Les gens qui viennent, ils mangent les animaux de compagnie des habitants. » En relayant, lors de son débat du 10 septembre face à sa rivale démocrate Kamala Harris, une fake news particulièrement grotesque sur les immigrés haïtiens qui se nourriraient d’animaux domestiques dans cette commune de l’Ohio, Donald Trump a provoqué une polémique comme il en a le secret. Mais l’ex-président américain a aussi mis en lumière un tabou, censé distinguer notre civilisation d’autres cultures jugées barbares : la cynophagie, ou le fait de manger de la viande de chien. En Occident prédomine aujourd’hui l’idée que ceux qui mangent des animaux canins, devenus les plus proches amis de l’homme, ne peuvent être que des cannibales.Le Vietnam, la Chine ou l’Afrique tropicale n’ont pourtant pas le monopole de la cynophagie. Il fut un temps, pas si lointain, où mettre un chien dans la casserole n’avait rien de honteux en Europe. L’ironie, c’est que le pays dont est originaire le grand-père de Donald Trump, l’Allemagne, a longtemps manifesté un véritable « amour » pour la consommation de chiens, attendant les années 1980 pour officiellement prohiber la pratique. Jusqu’à cette époque, des bêtes y étaient abattues dans des abattoirs contrôlés par l’Etat. Comme le rappelle le magazine Der Spiegel, qui cite l’ouvrage historique de Rüdiger von Chamier intitulé Hunde essen, Hunde lieben, « ce n’est qu’en 1986 que la loi a interdit de tuer les canidés (chiens) et les félidés (chats) pour obtenir de la viande ».235 144 chiens abattus en Allemagne entre 1905 et 1940En Europe, la cynophagie a été particulièrement pratiquée en temps de crise. Au XIXe siècle, des scientifiques et autorités ont ainsi mis en avant les atouts protéinés et à bas coûts de la viande canine. « La nature et le goût de la viande de chien ne doivent pas donner lieu à un sentiment de dégoût. Elle peut être consommée sans inconvénient avéré en période de pénurie », déclarait par exemple en 1848 un vétérinaire nommé Höhning. Des boucheries canines se développent dans la deuxième moitié du XIXe siècle. Le kilo de viande de chien coûte alors près de trois fois moins cher que celui de bœuf ou de porc. En France aussi, ces boucheries connaissent un essor durant la guerre franco-prussienne de 1870. « Quelques-uns nous quittèrent/Devant une boucherie canine/Pour y acheter leur repas du soir », témoigne le poète Guillaume Apollinaire dans Alcools en 1913.A l’argument économique s’ajoute alors une croyance, répandue depuis des siècles, que la graisse de chien a des vertus curatives, notamment en cas de maladies des voies respiratoires. Selon une statistique officielle, 235 144 chiens sont abattus entre 1905 et 1940 en Allemagne, chiffre qui ne prend pas en compte les abattages clandestins. La consommation de viande de chien a particulièrement augmenté pendant la Première Guerre mondiale et la crise économique des années 1920. Amoureux des chiens, Hitler n’a rien fait pour empêcher cet abattage, se contentant d’introduire en 1933 l’obligation d’étourdissement pour les animaux de boucherie. Si le miracle économique allemand de l’après-guerre met un gros coup de frein à la consommation canine, ce n’est qu’en 1985 que le dernier abattoir de chiens, situé à Augsbourg, cesse son activité.Le « chien chaud » des immigrés allemandsAujourd’hui, manger du chien est devenu le tabou culturel absolu. Disparu en 2018, le prince Henrik de Danemark, époux de la reine Margrethe II, pourtant grand fan de teckels, avait fait scandale en avouant avoir mangé du chien, comparant son goût à celui du veau. Même le Parlement coréen vient, en début d’année, de voter à l’unanimité l’interdiction de la consommation de cette viande à partir de 2027, un tournant historique sous l’impulsion de la Premier dame Kim Keon-hee, ardente défenseuse du bien-être animal. Nommé « boshintang », le ragoût de chien était en Corée du Sud considéré comme un mets délicat, mais en perte de vitesse chez les jeunes générations. Pourtant, au cœur de l’Europe, en Suisse, la consommation de chien reste toujours autorisée à titre personnel et dans le cadre de l’usage privé. La pratique se perpétuerait discrètement dans des cantons ruraux. En 2014, une association de protection des animaux assurait qu’ »environ 3 % des Suisses » mangeraient encore « en cachette du chat ou du chien ». La viande de chien serait principalement utilisée pour faire des saucisses et de la graisse contre les rhumatismes.L’autre ironie historique de la sortie de Donald Trump, c’est qu’au moment même où son grand-père Frederick Trump (né Friedrich Trumpf) émigrait du Palatinat vers New York en 1885, ce n’étaient pas les Haïtiens, mais les immigrés allemands qui, aux Etats-Unis, étaient associés à la viande de chien. A la fin du XIXe siècle, les saucisses dites Frankfurter se popularisent dans le sillage de l’importante vague migratoire venue des ports de Hambourg ou Brême. Mais la rumeur selon laquelle la viande de chien serait utilisée dans sa conception lui vaut rapidement l’appellation de « dog ». En anglais, le terme « chien » comme synonyme de « saucisse » est ainsi utilisé depuis 1886.Selon la tradition, c’est un boulanger originaire de Hanovre, Charles Feltman, qui, le premier à Coney Island, a commencé à vendre des saucisses dans des petits pains allongés, pratiques pour ne pas se brûler les mains. Cet aliment bon marché se répand, notamment via les matchs de base-ball, autre fleuron de la culture américaine. Le « hot dog », ancêtre des fast-foods, est né. En 1913, la chambre de commerce de New York a beau interdire l’utilisation de ce nom à Coney Island pour éviter une mauvaise publicité, le « chien chaud » devient l’une des gloires de la « gastronomie » américaine. Jusqu’à figurer, en 1939, au menu officiel d’un pique-nique organisé à New York par le président Roosevelt pour le roi George VI, au plus grand bonheur du souverain anglais.

