Chargers stave off Bengals’ comeback in epic Sunday night thriller

[ad_1]

What looked to be a Los Angeles Chargers beatdown on the Cincinnati Bengals at SoFi Stadium on « Sunday Night Football » turned into a thriller in the second half. But the Chargers were able to take down the Bengals, 34-27, behind J.K. Dobbins’ 29-yard touchdown, his second of the game. The game was deadlocked at 27 apiece when Justin Herbert got the ball with just 45 seconds left to play, and he found Ladd McConkey on two amazing passes for a total 55 yards to get into Bengals territory. CLICK HERE FOR MORE SPORTS COVERAGE ON FOXNEWS.COMIt seemed like the Chargers would just run it out for a game-winning field goal, but Dobbins found space and exploited it for the score. With just seconds left to play, Joe Burrow, who battled back in the second half to make this a game, heaved a Hail Mary to Tee Higgins, but Derwin James swatted it away for the win.It was the Bengals who got on the board first in this game with a field goal, but it was truly all Chargers in the first half as Herbert got rolling quickly. 2025 NFL MOCK DRAFT: TRAVIS HUNTER, SHEDEUR SANDERS HAVE BUFFS SITTING PRETTYOn the team’s second drive of the game, he needed just five plays to go 70 yards as he threw an absolute dime to tight end Will Dissly down the seam for a 29-yard touchdown to make it a 7-3 game after the extra point. After another red zone trip for Cincinnati ended with a field goal, Herbert wowed the Chargers faithful with an off-balance dot to Quentin Johnston in the end zone for a 26-yard score. That came after finding Johnston for 22 yards and Dissly for 20 earlier in the drive. With the Bengals going three-and-out, head coach Jim Harbaugh decided to look for the early kill shot in this game, as he went for it on fourth-and-goal from the Bengals’ one-yard line and J.K. Dobbins found the end zone to go up 21-6. A Cameron Dicker chip shot field goal gave Los Angeles a 24-6 lead at halftime, and the Bengals looked completely dejected. But we saw their fight in the second half, as they knew this was a must-win game to keep their playoff hopes in a good spot. Bengals head coach Zac Taylor said at halftime his team needed to find the end zone when they got down in Chargers territory, and that’s exactly what they got on fourth-and-goal when Ja’Marr Chase finally got man coverage and Burrow slung a perfect slant ball to him for the score. It brought the Bengals within two touchdowns with more than enough time to get back into the game, as long as the defense could get stops. And that’s exactly what happened, starting with a three-and-out that Burrow used to his advantage. On another fourth-down play, Burrow got the look he wanted when Tee Higgins, returning to the fold after missing some time with injury, ran through his defenders and sprung open for a 42-yard touchdown. Just like that, the Bengals were back in this game. Herbert and the Chargers needed to respond, as momentum was clearly shifting in this one. But on a rush play after scrambling out of the pocket, Herbert fumbled and it was scooped up by the Bengals. It was the first turnover of the game for either team, and once again, Burrow knew just what to do with it. In almost backyard football fashion, Burrow directed Chase midway through a play and his star receiver obliged, turning to his left in the end zone and Burrow put it on him for a 17-yard score, Chase’s second of the game. But Burrow couldn’t find the right plays to give his team the edge in the win, which has been a head-scratcher all season long for this Bengals squad. Follow Fox News Digital’s sports coverage on X, and subscribe to the Fox News Sports Huddle newsletter.

