to address the influx of illegal immigration at the Southern Border.JON TESTER CASTS DOUBT ON UNFAVORABLE POLL IN MONTANA SENATE RACE: ‘GIVE ME A BREAK' »Democrats on the Hill refused to hold the administration accountable for the largest mass migration in the history of this country, » Sheehy said.Tester, however, has declined to endorse Harris and has attempted to distance himself from her on the campaign trail, and he skipped the Democratic National Convention in August, when she was named the party’s nominee for president after Biden dropped out.The Democrat has also criticized some of the administration’s policy decisions. This includes his opposition to the move for tighter pollution rules for coal plants and his calls for more to be done on immigration. »Look, I’ll be the first person to tell you that President Biden has not done a good job on the southern border, » Tester said Monday.Sheehy and Tester also addressed abortion, in which the Democrat said he wants to reinstate Roe v. Wade after the landmark ruling was overturned by the U.S. Supreme Court two years ago, returning the power to make laws regarding abortion back to the states. The Republican acknowledged that remarks he made last year about Native Americans were « insensitive, » but refused his opponent’s request to apologize. Sheehy had told a group of laughing supporters about bonding « with all the Indians … while they’re drunk at 8 a.m., » while working cattle at a ranch on the Crow Indian Reservation. »Yeah, insensitive, » Sheehy said. « I come from the military as many of our tribal members do. You know, we make insensitive jokes and probably off-color jokes sometimes. »Tester pressed his opponent, « Tim, the statement you made degrades Native Americans across this country. You’re a big guy, just apologize. » »Will you apologize for opening the border? » Sheehy shot back. The Associated Press contributed to this report.

Does everyone need to take vitamins — and which are most important? Here’s what to know

[ad_1]

Advertisements and social media often suggest that vitamin supplements are important for optimal health — but are they really essential for everyone? »Vitamins have become a multi-billion-dollar industry, with shelves full of supplements promising better health, more energy and a longer life, » Andrea Soares, a registered dietitian from Top Nutrition Coaching in Miami, Florida, told Fox News Digital.Just over 57% of American adults took dietary supplements between 2017 and 2020, with multivitamins and minerals being the most popular, according to a recent report from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). DAILY MULTIVITAMINS MIGHT NOT HELP YOU LIVE LONGER, STUDY FINDSBut what does this mean for you? Fox News Digital spoke to the experts to find out.Vitamins are nutrients that are essential for the body to function normally, according to Jennifer Messer, president of the New Hampshire Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics and a registered dietitian in New Hampshire. »We cannot make vitamins in our bodies, and so we must get them in our diets, » she told Fox News Digital.(The one exception is vitamin D, which people can also get from the sun.)Vitamins are either fat-soluble or water-soluble, according to the National Institutes of Health (NIH).BE WELL: PREPARE A DINNER RICH IN VITAMIN D FOR GOOD HEALTHFat-soluble vitamins — A, D, E and K — are stored in the body’s fatty tissue, liver and muscles, so they are absorbed better when taken with fatty foods.Water-soluble vitamins are not stored in the body, so any excess amount is usually excreted in the urine.Thirteen vitamins are considered « essential. » These include vitamins A, C, D, E and K, as well as the B vitamins (thiamine, riboflavin, niacin, pantothenic acid, biotin, B6, B12 and folate), according to the NIH. »For most people, a well-balanced diet is sufficient to meet daily vitamin needs, » Soares told Fox News Digital.Vitamin A is easily obtained from eating a balanced diet, vitamin E is abundant in common foods, and most people get enough vitamin C if they eat fruits and vegetables like oranges, strawberries and bell peppers, she said. Some people don’t get enough vitamins from dietary sources, however.Certain vitamin deficiencies can potentially cause health problems. »In the U.S., the FDA updated nutrition labels to reflect nutrients of public health concern due to deficiencies or inadequacies in the general population, » Messer told Fox News Digital.Vitamin A helps maintain good eyesight, for example — and children who get an inadequate amount are at risk for blindness, according to the CDC. As vitamin D supports bone health and immune function, people with limited sun exposure may be more prone to bone diseases like osteoporosis, research has shown. »As of recent regulations, vitamin D is required on nutrition labels, » Messer noted.IV THERAPY CRAZE HAS AMERICANS PUMPING VITAMINS INTO THEIR VEINS: RESULTS ARE ‘PRETTY DRAMATIC’Vitamin B12 is essential for red blood cell production and nerve function, according to Soares.Folate supports DNA synthesis and prevents neural tube defects (birth defects of the brain, spine or spinal cord), so it is important for women to get adequate amounts before and during early pregnancy, per the CDC.It’s a common misconception, however, that vitamin supplements are beneficial for everyone, according to Messer. »Technically, all vitamins are necessary — however, it is unnecessary to supplement a vitamin unless you are found to be deficient, » she said. »An individual’s supplement requirements will vary based on medical conditions, dietary restrictions, malabsorption issues and nutrient deficiencies. »Certain groups may have a greater need for vitamin supplements than others. »While a vegan diet can fulfill many nutrient requirements, there are certain vitamins, such as vitamin B12 and vitamin D, that may need closer attention, » Messer said.People who need to avoid certain foods due to allergies or intolerances may also require supplementation. People managing certain gastrointestinal conditions like Celiac disease, Crohn’s disease or ulcerative colitis can have impaired nutrient absorption, particularly with fat-soluble vitamins, Messer noted.IMPROVING MEMORY MAY BE AS EASY AS POPPING A MULTIVITAMIN, STUDY FINDSLiver disease can also impair the body’s ability to store some vitamins, particularly those that are fat-soluble.Chronic kidney disease can affect the balance of certain vitamins, especially vitamin D, Messer said.Athletes with a high training load may also require additional vitamins to support energy metabolism and bone health, she added.Experts recommend consulting with a doctor before taking a supplement. A simple blood test can reveal if any nutrients are at deficient levels.Fat-soluble vitamins — A, D, E and K — can accumulate in the body and lead to toxicity if taken in excess, according to Messer. »Water-soluble vitamins (like B and C) are generally excreted if taken in excess, but mega-dosing can still have unwanted side effects, » she told Fox News Digital. The quality and safety of dietary supplements can vary widely, as they are not FDA-regulated. »It’s important to choose reputable brands and products due to possible variances in the amount of nutrients listed on the label, as well as potential contamination, » Messer advised. She recommends searching for a third-party tested seal on the supplement’s label, such as « USP Verified, » which indicates that the product « contains the ingredients listed on the label in the declared potency and amounts. »Many people often inquire about vitamin D supplements, Messer said.CLICK HERE TO SIGN UP FOR OUR HEALTH NEWSLETTER »It’s important to supplement only with the required amount of vitamin D if a deficiency is confirmed through labs, » she cautioned.(The Endocrine Society — a global organization focused on endocrinology and metabolism — now no longer recommends routine screening or vitamin D supplementation for healthy adults under the age of 75 years old.) »It can be dangerous if vitamin D levels remain high over a prolonged period, as excessive amounts may cause an array of issues, including kidney stones, » Messer added. It’s also important to be aware of any potential interactions between vitamins and other medications, experts say.For more Health articles, visit www.foxnews.com/health »Medication interactions occur when vitamins like K reduce the effectiveness of blood thinners, or calcium affects antibiotic absorption, » Soares warned.Experts recommend talking to your doctor before starting any new supplements to discuss potential risks and safe dosage amounts.

