Extent of potential withdrawal symptoms from antidepressants revealed by study

Antidepressants are meant to be taken for nine months for a first episode of depression and for a maximum of two years for those experiencing further episodes but increasingly more people are staying on them for longer.

Around one in six people who stop antidepressants will experience withdrawal symptoms as a direct result of the medicine.