Gaetz-gate: Navigating the President-elect’s most baffling Cabinet pick

[ad_1]

Former Rep. Matt Gaetz, R-Fla., may be done with Congress. But Congress is not done with him. And as President-elect Trump’s pick to serve as Attorney General, Gaetz is apparently not done with Congress, either.Gaetz negotiated with Mr. Trump to become Attorney General on a flight to Florida – just hours after the incoming President spoke to House Republicans in Washington last week. Mr. Trump then made Gaetz his pick and the Florida Republican resigned. What wasn’t known at the time was that the House Ethics Committee was on the precipice of releasing a report investigating allegations of « sexual misconduct » and « illicit drug use » by Gaetz. Gaetz stopped cooperating with the House investigation over the summer. The FBI probed Gaetz for years – but dropped its inquiry in February. The Ethics Committee dashed a planned meeting where it likely would have published information about its inquest regarding Gaetz on Friday. But since Gaetz is no longer a Member of Congress, the committee supposedly is powerless to act.THE HITCHHIKER’S GUIDE TO POTENTIALLY RELEASING THE ETHICS COMMITTEE REPORT ON GAETZHouse Ethics Committee Chairman Michael Guest, R-Miss., said the following on Wednesday when asked about the Gaetz probe – but before the Florida Republican resigned. »Once the investigation is complete, then a report will be issued – assuming that at that time, that Mr. Gaetz is still a Member of Congress. If Mr. Gaetz were to resign because he is taking a position with the administration as the Attorney General then the Ethics Committee loses jurisdiction at that point. Once we lose jurisdiction, there would not be a report that would be issued. That’s not unique to this case, » said Guest.Other Ethics Committee members tried to sidestep discussion of Gaetz. »I’m not making any comments on that. I’m on the Ethics Committee so I’m staying clear of that, » said Rep. John Rutherford, R-Fla. »Can you still release the report? » asked Rachel Scott of ABC. »Nope. Sure can’t, » replied Rutherford, turning toward Scott.A NARROW MARGIN: TRUMP TAPS HOUSE REPUBLICANS FOR HIS SECOND ADMINISTRATIONThat is generally how the House Ethics Committee rolls when it comes to outstanding investigations involving former Members. But it is not a hard and fast rule.Fox has found that the Ethics Committee released the information on its probe into potential influence peddling by the late Rep. John Murtha, D-Penn., after his death in 2010.The Ethics Committee also released a 699-page report on former Rep. Bill Boner, D-Tenn., after he left office in 1987. The committee found that Boner used campaign funds to travel to Hong Kong and may have used his office to influence a defense contractor. The Ethics Committee investigated former Rep. Mark Foley, R-Fla., after he was caught sending inappropriate messages to House pages in 2006. Foley abruptly resigned from the House. But the ethics panel hauled in a host of bipartisan Congressional leaders for closed door depositions to determine what they may have known about Foley’s activities. That said, there is a way on the floor to dislodge an Ethics Committee report.WHAT HAPPENS TO THE GAETZ HOUSE ETHICS REPORT?There is a mechanism called « question of privileges of the House. » A lawmaker could take the floor under this procedure, making the argument that keeping the Gaetz ethics report under wraps impugns the dignity and integrity of the House. The House would be required to vote on such a motion. If successful on the floor, the ethics panel could be compelled to release the report.Yours truly asked House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries, D-N.Y., if Democrats might try to dislodge the Gaetz report from the Ethics Committee.Pergram: « Could you envision a scenario where Democrats try to somehow dislodge this ethics report through a parliamentary maneuver? »Jeffries: « The Ethics Committee is an incredibly bipartisan committee. It’s the only committee in the Congress that is evenly divided. And it has a long history of having principled individuals on it. And I defer at this moment to whatever course they decide to take. And I hope they take a course that is bipartisan. »The Senate Judiciary Committee will study the credentials of Gaetz, run background checks and ultimately hold a confirmation hearing before voting the nomination to the floor for a vote. It could also block the nomination as well.Senate Majority Whip and Judiciary Committee Chairman Dick Durbin, D-Ill., formally asked the House Ethics Committee to send over the report as it reviews the fitness of Gaetz for the job.MATT GAETZ’S NOMINATION ROCKS CAPITOL HILL »The sequence and timing of Mr. Gaetz’s resignation from the House raises serious questions about the contents of the House Ethics Committee report, » said Durbin. « This information could be relevant to the question of Mr. Gaetz’s confirmation as the next Attorney General of the United States and our Constitutional responsibility to advise and consent. »Democrats weren’t the only ones trying to pry loose the report. »I think there should not be any limitation on the Senate Judiciary Committee’s investigation, including, whatever the House Ethics Committee generated, » said Sen. John Cornyn, R-Texas.Rep. Glenn Ivey, D-Md., serves on the Ethics Committee. He hinted that the panel should consider dispatching the report to the Senate. »I think the Senate certainly had a right to request it. I can’t talk about our internal deliberations. But the information that they’ve requested, I think it’s totally reasonable, » said Ivey. « In fact, I think it’s essential for them to get that kind of information before they make a decision. »On Friday, Johnson noted that he « doesn’t control the Ethics Committee. »THE HITCHHIKER’S GUIDE TO THE MEANING OF A REPUBLICAN SENATE – AND WHAT’S AHEAD FOR THE HOUSEBut Johnson went further than he had before about his views on releasing the report. »We should stick to the tradition of not releasing a report on a former Member of the House because it would open a dangerous Pandora’s box, » said Johnson.Johnson reaffirmed that during an appearance on Fox News Sunday when asked about releasing the report. »I think this would be a breach of protocol that could be dangerous for us going forward in the future, » said the Speaker. It’s possible the Senate Judiciary Committee could subpoena the report from the Ethics Committee. And as suggested earlier, there is a way to dislodge the report from the panel via a vote on the House floor. Such a scenario would put a lot of Republicans in a tough spot. They may fear that voting to release the report could put them on the wrong side of incoming President Trump. That’s to say nothing of the prospective Attorney General. But Gaetz isn’t liked by his former House colleagues. In fact, some Republicans may have more disdain for the former Florida Congressman than Democrats. That’s partly because it was Gaetz who single-handedly triggered a vote last year to remove former House Speaker Kevin McCarthy, R-Calif. That maneuver pitched the House into three weeks of chaos.Gaetz is no longer a Member of the House. But that doesn’t matter. The fight over the ethics report is just getting started. And that’s spurring just as much pandemonium as if Gaetz were still a Member.