Eric Adams defense hinges on Supreme Court ruling in heartland trucking case

[ad_1]

Months after the Supreme Court sided with an Indiana mayor who took payment from a Peterbilt dealer in a small-town bribery case, New York City Mayor Eric Adams is relying on the precedent as he revs up the fight against his own federal corruption charges. But some experts say the effort may run out of gas before it picks up speed.Federal prosecutors rely on a law known as Section 666 to take down corrupt officials who accept bribes, but they have also been accused of trying to blur the definition of a bribe. They also have to prove an « official act » took place in exchange for whatever the allegedly corrupt politician was raking in.NYC MAYOR ERIC ADAMS PLEDGES TO ‘REIGN’ NOT RESIGNIn 2016, the Justice Department filed corruption charges against James Snyder, former Republican mayor of Portage, Indiana, under the Section 666 rule.He oversaw a $1.1 million deal to buy garbage trucks for the city from Great Lakes Peterbilt in 2013, according to court filings. In 2014, he received a $13,000 check from the dealership. The FBI and federal prosecutors accused him of taking the money as a kickback for the truck sales. Snyder said it was payment for consulting services in a state where public officials are allowed to have outside employment. He was convicted at trial, but his legal saga continued for years. After successfully seeking a retrial, he wound up convicted again and then lost his first appeal. But in a 6-3 opinion written by Justice Brett Kavanaugh, the Supreme Court ruled in his favor, explaining that anti-bribery laws don’t make all payments illegal, especially if they come after the fact without any evidence of a corrupt agreement. Read Eric Adams’ latest court filing:FEDS SEIZE ERIC ADAMS’ PHONE AFTER NYC MAYOR’S INDICTMENTSnyder accepted a « gratuity, » not a bribe, the court found. The court described gratuities as two forms of payment, neither of which met the definition of a bribe. The first is something given as a « thanks, » anything from a fancy lunch to a framed photograph. The second are gifts designed to « curry favor » but not in exchange for anything specific. In a dissent by Justice Ketanji Brown Jackson, the court’s liberal wing countered that there was still evidence of corruption that would have made Snyder’s payment unlawful. Kavanaugh wrote that the gratuities were not a federal crime but could still violate state and local ethics rules. Snyder was not accused of any crimes at the state level.ADAMS’ OFFICE LASHES OUT AT FBI EMPLOYEE WHO MIGHT HAVE ‘IMPROPERLY LEAKED DETAILS’ OF CORRUPTION PROBEKavanaugh also warned that if a federal law did crack down on gratuities, it could unlawfully infringe on states’ right to regulate interactions between their own officials and constituents.Adams’ lawyers are arguing that the mayor never accepted any bribes and never took any actions in his official capacity to make good on a quid quo pro.Anthony Capozzolo, a former federal prosecutor who handled public corruption cases in a neighboring district, said prosecutors clearly spelled out the alleged quid quo pro in Adams’ indictment but that the mayor could have a better chance proving he made no « official act. » »This issue about him not being the mayor at the time, and what is the official act? That may get more scrutiny from the court, » Capozzolo told Fox News Digital.Adams’ lawyer, Alex Spiro, wrote in the motion Monday that prosecutors failed to lay out an actual bribery case. »The indictment in this case alleges a ‘bribery’ scheme that does not meet the definition of bribery and indeed does not amount to a federal crime at all, » Spiro wrote in a court filing revealed Monday. « It appears that after years of casting about for something, anything, to support a federal charge against New York City Mayor Eric Adams, prosecutors had settled on a theory that depended on the Department’s longstanding view that Section 666 criminalizes gratuities, including gifts meant to curry favor with governmental officials but not linked to any specific question or matter, » Spiro wrote. « When the Supreme Court rejected that interpretation in June, prosecutors simply added a few vague allegations and called their theory bribery — ‘a far more serious offense than gratuities.’ »Adams’ defense argued that the Justice Department’s case « doesn’t work. » »The indictment does not allege that Mayor Adams agreed to perform any official act at the time that he received a benefit. Rather, it alleges only that while serving as Brooklyn Borough President—not Mayor, or even Mayor-elect—he agreed generally to assist with the ‘operation’ or ‘regulation’ of a Turkish Consulate building in Manhattan, where he had no authority whatsoever, in exchange for travel benefits, » Spiro wrote. At issue are three text messages that prosecutors say Adams, during a past term as Brooklyn’s borough president, sent to the former FDNY commissioner, Daniel Nigro. But there is additional context and conversations surrounding the texts that may convince the court they are less innocent than they sound when read alone, Capozzolo said.Eric Adams texts to FDNY commissioner: Spiro asked the court to dismiss the bribery charge due to the Snyder precedent and argued that the rest of the charges should get tossed because they were allegedly based on « a host of false claims evidently attributable to a self-interested staffer with an axe to grind. »NYC MAYOR ERIC ADAMS’ ELECTRONIC DEVICES SEIZED BY FBI AMID CAMPAIGN INVESTIGATIONBut Capozzolo pointed to page 33 of the indictment, where prosecutors spelled out an alleged series of phone calls between Adams, a staffer and a Turkish official, in which the official told Adams it was « his turn » to repay a favor and the mayor allegedly replied, « I know. » »That’s about as quid pro quo as you’re going to get, » Capozzolo said.Read the Eric Adams indictment:On the other hand, the government may have an uphill battle proving Adams actually returned the Turks a favor with an official act. »Adams may have a chance of getting the charge dismissed as a result, » Neama Rahmani, another former federal prosecutor, told Fox News Digital. He said the Snyder decision « significantly » weakened the federal bribery law and noted that it’s not uncommon to see convictions under the statute get overturned on appeal. »The Supreme Court has also required an official act for a bribery conviction, » he said. « Adams was a candidate for mayor, but he was the Brooklyn borough president at the time, which means he didn’t have official authority over a building in Manhattan. The defense is using that important fact to argue that there could be no official act for the purpose of the bribery statute. »CLICK HERE TO GET THE FOX NEWS APPBefore the Justice Department announced Adams’ indictment last week, the mayor accused federal investigators of retaliation over his criticism of President Biden and Vice President Harris for their handling of the southern border, which he said led to a migrant crisis in New York City that overloaded its shelter system. The influx of illegal immigrants coincided with a spike in robberies in the Big Apple, city police said earlier this year.Still, the federal investigation has ensnared numerous people in the mayor’s orbit, including campaign staffers, city officials and even his former police commissioner, in an alleged corruption ring of such a scale that Capozzolo said it’s a throwback to the 1800s-era Tammany Hall and Boss Tweed. Adams could face up to 45 years in prison if convicted of all charges, which include one count of conspiracy to receive campaign contributions from foreign nationals and commit wire fraud and bribery, one count of wire fraud, two counts of soliciting campaign contributions from foreign nationals, and one count of soliciting and accepting a bribe.

