Sen. Tammy Baldwin, D-Wis., successfully won re-election in Wisconsin all while President-elect Donald Trump simultaneously flipped the state back to red in the presidential election. As to how she did it, the Democrat attributes much of her win to her « 72-county strategy. » Baldwin made sure during her campaign to traverse the entire state, venturing far from the two large blue enclaves of Milwaukee and Dane counties. « I think showing up matters, listening matters, » she said in an interview with Fox News Digital. « And so I go, and I really listen and get to know the challenges and aspirations of people all over the state, rural areas, suburban areas, urban areas. »Baldwin won by a few tens of thousands of votes in the state, clinching victory by roughly the same margin as Trump. RFK JR’S ABORTION ‘ISSUE’: SENATE GOP PLANS TO SCRUTINIZE TRUMP HHS PICK’S POSITIONAccording to her campaign, she did more than 250 events in Wisconsin in 2024 alone. She also hosted several targeted tours during her campaign, including her Dairyland Tour and her Rural Leaders for Tammy Tour.Further, Baldwin’s campaign microtargeted rural communities to deliver content regarding her agricultural work. But her rigorous travel is not the only thing that sealed the deal for her. The senator acknowledged that people can go everywhere, but they also need to effectively engage voters in each place they travel to. One thing she noted is that she’s « had years to earn the trust of Wisconsin voters, » referencing the short few months that the campaign of Vice President Kamala Harris had to turn out voters for her in the state. Baldwin also said she convenes roundtables and forums on relevant issues while she travels in Wisconsin. »So I’ve done that on, say, the fentanyl and opioid epidemic, bringing together first responders, public health officials, concerned community members to talk about what does the epidemic look like in this community, in this area of the state? What resources do you need? What are your biggest worries? »INCOMING SENATE DEM ELISSA SLOTKIN TORCHES IDENTITY POLITICS IN 2024 AUTOPSY: ‘GO THE WAY OF THE DODO’She also held events geared toward agricultural issues, she noted. Baldwin notably credits, in part, her work on agricultural issues with her re-election win. In early October, Baldwin earned the endorsement of the Wisconsin Farm Bureau Federation Board of Directors, which was a significant achievement for a Democrat in a statewide election. « They cited a number of different measures that I either championed or actually got into law, » she said. The senator pointed to her Dairy Business Innovation Act, which provides small grants to various dairy producers and processors. « I went this past spring to a particular farm that had received one of these grants, and they had also invited several other farmers and processors who had received grants to show me what they were able to do with these grants in order to grow their business and improve their bottom line, » she said.RICK SCOTT OUTLINES CONSENSUS FOR ‘DRAMATIC CHANGE’ TO SENATE OPERATION IN POST-MCCONNELL ERAThe Wisconsin Democrat also pointed to the large manufacturing sector in her state and attributed her push for « buy America » rules in pieces of legislation as helping her win some of those voters. On whether her campaign is a model for other Democrats, specifically those in swing states, she said, « I think it is something that would be helpful to many public officials. »Baldwin added that she realized the need to travel Wisconsin to this extent during her first Senate campaign: « I had been in the House of Representatives representing, as you know, seven counties in [the] south-central part of the state. A Texas anesthesiologist convicted of injecting heart-stopping poison into patients’ IV bags has been sentenced to 190 years in prison.Raynaldo Riviera Ortiz, Jr., 60, once dubbed a « medical terrorist, » was found guilty on four counts of tampering with consumer products resulting in serious bodily injury, one count of tampering with a consumer product and five counts of intentional adulteration of a drug after an eight-day trial in April of last year.Sentencing was handed down by Chief U.S. District Judge David Godbey, who ruled Ortiz’s actions equivalent to attempted murder and U.S. Attorney Leigha Simonton seemingly agreed. »This disgraced doctor acted no better than an armed assailant spraying bullets indiscriminately into a crowd. She was « my life » and « the strongest woman » he’d ever met, he said.During the sentencing, families and patients spoke about the « life-altering » pain they had endured at the hands of Ortiz. A son of one victim said that because of what happened, his 10-year-old son did not trust doctors anymore because « a doctor tried to kill Pops. »Another victim said after the cardiac incident he woke up feeling « all chewed up » and has not been the same since.   Ortiz waived his rights and was not present to hear the sentence or the statements from his victims.