Coast Guard detains more than 20 migrants on boat off California coast

[ad_1]

Newport Beach, California, Mayor Will O’Neill is blasting state lawmakers after the Coast Guard apprehended 21 migrants who were on a boat nearly a mile off the coast on Thursday.FOX 11 in Los Angeles reported that 18 of the migrants who were detained were from Mexico, while two were from Uzbekistan and one was from Russia. »There’s no way you intend on trying to protect Uzbeki nationals coming in from our southern border, » O’Neill said, directing his comments to California lawmakers. « Get your act together, figure this out, because we’re having real problems affecting real people in your cities all across California. You cannot continue to treat every city in California like a border city. You cannot put us in this position. We have real problems, and we need you to fix them now. »On Thursday night, Coast Guard crews apprehended the 21 individuals about a mile from shore in Newport Beach after noticing suspicious activity from the boat they were on.‘FEARMONGERING’: CHINESE MIGRANT SURGE HEARING DISMISSED BY HOUSE DEMS DESPITE NATIONAL SECURITY CONCERNS « We come across boats on a regular basis, » Coast Guard Chief Petty Officer Levi Read told the station. « Not all the time do they have that many people on it, though. »O’Neill said his concern is that when people are coming into the U.S. through the southern border, especially from Uzbekistan, « something is broken. » »Every city in California now is essentially a border city thanks to SB 54, » he told FOX 11. « We’re told our local authorities are prohibited from working with federal authorities from stopping people like this. »CALIFORNIA ANGEL MOM, GOP LAWMAKER PUTTING DEMOCRATS ‘ON DEFENSE’ FOR SANCTUARY POLICIES: ‘HAVE THEM EXPLAIN’Also known as the « California Values Act, » SB 54 is sometimes referred to as a « sanctuary state » law.The law was implemented in 2018 and effectively legalized noncooperation between state law enforcement agencies and federal immigration officials.FOX 11 reported another incident involving illegal immigrants in Newport Harbor in May. Jen Psaki says Democrats are lost in the ‘wilderness’ without a ‘clear leader’ after Trump’s victory