New Hampshire parents sue school district for banning them over ‘silent protest’ against trans soccer player

[ad_1]

A group of New Hampshire parents and a grandparent filed a lawsuit against a school district on Monday over their removal from a girls soccer game for holding a protest against a transgender player.Kyle Fellers, Anthony Foote, Nicole Foote and Eldon Rash filed the federal lawsuit against the Bow School District, Superintendent of Schools Marcy Kelley, Principal Matt Fisk, Athletic Director Mike Desilets, Bow Police Lieutenant Phil Lamy and soccer referee Steve Rossetti. The lawsuit says Fellers and Anthony Foote were banned from a Sept. 17 girls soccer game between Bow High School and Plymouth Regional High School in which they were wearing pink wristbands with « XX » displayed to symbolize the female chromosome structure and express their support for biological female athletes. The « silent protest » at Bow High School, the lawsuit says, intended to « show solidarity » with the Bow team and oppose a policy that allowed a transgender girl to play on Plymouth’s team.NEW HAMPSHIRE PARENT BANNED FOR WEARING ARMBANDS IN SUPPORT OF WOMEN’S SPORTS TO DAUGHTER’S SOCCER GAMEBow school officials and a police officer confronted the plaintiffs during the game and instructed them to remove the wristbands, the lawsuit says. But when the plaintiffs refused to remove them, a referee allegedly paused the game and said Bow would be forced to forfeit the game if the wristbands were not removed.Fellers and Anthony Foote were given « No Trespass Orders » banning them from school grounds and events after the incident, which included barring them picking their children up from after-school practices. Anthony Foote was banned until September 23, while Fellers was prohibited from returning for the remainder of the fall term. »Parents don’t shed their First Amendment rights at the entrance to a school’s soccer field, » Fellers said in a statement. « We wore pink wristbands to silently support our daughters and their right to fair competition. Instead of fostering open dialogue, school officials responded with threats and bans that have a direct impact on our lives and our children’s lives. And this fight isn’t just about sports—it’s about protecting our fundamental right to free speech. »The lawsuit seeks to prevent the « unconstitutional application » of several school policies, including those that require « mutual respect, civility, and orderly conduct » and that prohibit actions that « injure, threaten, harass, or intimidate » or « impede, delay, disrupt, or otherwise interfere with any school activity or function. »The plaintiffs asked the court to enjoin the school from using these policies to restrict non-disruptive expression of political or social views at school events, including silently wearing wristbands or displaying signs in the parking lot in opposition to allowing transgender girls to compete on girls’ sports teams. »The idea that I would be censored and threatened with removal from a public event for standing by my convictions is not just a personal affront—it is an infringement on the very rights I swore to defend, » Anthony Foote said. « I spent 31 years in the United States Army, including three combat tours, and the school district in the town I was born in—the one my family has seven generations of history in—took away those rights. I sometimes wonder if I should have been here, fighting for our rights, rather than overseas. »GOP GOVERNOR REVEALS WHY HE ORDERED SCHOOLS TO BAR TRANSGENDER ATHLETES FROM GIRLS SPORTSEarlier this month, a federal judge temporarily blocked a New Hampshire law prohibiting transgender females from playing on sports teams based on their preferred gender identity.