The man arrested at Trump International Golf Club in West Palm Beach, Florida, on Sunday afternoon prolifically posted on social media about world events and politics, and had at least 100 run-ins with police, public records show. Ryan Wesley Routh, 58, was arrested Sunday after allegedly pushing the muzzle of an AK-47 through the chainlink fence outside of where Trump was golfing. TRUMP SHOOTING: TIMELINE OF ASSASSINATION ATTEMPTThe New York Times published an article, « Stolen Valor: The U.S. Volunteers in Ukraine Who Lie, Waste and Bicker, » last year that also quoted a man named Ryan Routh, describing him as a former construction worker from North Carolina who traveled to Ukraine. Routh, the outlet reported, was seeking Afghan soldier recruits who fled the Taliban to fight in Ukraine. « Mr. Routh, who spent several months in Ukraine last year, said he planned to move them, in some cases illegally, from Pakistan and Iran to Ukraine. He said dozens had expressed interest, » the outlet reported. « We can probably purchase some passports through Pakistan, since it’s such a corrupt country, » he told the New York Times in an interview last year. A background check reviewed by Fox News Digital found that Ryan Wesley Routh from has had repeated run-ins with law enforcement spanning decades in North Carolina. A majority of the arrests included ones for simple possession, driving without a license, driving with an expired registration, driving without insurance. Routh had been pulled over by police during a traffic stop, but put his hand on a gun during the stop, sparking him to drive to United Roofing and barricade himself in the building, the outlet reported at the time. He was arrested without incident after the stand-off. He was charged with carrying a concealed weapon and possession of a weapon of mass destruction, resisting, delaying and obstructing a law enforcement officer and driving while license revoked. State records show he was sentenced to probation in the case. Background records show Ryan Routh is divorced, and moved to Hawaii from North Carolina around 2017. A LinkedIn profile appearing to belong to Routh details that he is now the owner and operator of a construction company called « Camp Box Honolulu, » which is described on the account as a company that builds « simple economical structures to help address the highest homelessness rate in the United States due to unparalleled gentrification. » « Having passed along any meager remnants of myself in North Carolina and relocated to Oahu, I currently build very simple housing structures for the less fortunate and pursue a wide range of other creative projects towards developing unique products and devices as well as community improvement projects. I am constantly looking for collaborative opportunities which yield the most public impact for the improvement of our society. I would tremendously enjoy the invitation to join any monumental worthy cause to bring about real change in our world. I am certainly free to relocate to any remote location on the planet that might render the most positive impact, or right around the corner creating something unique and magical, » the LinkedIn page stated. His previous company, United Roofing, earned one star reviews on Yelp, including a review in 2016 that said: « As a military member trying to buy a home before returning from a deployment the proprietor, Ryan Routh, insulted me for trying to buy a house site unseen as many military members do returning from over seas. »The arrest Sunday has been described by FBI as « what appears to be an attempted assassination of former President Trump. »Routh was allegedly armed with an AK-47 and was able to push the muzzle of his gun through the chainlink fence outside the Florida golf club, authorities said. He was located about 300 to 500 yards away from Trump. Secret Service spotted Routh and opened fire, according to authorities. Routh fled, but was later stopped by authorities and arrested. Trump assured supporters and the public shortly following the incident that he was safe and well.