A Minnesota election judge is being charged after allegedly accepting people who were not properly registered to vote in the 2024 election.Timothy Michael Scouton, who served as the head election judge for the Badoura Township Precinct in Hubbard County, Minnesota, is being charged with one count of accepting the vote of an unregistered voter and one count of neglect of duty by an election official, both felonies, according to a report from Fox 9.Police say they were notified by an election auditor that 11 voters did not complete proper registration forms, yet were allowed to vote despite not being able to complete the forms that are used to authenticate their identity.VOTER REGISTRATION FRAUD PROBE INVOLVING 2500 APPLICATIONS CONFIRMED BY PA. ELECTION OFFICIALSThose votes were allowed despite Scouton reportedly completing his election judge training and head election judge training in July, the report notes.Authorities spoke with another judge who worked with Scouton on the night of the election, with the judge telling police that Scouton instructed her not to use the proper registration forms. According to exit polls by The Washington Post, 56 percent of Catholics voted for Trump, compared to 41 percent for Kamala Harris. Catholics make up the largest religious denomination in the United States, composed of approximately 52 million people. Consider that in Pennsylvania, 24% of adults are Catholic. The percentage of Catholic adults in Wisconsin and Michigan are 25% and 18% respectively. At least, that’s the story according to witnesses.For her, sainthood would take nearly 500 years, coming in 1920 when she was canonized as the patron saint of soldiers by the very church that had condemned her to death.

The exclusive screening featured a panel discussion hosted by Scorsese himself. »I didn’t believe it could be done, » Scorsese told the live audience, explaining that the project had initially been conceived of seven years ago — though he’s « always » wanted to make this. »I grew up practically living in the St. Patrick’s Old Cathedral downtown, contemplating, meditating those statues of the saints, different saints, and wondering about their stories, » Scorsese explained. « What is a saint? Is it something superhuman? Can they achieve something easier than we can because we’re human beings? I realized, ‘No,’ » he added. « The point is they’re human. »

Scorsese, who won the Academy Award for Best Director for his 2006 masterpiece, « The Departed, » is no stranger to having explored the topic of faith with such works as « Silence » and « The Last Temptation of Christ » — the latter of which he joked was « banned by everyone. » The filmmaker said he was especially compelled to bring history’s boldest saints to life because they each begged the question: « How can people live a life of compassion and love? »Another saint who embodied such compassion and love was Polish friar Maxmilian Kolbe, whose episode was also screened at the Whitby on Thursday.

His is a more modern tale that takes viewers back to 1940s Europe, where, in the midst of the Second World War and the Holocaust, Kolbe makes the ultimate sacrifice at Auschwitz, volunteering to die in place of a stranger who had a family… and meeting a brutal end.