Biden to visit North Carolina days after Helene’s path of destruction leaves many devastated

[ad_1]

President Biden announced on Monday that he will visit North Carolina on Wednesday after Hurricane Helene ravaged the state. The president’s announcement comes after critics slammed him for a lack of leadership after the monster storm’s devastating impact on the southeastern portion of the country. More than 120 people have been killed by Helene since the hurricane made landfall in Florida late Thursday before tearing a path of destruction through the interior Southeast. The storm caused millions of power outages and billions in property damage as it smashed through the southern Appalachian Mountains and into the Tennessee Valley. ASHEVILLE RESIDENTS BATTLING ‘APOCALYPTIC’ AFTERMATH OF HURRICANE HELENE AFTER DEADLY FLOODING, LANDSLIDESWhile days have passed since the storm struck the region, Biden has not visited the area nor had plans to until now. »On Wednesday, I’ll travel to North Carolina for a briefing at the State Emergency Operations Center and to participate in an aerial tour of Asheville, » Biden said in a post on X. « I’ve ensured my travel will not disrupt the ongoing response. I plan to travel to Georgia and Florida as soon as possible. »But the president’s announcement was followed by harsh criticism from the public, with one person writing, « Joe Biden’s visit is too little, too late. »Another person wrote, « Don’t come to Florida we got hit ground zero. The governor is covering it, » referring to Florida Gov. GREG GUTFELD: What you don’t know in today’s America can hurt you a whole lot

[ad_1]

So Friday, a massive story broke out about how our government allowed thousands of rapists and murderers into our country. The source was not some right-wing think tank, a shut-in on social media, or worse, some freaks on morning TV. It was ICE, our own Immigration and Customs Enforcement. Among the non-detained illegals, over 400,000 are convicted criminals, including tens of thousands convicted of sexual assault and homicide. You know, you think that a report from those in charge of the border telling us that tens of thousands of thugs have entered and remain here would sort of hit the news. But the media was as quiet as Joe Biden watching Jeopardy and trying to play along. They ignored it the way Hillary ignores having her hooves trimmed. Instead, it was reported on X and on Fox. The reason is simple: The legacy news decided the story had to be contained, and so they pulled the plug like Andrew Cuomo at an old folks home. Tens of thousands of rapists and murderers dead and violated Americans and you weren’t even told about it. Remember that the next time you have the urge to trust the media. Trust them as far as you can throw them. And if you’re trying to throw anyone from « The View, » have the number of a good chiropractor. So, how does a huge story break and it only shows up here and there? It’s like a sewer pipe after Taco Tuesday, maxed out, ready to burst. But instead of calling a plumber, the media forms a seal against it to keep it contained. That’s how the news works these days. With the exception of a few outlets, there’s an ideological seal by our media against the natural flow of information to the American voter, and it’s to prevent anything but the approved election outcome. Approved by them, of course, not you. HARRIS HEADS TO SOUTHERN BORDER LOOKING TO FLIP SCRIPT ON IMMIGRATION CRITICISMSAnd when the pressure gets too much, that sewer pipe bursts and you’re the one who has to deal with all the s***. If America knew what happened at the border under Biden-Harris, with tens of thousands of murderers and rapists freed into our country, they’d never in their right minds vote for Harris or any Democrat, no matter how many staged photo ops she takes at a border she helped destroy. Harris visiting our southern border is sort of like Sherman coming back to Atlanta or Alec Baldwin shooting a remake of Young Guns. So, of course, the news must be suppressed. They aren’t even fact-checking the stats because they don’t have any. And no one feels better hearing, hey, you know, it’s actually only 10,000 violent invaders followed by oh and please call them foreign exchange students. Even worse, so-called sanctuary policies limit local law enforcement cooperation with federal authorities, so ICE can’t even arrest illegals convicted of crimes. Some communities ignore requests from ICE to hold criminals longer so the agency can’t take them into custody. The result? More vicious, more violent crime in your neighborhood, around your family, your kids. The news may shock you, but it’s not your fault. You just haven’t been approved to know about what’s really going on. And sadly, in America these days, what you don’t know can hurt you a whole lot. Now, this is an issue where we should be able to achieve that political holy grail, bipartisan consensus, because there’s no question that most, if not all, Americans are against rape and murder and therefore against the influx of thousands of rapists and murderers into our country. TRUMP BLAMES HARRIS AMID DATA SHOWING TENS OF THOUSANDS CRIMINAL MIGRANTS IN US: ‘DELIBERATELY ERASED’ BORDERAfter all, who could be for that? Besides the makers of ski masks and bleach. So we’re left to ask, why is this happening? Maybe they’re doing crimes Americans don’t want to do. But why aren’t the legacy media even bothered by it? Is it because they’re protected from the violent consequences? Or do they fear the political consequences? It’s both. Because aside from trying to game this election, you can bet there are very few migrant rapists running around in the New York Times newsroom or on George Clooney’s Lake Como estate. But you, like workers with a desk near Brian Stelter’s bathroom, you are just collateral damage. So, at the same time, the progressive left hides the actual results of their disastrous policies from you. They’re making damn sure they’re insulating themselves from those results. It’s just so much easier to be a progressive from DNC headquarters.