[ad_1]

MSNBC host Jen Psaki said the Democratic Party is lost in the « wilderness » and without a leader after Kamala Harris’ stunning defeat to President-elect Donald Trump. In an interview on NBC’s « Meet the Press » Sunday, Psaki was asked how Democrats regain their footing and begin to « chart their path forward » after losing the White House, Senate and House of Representatives. « Look, I think Democrats are in the wilderness, as you just said before, there is no clear leader of the party. Joe Biden is going to be out of office shortly. Kamala Harris just lost the election. There are a lot of governors and other people who might emerge maybe that we don’t know about yet, but there is no clear leader of the party right now, » she said.JEN PSAKI HITS BACK AT LEFT’S RACIST BLAME GAME FOR HARRIS’ LOSS: ‘THAT’S NOT HOW DEMOCRACY WORKS’The former White House press secretary said Harris’ loss offers an opportunity for emerging Democratic leaders to « seize the mantle » and take charge of a party still reeling from a series of devastating election defeats. »That, to me is an opportunity because people have to decide. Nobody’s given it, right. You seize the mantle, or you don’t, » Psaki said. « Are you going to be the person who decides who’s the right person to stand up against Trump? Or are you going to be the person who brings the country together? Are you going to be the person who talks about the economy and in ways that people understand? There are lots of ways to do it. I don’t know who’s going to emerge, but that’s the moment we’re in right now. »PSAKI ADMITS DEMS MADE A MISTAKE BY TRYING TO REACH NEVER-TRUMP VOTERS AND IGNORING DISAFFECTED DEMOCRATSDemocrats continue to point fingers and play the blame game in their post-election analysis of why Harris lost. In a recent appearance on MSNBC, Psaki blamed the party for over-relying on « never-Trump » Republicans, arguing that they should’ve made more of an effort to reach disaffected Democratic voters. She also blamed Democrats for a « huge misread » on how important the abortion issue was to millions of Americans in the country who ended up voting for Trump and urged her party to be « sober about » the reality that many voters who traditionally supported Democrats didn’t turn out to support Harris on Election Day.

Trump taps FCC member Brendan Carr to lead agency: ‘Warrior for Free Speech’

[ad_1]