Kolbe, who was believed by some to share antisemitic stereotypes at the height of the war, was « converted by humanity » when, as the film shows, he died next to a Jewish prisoner after suffering torturous conditions — a man whom, in his final gesture, he called his « brother. »The patron saint of prisoners — and journalists — would be canonized in 1982. A 20-year-old male model has been charged in the stabbing death of a man in New York City, prosecutors said Saturday.On late Friday, 20-year-old Dynus Saxon was arraigned and charged in the Nov. 10 killing of 35-year-old Kadeem Grant. He has been charged with second degree murder, first degree manslaughter, and fourth degree criminal possession of a weapon.The New York City Police Department (NYPD) previously confirmed to Fox News Digital that they found the 35-year-old victim stabbed in his chest in a Mott Haven apartment building. »[P]olice responded to a 911 call of a male stabbed inside of 384 Grand Concourse, within the confines of the 40 Precinct, » the NYPD’s statement said. « Upon arrival, officers observed a 35-year-old male with a stab wound to the chest. Online e-cigarette and vape retailers are under fire for not complying with sales restrictions.Regulations are in place to help prevent the sale of vape products to minors, including age verification, shipping methods and flavor restrictions.Researchers at the Herbert Wertheim School of Public Health and Human Longevity Science at University of California San Diego put those regulations to the test.SMOKING AND VAPING CAN HAVE THESE DETRIMENTAL EFFECTS ON FERTILITY, DOCTORS WARNThe study, published in JAMA last week, suggested that some retailers are not following these guidelines.Researchers asked 16 people to purchase flavored vapes online and have them delivered to their homes in San Diego County.Out of the 156 attempted transactions, 73% were processed and 67% of orders were delivered.Sales restrictions on flavored tobacco have been enacted in eight U.S. states and 392 cities or counties as of March 21, 2024, according to UC San Diego.Some restrictions on online transactions are « ambiguous, » they stated, including in states like California.Eight of the buyers in the study were from the city of San Diego, where there is an ordinance that restricts the sale of flavored tobacco products, as stated in a press release.The purchases made in the study violated flavor restrictions as well as the Preventing Online Sales of E-Cigarettes to Children Act.The act is a « federal law that prohibits the use of the United States Postal Service (USPS) to ship vaping products [and] requires both age verification and scanning identification upon delivery, » UC San Diego stated.The research revealed that only 1% of buyers had their IDs scanned and 81% of deliveries were made via USPS.MERCEDES OWNER GOES VIRAL USING VAPE TO TEST VEHICLE’S HIGH-TECH AIR FILTERThere was no interaction reported with delivery personnel for 78% of buyers, while 15% did speak with delivery personnel but did not have their IDs checked.Eric Leas, Ph.D., lead study author and assistant professor at the Herbert Wertheim School of Public Health and Human Longevity Science, discussed the findings in a conversation with Fox News Digital. »The results suggest that it is incredibly easy to buy flavored vaping products online, even in areas where they are restricted, » he said. « They also suggest that, for the most part, retailers disregard federal and state laws pertaining to shipping requirements and age verification. »HOW TO QUIT VAPING AS THE E-CIGARETTE FAD FIRES UP: 6 SMART STEPS TO TAKELeas warned that this is « especially an issue for efforts to limit youth vaping. »To prevent these sales from slipping through the cracks, Leas suggested conducting routine checks to « monitor and enforce compliance among online retailers. »Online e-cigarette sales are the « largest and fastest-growing sector of the tobacco [industry], » Leas noted in a press release.This is according to Leas’ 2023 study published in Tobacco Control, which found that online shopping queries for cigarettes were 194% higher than expected, and were 162% higher than expected for vape products.CLICK HERE TO SIGN UP FOR OUR HEALTH NEWSLETTER »We need to evaluate tobacco retail policies and ensure they cover eCommerce, and monitor the market to improve implementation, » he said.In response to the Tobacco Control study, California lawmakers recently approved law SB-1230 to strengthen state tobacco oversight programs. That law is expected to go into effect on Jan. 1, 2025, the release stated.Micah Berman, an attorney who is a member of the Cancer Control Research Program at The Ohio State University Comprehensive Cancer Center, told Fox News Digital that « this is not a new issue. » »The Tobacco Control Act required the FDA to issue a regulation to address remote sales (including online sales) within 18 months of the law’s enactment, » he said. For more Health articles, visit www.foxnews.com/health »Nearly 14 years after that deadline passed, the FDA still has never issued such a rule. »This study suggests that communities nationwide are having their local laws « undermined by easy access to online e-cigarettes and other tobacco products, » Berman added. »It’s simply not feasible for local governments to regulate online sales, » he said. « To make progress on this issue, the FDA must fulfill its obligation to issue regulations, and it must be more aggressive in its efforts to block illegal online sales. »The U.S. Food & Drug Administration (FDA) confirmed to Fox News Digital that the agency is reviewing the findings of the study.Fox News Digital reached out to several online vape sellers requesting comment.