Jared Goff throws for 2 touchdowns, catches 1 as Lions top Seahawks

[ad_1]

The Detroit Lions and Seattle Seahawks were back at Ford Field in the Motor City, and just like last year’s matchup between these two teams, there was tons of offense on display. But, unlike the final result of last season’s game, the Lions came out victorious, 42-29, in the offensive onslaught on « Monday Night Football. »The Lions improved to 3-1 on the year, while handing the Seahawks their first loss of the year. CLICK HERE FOR MORE SPORTS COVERAGE ON FOXNEWS.COMThe Lions put together six touchdown drives on a Seahawks defense that let up just 14.3 points per game over the first three weeks of the year. And offensive coordinator Ben Johnson pulled out all the stops to do so, including an Amon-Ra St. Brown touchdown pass to quarterback Jared Goff. We’ve had the « Philly Special » with the Philadelphia Eagles in the Super Bowl, but the Lions introduced the « Detroit Special, » as the team’s fourth touchdown of the game saw Goff throw the ball behind him to St. Brown and run a route out to the left where his top wide receiver hit him in stride for the seven-yard score to make it 28-14 in the second half. LIONS PRO BOWL CENTER FRANK RAGNOW DECLARED OUT FOR WEEK 4 WITH PECTORAL INJURYPrior to that, it was the dynamic duo in the backfield for Detroit, David Montgomery and Jahmyr Gibbs, scoring the first three touchdowns on the ground. First, it was Montgomery reaching across the goal line to get Detroit on the board first. Then, the speedy Gibbs scored the next two touchdowns for Detroit, who ended the first half up 21-7 on Seattle. But this game wasn’t a total blowout, as Geno Smith and the Seahawks’ offense remained determined to keep their win-loss record without a blemish early this season. They scored on back-to-back touchdown drives in the second half, as Smith found the rookie tight end A.J. Barner for his first end zone trip of his career and Kenneth Walker, making his season debut after dealing with injury, scored his second touchdown of the game to make it 28-20 after a failed two-point conversion attempt. But the Lions just continued to find the end zone in response, and they needed just one play to do so. Jameson Williams caught a dig route from Goff, and his speed was on full display as he bolted 70 yards for the team’s fifth touchdown of the night. The Seahawks would again find the end zone, as Walker went 21 yards for his third rushing score of the night to keep his team in the game. However, the Lions put the dagger in this game with St. Brown on the receiving end of an eight-yard pass this time from Goff to make it 42-27. Goff went a perfect 18-of-18 through the air for the Lions for 292 yards with two touchdown passes, while making his second career reception on that touchdown catch from St. Brown. St. Brown had six catches for 45 yards, while Williams’ 70-yard touchdown was almost all of his 80 yards to lead the Lions through the air. On the ground, Gibbs had 78 yards rushing on 14 carries, while Montgomery had 40 on 12 touches. Montgomery also had a 40-yard catch-and-run that showcased his strength as he fought through many tacklers. For Seattle, Geno Smith set new career highs in attempts (56), completions (38), and yards passing (395). But after throwing an interception in a desperation drive past the two-minute warning, those numbers were in a loss which Smith likely will remember more. Walker’s return to Seattle’s offense, though, leaves optimism moving forward as he had 80 yards rushing on 12 carries with his three touchdowns, while catching four passes for 36 yards. D.K. Metcalf was Smith’s top target with seven catches for 104 yards. Tyler Lockett (5 catches, 61 yards) and Jaxon Smith-Njigba (8 catches, 51 yards) helped out Smith through the air as well.  Follow Fox News Digital’s sports coverage on X, and subscribe to the Fox News Sports Huddle newsletter.

72 days: Kamala Harris has yet to do formal press conference since emerging as Democratic nominee

[ad_1]

Vice President Kamala Harris has gone 72 days as the presumptive, and now, official Democratic nominee for president without holding an official press conference. Trump held his third news conference since the beginning of August last month in California, taking the opportunity to roast his opponent’s home state and hold forth on a number of topics, including crime, immigration and inflation.BERNIE SANDERS SAYS HARRIS DROPPING FAR-LEFT POLICIES ‘IN ORDER TO WIN THE ELECTION’Harris has stepped up her interviews in recent weeks, including doing radio hits and a solo sit-down with a Philadelphia TV station. She also spoke to MSNBC’s Stephanie Ruhle and she made time to hang out with supporter Oprah Winfrey last month at a star-studded campaign event. But as for when she’ll actually do a formal press conference as a candidate, that day may never come, at least while she’s still a candidate.Conservative Radio Libre host Jorge Bonilla feels Harris should do a press conference but said it’s almost « irrelevant » because she continues to get a pass. HARRIS DODGES QUESTION ON LOWERING PRICES BY DESCRIBING ‘MIDDLE-CLASS’ ROOTS: NEIGHBORS ‘PROUD OF THEIR LAWN’ »She is highly unlikely to do a press conference because the media have enabled and encouraged her ‘plexiglass basement’ strategy, wherein she preserves the illusion of being out there while remaining wholly inaccessible to the press and therefore unaccountable, » Bonilla told Fox News Digital. In her interview in Philadelphia, her answer citing her middle-class upbringing when asked about specifics of her economic policy drew sharp criticism.BARBARA WALTERS WOULD EXPECT KAMALA HARRIS TO DO INTERVIEWS, AUTHOR SAYS: ‘PART OF THE JOB OF BEING PRESIDENT' »You know, I grew up in a neighborhood of folks who were very proud of their lawn, » she said. « And I was raised to believe and to know that all people deserve dignity, and that we as Americans have a beautiful character. You know, we have ambitions and aspirations and dreams, but not everyone necessarily has access to the resources that can help them fuel those dreams and ambitions. « So when I talk about building an opportunity economy, it is very much with the mind of investing in the ambitions and aspirations and the incredible work ethic of the American people and creating opportunity for people, for example, to start a small business. »Fox News Digital’s Paul Steinhauser contributed to this report.