President-elect Trump announced on Sunday that he has picked Brendan Carr to serve as Chairman of the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) starting in January.Carr, who is currently the senior Republican member of the FCC, was first nominated to the commission by Trump in 2017. In a statement released on Sunday night, Trump commended Carr and noted that he had « been confirmed unanimously by the United States Senate three times. » »His current term runs through 2029 and, because of his great work, I will now be designating him as permanent Chairman, » Trump wrote. The Republican leader went on to call Carr « a warrior for Free Speech » who has « fought against the regulatory Lawfare that has stifled Americans’ Freedoms, and held back our Economy. »TRUMP APPOINTS TULSI GABBARD AS DIRECTOR OF NATIONAL INTELLIGENCE: ‘FEARLESS SPIRIT' »He will end the regulatory onslaught that has been crippling America’s Job Creators and Innovators, and ensure that the FCC delivers for rural America, » Trump added. »Congratulations to Chairman Brendan Carr on a job well done, » the president-elect’s statement concluded. « Lead us into a great future, Brendan! »In an X post on Sunday, Carr thanked Trump and wrote that he is « humbled and honored to serve as Chairman of the FCC. »Carr recently made national headlines after he ripped the « Saturday Night Live » cast for platforming Kamala Harris as a guest without inviting Trump, which violates FCC rules.HERE ARE THE MOST TALKED-ABOUT CANDIDATES FOR TOP POSTS IN TRUMP’S ADMINISTRATION »NBC has structured this in a way that’s plainly designed to evade the FCC’s rules, » the official said shortly after the episode aired. « We’re talking 50 hours before Election Day starts, without any notice to other candidates, as far as I can tell. »Carr later told Fox News Digital that the Harris appearance « [made] clear that [« SNL »] wanted to weigh-in in favor of one candidate before the election. » »That’s exactly why, for decades, we’ve had an equal time rule on the book, is to prevent that, » the Republican explained. « Because remember, broadcasters are placed in a special position of trust. They’re not just like any other person with a soapbox on the corner. They have a license from the federal government that obligates them to operate in the public interest. »Earlier in November, the Fraternal Order of Police (FOP) urged Trump to appoint Carr as the next FCC chairman, calling him a « great partner to the men and women in law enforcement. » »Commissioner Carr has more than 20 years of private and public sector expertise in communications and technology policy as well as a deep institutional knowledge of the FCC, » Patrick Yoes, national president of the FOP, wrote in a letter. « He would make an outstanding FCC Chairman who will ensure the United States continues to lead the world in telecommunications advancements and innovations. »Fox News Digital’s Emma Colton and Eric Revell contributed to this report.

Republican senator accuses Dems, media of double standard on outrage over Trump’s cabinet picks

[ad_1]

A Republican senator clashed with NBC anchor Kristen Welker in a Sunday interview after he pushed back against the scrutiny over President-elect Donald Trump’s cabinet nominations, compared to their treatment of President Biden’s more controversial staffing picks.Democrats in Congress and in the media have blasted Trump’s cabinet nominees over their qualifications, including combat veteran Pete Hegseth as secretary of defense; South Dakota Gov. Kristi Noem as secretary of homeland security; Rep. Matt Gaetz, R-Fla., as attorney general; and Robert F. Kennedy, Jr. as head of the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS), among others. On NBC’s « Meet the Press » on Sunday, Welker pressed Sen. Markwayne Mullin, a Republican from Oklahoma, if Kennedy’s skepticism toward vaccines could be a « deal breaker » in confirming the Trump nominee to head the HHS.Mullin denied this would be a dealbreaker for him before launching into a rebuke of Democrats and liberal voices in the media for not showing the same outrage over some of President Biden’s more controversial cabinet and staffing picks at the start of his term.DEMOCRATS’ FUROR OVER ‘UNQUALIFIED’ TRUMP NOMINEES PUTS BIDEN’S STAFFING DECISIONS BACK IN THE SPOTLIGHT »No. I absolutely — appreciate Bobby Kennedy taking hard look at the vaccine. There’s some questions that have to be made. And I appreciate some of the scrutiny that’s going on there. I think Bobby can answer all those and I have sat down and had long conversations with him and I actually find the guy extremely intelligent when it comes to this stuff, » he said. « And some of the stuff does raise a lot of questions. But I do got a question for you. The Democrats are spending so much time talking about the scrutiny of President Trump’s picks and yet, did we spend this amount of time scrutinizing Biden’s picks? » »I mean, we can talk about Rachel [Levine], the assistant secretary of HHS. I think that’s a pretty controversial pick, from whatever pronoun he or she decides to use, » Mullin continued.Mullin also raised concerns about Sam Brinton, the « nonbinary » former top Department of Energy official under Biden, who escaped jail time after being accused of stealing luggage from airports on three separate occasions. EMBATTLED FORMER BIDEN OFFICIAL ACCUSED IN MULTIPLE AIRPORT THEFTS ENDS 2023 FREE »I didn’t see this same type of scrutiny that the Democrats used on these individual picks. There’s been a lot of picks. I mean we can talk about Pete Buttigieg.