Federal judge dismisses nursing home COVID death case against former New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo

[ad_1]

A federal judge on Monday dismissed a lawsuit against former New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo over his handling of nursing home deaths during the COVID-19 pandemic. New York families with relatives who died from COVID-19 in nursing homes filed the lawsuit in early 2022, accusing Cuomo’s administration of undercounting fatalities. « During the last four years, the debate over COVID in nursing homes has been weaponized, distorted and contorted beyond recognition by those using this situation for their own politics, » Cuomo spokesman Rich Azzopardi said in a statement to Fox News. « However, anytime this gets taken out of the political arena, the truth wins. The judge today ruled to dismiss this case just as the DOJ – which launched three separate probes – and the Manhattan district attorney did previously. Once again, justice has prevailed. » LATEST COVID VARIANT, XEC, HAS SPREAD TO HALF OF US STATES, REPORTS SAYCuomo was widely lauded in the early months of the pandemic, but his reputation took a hit amid revelations that his administration released an incomplete accounting of the deaths at nursing homes and assisted living facilities. He resigned from office in August 2021 amid sexual harassment allegations, which he denies. Cuomo testified before the subcommittee in June, but it was behind closed doors. Top former Cuomo administration officials also were interviewed as part of the investigation.A separate state report commissioned by Cuomo’s successor, Gov. Kathy Hochul, and released this summer, found that while the policies on how nursing homes should handle COVID-19 were « rushed and uncoordinated, » they were based on the best understanding of the science at the time.Cuomo faced a grilling from Republican lawmakers earlier this month during a congressional subcommittee hearing. Republicans who questioned the Democrat zeroed in on a controversial directive his administration issued in March of 2020 that initially barred nursing homes from refusing to accept patients just because they’d had COVID-19. More than 9,000 recovering coronavirus patients were released from hospitals into nursing homes under the directive, which was rescinded amid speculation that it had accelerated outbreaks.‘YOU ARE CULPABLE’: STEFANIK DEMANDS CUOMO APOLOGIZE FOR COVID NURSING HOME DEATHS IN HEATED EXCHANGECuomo defended his actions and blamed the former Trump administration for failing to provide enough testing and personal protective equipment in the early days of the pandemic. »These are all diversions to blame New York and other states for the culpability of the federal response, which was malpractice, » Cuomo said.A report issued by the House committee didn’t delve into the question of whether significant numbers of people discharged from hospitals were still contagious with the virus when they were readmitted to nursing homes, or whether they then passed the virus to other patients.Cuomo told the panel that its report provided no evidence to support the allegation that the directive helped spread the virus. There were about 15,000 COVID-19 deaths among long-term care residents in New York, far more than the initial number disclosed. Cuomo said some figures were initially withheld out of concerns about accuracy. The Associated Press contributed to this report.

Will Ferrell claims transphobia stems from ‘not being confident or safe with yourself’

[ad_1]

Actor Will Ferrell claims « transphobia » comes from people « not being confident » in themselves. The 57-year-old comedian spoke to The Independent on Thursday about his recent Netflix documentary « Will & Harper, » which follows Ferrell and former « Saturday Night Live » writer Harper Steele as they travel across the country and explore Steele’s gender transition.Ferrell said he previously had no knowledge about the transgender community but has since learned about the dangers of transphobia. »There is hatred out there, » Ferrell said. « It’s very real, and it’s very unsafe for trans people in certain situations. » ‘BIGGEST MEDICAL FRAUD OF OUR TIME’: RILEY GAINES DIVES INTO THE HEART OF GENDER-AFFIRMING CARE EPIDEMICHe also suggested transphobia emerged because « we fear what we don’t know. » »But I don’t know why trans people are meant to be threatening to me as a cis male. I don’t know why Harper is threatening to me, » Ferrell said. He added, « It’s so strange to me, because Harper is finally… her. She’s finally who she was always meant to be. Whether or not you can ultimately wrap your head around that, why would you care if somebody’s happy? Why is that threatening to you? If the trans community is a threat to you, I think it stems from not being confident or safe with yourself. »The film’s director, Josh Greenbaum, told The Independent that while he intended the film to be apolitical, there was an intentional effort to reach a more « bro-y » audience with Ferrell. »It’d be disingenuous not to point out that we were aware of the reach that Will Ferrell has, » Greenbaum said. « The fanbase he has crosses all spectrums, but it also has a very traditionally straight, cis-male, bro-y [element]. On some level, for sure, we want to reach that audience. But it was very important to me, and to Harper, that we were also representing the queer community. »Steele remarked that sometimes transphobia can come from left-wing media as well.  CLICK HERE FOR MORE COVERAGE OF MEDIA AND CULTURE »’The New York Times’ is kind of the center of that – generally left-leaning, but also sometimes very anti-trans. It’s odd… » Steele said to The Independent. « It’s why I first tend to ask reporters who interview me if they believe in me. Do they believe that I exist? That I’m valid? Because that’s not always part of the conversation. I like to start there. Because there are many people in the liberal community who can’t seem to get their heads around it for one reason or another. » »Will & Harper » premiered on Netflix Friday.CLICK HERE TO GET THE FOX NEWS APP

Jean-Pierre says ICE data showing 13,000 illegal immigrant murder convicts are in US is ‘confusing’ Americans

[ad_1]

White House press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre was pressed by Fox News’ senior White House correspondent Peter Doocy on the news that tens of thousands of illegal immigrants in the U.S. have serious criminal records. Jean-Pierre responded to the line of questioning about the Border Patrol numbers by claiming it was a « false representation of the data. » Doocy said, « 13,000 people who have been convicted of murder across the border illegally and are living among us. So how much danger are U.S. communities in right now? » « I think it’s important to correct the record here, » she responded. « It’s been fact-checked by some of your colleagues here, by multiple outlets. The Israeli military also confirmed that Nabil Kaouk, the deputy head of Hezbollah’s Central Council, was eliminated by IDF forces.Shortly before Monday’s operation, the IDF imposed a closed military zone on northern Israeli border communities including Metula, Misgav Am, and Kfar Giladi.BIDEN SAYS HE WILL TALK TO NETANYAHU AS ISRAEL PUMMELS SUNNI TERROR TARGETS IN BEIRUTThe incursion began after the Israeli military launched airstrikes on central Beirut on Sunday, marking the first time in the year-long war that the central part of the Lebanese capital was targeted. The IDF previously aimed towards south Beirut, which is a stronghold for Hezbollah. ‘Immediately reconvene’: Scott urges Schumer to recall Senate amid Helene’s devastation

[ad_1]

Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer needs to « immediately reconvene » the upper chamber so it can consider measures to approve FEMA funding in the wake of Hurricane Helene’s devastation, Sen. Rick Scott said in a statement today. »While I know from my experience with previous hurricanes that FEMA and SBA damage assessments take time, I am today urging Majority Leader Chuck Schumer to immediately reconvene the U.S. Senate when those assessments are completed so that we can pass the clean supplemental disaster funding bill and other disaster relief legislation, like my Federal Disaster Tax Relief Act, needed to ensure the full recovery of families in all impacted communities, » said the Florida Republican.

On Saturday night, following Sen. Scott and Sen. Marco Rubio’s letter to President Joe Biden urging his immediate approval of a Major Disaster Declaration for the State of Florida, President Biden approved the request. This Major Disaster Declaration approval follows last week’s approval of the State of Florida’s request for a pre-landfall emergency declaration for potentially impacted Florida counties at the request of Senators Scott and Rubio. The interim spending bill approved last week to avoid a government shutdown « anticipated » the possibility of Hurricane Helene ravaging parts of the U.S. So that’s why lawmakers made sure that FEMA could spend down its current reserves more quickly to respond to immediate needs after the storm. Moreover, a senior House Republican source told Fox that « this is why it would have been a bad idea to shut down the government. »BIDEN GETS DEFENSIVE WHEN PUSHED ON WHO’S COMMANDING’ HURRICANE HELENE RESPONSEBut earlier today, ahead of Scott’s statement, a senior congressional source familiar with the purse strings conceded that « it would not surprise me » if lawmakers were recalled to Washington to approve additional money to respond to immediate needs because the devastation has been so bad. » »I’m not adverse to that, » said one senior House Republican. « And I would not agree with those who say we’re not coming back. »That said, another senior House Republican told Fox, « We will definitely need to appropriate emergency funds. Western North Carolina is like New Orleans during Katrina. » But the source cautioned that it was doubtful Congress would have to act in the next month. That’s different compared to Congress coming back into an emergency session just days after Hurricane Katrina ravaged the Gulf Coast in 2006.One thing to watch in the coming days is whether or not FEMA has enough money in the near-term to respond to the catastrophic impact of Helene.Congress left town without providing enough disaster relief to address « older » natural disasters. In particular, there has been a push to provide more money to address Hurricane Beryl which hit Texas in July. There are also issues responding to tornadoes in Iowa. And there is a longstanding issue with providing enough money to Hawaii after wildfires charred Maui last year. Some lawmakers wanted the additional disaster aid loaded onto the interim spending bill that Congress approved last week to keep the government open — and then left town through mid-November.However, the temporary spending bill did give FEMA authority to draw down the Disaster Relief Fund (DRF) more rapidly. The question is whether the DRF bottoms out after Helene. Or, certainly if there are impacts from other potential storms that may soon churn in the Gulf of Mexico. Fox is told a combination of another storm — coupled with addressing needs following Helene — could bleed the coffers at FEMA.RESCUE MISSIONS UNDERWAY IN NORTH CAROLINA AFTER HURRICANE HELENE BRINGS ‘HISOTIRC’ FLOODING, LANDSLIDESThat said, one source familiar with congressional spending indicated that despite the near-apocalyptic nature of Helene, we just don’t know enough yet about the needs. A better sense of things could come later this week.So what happens if FEMA’s Disaster Relief Fund dwindles too much?Congress could be recalled to re-load the fund. That happened in the late summer of 2005 following Hurricane Katrina. Congress was out of session during the customary August recess — which often stretches a few days into early September. Several days after Katrina hit, it was clear that the impacts would drain FEMA’s funds quickly. In a dramatic midnight session, then-Senate Majority Leader Bill Frist (R-TN) recalled the Senate and a skeleton crew to approve the additional aid. The House shortly followed suit.

Sean « Diddy » Combs is confident he’s an innocent man nearly two weeks after he was indicted on multiple sex crimes charges. The disgraced music mogul, 54, was recently taken « off suicide watch » at Brooklyn’s Metropolitan Detention Center while awaiting trial for allegedly running a criminal enterprise through his multiple business entities, a source with knowledge of the situation told Fox News Digital. When asked if his client would possibly take a plea deal, criminal attorney, Marc Agnifilo, said in TMZ’s « The Downfall of Diddy: The Indictment, » « It’s not up to me. It’s up to Mr. Combs, and I don’t see it happening because he believes he’s innocent. »SEAN ‘DIDDY’ COMBS IS ‘OFF SUICIDE WATCH,’ RECEIVES FAMILY VISIT IN JAIL »And what’s more, he believes that he needs to stand up not just for himself — for his family and for everybody who’s been targeted by the federal government. »Diddy was arrested on Monday, Sept. 16, and charged the following day with racketeering conspiracy, sex trafficking by force, fraud or coercion, and transportation to engage in prostitution. The rapper entered a not guilty plea hours after an indictment detailing his alleged sex crimes was unsealed.PLAYBOY MODEL APOLOGIZES FOR DIDDY PARTY COMMENTS: ‘I PRAY FOR THE VICTIMS AND JUSTICE’If found guilty, he faces a minimum of 15 years behind bars or a maximum sentence of life in prison.TMZ PRESENTS: THE DOWNFALL OF DIDDY »He feels an obligation to those people to say, ‘You know what, maybe I can break the model. Maybe I can show the world that a Black man can win in federal court,' » Agnifilo said. « And I think he probably is the only person I know of who might be able to actually accomplish that goal. »The « I’ll Be Missing You » singer was denied bail twice, even after offering a $50 million bail proposal package, which included GPS monitoring at his home on Miami’s Star Island. Diddy’s team attempted to show the judge he was not a flight risk through his communications with the U.S. Attorney’s Office during the ongoing investigation.WATCH ON FOX NATION: WHAT DIDDY DO?U.S. District Court Judge Andrew Carter cited the possibility that Diddy would tamper with witnesses in his reasoning for denying bail. The judge conceded the prosecution had proven « by clear and convincing evidence that there is no condition or set of conditions » to secure community safety.Assistant U.S. Attorney Emily Johnson pointed to Diddy’s long history of intimidating his accusers and the witnesses of his alleged abuse. Johnson claimed text messages showed Combs forced his victims into participating in sexual encounters he referred to as « freak offs. » The rapper allegedly recorded the sex acts and then used the videos as leverage for their silence.LIKE WHAT YOU’RE READING? Chiefs’ Patrick Mahomes reacts to brutal Rashee Rice injury: ‘I knew it wasn’t good’

[ad_1]

The Kansas City Chiefs’ offense suffered a huge blow on Sunday when Patrick Mahomes collided with Rashee Rice and the wide receiver was forced to leave the game.Rice was diagnosed with a right knee injury with the team reportedly fearing he could have torn his ACL. He was on the receiving end from a Mahomes shoulder as he tried to tackle Los Angeles Chargers cornerback Kristian Fulton following an interception.CLICK HERE FOR MORE SPORTS COVERAGE ON FOXNEWS.COM »Obviously, the corner made a good play. I was trying to fire it to (Travis Kelce) on his body, » Mahomes said. « I overthrew him a little bit, turned the ball over, and then I thought Rashee really made a good play. I was trying to tackle the guy and obviously rolled up on him. If I just don’t turn the ball over, that never happens. So, you’ve just got to try to get better at that. »I didn’t know exactly what happened because, obviously, I was trying to make a tackle, but I know Rashee and how tough he is. All we do is pray that the X-rays and MRIs and stuff like that are better than what it looked, but I mean next man up until he’s back. »Rice gingerly walked back to the bench before he was taken off the field on a cart. »I feel terrible for Rashee, » Chiefs coach Andy Reid said. « …We will hope for the best. »BUCS’ BAKER MAYFIELD DOWNPLAYS TOM BRADY REMARKS, SAYS WORDS WERE TAKEN ‘OUT OF CONTEXT’This would be a massive loss for the Chiefs, who are already without Hollywood Brown this season after he suffered a season-ending injury before even taking a snap with his new team.Kansas City is also without star running back Isiah Pacheco for weeks after he suffered a fractured fibula against the Cincinnati Bengals in Week 2.Rice’s return to an NFL field is also murky because of off-the-field problems. FLASHBACK: Walz doubled down on support for government-run health care during gubernatorial campaign

[ad_1]

Minnesota’s Democratic Gov. Tim Walz, who is currently running to be the next vice president of the United States, once said in a gubernatorial debate that he supports « single-payer health care, » also known as « Medicare-for-all. » »I think that’s probably the path where we end up, » Walz said in a 2018 debate while running for governor when asked, « Are you for single-payer? » »And I say that because, be very clear about this, there were no protections for preexisting conditions before the ACA, » Walz continued. « A vote for the ACA was the first time in this nation’s history we had those protections and making sure people have that protection, making sure they were covered, and then making sure we were focused on preventative care, people were finally getting that under the ACA, we started to see health outcomes improve and that’s the real key to driving down insurance premium prices. »Walz went on to say « let’s be very clear » that there is « no market in health care. »MINNESOTA GOP LEADER SOUNDS ALARM ON WALZ TRYING TO ‘BAMBOOZLE’ RURAL VOTERS: ‘BERNIE SANDERS IN FLANNEL' »Because markets by nature would be a failure if someone didn’t have it, there’s not going to be, you cannot simply shrink a pool to the sickest people and say that’s where we are going to manage them when they’re in crisis. That’s not the way to go about this. The way to go about this is making sure everybody has that preventative care, making sure everybody has that access on the front end, you start to drive down prices. The ACA did that. »Walz’s opponent, Republican Jeff Johnson, then pressed Walz on the issue. »I’m not sure what your answer was. Do you support single-payer health care? » »Yes, » Walz said. « That was the answer I just gave you. »WALZ BLASTED FOR HUDDLING WITH GEORGE SOROS’ SON AT NYC LUXURY APARTMENT: ‘BILLIONAIRE NEPO BABY’Johnson interjected, « Are you for it? » »Yes, » Walz said. « I’m going to push for not paying twice as much as any other industrialized nation. Getting half for it. I’m making sure that the 14 top nations that get the best returns at the least cost make sure you cut out that piece that is simply payer getting between people and their doctors. »When Johnson countered that « single-payer » means « everybody loses their insurance » and « forced on to one government plan, » Walz countered, « We can do better. »The comments from Walz come under the backdrop of Vice President Kamala Harris supporting « Medicare-for-all » when she ran for president in 2019. However, in August, her campaign claimed she will not push the subject of single-payer or « Medicare-for-all » during the campaign. In 2019, Fox News spoke to Harris in the hallways of Capitol Hill, asking about her plans for providing health care. »How important is it to your health care plan to get rid of private insurance companies? Because there is some confusion about that, » Peter Doocy asked Harris on Jan. 30, 2019. »I’m glad you asked. Yeah. So, the bottom line and the most important is that everyone have access to health care, » Harris said. « That is the goal.
